I was stunned to see how well versed in English she is. It wasnt until then, that I realized that she left Czechoslovakia at 10. She has a very distinct, rather soviet-like accent, but her fluency is superb.
Her parents immigrated to Sweden first, from Czechoslovakia, when she was 6, I think, leaving her behind, because the escape from the communist camp with heavily patrolled and barb wired border was dangerous, and she then joined them with her grandmother few years later when she was about 10, still in Sweden, from where they continued to America later on. At least I think that's how she got into the free world when she was little. Her escape with her nana was also very dramatic, because the communist were very obstructive and didn't want the family to reunite in Sweden, they wanted to use 6 y.o. Paulina as a collateral and a extortion tool for her parents to return to the commie Eastern Europe! God, those were really horrendously hard times for the people there! Disgusting regime! Most of the Supermodels at the time were extremely intelligent, modelling IS a business after all and it requires wits besides looks to navigate it.

I remember how much in love she was with Ric Ocasek at the time and was saddened to hear how he treated her in the end after 28 years of marriage. Lesson of the story: Girls, always have your own money and bank account to look after yourself in case you ever need to leave a situation.
This is so silly , to state something like this . She was a highest paid model in the 80ties, landing a 6 MIL contract with estee lauder. And she was 25y.. Of course she had plenty of other contracts and she was a very very veryyyy rich woman .
