Why no review with with a wired connection? I ask because i wear my Sony phones with a balanced wire.
Great video. Congrats on being one of the first reviewers to put out a comparison between these two headsets.
Not the first as yesterday another a RUclipsr posted a review on the bose ultra headphones
@@houman2009 Hence why his comment says, “one of the best”.

I agree so much
I was really waiting for this review especially from you and how genuine and honest you are . Thank you so much 🙏
That actual mic test was really useful to really hear the difference!
Best comparison I’ve seen. So concise yet informative and clear. Thank you.
No link but you are god damn beautiful I'm shocked
Great comparison video and just what I was looking for, plus high quality production is always appreciated
Hi there!
I recently got the famous Bose QC Ultra Headphones, and I can confirm that despite the drivers (speakers) being similar to the Bose NCH 700, this very recent model sounds even better than its predecessor. I also have the Sony WH-1000-XM4, and find that the QC Ultra's sound signature is much clearer than the Sony model.
What's more, a little adjustment of the well-rounded bass, and the midrange drive the point home even further.
*As a preventive measure, I'd advise you *not to exceed 65% volume, and to take a few listening breaks for the sake of your ears (e.g. 15 to 20 minutes for 1 hour's listening).* Indeed, these headphones have a lot in reserve,
and I didn't notice any major sound distortion, which is very good quality. But be careful with your ears, because they're really powerful!
And yes, the sound is very clear!
Lightweight (257 grams), it folds neatly and has a wider, more comfortable headband.
The depth of the speakers (especially for big ears - you don't sweat as much as with Sony headphones) and its active noise reduction are truly impressive! Somewhat superior to Apple's Air Pods Max, that is!
For the moment (2023), in concrete terms, *it's the best noise-canceling headset!* At the same time, it's the most recent. We'll see how it fares next year (2024), with the future Sony WH-1000-XM6 and Apple Air Pods Max 2.
The "attentive" (transparent) mode is a real success! A notch below the Air Pods Max, and a good notch above the WH-1000-XM4/5. You can clearly hear everything around you.
The immersive mode is a bit of a gimmick, as it gives the impression that the soundstage is getting bigger, but I still find it well worthwhile, especially for films and video games! That's another world!
I also note that this mode is a little more energy-hungry in terms of this product's autonomy (around 19h35 for me, as opposed to the 18 hours announced by Bose).
In fact, as far as battery life is concerned, I think that Bose has underestimated its headphones, because without the immersive mode, and staying at 60~65% maximum volume, I've actually gone up to around 30 hours. The official press release claims 24 hours' autonomy.
. What's more, a mode (even two) designed to cleverly save battery power has been integrated:
_ Like Apple and Sony, the sound stops when the QC Ultra is removed... And restarts once the device is placed back on the head.
_ Automatic sleep mode, when the headset is removed for a long time. It restarts automatically when put back on.
Automatic pairing, no headaches, it works like a charm.
Multipoint is amply correct, and the solid Bluetooth is certified in 5.3 (the latest available), which is much better in terms of wireless connection stability. A very good point in itself.
The WH-1000-XM4 (which is in bleuetooth 4.2) that I've owned since 2021 can cut out from time to time for no reason at the moment...
I don't know why.
Maybe it's due to my smartphone being almost full of internal memory?
I don't know.
In any case, I no longer have this little inconvenience with the Bose QC Ultra.
The application is nice and quite rich! It's straight to the point, and somewhat less sophisticated than Sony's, whose geekiness is its specialty.
As for the buttons, they're all located on the right speaker, behind the ear.
A touch-sensitive surface for volume, and incidentally a personalized touch-sensitive button (press for 2 seconds in the middle of the touch-sensitive surface and that's it), either to obtain a voice assistant, or to indicate battery level or something else, for example...
Personally, I opted for the battery level. How convenient!
And in terms of physical buttons, there are only 2.
. The first, at the bottom of the right-hand speaker, is reserved for switching on the headset.
. The second button is located a little higher up, towards the rear of the speaker.
. The second button is located a little higher up, towards the back of the speaker.
This button allows:
_ 1 short click: play / pause;
1 long click: change mode (immersive, attentive, silent - additional modes can be added and/or removed, such as the outdoor mode with its more or less successful optional "windbreaker" function, for example);
_ 2 quick clicks: next track;
_ 3 quick clicks: previous track.
Personally, I find these two physical buttons rather instinctive and less headache-inducing (100% subjective, of course).
As for the tactile part, I find it better thought-out than the NCH 700 and the Sony WH-1000-XM4/5, in the sense that there's no tactile conflict when unwanted rubbing occurs, such as fabric rubbing when you're in bed, or when you're putting on a hood.
The left speaker features a USB-C input for headphone charging only, and an input for...
A 2.5 mm jack!...
The 2.5 mm jack...
I'll never understand why that is... Especially as the headphones must be switched on to be effective(!)...
I really don't understand this choice...
As far as phone calls are concerned, the people I'm talking to can hear me clearly, even when there's a lot of noise around me! It's not as sophisticated as the Air Pods Max, but it's still one of the most effective.
My voice is clearly audible, and it's possible to adjust the volume of the voice when telephoning via the headset.
I write this because none of the testers mentioned this detail generally.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to obtain lossless sound via a wired USB-C cable (which is quite incomprehensible to me, especially given its high price at the moment).
The French Batys headphones, for example (albeit more expensive than the QC Ultra), make this possible.
Finally, the price is high (499€) for the moment, but will inevitably drop in the coming months (logically). And then the bargains will start rolling in over the coming year. It has to be!
So, I've tried to be as complete as possible about my pleasant experience with these Bose Quiet Confort Ultra Headphones.
Expensive, yes, it's undeniable, but very pleasant to hold, not at all uncomfortable on the head, light and very comfortable, this top-of-the-range headset (2023) does quite well, if not very well.
A special mention for the active noise reduction, which so far puts it ahead of Apple and Sony.
All in all, this headset is a success, far from flawless, let's be honest, but what it does, it does really well.
Very satisfied overall.
Oh yes, I almost forgot: *the ear pads are detachable and therefore replaceable, in case of any long-term wear and tear.*
Hoping for interesting updates (USB-C wired sound, I dream of it! x) ) to come!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Respect for your remarquable work!👍🏾🔥
Thanks for the review!!
actually I think you can have lossless and zero latency audio with the jack
brodie wrote a whole report.
10-20% is loud enough
A trick for increase volume without risks, is wearing earplugs before the Bose.
Thank you for the video!!!! Very helpful and nice to see the comparison side by side
Thanks for the video, I'll definitely be picking up a pair. My QC 25 are slowly starting to give out on me and these just seem like a great upgrade. Especially reducing sudden loud noises seems really nice
Amazing video, starting with the tests at the beginning. Thanks!
I love how detailed this was, especially showing those tests at the beginning!
Wonderful review, as always!
Since you've now tested them both, which pair of earphones would you say is more comfortable - the QuietComfort Ultra or the regular QuietComfort (the rebranded QC45)?
That mic test was the decision maker for me, thank you
Watched numerous reviews and the mic test in this review (walking down the street) was perfect for helping me decide. THANK YOU!
Wrong decision.
Thanks for great comparison and explanations! I could decide which one would be best for me
You did an excellent job with the review. No biased opinions either
Excellent comparison. Your narrating style is very smooth and calming.
Great vid! Thanks for actually giving an unbiased review of both products.
thank for this! great video and content!! Helped make my decision clearer!
Is there white noise when using the headphones and popping noise after the music stops? I also want to know whether multi point connection works well or not. Will qc ultra be comfortable for person with 62cm(about 24.5inches) head circumference?
Thank you for this review, I have been trying to find one I feel was honest and you did a great job. I have subscribed to your channel now. BTW you are 100% correct the Sony Mic does sound better and that really surprised me. I always felt like Bose would have a better mic. Thank you again!
I absolutely love your reviews! Thanks!
Thank you!
Hey, that's a great review! Covered all my questions. Thanks, Sir!❤😊
Good job! Great review and comparison between these two excelents phones.
Great review, great job comparing these two great headphones 🎧👍
Great review, thank you.
Hey there! Great job, thanks for your videos!
Could you tell me please which one of them more suits for audiobooks and podcasts, I mean where are voices more natural and pleasant? Actually I already got Bose qs ultra and find them quite good for listening audiobooks but still I can change them if Sennheisers make the job with voices better than Bose. Or maybe there is better headphones for my purpose? Thanks in advance.
I've been watching review over review and yours is top notch! Well done!
One criticism, chapters would've been nice

Solid review. Many thanks.
Great review mate thank you for that
What will happen with the Bose if you move one ear cup backwards on your head. Does it turn off and is there a way of disabling any touch panel functions? I wear headphones in bed before sleep while listening to quiet music. Sometimes I end up moving one ear cup backwards to lay on my side. If there is a risk of turning down the volume or turning the headphones off by accident then they are not for me
On the QC ultra's, if you take them off your head and the unit goes into "sleep" mode does that act like wear detection where all you need to do is put them back on and push "PLAY" or do you have to go through some BS to get them playing again❓
Thank you
Need comparison between Bose QC Ultra and Bowers and Wilkin px8. Which one is worth to buy? Help. Getting them for the same price.
Great content. Can we get this same comparison Bose QC Ultra to AirPod Max?
very helpful thank you so much!
Great comparison video!!
Very enjoyable vid. Nice work
Do you still use the same eq for the xm5 that you had in a video a while ago? If you have changed it, could you tell me what you now use?
I wonder, does this one call out the name of the caller when someone is calling ? Bose 35 qc had this function and it was pretty much the main reason why I returned wh-1000xm5 headphones. Also are the earpads replaceable ?
Great job sir! This was so helpful. 👍👍
nice reviews. but chapters would be lovely to have and see ^^
Great comparison video. Like your videos, they very professional. Great job👍
Thank you!
Great video. Only thing missing is video chapters
Great review dude! Thanks
Great review...thanx. Subbed
Thank you, I just came across your videos. You’re helping me with choosing my headphones. You have a calming voice u could do ASMR just saying .
The Sony xm5 has a active ambient mode when it here sudden loud noise but its reaction is a bit sluggish compared to other headphones out there that has this feature
GREAT video and a big thanks 👍👍
Did you notice a difference in temperature on ears? I get hot especially when my ears are covered. If one had a noticeable difference in breathability/temperature I would appreciate your insight. Thanks for the review.
Just for the noise canceling alone such as blocking lawn mower noises which do you think is better? I am currently using SONY WH-1000XM4.
how does the ANC of the bose ultra compare to the Airpods max?
just wonder, are the ear cushion on ultra headphones compatible with nc700?
Good review keep up the good work🎉🥛
Can they be used in wired mode with the USBC cable or only with the aux cable?
Great video good job ! Just a little compliment from Britain (in France !) See you next... contrats 🤙
The bose sound great! I heard them at a best buy on display! Also the noise cancelling sounded pretty good. The quality felt premium in my opinion.
I love customers like you keeping the standards high :'D the best noise cancelling headphones on earth sound, pretty good.
I tried out the Ultras at Best Buy, as well, and was able to connect to my own phone and choose my songs. The immersive mode sounded incredible and is a huge selling point for me. I own the XM5s, and the music quality was similar if Immersive mode is turned off. Bose’s hear-through mode also seems just a bit clearer.
And yeah, you can only judge noise cancellation so much while tethered to the store’s display case, but it was solid.
I also own AirPods Max, which have the best transparency mode of the three, similar noise cancellation, and probably the least exciting overall sound.
@@isaacwutkee11hiya could you please tell me which is comfiest between Bose, Sony and Airpod max?
@@KingKikikoi I think that’s a matter of personal preference. I find the AirPods Max to be the most comfortable. The XM5s don’t have a very deep cup, so sometimes I can feel my ears touching on the inside, even though my ears don’t stick out much.
@@isaacwutkee11Thankyou!
can we get a ultra vs nc700 review? am looking to finally upgrade those.
I'm about to pick up a set of headphones, i was hoping someone would put out this comparison video with the XM5 and the Ultras. This was helpful, thank you.
Ima be honest I js like the xm5z better so I'm going with the xm5z 😅😅
Go with the momemtum 4 from sennheiser haha far better than those two
@@Patrickmathieu0482based on what? You tried both of them?
@@Patrickmathieu0482Momentum 4 was unwearable for me I returned it after full day wear 😢 wayy too hot on the ears
I just tried both yasterday and ended buying the bose ultra it is way beeter in ANC qnd sound quality
But it is much more expensive 😅
Thank you for another great comparison! 👍
Thank you! The Perfect microphone Test i was looking for. I have the earbuds Quitecomfort 1 and everybody is complaining when i call them. Do you have experience with Sennheiser Momentum 4?
I don't, unfortunately
@@CEONTHEMAKING if I could only get one should I get the Bose qc ultra earbuds, Sony wh-1000xm5 or the Bose QuietComfort ultra headphones?
Thanks for the review
Do you know if bose qc ultra will work well on laptop calls using ms teams??
Once you use the bose usb link, they work well.
Great review
Appreciate your knowledge
What kind of camera do are you using in this video?
can you or someone who owns bose quietcomfort if the device is out of battery, plugin cable still works but only if the device is 'turned on' button? saw from another youtube review when device is dead, plugin still works but requires the physical switch to be turned on. its not something big for me but would like to confirm this, thanks
Great video as I am in the market this year for some new Over the Ear headphones, leaning towars the Sony at present. Thabks again.
Got the XM5 in $265 with card offers and in TGIF sale. Banger of a deal.
TGIF?
@@Vindeeni Great Indian Festival Sale.
This is a good informational video.
you are so cool in explanation...thank you so much..
What a great review perfectly stated
Great video!
I know both these headphones have the latest tech, which is great, but if all one cares about is pure ANC, is there any real reason to update from the QC35II? Assuming, of course, that the older headphones support the codecs for my listening needs.
Yes. Heard both of them and there are 3 big differences. The quiet mode on the ultras blocks out more, especially in the higher frequencys which is super helpful in crowded environments. The ultras have a wind block option, where the qc 35 2 have a low mode for windy environments. Both are valid options but the Wind Block Mode keeps the anc Performances higher. The ultras have a aware mode, which also sounds very good (Close to the airpods max)
I tried the Sony headphones XM5s for two weeks using them at the gym, mowing the grass, on a flight to Las Vegas, and driving a big box truck and the Sony ANC was fantastic and blew away my old Bose headphones 35s. The sad part was that after an hour or more wearing the Sony headphones XM5s the headband would cause pain on the top of my head which I never experienced with my old Bose 35s headphones. I like the Sony’s headphones ANC but for me, they are NOT comfortable wearing for over an hour. I ordered the Bose Ultra headphones and hopefully, they will be comfortable for hours of wearing especially on long flights.
would you mind giving me an update on how it is? when i bought my NC700's 3, 4 years ago i had this problem too but after a while it went away, maybe this is a break in period?
@@miles5600 I will say I just got the quiet comfort not the 45s the new ones and I wanted to see the max amount of wear time and wore them for pretty much 36 hours straight even fell asleep with them on last night and I will say the top of my head hurts in the spot they were on but I doubt people are going to be wearing these to bed for 2 days straight but other than that literally the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever had if u wear them even like 7-8 hours a day u probably will have no issues at all
@@rendermystic3300 i hope that the ultra’s have the same comfort or even better. Thanks for the information :)
I had to return my Sony XM5's because they hung way too low on my ears, almost like a weight. I had to take them off at 3hr point because my ears and the top of my head was so uncomfortable and sore. Also the "padding" (if you can even call it that) on the XM5's is almost non-existent. I'm currently wearing my new Bose Quietcomfort Ultras and they've been on now for almost 6 hrs and they feel fantastic, light as a feather. Sooo incredibly happy I made the switch. Sound quality was great on the XM5's but when the hardware itself is causing pain to your ears and your head, they've got to go.
can you compare the bose qc ultra to the bowers ad wilkins px7 s2e's??!!
Great video, thanks
Great video!
Do the Bose support the loss-less Apple format?
Which codeks are avalailable on Bose ?
Thank for your great video, really helpful and the quality of the video 👍👍
I just wanna add that the Bose has a ipx 4 rating. I had read countless forums about sony mx5 dying because of moisture. If I am going to spend a ton of money on a headset, I dont want to risk it breaking because im wearing it outside. I think that it is criminally underrated feature, because sony, sennheiser and all the other big companies dont prioritize this.
Great point, making these the better headphones to get if you are working out with them.
Where did you read that? Is it on there website?
@@citishadow04 its kinda weird, I wrote to them and they responded that it had ipx 4 rating. I also saw an article afterwards stating it , so I think its genuine. 700nc and 35 ii are also ipx 4. My guess is that they are not liable for water damage if they dont promote it as resistant.
Hmm that’s awesome. Yeah I have not been able to find that anywhere. That’s why I was curious. No over the ear headphones claim that. It would put these over the top if they did
Amazing video! I wasn't sure which of the one to buy. Since both headphone are comparable in terms of performance and I found the Sony for €299, I'm gonna buy the Sony. Thanks mate!
Hey, great video! I think Id still go for the XM5s
Quick question, what camera do you use to record?
Thanks!
It's strange that Bose haven't fixed the hollow microphone quality. And especially with the price range they are placed on.
True, I've had the QC35 and I've been a fan ever since and although I use it for meetings and calls, now that I see how clear sony's mic is, i might just consider getting the sony rather than upgrade to the ultra.
I just got the Bose ones, is anyone else experiencing like a static noise when you make a small jump or sudden movement with your head?
You are a master at what you do. The best part of this video is the unprejudiced expression on your face. Hats off
Thank you sir
I am watching this video wearing the Bose ultra comfort. I am loving the features on these
I really wanted to consider Bose but the mic performance is making me lean towards the Sony. Thanks for a great comparison.
Same here
Samee
Its good for gaming mic ? Which better ?
The Sonys have been the most comfortable overall about 4 years in a row. I don't know where you trolls get your facts from but next time you should research stuff before spouting none sense. The reason why is because Bose always has tight headbands and you can feel the pressure on your head, everyone can that's not biased like the pros aka GYMCADDY OR AARONWIRELESS OR FLOSSY CARTER. Bose also has cabin pressure which is absolutely terrible no matter how much there is. Sonys have verifiable better noise canceling than the new Bose headphones and they have no cabin pressure and no tight headband so you don't feel them squeezing your head to death. Bose does this to make up for their lacking ANC. So in short, we scientifically have already proven over and over that Sony is the king of ANC 4 years in a row and the Bose have worse ANC while also having cabin pressure and a tight headband. Bose has a flat sound signature and most people prefer Sonys sound signature because of the bass and how good it sounds overall with all media content. Nobody cares about noise separation, most people that buy these don't care about that just you nerds lol. Bose fanboys have been having a temper tantrum ever since the XM3s destroyed the Bose headphones and stole the number one King of Noise Canceling crown 4 to 5 years ago and they never had to worry since 🤣. Sonys look better too and have better software. Bose can only do SBC and AAC which is absolute trash and not High Fidelity audio like Sonys custom LDAC which is better than the best audio codec android and apple can produce as of the present. Nothing is subjective when your a professional, just little kids acting like men that know something when in reality it's a bunch of nerds in their mothers basements eating Cheetos yelling at their poor mom to get them the new Bose headphones for Christmas because if Bose fooled them once they damn sure can do it again and if mom bought you the last Bose headphones then I guess she will surely do it again right? Good luck with your inferior Bose headphones while people in the know order the XM5s refurbished on Amazon for $229. Get the silver ones, the black ones get fingerprints worse than any tech I've ever owned but the silver have zero fingerprints since I've owned them.
same boat but calls wasn't a priority as its going to be an at home music listening when I go out I just use earbuds which got the airpods so no issue taking calls. Had the XM4s so think I'll give Bose a try as it'll be my first Bose
Thanks for the thorough review! Sounds like ANC is better on the Bose, however call quality and microphone is high up in my list and it sounds like the Sony headphones have the better mic.
XM5 are fantastic for calls. Wind in my face walking next to a much busier roadway and it all gets cancelled out. I love them.
Right, I'm so disappointed to hear that the Bose seems so bad with the mic... I tried the XM5 a month ago and I didnt like it much actually, so I was putting high hopes in this new Bose. Now I dont know which one to choose
my xm5 is too good but just that ear cups warm up after few mins of wearing,,,not sure how ultra handles this
I wonder if Best Buy has them on display so I can test them
I used the QC35 for years and my ears would feel sore after a few hours of usage. With the XM5, I never had this issue so I believe the fit design makes a huge difference
The qc35 are the most comfortable headphone ever made. The sonys do sound better, but the one thing no one should be complaining about the bose is the comfort
@@michael-4k4000 yeah comfort is very subjective. Bose QC series have great design though for some reason my ears get sore after wearing those too long. I can understand the mileage will vary for everyone
This shows how subjective comfort is. I've used the QC35 for years and find them very comfortable. I bought the XM5 and my ears get damp with sweat after an hour or two. I find them so uncomfortable that I find myself still using the QC35 over the XM5 when both are on my desk in front of me.
@@michael-4k4000 💯
for me it's the other way around. QC 35 were the only ones that weren't touching my ears, so I can use them 14h straight and not feel them at all
Great reviews
Are the bose sweat resistant??
Pricing in the UK is BOSE at £449 and Sony at £305. And I think the Sony will go on sale. That’s a massive difference in process and to be honest I don’t think it makes them comparable.
I Like your Nike Hoodie ! Can you sent a link where i can buy this hoodie. Thx
Sorry. I don't remember where I got it from. I've had it for a long time.
Nice job on the review

My question is what setting did you use for ANC now that you can choose from 10 to 0?
"Quiet" is always 10
