    Anytime a business person sells a product or service about which they don't want to be questioned, that's a red flag. When that person is also a poor representation of the product, that's also a red flag.

    Your assumptions about my hair are correct. I am 58 years old and have medium to high density coily 4C hair. I have over 400 locks and have been locked for 12 years, DIYing for 10. Pros: It takes a lot less time putting 1 knot on 400 locks than doing a 4-way rotation on 400 locks. Time between retis 3 months vs 6 weeks. Less strain on my arms. I am not accidentally combining my locks. The hair lays different so looks more voluminous. Cons: There’s not a lot of info out there about the method and I can’t afford to take the class. Conclusion: My 6 month knotted lock experiment has been successful so far. Great video. Looking forward to part 2.

      One reason sister loc consultants maybe up in arms is because she's taking money out of their pockets.
      I looked into the process because it promised helping the roots retain density. I loc'd my own over 12 yrs ago and 1 client for over 8 yrs ago so any process to ease tension on the roots was a concern especially as the length accumulates.

    The thing I like about Pauline’s take is she is extremely experienced with locking hair…so she is giving her take based on her experiences and hypothesis. Everything she said is not written in gold, but is based on her expertise. So, as a girlie with high density fine 3C hair, I don’t think knotted locks are for me.

    This is a very interesting conversation. Bottom line everything is not for everyone. I will NOT be experimenting with my hair. I really believe that this is one of those things that people are going to have issues with down the road. SMH! I will be starting my SISTERLOCK journey the 6th of June. Thanks for sharing.

    Melissa and Tunisia promotes knotted locks as a maintenance technique for those experiencing thinning or traction alopecia from over or improper retightenings of Sisterlocks or microlocks. It hasn’t been advertised as a starter lock. You have to watch the entire video.

    1. Knotting you can place in area that’s needed. 2. Perhaps you can knot the new growth at the root also like retwist according to the pictures.

    Melissa Blake is a sister loc Loctition in the UK. She ran a successful business, but she and her business partner parted ways. The knotted locs are part of her comeback as a business on her own.
    To be honest I feel she is disillusioned with the sisterlocks community, just my opinion though, as an ex sister loc wearer wish her luck on her journey

    Girl! When we braided your hair, we braided your thoughts! Hair line popping! SIS! Get your thoughts snatched! YOU brought back memories 😂
    I did have knotted locks that I interlocked also. Thick strands but fine on edges and crown, low porosity, new growth grows away from locs. I have lost quite a few sisterlocks transitioned microlocs to knotted locs. At the moment I am braiding new growth every way wash day/retwisting/interlocking/knotting every 2-3 months. Found my happy meduim. Bye bye 30hr diy retie.

      It's super easy. My sisterlock consultant explained it to me as wrapping the hair around the new growth. My new growth grows away from the loc. Instead, I braid it. Seperare the new growth into 2 sections and use the loc as the 3rd strand. And happy braiding!

    Hey Pauline,
    Thanks for engaging in this conversation. I’ve been watching videos on knotted locs. I’ve found that the Melissa advertising that the knotted locs are for all. She suggests that switching to knotted locs prevents hair from thinning.
    You are correct that most of the people supporting her ok YT appear to have thicker hair. I don’t know.
    I’ve had sisterlocks for a little over a year and I love it. I do have fears of my hair will thin over time since I have a low-medium density fine texture of hair.
    Thank you again!

    I would love a part 2!I am so interested in knotted locs because I hate reties. They always hurt and I'm not tenderheaded. And I have fine low density hair so the slippage at the beginning was so so bad (when I originally started researching)
    Some research I did was on what knots do to the tensile strength of rope. (I get that locs are different from ropes in usage but weaker is weaker right?)
    Also many locticians believe that tying knots (to shore up weak spts) is a temporary fix as the loc will break at one of the 2 weak points above and below the knot. I'd love to know a definitive answer about this and the tensile strength idea.
    I appreciate you and the fact that you made these videos for us. I had been hoping for a loctician I trust to do one and I'm glad it was you.

    • @SE-gs6gd
      @SE-gs6gd 3 месяца назад +1

      I think the knotted method stacks knots on top of each other so you don’t have gaps in between. That’s why they tell you not to put knots in your hair because it will break above the knot. I’ve put many’s a knot in my hair by accident during retys and it’s really not that big of a deal. I think any locing method will look good on a person with coarse hair that is dense. That’s the best hair for locing!!

    I knot my mom's hair , mind you she has about three or months of new growth . I simply put a knot in her new growth instead of interlocking I hope that helps. My moms hair is very thick and all silver 4b hair type . She wanted to transition over . We have used this method for less than six months.

    I live in the UK - not far from Melissa.
    I wonder if there is anyone from the UK who would promote knotted locs, someone from the loc community who has knowledge and experience, rather than her clients.
    There’s a reason that they are not taking off here. Our proximity to what’s actually going on is a factor!

    You are so funny with demonstrating the "tension pulling" hairstyles using a a water bottle. I had a few Sisterlocks®️ clients who would say " I don't wear my hair in any style ..." only to see them pop their hair in a ponytail that was pulling their hairline back in order to get that hair in a ponytail. Usually, they catch it themselves and have an "aha" moment and take it down, because they quickly remember that I mentioned during their retightening session that being a contributing factor.

    That’s is correct from my experience the thinking areas knotted method helps for volume I think perhaps helps for thinning areas gives the illusion of knotting it’s a basic knot in a specific area. lol it’s not a big secret of magic trick. It helps in the thinning space locked and blends as it matures my original Locs are micro interlocs looks great mixed texture 4c low density coily looks greats always gets compliments once I stopped interlocking the thinning Locs and started knotting the thin Locs works and looks area. So knotting is exactly was it is loop and knot like a knot in shoe string. It’s real simple. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣 just saying the secret it is out❤️😃🤷🏽‍♀️

    Thanks for doing this video! I would love for you to do another video with responding to the comments. I have been Sisterlocked for 9 years. I have fine low-density hair and am experiencing thinning in the crown area. I’m still trying to determine if interlocking causes thinning over time or if the real issue is it being done too tight and on hair that is dry.

    • @SE-gs6gd
      @SE-gs6gd 3 месяца назад

      Thinning could be for several reasons especially if it’s pronounced in the crown which is a male pattern baldness distribution. If you rule out those things then it may be the way you are doing retys. You don’t have to tighten your hair all the way down. You can only do a few turns and leave the base a little looser. But it depends a lot on your texture and density

    Pauline, speaking on the going in Blind part I 100% disagree any class that I have been researching has pages and pages of info about what will be offered and what you're going to learn etcetera. If you are designing a new method you need to be forthcoming with the details if you want anybody to take the risk.

    How do I comb my microlocs out, I have knotted locs and my locs are rough. I started out with extensions done by a Loctician and they would randomly fall out it was so embarrassing I cut the extensions out. Tried to self maintain and going to someone closer that was over $200 per retie so I found some one even closer to me for $50 less that used the brown locking tool and my locs were so heavy and started to get knots in them. I will be one year in July but I’m so ready to cut them down or comb them out. Any suggestions?

      Right, but a smart business woman would figure out a way around that. She could very easily make a video introduction so that everybody could see what they are possibly getting into and then charge for a class. She could charge locticians to learn her technique. She's not doing any of those things she is gatekeeping and then telling you if you have questions you're not ready. She posts heavily edited videos on her socials almost daily but can't seem to make one video explaining the process?

  • @SE-gs6gd
    @SE-gs6gd 3 месяца назад

    The issue of how long to wait to rety is very personal and largely depends on texture. I’ve gone several months without rety and my locs were fine. In someone with finer hair that probably would be less desirable.
    Edit: I think it’s interesting the knotted loc founder only really compares to sislocs when there are a myriad of small locing methods out there. This is clearly targeted which kinda makes me wary. I don’t want to think everything is cash grab but usually it is.
