- "Lightning Crashes (Acoustic)" by Live.
Lightning crashes a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door
Lightning crashes an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it.
Lightning crashes a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris
Contains the circle
And puts the glory out to hide, hide
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it.
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it.
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it. - Видеоклипы
I was at a party many years ago, everyone was just chatting away to each other, relaxing and putting the world to rights. At some point, no one really registered it, but my friend started to play and sing this on the guitar, the whole room stopped, it was like a moment frozen in time, everyone just appreciating this song and the acoustic magic and passion our friend was gifting to us. Increadible song, whoever sings it.
Our family has become close with the most genuine and caring man who is still alive today (over 10 years later), who has Barb's heart beating in his chest! "Lightning Crashes" literally lives on. (thanks, Cory - York, PA)
My mother had her first born 5 years before me. In the time before me, she had a stillborn and a miscarriage. When she became pregnant again, she and my father had already prepared for the best and worst. The stethoscope heard the heart of a baby. My parents were later at the drugstore and my mother pointed out twins on the cover of a birth announcement card to my father. My father responded with, "Don't even think about it." Well, our hearts were in sync. At birth, 6.7lb & 6.8lb came out in 3 min, twins. I later thought my mother could relate to this song when I learned guitar and sang it, but I had a hard time not crying when I sang. She "luckily" only delt with two of the scenarios.
Wow dude, that's like learning The Drugs Don't Work to play to someone whose parent died of cancer. Just because they can emphasize doesn't make it a kind or nice thing to do for someone to dredge up their worst memories just so you can do a performance.
This song brings me back to the late 90's. I still remember some of the things I did back then, trying my first joint and looking up at the stars here in Ontario. I'll never forget my life here. I love it, I miss it. Time goes way too quickly. I was a sneaky lil' bastard back in those days hahah.
Wow are you my twin I was thinking pretty close to that and I too from Ontario, Toronto at the time I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the song I googled the baby down the hall and presto . How Tim does fly. Ohh the days!!!
"The band dedicated this to Barbara Lewis, one of their high school friends who was killed by a drunk driver around the time this song was written. Her brother in-law Cory told us the story:
The song's lyrics are mostly an analogy. Barb donated several organs, including her heart. She was close with Ed and the guys and died in a car collision with a fleeing armed robber."
That's the story about this song that you can find on Songfacts. A song about circle of life, such beautiful song.
My wife died a day after our child was born and i played this while i was holding her hand
this is an amazing song to sing with a group of friends when youre piss drunk
this group disappeared - great song/great memories.
Why'd you just copy and paste two comments
such a great song to play on guitar. it's a simple progression but it sounds awesome
First of all, it is a great song. Second of all it is a song about the circle of life.
it reminds me of the first women I truly had the misfortune to love with all my soul......love it!
I love this song. It's one of my mom's favorites, and i inherited most of her music collection, so...
My wife died a day after our child was born and i played this while i was holding her hand
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. I had a dream about that when I was 18, only my wife died right after giving birth in the dream. I'm 20 now, not married, and it haunts me pretty bad to this day. I've never had a nightmare that was so horrifying like that.
You can only remember, and show your child the best life possible, its a peiece of her she has left you. You can do it even if feels like not worth the try. Your her legacy, and so is your child.
matt bruno I'm sorry
My heart goes out too you
(wikipedia) Kowalczyk says that the video for "Lightning Crashes" has caused misinterpretations of the song's intent. "While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a
Geez, bro, you just made me cry. (seriously). My condolences to you....love that little baby up and always give your child those beautiful memories

Instrumentals riveting
Lyrics Moving, with a deep underlying meaning
All you need to create one of the greatest songs ever written...
i know that Ed Kowalczy did a live studio version for triple m radio in australia, and thats why it stuck in my mind. but i couldnt find a good version of it. cheers for getting it up.
I grew Up With the song..you can never go wrong with it
Don't be such a hater. It's just a song and just a video. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.
i've always been fascinated by thunderstorms and lightning..thanks for posting this
well done finding a quality copy of this acoustic version. good song to post mate
Gweston, the song is about a hospital. In one room a birth and in another a lady dying. It's sad and beautiful and a powerful song.
i rarely rate a song as a masterpeice. this is one.
beautiful song!!
Great song excellent vocals loved listening to this song
ya know i am sure i've heard the non acoustic version ..many times but today while just cleaning the car this came on the radio..and i just stopped the lyrics are so sad ..yet rejoycing at the same time. The so different story of two mothers is heart wrenching. It is such a well written thought provoking lyrics as to make the listener well up at the vision they create..man i love this song
looking at this picture is the best way to listen to this song. Very relaxing. Thank you for posting
What happened to this group..we miss you guys..ROCK ON..
Still together just not with Ed. They got a new singer now.
Do they still have the "mystique" as Ed's voice resonated in their songs?
I don't know. I haven't listened to the new guy.
I just got 'time warped' back in '95. Throwing Copper is probably the second best album of the nineties after Nirvana's Nevermind. I was on my fresman year then in college. Thanks for the post.
The song is about the circle of life, two unrelated things occur, a baby being born, an old woman dieing. The mother of the baby is not dead, the old woman is dead. and the old women doesn't have anything to do with the baby or the mother of the baby. The crash of lightening is the moment when everything happens. Since lightening occurs so often this is a metaphor for how this circle of life occurs all the time. That's relativley what it is about
this group disappeared - great song/great memories.
First of all, it is a great song. Second of all it is a song about the circle of life.
one of the bests songs, ever
Going to see them in Atlantic City at the House of Blues on Saturday. This is one of the most powerful and beautiful songs ever written.

2020

Great song brings back memories.
This takes me back! Always loved this song always will :-)
~The Angel opens her eyes...
~smiling~ This has always been one of my all-time favorites. The image you chose was absolutely perfect!
~The confusion sets in...
~The Angel closes her eyes...
~warm smile~ Thank you so much for sharing this genuine treasure. Much respect from ~magik.
My favourite song.
Nice song loving for a long time and never gets old lol
I seen these guys in Toronto Live!!!! AMAZING f'n show!!!!
Yes, Ed is speaking to the circle of life, but specifically to how Barb's life gave new life to many. The angel, the baby down the hall, the pale blue eyes (of Barb), the pain ("confusion")... the lyrics are wholly Ed's interpretation of his experience and perception of Barb's impact.
Such a beautiful and touching song! ♥♥♥♥
Awesome recording!!!! Thanks for posting! Peace & Love TURK
Never heard the acoustic version before. It's great!
Great song, I Love it.
This is an amazing version of this song
Man i love this song....
I stumbled upon your rendition of this song and I don't make a habit of making comments but I feel I must do this time as you have nailed it. It's good to dedicate it to your mum and dad for loving the song but they will love you even more for the obvious talent! p.s. good luck with the girl :)
VIAJO OUVINDO MUSICAS DO LIVE....ELAS ME LEVAM PRA BEM LONGE DAQUI....GRAÇAS A DEUS
this isnt a cover. Its the guy from Live playing it on and acoustic guitar. The one on the record is an electric strat with a flanger effect. Stop sayin "dude ur cover sucks!" cuz this aint no fuckin cover!! its the acoustic version!

try it right here ... just search for " Live, Lightning crashes " right here on youtube.....you will see it being done in the studio
@Disadvantage213 Agreed, but it's got such raw emotion that it gets my pulse going without the need for anything other than the words. It doesn't feel overly done with background music that makes or breaks the song, or annoyingly catchy lyrics as a lot of songs seem to gravitate toward these days. Like you, I just don't know how to describe it exactly. It's very passionate, beautiful and original song.
Also, it was one of the earliest tunes I listened to as a kid so it fills me with nostalgia.
This is humanity!! Pure love!! Let it set in your hearts evil humans!! This is for pure of hearts!!
nice song...
Loved it!
This is the best I heard him sing this live in the right key finnaly like the album

Ed Kowalczyk said in regards to thr aong and video, " While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life."
Isaw them play with collective soul&Blues traveler at the oakdale in Connecticut GREAT SHOW
This one gets me everytime.
@anime863 You're right about the song being about life and death, but I'm pretty sure that person giving birth is a different person than the one dying. A life is taken while a life is given... The circle of life.
Lovely..
muy buena ojala algun dia pudiera verlos en vivo en chile...
This version is from the original MTV Unplugged performance. Great show, and you can probably still find it online.

@derekpaine omg, thats so sad, thats something that if it was my little brother, i wouldn't say that, i would keep it more private, i feel so bad for you though, sorry for your loss.
Well, at least you stuck around for the entire 5:22. You know, just in CASE there was a crazy 17 minute drum solo at the end or something.

@DropkickTheDinosaur did it work was the girl impressed?
@hisforhatred Did you write the song? Do you own the song? Do you own the music? If you do, then it isn't a cover. If the song was written by someone else, then it's a cover.
Aye, I still don't know where this version originally came from, certainly not from any album I'm aware of. And I too remember scouring the net years ago looking for this version to no avail before finding the copy I had since lost. Regardless, somewhat of a rare find indeed!
life and death are very much related. you can not have one without the other. death is not evil it is natural do not fear it.
u can feel the build up of emotion and it says contained but you want with all ur might to let it free
what album is this from? this isnt the same version off of throwing copper
@DropkickTheDinosaur You go buddy. Im sure you will kick ass.
