    This is such an inspirational video. I always imagined owning my own perfume shop of single-note perfumes - cedar, jasmine, orange, mignonette, everything - sold as an oil and a body/hair mist. This is entirely a pipe dream and the shop would be called 'The Kingdom of Pan'. The work behind producing any perfume is phenomenal but these videos are the next best thing!

    Sarah's unique ways, like the way she aquired her ambergris,discussed in previous video,is most interesting. A small ding to you gentlemen is the poor quality of the audio of this episode due to the acoustics,there's this method of using a green screen to project the backdrop of what is seen,without the terrible acoustic effect. Thank you for accepting my respectful observation. Thank you Sarah!

      She probably meant: An Introduction to Perfumery
      By Tony Curtis and David G Williams.
      Cosmetics, Fragrances and Flavors by Louis Appell is a really good book too.
      Both are available at Micelle Press.

    Thank you for this! Going now through all the videos on your youtube, such pleasure :) ... but, just wanted to add my five cents, so to speak. As much as I want to stop criticising oak moss replacements/restrictions and etc., and if synthetics are so interchangeable with naturals and often times better as Sarah implies why does not my Mitsouko smell the same? It does not even smell like it did in 2014 (which was not a bad year for Mitsouko). I am happy with chemicals/synthetics with what ever labels you put on what smells good, but I just want things to smell good, and they do not... So should I be upset with big corporations that reduce budgets or with IFRA that after these interviews seems to be clearly on my side, I don't know, what I know is I want Mitsouko back... so there is something that I cannot quite put my finger on it, maybe it is a very gentle way of letting people know that they should not bother too much, but you cannot deny the changes, I am afraid. It almost feels that there is something that she does not tell, and I am probably very straightforward to skirt the subject :)

    • @krapivina
      @krapivina 4 года назад

      just wanted to mention that my comment relates to at least one other interview that you have done, so it's a response to a compilation of things that were said, and I am sorry if confusing.

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  4 года назад +1

      It’s absolutely clear that Mitsouko is a shadow of its former self. I recently bought a 1980 extrait bottle, and it’s jaw dropping stuff, almost unrecognisable from the modern extrait. I’m sure that Mitsouko must have undergone MANY reformulations, as more and more materials become restricted. It’s also worth considering that LVMH bought Guerlain in 1994, and it turned from the greatest historical family perfume house into a subsidiary of a massive cosmetics conglomerate, and so I’m sure there have been a whole list of conflicts of interest that have ‘ruined’ the classics. So the Guerlain greats will never be the same again. There are some small indie houses that take pride in using restricted ingredients, Rogue is an obvious one (I’m sure the pun in the name is intentional), and it’s clear that the level of oakmoss they use does make a BIG impact in their fragrances. As well as restrictions there is also the question of animalics; by today’s standards there are many people who deem the use of any real animalics totally ethically unacceptable, yet they were at the centre of many of the great classics.

I bet the late coco Chanel would never say her fragrance was like jet fuel or cheesy socks or scribble out labels omg ! Spend some dosh on some correct labels at least :)

    • @jayel1471
      @jayel1471 4 года назад +2

      She never said her perfumes smelled like that- she said some natural ingredients do- which they do. Sarah is a wonderful and very talented person. You're are clearly not. Oh and btw, your precious Coco Chanel never made anything, she outsourced perfume to people who knew what they were doing.
