Bidders beware. I'm from Illinois so I paided extra to have Chris from Mecuon over look lot S203 a 68 camaro convertible for me. Having faith and trust in Chris and Mecum I began to ask chris questions about the camaro he said it's a clean car with a new top new interior with no rust, dent's or scratches on it and that the camaro Is immaculate. Having faith in Chris I began bidding over the phone Chris said why don't you knock it out the park and start the bidding at 30K I said no way I'll start at 10k. I felt as I was overbidding myself I ended up winning the bid for 33k Once I got the Camaro it had 2 deep scratches rust on the hood the 2 front tires were flat. The Porter had a hard time getting it off because it wouldn't start Looking under it has oil leak in the front and the rear seal. Once I got it started I was unable to go over 15 mph. The top had 2 rips on it and is very hard and difficult to put down and back up the interior looked years old with mold on the bottom of it as if it was waterlogged. The motor has a knock the trunk is full of rust no wiring for head and tail lights no wiring for the wiper motor no radio back windows are off track and don't close it's hard to open the drivers door front suspension is really bad and unsafe power steering pump is leaking the rear air shocks are blown. Long story short the cost of the camaro was $41,480 after shipping taxes and is going to need another $12,000 to get it in a safe driving condition. The way Mecum and Chris described this camaro was a total lie and completely false advertisement. I'm going to post a RUclips video of the 68 camaro. I'm also going to post on Facebook tictock and file a complaint with the Attorney General and better business burial.

I was at Wellborn's a few weeks ago at his 50th anniversary of the Daytona and saw all these cars plus 200 more! It was incredible!!!

That was a amazing collection of Hemi muscle cars, I just can't imagine keeping them in prestige condition, that has to be a full time job 😊
Otis Chandler had great taste. I remember buying the American Muscle coffee table book featuring his collection including that record breaking Hemi Daytona, white 69 ZL1 Corvette and a few Baldwin Motions when I was 17 years old in the late 90's. Still have the book and is the most worn of my collection.
I remember seeing a blue superbird in a used car lot for $1800.00. That was 1977. Wish I knew then what I know now.
In 1970, they couldnt give those cars away,,,the superbird and dodge daytona...people laughed at them...not now..

in '86 i found one for a friend of mine at 2500$ 440 4spd dana 60 drive away. In 2000 he had a divorce and offered me a xx29 daytona complete 440 auto # match rusty for 7k i said no...oh well

I love all muscle cars. Different brands, models, makes etc. Hell...my fav is the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 2. But I'll be honest. You can't beat the Mopars. The sounds, the colors, the engines, the looks. The best.

In 1978 on my way to High School , I remember seeing three of these in the backyard of a house in Alexandria, Virginia. They never moved and the guy put up a fence and we used to laugh because sometimes there would be laundry hanging on the spoilers LMAO true story though and I was too busy playing with Mustangs and Cougar's.

When the Dodge daytona's and Plymouth super bird first came out the dealers had a hard time selling them.Some dealers even took the nose cone off hoping too entice buyers.FACT!
yeah but the road runner front end won't fit on a Superbird front end because the Superbird uses Coronet front fenders and hood
In the early 80s there were 2 of them in a guys side yard and had motors in them and all. He had a 4 sale sign on one for 4500 and that car sat all thru my 3 years of high school. Then about 1985 they were both gone . We knew that they were rare but people laughed at the looks.
there is nothing under the nose cone and if they did they would of had to change the fenders because they were coronet fenders that were made to fit on them cans
I remember when they came out. They looked dumb. All of my friends thought so too, could t imagine owning one...too embarrassing I still think so. But some people will buy anything just cause it is "collectible".
Yeah I heard the same thing that they had a hard time selling them but they were only made for one reason NASCAR and they serve their purpose there. First car to go over 200 miles an hour
The announcer saying the motorcycle at 7:24 was a 1,652 cubic inch bike reminded me of a Harley I saw in the late 60s.
Illinois had just started licensing bikes over 150 cc as motorcycles and bikes under 150cc as motor driven cycles. When
filling out his registration a guy put 74 in the engine size box because he didn't notice it was asking for cc not cubic inches.
He had a 1200 cc Harley with a motor driven cycle license plate.
ALmost bought a 1969 429 cobra jet Mustang with slightly over $9000 bucks in 1989. All original. It had a little over 16,000 miles with the original red strip tires . I had just gotten laid off and was between jobs. Would have done way better than my 401k
The Daytona was bought from the Otis chandler collection for much less. He made a killing!

And in 2020, or 2025? Deduct 20% or more from the value of the lowest priced of these, and 30% - 40% from the highest priced ones. These are the cars that excited us baby boomers (I know, I drove a 68 Charger, my high school friends had a Firebird 400, a Barracuda, a Challenger 440, GTX 440, a Road Runner, Duster, and too many 67-69 Mustangs Camaros Chevelles and Novas to list. But I'm 69 today, and like most baby boomers, I would be a fool to spend $200k on a car I could not drive that was losing value because its target demographic was aging out. This guy sold this collection at exactly the last moment at which he could recoup most of his expenses, and perhaps make a modest profit, depending on how cheap the cost of the restoration, storage, and upkeep. I'm pretty sure if he put that same money into other investments he could have made a lot more money, and just flown around the country admiring a wider selection of muscle cars than these. That parade of 71 Mopars actually turned me off - I only ever liked 68, 69, and a few 70 models. By 71 they were over-designed and too full of shiny bling. I didn't see a single 71 Mopar cross the stage except that purple one (I liked the color) that I would have paid ten grand for, and they were all selling for $185 - $200k or more. I hope these buyers can pawn them off on some Dubai sheiks pretty quick; they'll never miss a million here and there. Enough already, it's all water under the bridge now.
That is one beautiful Boss 429. Unfortunately at that price I'd be too scared to drive it.

James Garner is said to have been one of the top 5 stunt drivers. They tried to find someone who could do the stunts during the Rockford files shows but none could do what Garner did. He picked the Pontiac for it's handling.

@11:50 is that the original color? What did they call that color? I've never seen such a gorgeous color scheme on a Mopar; but if I ever had the opportunity to build a resto-mod I'd match the stripes 2 the interior.
It's paint code B3 Ice Blue Metallic . The black stripes are from the T/A package known as Trans Am. The E-body challenger was developed for Trans am racing.
I Remember when you could get one for $800.00 . I can't bear to watch !..
And, of all these, the one I'd want the most by far.....is the Shelby COBRA truck !!
That Burt Reynolds Trans Am went fairly cheap imo. Great Investment.

I watched this live, I'll bet alot of these cars came from Wheels & Spokes in Hays KS. I stopped by there in 1990 on my way home from Oregon. Think the guys name was Jerry?

about the 78 Pontiac, even though it most likely it was not used in the movies, but now that he has passed away I'm sure the value of it has gone up quite a bit...

In 1977 and ‘78, you could get a base L78 Pontiac 400 or a High Output W72 Pontiac 400 with the TH350 automatic transmission or the Borg Warner Super T-10 manual transmission. The correct shaker hood scoop decal for the ‘78 220hp W72 400 engine is “T/A 6.6”; the Olds 403’s said “6.6 Litre”-the 180 hp 403’s met the smog requirements for California and High Altitude states, and those cars were only available with the automatic.

Interestingly, I ordered a 1977 Trans AM SPECIAL EDITION, in October of 1976, receiving in March of 1977: velour Interior, 6.6 L, auto, tinted Window Delete, rear Window De Fog, a/c, Hurst T Tops, ( which leaked continuously: one stolen , I see why GM SWITCHED TO GM TTOPS), Ziebart Rust Proofing ( not help much)....We used hard Family miles for some 13 years... Now sitting in Salvage yard WARSAW Indiana ( Gills)..... May have saved it knowing present Markets, the Movie , Burt Reynolds and Promotions ....think it was some eight 1977s used in movie ( Vinyl Interior, seems ,Ike some were TA6.6 Engines::SMOKey & Bandit Experts please help me her ?!,,,) as I did bump into a worker for car Company/Supplier to Movie : believable enough in the : at least seven cars used up in Movie use, etc,,( a lone time ago Approximately 1987?)......
Beautiful cars but I was never a fan of Chargers past 1970.
Me also...they started to look awkward and not sleek. I am fortunate to have owned two, one A brand new 69 back then and today a restored 68. 69 was only a 318, but the 68 is a 383 bored 30 over...sweet car.
If any of you are ever in Alexander City, AL, stop by and see their museum. It’s pretty cool.

Shawn Jones It is. My grandfather had an auto shop there for decades and had a bunch of old Mopar parts stored there and they bought a bunch of the parts. His shop is just around the corner from the museum. If you like Mopar, it’s worth the visit.

There's a local guy that has one of those 429 boss sitting in his weld shop thats covered with welding dust with the windows down interior covered with welding dust you wouldn't believe it if u seen it

I was driving home from work, a Firestone dealer had a thrashed superbird on the lot, the rear wing was cut off. Only stubs were left, this car was ran very hard

I think it's almost comical how much people are willing to pay for a Dodge Daytona, it's not like it's any better a car than the day it came out of the factory, it's build quality is still just marginal, missing bolts, plastic interior, the car hasn't transformed into a Rolls Royce or a Bugatti. I guess if you've got the money it's a different story, but why pay a million large for a car that was $3500 new, it's the same $3500 car, only the perception has changed, it certainly doesn't give me chills, but if I could go back in time to 1969 I'd buy a few.

some cars are bought as investments and others are to do whatever in a 900k car is one you drive not often and have it as a investment a car you pay 20 to 30k for is a car you drive and have fun with it all depends what you want to do have investments or drivers

The Charger Daytona is a rare bird indeed. Forget the numbers they claimed were produced but it was a flat out lie. They're not more than 500 of those cars according to a relative who worked in the assembly plant building them. Said the Nascar rep was there counting the cars rolling of the line(as they had to produce 500 1st before France would allow it to run on the track) and as they drove them by they just went around the plant and got back in line to be counted again.
That auction is probably the highest concentration of beer bellies on the planet.

The Rockford Files was some of the best tv ever imo. i mean how cool do you have to be to have a stunt named after you. there,s no mcqueen or wayne or anybody else . but there is a Rockford.
Those announcers get a lot of stuff wrong.

Burt Reynolds was given a new Trans Am every year as a promotion for GM, one year the car didn't arrive so he phoned GM, they told him their would be no more free cars as the chairman had died and since it was the chairman's idea to offer the free car the offer died with him.
Man I love the 68 and 69 charger, but for some reason the 71 charger speaks to me more. I just love the look of it.
I always thought it would be cool if someone would build some identical replicas of these cars.
Maybe some lighter components, better brakes, but yeah. So you could beat the hell out of them.

When these cars were new I thought they were big ol tuna boats and were only good for planning families in the back seat! In those days Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds ruled the roads. But now I’m old and go for big cars like these for a more comfortable ride 😂 I will say these auctioned cars are in beautiful shape!

He paid in scrap aluminum - about 2.8 million pounds of pull tabs he and his buddies had saved up since junior high. Joe only gets to drive it every third Saturday in odd-numbered months. He doesn't think that's fair, but what can he do? He's joe dirt, unluckiest man alive.

I could kick myself for selling my '69 Mach 1. The plan was to get another one after I was stationed at an Air Force Base after basic and tech school and buy another one with a stick. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find one before I got married and had a baby, and then I didn't have the money. I have a 2006 5 speed GT now that I really like now, though. It needs a new paint job, so I'm going to have it repainted like my '69. I got a 1969 hood scoop and can't wait to get it done.

had 71 r unr 3 yrs of total fun. gas consumption was 13 miles per gallon though at 70mph reached . 150mph easy stock. no speed cameras way b ack then.

The announcers need to do a better job of fact checking before they speak. There were no 429 SCJ engines offered in the 69/70 Mustangs, that engine variant was available starting in 1971.

Only a MOPAR, a Shelby Or a Race corvette gets that much $900k for a muscle car.

my first car was a 1969 roadrunner. it was 8 years old. hard to keep running. rebuilt motor in tobacco barn. went by moms at 124 mph in 3rd gear. had 4 spd. we lined them up at school daily and 2 was picked to go race instead of class. cost was 325.00 she sold it when i went to japan for military. sold for one hundred dollars. year 1980 it was 11 years old then. time is a thief my friends. i am still mashing on it. drag raced son at track on motorcycles. best day ever. 3rd race i almost did him in. almost. time is a thief.

I've known him, bought many Mopars since '79 with / for, around him, and I always thought he had more than most dealerships back in the day could ASK for at any given time.
I read in a magazine many years ago that he owned 20 percent of the original production.

It feels good to spy him in the crowd with his friends, Hank and Ed. Again at 47:24 beside the 66 Shelby Transporter Truck. These cars were his passion! Mustang, Boss, Shelby.

34:00 You know she said no to the sale because she wasn't happy with letting go of the previous car just before this one. For only 210 thousand. Which apparently was her baby. So there was no way she was going to sell a similar car for less. Just my opinion......
