@@Madmetalmaniac42069 I'll give you that, when I first listened to 72 Seasons, I was like, surely Metallica have to be kidding. Hardwired... to Self-Destruct was downright boring. almost like Load in that regard. But 72... even though I find myself listening to this album a lot, I think what comes to the WTF factor, this one surpasses Load by about a lightyear. This album also has a couple of wasted intros. Namely in "Shadows Follow" and "Sleepwalk My Life Away" and somewhat in "Chasing Light". Sleepwalk is probably the worst offender in this regard. Shadows is a cool tune with a lot of suspense, but it's kinda sad that the intro was never revisited in it. This album has some great lyrics if you're looking for positive messages. There's "Screaming Suicide" (as heard here) which is practically James begging for the lives of those who are suicidal, "Lux Aeterna", the chorus in "Chasing Light". Then there's an interesting one like "You Must Burn" which, to me, talks about the modern... wannabe-virtuosity, so to say. And then you suddenly have "If Darkness Had a Son" which is probably the only legitimate metal song on the whole album along with "72 Seasons". I loved this one instantly. It was a total gutcruncher to me. Shadows and Sleepwalk are two takes of the same theme - fear of life, really. "Inamorata"? Hmmh. I was kinda happy to hear that one live in Helsinki this year (2024), but it's those hyper-introspective Load songs... and it's the song that never ends, more than "The Day That Never Comes" will ever be. Yeah. Here's my review of the album "72 Seasons" that you never asked for. :D
One of the better songs on 72 ........I guess we should be grateful we still have them alive !!🙏🤘🤘
This song... It's really not the best Metallica have put together, but lyrics... They speak to me a LOT. More than many Metallica songs.
I do like the riff, but I overall agree. I feel that way about a lot of the songs from this album tbh.
