So I have watched all 3 videos and practiced them for a few days now. What would be the next set of videos I should watch to learn more about the game? Should I look at some more Ryu stuff or is there more mechanics that werent touched upon in this series.
I have soooo much trouble escaping throws. Seriously, it's like, the bane of half the matches i start off doing well in. Will hit the lab and train for it, but knowing the exact timing of the throws you set up for the recording to follow makes it a lot simpler to tech them than it is in a match when you're pinned down in the corner against an aggressive fighter. Really appreciate the guides!
Yo gootecks! Ty for all your hard work! Just started SF V and I made a training plan myself by listening to ur ebook and watching ur videos divided into different sections to train each day. Hot stuff right here keep it up mate!
Those videos helped me so much. I had 0-19 at first, but now I watched those videos and practiced a bit and suddenly I'm on a 4 game win streak. Feels great :D
Haven't played a SF since SF2 on the genesis. So far i'm like 20W-3L in SFV. It's all thanks to these videos (along with hours in training mode and my incredible reads of course). Frametrap video next?
Gootecks was like "well in Street Fighter IV what you could do is, well you know what I won't even get into THAT......" LOL....just even consciously reminding himself of the vileness made him pause.
So if you anticipate a tick throw, you have to time the jab, tech, or guess that shimmy. That's so much guesswork required on defense while the only execution required for attacker is to press jab then throw, or jab shimmy then throw.
Hope you'll teach about frame traps soon! Follow up question: Why does no one use cr. light kick as the opponents stand? Is cr. light punch a better option? I've had better success with the kick.
+Kappa Kreygasm I think most people do use cr lk. I know I do because it hits low and you can hit confirm off it. Maybe people use cr lp because its a frame faster?
Throws scare me so bad, I get so into the blocking game that I completely forget that he can just grab me super easily! Will definitely practice it though!
+CZ Productions Yeah I used to forget throws and feared throwing them too. In this game though from watching Excellent Adventures I've been trying to walk at the opponent after knock down and bait a block for a grab or throwing grabs when they block and stuff. when you get the confidence you throw them forever lol.
I'd always take a throw over a counter hit opener - SF4. Now that it's SFV I'm not so sure anymore. Tug of war momentum so strong here. Really helps that crouch teching now doesn't have a secondary power.
Hey Mr Gooteks, I was wondering if you had any tips on doing a critical art at the end of combos on stick... Trying to do Ryu's after dragon punch and I can't do the input fast enough on arcade stick. Tried blend but couldnt find ya. Love the excellent adventures ;)
+Alan Bragg Yo. So you can totally cheat this with shortcuts. the motion of the quarter circle while dragon punching actually contributes to the critical art input as one of the quarter circle inputs. In short, as soon as you enter the input for dragon punch, fire off a hadoken as quickly as possible.
Hey Reno, thanks for answering! Strange that they include the full input in combo guides when it's not required. Gonna try and implement the new knowledge now. Thanks man ;)
Why do you tap super fast 2 keys (not simultaneously) ? I noticed you were doing it when countering a l.punch>throw with block>c.l.punch... I play on a keyboard because i dont have anything else but I'd still like to know...
im new to sf and have only been playing fighting games for 3-4months. i startedoff playing injustice & Mk but i prefer sf for the challenge. what should i practice?
I am brandassnew at fighting games. My execution is spotty at times, but its usually with the directional pad. I know the inputs, they just dont come out properly. Shoryuken and SPD especially. Should I buy a fight stick? im new so I suck either way, so I figure I may as well get good on the one that would fit me best. can I buy them at the store or do I have to order one?
same here and I'm trying to play with keyboard xD honestly by just trying challegnes so far it all seems like you can do anything with any input device as long as you invest the time
Tried adding in this blend thingyma. I need all the help I can get. Have always been halfway decent at footsies and spacing but get constantly stuffed by combos and pressure. Learning combos in any fighting game is impossible for me because all the info online assumes you already know what you are doing with combos. Just want a character by character list of viable links to practice in training mode but no one provides T.T
+Meyeselph Hey if you are willing to put in a few bucks, Primagames has an excellent electronic guide regarding Streetfighter 5. It contains all the frame data for all the moves, all the best combos for each character and exactly what you should be doing with each character at the different ranges during battle. You can even add your own notes to it as you go.
A kind of tick throw thats been getting me is after I block a jump in attack. I block a lot of those when I'm meterless with Karin, and I'm getting thrown a lot. When I try to tech I tend to get counterhit. What to do in those situations? My opponents seem to tech it easily when I try doing it to other people.
I'm gonna get technical and advanced here cos it's the answer only way to answer this. That happens because of blockstun. Go to training mode and make the computer jump in on you with light, medium and heavy attack and proceed to throw after. Notice the changes. Basically each attack cause you to be in a state where you can't do anything and different attacks has different timing. The best way to deal with these kinds of tickthrow is to delay the tech. Basically when they jump in and you block, just hold downback for a bit longer then press throw. You are doing 2 things, if your opponent continues to attack, you will block. If they throw, you will tech.
I like that Gootecks is doing these. He wouldn't have to if the damn game released with modes that helped newer players. What can you expect from an unfinished game? Not much.
I'm a 900LP noob trying to learn the game. I'm getting destroyed by opponents who throw me just as I get up. What are my options as I get up? I'm guessing my light punches don't have enough time to start because the enemy starts the throw animation while I'm still on the ground, making up for the 5 frames start up. And if I get up into a throw tech I'm in danger of getting hit by other attacks. If people knew I have no idea how to defend from that they could just throw me as I'm getting up and beat me every time. What are the wake up options regarding throws and command throws? I'm playing Zangief, if it matters. What can I wake up with?
+Hamza “Desi Dragon” Sarwar lol not me. I have never really played a fighting game until wednesday. i'm really fuckin terrible lmao. how long did it take you do get decent?
Man. I'm at an absolute loss. It is absolutely unreal how bad i am at street fighter. I'm even losing against the button mashers that don't know how to block. Training mode doesn't do anything for me because i've got absolutely no idea how to play or use the combos in an online fight. I keep getting dominated. Haven't won a single match.
I love watching street fighter tournaments but i never played the game until I picked it up in the last steam sale. I want to become a decent player and I know it takes a lot of practicing and shit, but is there ever a point where you have to accept the game isn't for you? I see combo videos where these guys effortlessly string together attacks yet I can't even consistently DP a jump in. I feel like my hands are jittery in fights against actual players and that my brain and my hands are on a shit connection lol. Is it as simple as continuing to play and just building myself up or am I just a person who cannot react fast enough?
Na man, I think it's just so hard to "leave" the beginner phase and into the "decent" one.. but after you reach a certain point you'll just execute everything good. Try to learn where you have problems, fancy combos that you wanna learn, break them down to 3-4 parts and execute them little by little. Let your hands get used to the pad.. muscle memory is the key to success. While you are focusing on the game, your hands need to do the right things automatically with 100% accuracy and that is what makes fighting games so hard imo
ya i found it after..it got skipped in the playlist and didnt come up in news feed i was actually waiting for it lol i had 2 go look for it after this one
gootecks your wrong about the 90 ;) you can not escape hit and throw first you have any throw reveal and the frame prove you are stuck ,in sf2 and sf2ce i guess you are to young in the 90 to play competitive , after ssf2 add throw reveal
Watched all 3 tutorials - still suck. I am struggling so much with this game coming from Tekken. I just get trashed online. Bought SFVAE to try something new but I think I'll just go back to Tekken, stick to what ya know I guess.
Gootecks is *DONE* with SFIV LOL. That man gets a bad taste in his mouth every time he even _speaks_ the words 'Street Fighter 4' or 'focus attack'. All I can imagine him thinking is 1 word.. *Freedom.*
OmAr LiVeS What he probably was going to mention was the "crouch-tech." Long story short, IN SF4 ONLY, NOT SFV, if you're crouching and you input the throw, your character will do one of two things. If your opponent tried to throw you, you'll tech the throw. If he didn't try to throw you, you'll get a crouching light kick. In SFV, you'll notice that if you try the crouch-tech, you'll whiff a throw rather than getting crouching light kick, thus eliminating the crouch-tech from the game.
+Bhavin Solanki Did you miss like 80% of the tutorial? If they are going for tick throw you can: 1. jab them out 2. tech the throw 3. hold up during block strings 4. backdash 5. mash reversal... that's enough options to deal with it.
So I have watched all 3 videos and practiced them for a few days now. What would be the next set of videos I should watch to learn more about the game? Should I look at some more Ryu stuff or is there more mechanics that werent touched upon in this series.
This series is a lot like your ebook, but free. I appreciate you doing these. I've been sending my new-to-SF friends directly here.
Love the Kinetiquette's Street Fighter artwork.
Thanks for these vids Ryan...I've got a lot of research to do!
Can't wait for intermediate and advanced guides Gootecks the gooiest of the techs!
can you do a tutorial on frame traps?
I have soooo much trouble escaping throws. Seriously, it's like, the bane of half the matches i start off doing well in. Thanks for the tutorial videos. You've upped my game dramatically. Please do onther characters after Ryu. Necalli???
Lookin forward to the new excellent adventures with V!
...tick throws are a pain in my ass btw
Haven't played a SF since SF2 on the genesis. So far i'm like 20W-3L in SFV. It's all thanks to these videos (along with hours in training mode and my incredible reads of course). Frametrap video next?
Fiendin' for the new episode, helped me so much so far. still can't beat normal survival though... come on son need help!
Truth is that I am horrible at SFV but I am amazing at usf4 since everything changed, so it is good to watch this
stick to your fundamentals and forget everything sf4 taught you.
+Randy Chhun thx
The Gootecks shimmy lives on!
Gootecks was like "well in Street Fighter IV what you could do is, well you know what I won't even get into THAT......" LOL....just even consciously reminding himself of the vileness made him pause.
Hey Gootecks very informative videos keep it up your doing a great job slowly explaining to your misfit class.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Really helpful and insightful. Good stuff. :)
`Furiously writing notes: shimmy but what could it MEAN?!
So if you anticipate a tick throw, you have to time the jab, tech, or guess that shimmy. That's so much guesswork required on defense while the only execution required for attacker is to press jab then throw, or jab shimmy then throw.
I need to watch all of these
I appreciate these videos, really helpful stuff for someone like me whos trying to get into the game

+Kappa Kreygasm I think most people do use cr lk. I know I do because it hits low and you can hit confirm off it. Maybe people use cr lp because its a frame faster?

Gootecks is indeed good at throwing, Kappa
+NaleshSA Shooting Shade OP! Nerf plox!
I still have bad habits and will keep hitting tech during blockstrings workout thinking about it. thanks sf4
the legendary gootecks shimmy
Jo bro thanks for this great totorial keep up this good work respect !!!
I'd always take a throw over a counter hit opener - SF4. Now that it's SFV I'm not so sure anymore. Tug of war momentum so strong here.
Really helps that crouch teching now doesn't have a secondary power.
+Bank Alexander So glad gooey even said the part 'Back in SF4.. you know what that doesn't even matter anymore' hahaha fckin oath.
Do more tutorials, frametraps, safe jumps, I want to learn more

Alg man. hope it works out.
Timing of combos please for part 4 for beginners like me..your videos helps me alot :)
so mashing lp/lk aint a good option when you want to get someone off you? what shall i do instead^^
Are there any more vid to go in this tutorial?
Thanks for the tutorials, its realy helpfull.
Will you continue these beginners tutorial ???
May the answer is No

+Reno It's a potentially good resource but I have exactly zero context for how to properly read frame data as well.
It teaches you how to read frame data. And even if you just ignore that, its character knowledge and combos lists are worth the money alone.
A kind of tick throw thats been getting me is after I block a jump in attack. I block a lot of those when I'm meterless with Karin, and I'm getting thrown a lot. This game definitely isn't finished but almost zero fighting games have an actually useful tutorial, so those two things are pretty unrelated.
sadly only KI has amazing "teach you the basic"
+Xeno Angel Yea, KI and Skulkgirls. It's pretty sad.
and blazblue
+kira_bane2 oh really? Nice. Anime games especially need good tutorials lol
Think you can teach Necalli, Rashid and F.A.N.G down the line? Being that they are new characters without a history of play to go on?
Bafeal has some stuff for you if you really need it. But I found necalli super easy to learn.
MohawkLogan I found his super easy to learn myself. Hate the character though I did okay enough with him in the Beta. I'll look into it, thanks.
I added you on blend but I don't see a group chat.
Great video
I record the dummy doing this in training, but i can always block it with a throw of my own? can someone help me please?
awesome

you hope they mess up the timing or get ready to tech throw. there's no option to go to unless you want to risk doing his 360 spin and getting baited
+Randy Chhun I can also get baited into whiffing a normal throw if I try to tech. Would a wake up SPD beat a normal throw?
D00dable that I'm not to sure of, but I highly doubt it. I don't play enough grapplers to know that specific information
is anyone having trouble recording wake up attacks in practice? every time i try to record something, nothing happens during the playback.
+espie Either a bug or you are not doing the reversal in the correct timing. Check to see if the reversal message pops up when you do it.
hey gooey how do i R. Mika?
Part 4 pls
good shit!
why is it all my grow options with Zangief get beaten by throw.
Finally now I won't fall for wake up throws that everyone's been doing online
No kidding lol that shit is infuriating.
+Tony614 or they spam a CA on wake ups
+Hamza “Desi Dragon” Sarwar I have been playing fighting games for 3 days now. You'd think I'd know better.
+Tony614 it happens usually they just spam since they think losing means they lost their honor lmao but yeh I got better now
+Hamza “Desi Dragon” Sarwar lol not me. I have never really played a fighting game until wednesday. i'm really fuckin terrible lmao. how long did it take you do get decent?
aww was this the last episode :( im uber noob i need all the help i can get
Does anyone know what fightstick he is using?
The guilty gear madcatz one that was I think the first ps4 stick available from madcatz, can't get it now
Doesnt TE2 work with ps4? Is tht a good stick to get for a ps4 because im buying a ps4
Pre order the second wave of madcatz sticks now that on their site :D te2 is ps4/3
Alright, thanks bro
Don't try to weasel out of this with an ad-hominem. Address my point.
Hit confirms plz :)
When you gonna add me to the group Gootecks? I be sitting on Blend with you as my lone friend! .....D:
Typo in title. *basics*

I like Tekken's throw breaking system _much_ better.
agreed that and soul caliber.
Did I miss part 2
+Abelardo Espinoza did you?
+Abelardo Espinoza yeah it was blocking
did I miss the how to press buttons tutorial?
gootecks your wrong about the 90 ;) you can not escape hit and throw first you have any throw reveal and the frame prove you are stuck ,in sf2 and sf2ce i guess you are to young in the 90 to play competitive , after ssf2 add throw reveal
here's a better definition for tick throw. it's the thing that makes scrubs like me rage quit :
10/10 series (not really)
im guessing none of this worked out at the mcz tournament?
Watched all 3 tutorials - still suck.

What could do you in SF4 with the throws? u act like the game doesn't even exist anymore. ppl r still playing SF3
OmAr LiVeS What he probably was going to mention was the "crouch-tech." Long story short, IN SF4 ONLY, NOT SFV, if you're crouching and you input the throw, your character will do one of two things. Im sure this is helpful stuff but I can't take listening to you smash on your buttons like that ugh
so the tutorial series died as quick as the game. great.
so basically 15 years after it is still cheap and impossible to avoid the throw.
+Bhavin Solanki Did you miss like 80% of the tutorial? If they are going for tick throw you can: 1. jab them out 2. tech the throw 3. hold up during block strings 4. backdash 5. mash reversal... that's enough options to deal with it.
