@ I respectfully disagree. There are other dynamics at work such as money and injuries when it comes to Flo and other media/sports outlets. The athlete has to protect themselves physically and financially, and 95% of the time the deal is not consummated due to money or injury; not for a lack of desire.
@ Spencer Lee is most certainly at the top. It is a great match up. Ono and Lee have different styles on their feet in so far as their signature moves. On top, Ono does not want any part of Lee’s leg lace. Lee does not want any part of Ono’s gut wrench. I am excited to watch.
Wrestling needs more of this. More prominent matches between the best guys. The next evolution of wrestling is increasing the number of prominent matches of Team USA guys. USA wrestling should partner with the Collegiate Wrestling tournaments to do something fun like the guy who wins Midlands, after the championship match, gets to wrestle one of the Team USA guys in Freestyle. Imagine this year if Messenbrink could enter a tournament and a match with Dake was waiting at the end if he won. Everyone would be at that tournament. It would drastically increase tournament attendance and interest.
as much as I would love for the US to have a easy path to gold, to be the best you have to beat the best. Ono is no joke. a victory against him at the world championships would definitely prove Lee is the best of the best rather than not having much competition.
I'm thinking more for the future of Hawkeye Wrestling, and We need Spencer to attain whatever he wants to achieve, and then we need him to report to Iowa City, and either become a short time assistant, with the knowledge that he's taking over the program. I'm sorry. But the Brands have had their time at Iowa, and now we need somebody new. Spencer Lee.
Spencer had his shot at Gold last olympics and came up short with a semi-retired Japanese wrestler who beat him clean and pure, last period. He should retire
This isn’t folk-style RBY. Lee wants another shot at the best. Ono needs to make weight though. Brands will have Lee watching that gold medal match a hundred times in the event it happens….
Personally, I guess Lees skeletal will bid him an untimely farewell. And coaching sux. You have to get on a mat 7 days a week even summer and fly/drive to the point your bladder deforms. Maybe for college football salary. Who? Cael, Taylor, Ryan (no portal, low NIL)
