actually he is a great guitar player and a great musician and like you said he sounds like a verry nice person Batio was also voted the No. 1 Shredder of All Time by Guitar One Magazine in 2003 and At the age of fourteen he started playing jazz guitar, and within two years he had won the Chicago-based "All-State Jazz Solo Award". He attended Northeastern Illinois University and achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition (from wikipedia)
I met him in a music store in Florida, and he is a really nice guy. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of how Great this guy really is.
I like how he says at the end "lets move on to something more advanced", like we've picked up those riffs after watching the lesson one time!
I had to watch it three times before I could play those.
Riffs are examples, the point of this lesson is to learn to tremolo pick one note
One thing i have always respected about Micheal Angelo Batio the most, is he is a very humble, and down to earth man...anything i have ever seen the guy on, you don't get the 'ego' vibe off him like you do with Yngwie and some others. He is an incredible guitarist, no question. The best guitarists in my opinion are those whom are forever learning themselves, and willing to pass on the knowledge to others...too many forget they had a 1st day playing too, and look down their noses at new players
Most of the great guitar players are have the same down to earth personality such as Chuck Schuldiner, and one guy (idk his name it's not coming to mind😅😬🤔)
This guy is a true educator of the guitar. Hands down!
Michael is a BIG in everything he plays. Really great guitarist and teacher too.
Met this guy few day ago... Very very sympathic
Frédéric R No such word, try again.
Highly sexual?
Wow, thank you Michael Angelo Batio. I could never figure out why I was on the ball one day and off the next with alternate picking, and now I know it was because of index finger/thumb movement. Can't believe how effortlessly fast I can play by taking those two fingers out of the equation.
like or not his music style, he's one of the best guitar instructors
"I wanted to sound fast." Well, Mr. Batio you've certainly accomplished that. You've influenced my playing greatly, check out the solo on my song "Evil Robot"
2:31 "Now we've worked on the tremolo, lets move onto something more advanced." WHAT?! THAT WASN'T ADVANCED ENOUGH?!
LOL, yes. His technique, skills are huge. But he has also deep knowledge about theory of music, so he understands what he is playing, the scales, keys , chord progressions and all this stuff
I asked him once at a clinic about tapped arpeggios and he told me to go buy his DVD. This was a clinic with an entry fee, mind you.
I torrented his stuff as soon as I got home.
So you're a pirate great trait
@@christopheclugston who would not want to be a pirate? 8 )
My Grandma has the same haircut, but she cant teach me those amazing guitar technics :(
Lmao
perfect style!!!!! you are the keeper of the speed!!
a lot of classical music pieces sometimes go really fast, lots of notes are played in a row, nobody says it's "not musical." Besides he doesn't always play fast, he also plays slower, more melodic stuff. Now if you're used to listening to rock/hard rock players playing some bluesy licks with distortion, I can understand that it takes some getting used to ;) I like bothe styles. The guy knows what he's doing, cool licks, riffs, awesome player overall and cool dude in life!
He is a left handed guy and he still picks it so cleanly!! \m/
Thank YOU MAB!
not only playing he's really good at teaching guitar
You can hate his style all you want but fact is Batio outclasses technically many if not all of the self proclaimed "virtuosos" who commented here........ I mean just look at some of the odd meter shredding this guy incorporates in his songs!!!!!!!!! Just because you talk some technical bull shakakaka you read in some fusion tone bologna article doesn't mean you can do it. So post a link to your awesomeness after your hater comment so we can see your technique which probably only includes some crappy zeppelin covers and your glorious home made improv jam on GarageBand....... I can't wait......... Point is Batio is cooler than you even with the wig!!!! :D
I like how you think my inability to play as quickly as him somehow invalidates my opinion of his music. It's like if someone baked you a cake full of dog shit, and then said, "Hey, this cake is clearly delicious; I don't see you baking a cake."
+Eric Bishton Yes it does invalidate your opinion. Only shredders can understand the complexity and technicality.
Eric Bishton The worst thing about you is your shitty playing :)
I like his style.
He is real virtuoso of the world level, not only as compared to some ignorants here on forum, typing on their keyboards without thinking and faster than they can think.
Great information! Thanks!
hey MAB you´re the fucking king of shred
great advice - i'm still a beginner but I get what you saying...i jumped straight into notes at first...but one I focused on smoothness and consistency...then was the breakthrough...and my thumb aches a lot right now :)
Michael the best guitar teacher in world
Thanks so much for keeping text over his picking hand throughout. Wouldn't want to see what's going on there or anything.
You don't really need it bro... 😊🙏
@@AndoniDiazPuerta it's handy for observation though 😀
Just kidding 😊🙏 we, our followers will thank your observations and analysis 🙏🙏
Great lesson! I am playing better instantly. ❤️
i dont see how he is non musical.... Apart from having a degree in music, has anyone actually listening to the incredible melodies his songs have? i mean thats my opinion, everyone else has their own. And yes he is genuinely a really nice guy (:
Yea when people say that they’re really saying “I don’t like his music”. It’s no different than play X doesn’t lay with “emotion” by that they mean how they define playing with emotion which again actually means”i don’t like that kind of music” they’re just snobs of the music they dream “better”.
@@russellward4624 Some of it is unconscious jealousy I think lol. I think shred music sounds like shit, but I still practice it because it makes you waaay better at playing everything else. It's simply the hardest stuff that guitar has to offer, even if it all sounds the same. If you can play the shit Batio plays, you can play anything. Learning insane shred songs is probably the fastest way to improve your technical skills.
@@MrCholoPants3415 100% its just snobbery. "My music taste is the best so if I dont like it then its shit" is what it boils down to. They cant accept the possibility that music they dont like might be good.
wooh i love that guiter
How to get fast: Learn the basics > learn to play gypsy jazz > apply those principles to shredding
mh synyster gates
you can hate this guy for being "non musical"or whatever. But besides that, he sounds like an amazingly nice guy.
this guy lives and breathes music. he is criminally underrated.
I agree. I didn't say he was, I just mentioned a general present opinion in people.
12 years never been able to get to my dreams and it all started with not ever being able to shred
Awesome lesson!
Also, MAB is a leftie, and plays right handed...like myself, so i have to applaud him for that too \m/\m/
The majority of fast pickers don’t move their thumb or index finger, but then there is Yngwie, who looks like he’s knitting when he’s shredding. 🤷🏼♂️🤣
MONSTER player !!!!!!
My respect to Batio!
His voice is nothing like I expected it to be.
'There's nothing faster banging on one note'.
Yes, and then he plays with the same speed whole the lick over 6 strings :) IMO underrated by music media REAL VIRTUOSO,
I mean few interviews etc. Why he's not invited to G3 btw? :)
what michael angelo calls a riff, most players call the greatest solo ever.
"there is nothing faster than banging that one note" shit got creepy. look at his eyes. man...
I like his stail,no 1 guitarist in this world
you know eddie does 80% of all work in every song!
Hi! I'm Michael Angelo Bate/Bait-yo!
How u do for the up string not to sound and disturb the sound When you play fast ? Cuz I see that you dont put ur wrist on the strings When play fast
I learned fingerstylev(Chet Atkins) around 9 years of age, and recently last 8-10 years have been learning faster Yngwie type stuff. I still use a thumbpick. Is it possible to get faster? I have a few videos posted here. Just looking for some advice. Thank You!
I just realized Mike has a MIDDLE pick up . the makes it much easier to anchor the fingers in that raised position . i have seen him with out a middle pick up also, i think, but his signature guitar has a hand rest ..lol
Actually got his degree from Northeastern Illinois, but yes I agree with you.
MAB IS THE FASTEST!
any electric guitar player vs pace de lucia . what you think
What secret is that? Is it something that you are willing to share. I can pick pretty fast, but I can't get to the the next level. There has got to be something that I am missing.
yeah Van Halen rules the main problem ive got with the players who came after him is apart from Steve Vai and Joe Satriani the rest of them turned the guitar into a contest to see who could play fastest like for example Yngwie Malmsteen everyone was wowed by his speed but then MAB came along and went faster then guys like Kirk Hammett just ruined the whole thing by playing a million notes int eh high E string as fast as possible it used to be about the music but as i said today its all a contest
The camera angles completely miss to show how the whole hand is not supposed to move.
I don't really understand what about the hand is supposed to move, if not your wrist and if not your fingers.
He became a demon at 1:43
Why does everyone comment about him being nice?! I'm not saying he's not, but why him in specific?!
Ive always heard of this person and never new he was from middle earth.
0:39 one does not simply pick fast :D
I think MAB and Paul Gilbert are the best guitar teachers
Who said "non musical"?! Listen to his Peace, Rain forest and No boundaries compositions! He usually uses lightning speed riffs to decorate his songs. But if you don't hear the main melody (the slow part) in a song, sorry, you are not able hear melody at all!
Pleaaase: HOW DOES HE PAMMUTE??
Hello, Barney, where is Betty? You play guitar?
Haha I'm a lefty but play right handed as well, that makes three, whether that actually helps my playing....well my channel will tell you that xD
For alternate picking it's true, it's a rule, but moving the thumb can happen when you play economy picking and I think in this case is acceptable
your picking cant get any better than this. learn from this guy or just pick ordinary and be frustrated with your playing for the rest of your life.
hes pretty fast!
His background (the many hours)where he he reheased his ass of,was to irritate his sister!lol!
Yeah. I wouldn't call it non musical either. To me its more a matter of personal prefrence^^
Did he just say he was going to move on to something more advanced?
Can anybody recommend me some beginner/intermediate DVDs it would really help
Fala muito...
listen to some of rusty cooly's stuff..
listen you mean van halen is more famous then mab in the 80s. evh is my favorite guitarist , he influenced me alot . but its not whose better , because every guitarist learns something new everyday. as if you played an instrument you would learn to respect other musicans.
THE 5 DISLIKED IS THE SON OF MAJINBO
I said that you could do It. I do not agree with it... I think he is musical in his own way...
that hair
you mean economy picking(secret)?
"Now lets move on to something a bit more advanced." HMMM O_O ok!! ..........click O_o thud.................mother enters room, "JOHNNY!!! whyy whyyyy! why did you even try!!!! ohhhh whyyy did you even try!!!
I *think* what he means is that it's meaningless whether or not you play from the wrist or elbow -- not that either approach is meaningless.
I think that's a silly question, since Paco neither plays an electric guitar nor plays a similar genre.
Non musical? listen to a ''new day'' not the best from Michael that's all I can think of at moment,, I know micheal angelo's version of ''all along the watchtower'' has screaming lead guitar feel especially towards the end, listen to the hole song, tell me if you think the lead guitar solos suck or have no feel.. people don't like me, Im told i have no feelings, ha! laughin .haha
There are always exceptions to the rule. I'm just pointing out that picking from the arm is in fact very bad, whether or not some shredder does it.
im in it to try to make as much cash as fast as possible just think about it if Metallica Guns N Roses and bands like them had not sold out then they would still be performing to small audiences in clubs in LA but because they turned their songs into songs everyone could enjoy they are now multi millionaires and are set for life
i noticed your profile name Metallica were as great as GNR in the 80,s but im afraid after the black album metallica sold out and i will say the same about GNR aswell they got too big and the fame and fortune went to axl roses head but u have to admit when they were together they were one of the best rock bands on the planet but i didnt say they were the best the best rock bands in my opinion were Led Zeppelin Deep Purple Black Sabbath Lynyryd Skynyrd and Queen
não entender inglês.
what about Guns N Roses they are clearly one of the best rock bands ever and they were on MTV all the time i think MAB only had 1 Mtv song and that was with his bad Nitro in the 80,s my point is 1 man and a guitar is never going to get you on MTV because to make great songs you need a band unless your names Freddie Mercury he was a genius
Actually Nitro had 3 MTV music videos. "Freight Train", "Long Way From Home", and "Cat Scratch Fever" (cover)
and billie eilish has more listeners than guns and roses but guess what that is not what music is about🤯
yes, of course he is left handed...
mab is a fantastic player, however. seeing him play without muting the strings really pisses me off.
I am one of the few that stays away from muting as well. Its definitely not for everyone... but if you develop a fretting technique that doesnt create much noise... playing without muting can sound a bit smoother.
That's one of the things that amazes me the most about his technique, he doesn't mute the strings with his picking hand and yet you still don't hear the other strings ringing out
His voice sounds so geeky, lol.
You shouldnt move your thumb. Now that you learnt that lets move on to next thing . blrlbelrklbklekrlwkblklw4ketlwkelgkrwelbklwkelrkb amazing shit... i fail that part.
Van Halen was better in the 80,s than MAB and Yngwie the main reason was because he didnt just play mindless shred all the time he actually wrote some really great rock songs where as MAB has only a handfull of good songs and they were never on MTV and Yngwie,s songwriting is dreadful i think he only had 1 song on MTV in the 80,s and thats it LOL
aha LOL
Good lesson , but the only problem Michael speak too much
Yeah guys, it's just a piece of cake...pfff...
wig?
lol, something more advanced..really? Still digesting the first part.
He sounds like Jerry Springer!

BS... Always use the elbow.
hes left handed no shit but plays right hnded
That picking style sucks, dont do it at home !
