i might be the only one who thinks this but i really thought laszlo and sara were going to be a thing. i thought their chemistry in the first few episodes (up until he slapped her and ruined everything 🥴) was CRACKLING and much more potent then whatever sara and john ended up having, which kind of came out of nowhere. i also felt like mary and laszlo came out of nowhere although with them it felt more... believable?? might me just me though, i’m not done with s2 yet and have to see what the general consensus in the fanbase is

It is absolutely not a matter of being a disgruntled shipper when I say that John and Sara had the chemistry of a block of ice, and Laszlo's romance with Mary felt incredibly unhealthy and bizarre. They barely communicated (I'm not talking about verbally, and no: angsty glances don't count as genuine communication), appeared to have no joy between them until after they got together, and Mary clearly worshipped him. No offense to their shippers, but ew.

@@tabithaprovan957 to her, he was her master, or maybe even her "god". he saved her, raised her up. so yes, she was subservient to him, but with a twist. he expressed hybristophiliac tendencies throughout S1 (I haven't seen S2) - having a blinding attraction to murderers. he was dying to know what it felt like to kill someone. that was what drove him to Mary so much as well. he was secretly afraid of her. the scene when she's in the kitchen, angrily cutting vegetables, and wiping knives - with the smirk, as he leaves her be. he knows her true nature and respects it. fear mixed with awe. so yes, it was a bizarre but potentially fascinating relationship, because it unfortunately never evolved, since she died. furthermore, her silence was mysterious to him. he elaborated on what attracts him to her, but I found more than what he talked about. she was somewhat his "tamed beast". this is more prevalent in women - desires to tame a violent and/or murderous male. so in a way, it shows how his anima was strong with her, same as her animus with him. this is what allowed him to express his vulnerability in front of her. again, there was so much potential in this relationship, as the op said already, I was left in disbelief that they literally just took it all away. on the other hand, Sara's character was just bland imo. at least to him, who was drawn to the darkness and mystery of the human mind, that Mary represented quite well.

They did Mary so dirty. She was such a compassionate and unique character. I loved her. She should've lived and got together with Dr. Kreizler!

Given that Daniel Brühl gave us such an extraordinary performance as Baron Zemo in the MCU it would have been incredibly cool to see Q'orianka Kilchner as "Echo."
