"Could you kill someone with horse tranquilizer?"
March 23, 1993. Haylei Jordan is 8 when her mom asks her if she wants to leave everything behind. The little girl doesn't realize that her mother has just cut off her ankle monitor and wants to take her daughter on the run.
March 18, 2002. Almost a decade later, Haylei is faced with another terrible decision after years of turbulence and uncertainty: she has to protect her mother even if it means calling the cops on her for what she has just confessed to her.

"they bought matching underwear, slept together... They were best friends"
My guy 😂 they were LOVERS
HOLD UP BRO'S ACTUALLY ON TO SOMETHING!!! 🤯
Right. All I could think of was "they were roommates".
Eh sorry, not so fast! Not all best friends that do those things together equal lovers. I have several best friends to this day and we did all of the above together EXCEPT sleep with each other.
@@C-SD LOL 😂

“Cold blooded killer” but all she did was protect her daughter.
She put her daughter in that position in the first place though. Of course we should protect our kids but we should also know better than to put them in danger in the first place. She's not some kind of saint and it's weird to act like she's just an innocent victim in all this.
She did kill in cold blood - she could have left with her daughter. This was not the same thing as self defense that happens in the moment as you are being attacked. My heart goes out to the mother - she made a lot of bad choices and was in trouble a lot, but she obviously had a tenderness for her daughter. Ultimately, we can't take the law into our own hands as civilians and murder another, yes in cold blood.

It's weird to say, but the letter Elisa wrote to her daughter really is beautiful. It sounds like she truly understood her mistakes and just wanted to apologize and finally return all the love and support she got from Haylei over the years. No child should ever have to do that, but at least she finally acknowledged it.
this is a comment that I wanted to say but didn't know the words for.
@@tsukitomoon150 Glad it resonated with you! I'll be honest, it took me a bit to find them as well.
It's true, the letter Elisa wrote to her daughter does sound heartfelt and sincere. It's important for people to acknowledge their mistakes and apologize, especially to their loved ones. Hopefully, this gesture brings some healing and closure to both Elisa and her daughter.
I cried on that part.
@@fourfurrypaws9294 Me too. I think her mother held on to sanity as long as she could for her daughter and she just snapped coz she realized she put her child in danger.
Her last letter to her daughter actually made me tear up. Yes she killed a man but at its core she only wanted her daughter's safety, doesnt excuse she did it but also this was to protect the ones she loved after seeing him strangle her daughter.
So why was it wrong,then?
@eh-i1841 they planned it beforehand, it was for their safety but it was not in that moment self-defense, it was premeditated. Had it happened that moment & she killed him then to save her daughter, then they could argue self-defense but in this case no.
@@eh-i1841Its to prevent the next mother to put fatal justice in her own hands. This is also to protect a human soul bacause when one takes a life, that person's soul can never be unbroken.

The first time I've teared up or cried from one of these; not tears of anger, disgust, or despair. This woman was mentally ill, struggling to survive, to keep her daughter alive. The letter she left Haylei sums it all up. Get help. Don't run. They were both strong in their own ways. Happier ending than most. A film adaptation is necessary.
Absolutely! 😖
Agree! This is the first true crime doc where I’ve felt more compassion for the perp than for the victim.
@catherinegearhart2102 Of course... Because the perp is a woman and a master manipulater.... Even in death she is still conning people

As an abuse survivor myself, I give Haylei Jordan all the credit in the world for her courage in exposing the evil that she experienced.
I’m actually proud of her for writing that letter to her daughter! Although she was selfish in her life the love for her daughter can’t be denied ,in that letter she took complete accountability …. I respect that
she took 0, she checked out before taking accountability. she was still running away from everything, thats not accountability
She wasn't selfish. She knew that she'd ignored her mental health issues, but sometimes they just can't be ignored any longer. It's an awful, heartbreaking story.

Wow, Alisa's letter to Haylei had me in tears. I love the advice she gave about being honest and seeking help when needed. I wish that Alisa had been able to do this for herself. 🕯
I have seen videos on this case on multiple other shows/channels and this was the best coverage by far. You guys got all the important details, clips, photos etc and uniquely told the story from her daughter’s perspective. Which I had not heard before and is actually very powerful to the dynamics of it all. Thank you for your great work on all the cases you guys cover. 🎉

Best friends DO NOT buy matching underwear and sleep in the same bed together. They were obviously in a relationship together.
Me and my best friend do this... We're not lovers.
Not everyone does this but, like... It's not OBVIOUS they were in a relationship.
I thought that at first too and then I realized that me and my best friend do all of that stuff. She's literally my best friend, of course we're going to basically be twins and do everything together. Some people are platonic soul mates, not romantic ones.
My ex best friend and I used to buy matching everything from underwear to clothes and shoes and we did sleep in the same bed together sometimes but there was never anything sexual about it. We weren't lovers.
Okay that's not common for straight adult women though lol
She is trying to be a best mother she can but struggles with mental health..that’s really sad 😔
Or she's just simply a selfish criminal who only considers what's best for herself, and not her daughter...?

Your respectful and empathetic approach to storytelling is a beacon of light in the true crime community, honoring the victims' memories.
Every time I watch one of these videos I'm always blown and heartbroken for all the kids that are involved at such a young age. Please keep up with these amazing videos!!!
I know she was a con artist, and even a murderer, but she was being abused by her husband and so is her daughter. I think if she wouldn't have killed herself, then maybe she could got a pretty lax sentence. Sadly, her criminal background probably would have prevented that.
She killed somebody
It's a tragic situation all around. Abuse can have profound and lasting effects on individuals and families, and it's heartbreaking to hear about Elisa and her daughter's experiences. It's possible that seeking help and support could have led to a different outcome, but the complexities of the legal system and past actions can complicate such situations.
If she was such a good person why did she change her identity so many times? Why did her daughter turn her in? Stop it!

This story is so sad but so beautiful at the same time the last words that her mother said to her were just beautiful words.
I lived with my alcoholic mom who always tried to be a great mom but…when I was 14 I ended up going to live with my sister while my Dad worked in Chicago…the unstableness of daily life with my mom was scary, I learned stability and dependability from my sister and did well for decades but once my divorce came about I went through that instability for a couple years and fully regret putting my kids through those years, my kids were very fortunate that their dad was a good father but I know I scarred my kids 😢
I needed to hear that letter. 😢 I hope we all make it through.

Even thought that woman was a bad person she left the most beautiful note
So so so so tragic. She was a good woman , a loving mother, she just struggled mentally and she didn’t know how to get help. I’m in floods of tears hearing how sad she was leaving her daughter, she loved her so much. She raised a beautiful, amazing, law abiding child. She should have never confessed without a lawyer. A good lawyer would have easily got her a less sentence and the help she needs. My heart breaks for this mother 💔💔💔 I hope she is watching how amazing her daughter is now, she would have been SO proud 🥹😣
I know people feel bad for the killer but she always chose the wrong path and dragged her daughter along. She killed him because she was cheating on him and was probably tired of him questioning her. She took the cowards way out. No sympathy for cons who take advantage of others
Reading the wiki page I feel like some was left out about this. Like she stole identities of actual people
I also don’t believe the daughter’s self defence story. Her mom is a con artist and a sociopath.

I remember watching an episode of "Snapped" about this case.
Kudos to Haylei for doing the right thing. It must have been a very difficult decision for her to make at such a young age. Despite all the MANY mistakes that Alyssa made (including murdering the man who laid his hands on Haylei)... Alyssa still managed to raise a level-headed, intelligent, caring daughter. Haylei is a perfect example of not having to let your past define you, and that a bad childhood doesn't excuse bad behavior.
The letter she wrote broke my heart. Its sad the lady dug herself a huge hole through everything. My heart breaks for them in general.
Poor Hailey, it's not her fault she was a great daughter! Her mother kept going and trying to make things better until she couldn't anymore! I honestly think Hailey was her mother's everything she just didn't know how. I'm not standing up for the woman's actions.

This is a wild story.
I went to Highschool with Sarah Dutra. She was our senior class president. Never in my wildest imagination would I picture Sarah would take this road in life. Just goes to show you don't know people.
At our last HS reunion we weren't allowed to talk about her.
Oh ya! I'd definitely catch a charge protecting my family!
That letter made me cry
Was not expecting to cry at that letter
Wow what a stronge girl ❤
This gutted me in ways I was not expecting, quite honestly. Beautifully told story.
Haley is truly something special. And one thing that I hope she knows for sure is that despite her mom’s sickness ~ she clearly loved Haley with her entire soul. I almost feel like she sacrificed her life in the belief that continuing to live would hold Haley back. That, along with her decision to drop Haley off on the side of that road, was the most selfless, courageous thing that she had probably ever done in her life.
In hearing all sides of the story, I do feel as though there were definitely mitigating circumstances in this situation. It seems to me like she truly felt trapped, already had tons of years worth of trauma resting on her shoulders (even if some of it was self-induced trauma) and didn’t think there was any other option than what she and her cohort did to Larry. I think that she didn’t feel good about what she did. I don’t think she was a terrible person. I think she was just so very mixed up and continued living the only way she knew how to live.
There is such beauty in this story, although I am still mindful that a man’s life was taken.
I just feel this immense sense of pride, wonder and gratitude for the path that Haley chose to take for her own life. Her mama knew that her daughter was so incredibly special~ and she was right. Haley’s story is an amazing testimony for anyone who is able to listen to it. No matter where you come from, no matter what awful things may come your way throughout this crazy thing called life~ we can choose to do something different and do things that we might never have thought we could do.
Sorry for the long post~ I am just stunned at who Haley has become and how she has turned out. May God continue to bless this woman and her lovely family ~ she is deserving of all the beauty that she has created for herself.
In closing~ the words that her mother wrote to her was so much more than just a goodbye letter. It was a gift to her daughter and also the ultimate act of making amends in the only way she felt she had left.
Love the fact that we were formally introduced to Ralph, the dog.
