Mr. Otero's story broke my heart so completely from the first time I heard it. He told the police not to allow his younger siblings to arrive and enter the home...all the while they were inside dead. Kudos to the detective who saved that (bodily fluid) sample, never contemplating that it would be so very valuable one day.

I've heard of BTK before, but I've never till this day heard from the survivors of the families he destroyed. Their stories are so much more powerful than his ever will be.
There are also videos of his daughter tallking about the impact on her life and there is one video of her first interaction with him in 18 years. She's been helping investigators solve cold cases possibly perpetrated by him this whole time since his conviction.

Yeah, imagine working on a truly tragic crime, retiring from your job, possibly holding guilt for your whole life since you found never kind the criminal, and then about 30 years later you hear about him finally being caught.
The horror these children went through is insane. The helplessness every time I watch one of these videos is so big but we have to remember that while we are living our lives these things are happening to other innocent people

good video, but it has a false misleading clickbait title. charlie gets no revenge, he gets closure and moves on by literally giving up on his wish for revenge. if the killer had intended to ruin his life, then that could be considered revenge indirectly, but the killer did not care about that in the slightest, so no revenge at all. charlie is not even part of the reason the killer is caught, or sentenced, or anything. He is a survivor who overcomes the struggles forced on him and an example of the failure of our society to protect victims, which is a powerful story on it's own, but again, revenge has absolutely nothing to do with it and is an actual lie.

This truly was 'unseen' because in all the true crime and serial killer stuff I have watched over the years, I've not actually heard from Rader's survivors. Bless them and I hope the love of their lost ones continues to follow them throughout life.
This has been the absolute best mini documentary that unseen has put out, hands down. Yall were so respectful of the victim and didn't make it a pageantry for BTK.

I have no words...just utter devastation, loss. My sympathies to Charlie Otero, Steve and all surviving families of victims. I'm glad Charlie has turned into a different person, bonded with Steve. I wish them both healing, and other victims' families too. Deciding to celebrate, remember his family and the love they had, remembering his parents love for each other...I'm so happy. This was amazing! This is the first commentary EVER that I heard about BTK that focused more on the victims and the carnage that he left behind because of his evil and not focused on Dennis Rader.
'Unseen' is a very good name for your channel. Showing the lives of survivors of the crimes. This one was very moving. I'm so glad those 2 sad and wounded men have become friends.
My mother is from Wichita, my grandfather was a prosecutor during some of the first few murders of BTK and that had scared him half to death. So the family on my mothers side know all about this as they lived in fear due to this man for several years.
I was struggling so hard not to cry during so much of this, choking up a lot. I was mostly holding it together until the comment about "my mom would have had a chance if i could have untied those knots, but I was just a.5 year old boy." I was choking up or crying most the rest of it. Had to stop when i heard the way he was described when you imagine the face of the devil, ti got a laugh despite the crying. But god. I knew of BTK, but I had never heard the story told so focused on the survivors, it was a whiplash response. I love the way this channel handled it.

That.... Was extremely emotional. I feel so much pain for the poor children of these victims. To see how different and troubled their lives became as a result of one horrid individual is just so damn heartbreaking. To imagine what could have been... I'm so happy that the two men found each other and not only helped each other overcome their own personal demons, but to also help each other truly heal, truly be happy and to believe in their faith again.
24:20 - The cops didn't lie, you cannot trace a floppy disk. However the document file on the floppy contains the meta-data (the registration info) that caught him. If he used a plain text file instead of Word or some word processor software he may not have been caught! It's was not the floppy, but the document format he choose that gave him away.

Seeing the survivors is always fascinating because most media focuses on the victims and killers. The survivors are often nameless and believed to be living “a quiet life” after the traumatic events but the reality is much worse and the healing is never ending. It can be impossible to move forward and have healthy views of life when one’s childhood was robbed. My heart breaks for all victims and survivors. I understand the very valid feelings of wanting to seek revenge after witnessing your entire family lose their lives. I can’t imagine the pain but the beauty in this story of two survivors living for each others loss is inspiring for all victims who are still going ❤
You know after all the pain i was feeling from the beginning of this documentary, it melted my Heart that Charlie and Steve sat together and found strength and Hope for a better future... TOGETHER ❤ It is well 🙏🏼

I think everyone in Wichita feels very close to this case. I was personally very emotional while listening to his trial on the radio at work. Charlie Otero came on a tour through the motorcycle manufacturer I worked at around the time of the trial. You could just see and feel the pain he had gone through. But he was very kind. I've prayed for him a lot. That was almost 20 years ago. I hope he's doing well today

It's beyond sad & messed up but no amount of depravity will ever fully destroy decency and compassion that exists in a certain amount of humanity. Also most SKs are not higher than average intelligence, only a handful of the most well known ones. If they were all smart, changed up their MO, and were not bound to their fantasy the police would never detect it as a series unless there's DNA which is relatively new in forensics.

I don’t usually cry during these videos but this one made me bawl uncontrollably. I am so happy that these victims were able find a better view on life and have a happy ending from all the pain and hardships they experienced. I truly believe some type of higher power prevented Charlie from doing what he planned in the courtroom. This case is one I will never forget.

Likely due to a few factors- one being that the family didn't seem to have issues with anyone. Then there were pretty much zero clues left as to who did it, indicating it was professional, or at least someone who did it more than once and knew how to not leave evidence (as might be tied to other criminal endeavors). Last, and I think this most likely why, was that they were tortured. Torture is generally either highly personal or to send a message. If it's personal, it would be just to the one person they had an issue with. But if you're some criminal kingpin wanting other underlings to know what happens when you cross them, that might include this level of horror on an entire family. None of this is concrete or anything- obviously, because this was the work of a single psychopath- but as far as trying to find reason, you go with statistics and things you've seen a few times before in similar circumstances. That would be the only explanation they could come up with to explain such a horrible thing.
That is a cope for people that wnt an explanation so that they can go on w their lives w the uncertainty of the unsolved crime and at large killer. But itbis stupid and an outrageous insult to the victims!

We need more help for victims of trauma, especially children. It’s no coincidence these two boys ended up living the way they did, they experienced so much pain and the images they saw were etched into their minds forever. In those days, people didn’t even know about trauma. So many people thought children would just adapt and get over things. Not at all. Killers don’t just kill the initial victims, they murder the family spirit too. So awful 😞

In a middle sized city in the Midwest, I was moving into a house in the center of the city. It was occupied by someone that wasn't paying their rent, and they were being evicted. The landlord asked me to go over to tell the person that I was moving in, and gave me a key. The person wasn't home at the time, but I saw he was reading the BTK book and had lots of "roaches" in an ashtray near the book. A few weeks later, I was moved in and noticed the back door was open, when it clearly shouldn't have been. I called the police, and they found the previous occupant hiding in the basement. Always pay attention to your surroundings.
This is one of the most emotional documentaries of the btk killings i have seen. It's really well done and humanises the victim's families and the long aftermath of trauma and healing for them.
This was truly very emotional. I'm so very glad that this evil serial killer was finally caught and that the family of the victims found some sort of "closure'' at the trial of this worthless piece of s**t! So many lives destroyed, I'm glad that Charlie and Steve found each other and can draw strength from each other. Sending a big hug of comfort to all of the victims families from afar.

The horror these children went through is insane. The helplessness every time I watch one of these videos is so big but we have to remember that while we are living our lives these things are happening to other innocent people

good video, but it has a false misleading clickbait title. charlie gets no revenge, he gets closure and moves on by literally giving up on his wish for revenge. if the killer had intended to ruin his life, then that could be considered revenge indirectly, but the killer did not care about that in the slightest, so no revenge at all. charlie is not even part of the reason the killer is caught, or sentenced, or anything. He is a survivor who overcomes the struggles forced on him and an example of the failure of our society to protect victims, which is a powerful story on it's own, but again, revenge has absolutely nothing to do with it and is an actual lie.

This truly was 'unseen' because in all the true crime and serial killer stuff I have watched over the years, I've not actually heard from Rader's survivors. Bless them and I hope the love of their lost ones continues to follow them throughout life.
This has been the absolute best mini documentary that unseen has put out, hands down. Yall were so respectful of the victim and didn't make it a pageantry for BTK.

I have no words...just utter devastation, loss. My sympathies to Charlie Otero, Steve and all surviving families of victims. I'm glad Charlie has turned into a different person, bonded with Steve. I wish them both healing, and other victims' families too.

This is tragic and the ending where Charlie talked about how BTK’s killing dictated his life and he’s sorry for it made me tear up a bit.
This was amazing! This is the first commentary EVER that I heard about BTK that focused more on the victims and the carnage that he left behind because of his evil and not focused on Dennis Rader.

My mother is from Wichita, my grandfather was a prosecutor during some of the first few murders of BTK and that had scared him half to death. So the family on my mothers side know all about this as they lived in fear due to this man for several years.

I was struggling so hard not to cry during so much of this, choking up a lot. I was mostly holding it together until the comment about "my mom would have had a chance if i could have untied those knots, but I was just a.5 year old boy." I was choking up or crying most the rest of it. Had to stop when i heard the way he was described when you imagine the face of the devil, ti got a laugh despite the crying. But god. I knew of BTK, but I had never heard the story told so focused on the survivors, it was a whiplash response. I love the way this channel handled it.

That.... Was extremely emotional. I feel so much pain for the poor children of these victims. To see how different and troubled their lives became as a result of one horrid individual is just so damn heartbreaking. To imagine what could have been... I'm so happy that the two men found each other and not only helped each other overcome their own personal demons, but to also help each other truly heal, truly be happy and to believe in their faith again.
24:20 - The cops didn't lie, you cannot trace a floppy disk. However the document file on the floppy contains the meta-data (the registration info) that caught him. If he used a plain text file instead of Word or some word processor software he may not have been caught! It's was not the floppy, but the document format he choose that gave him away.
The look in raders eyes, that is the look of an absolute sociopath. A monster. A demon. That is the eyes of pure evil. Only someone of such depravity could truly speak the words he spoke without a glint of emotion in his eyes

Seeing the survivors is always fascinating because most media focuses on the victims and killers. The survivors are often nameless and believed to be living “a quiet life” after the traumatic events but the reality is much worse and the healing is never ending. It can be impossible to move forward and have healthy views of life when one’s childhood was robbed. My heart breaks for all victims and survivors. I understand the very valid feelings of wanting to seek revenge after witnessing your entire family lose their lives. I can’t imagine the pain but the beauty in this story of two survivors living for each others loss is inspiring for all victims who are still going ❤
You know after all the pain i was feeling from the beginning of this documentary, it melted my Heart that Charlie and Steve sat together and found strength and Hope for a better future... TOGETHER ❤ It is well 🙏🏼

I think everyone in Wichita feels very close to this case. I was personally very emotional while listening to his trial on the radio at work. Charlie Otero came on a tour through the motorcycle manufacturer I worked at around the time of the trial. You could just see and feel the pain he had gone through. But he was very kind. I've prayed for him a lot. That was almost 20 years ago. I hope he's doing well today

Also most SKs are not higher than average intelligence, only a handful of the most well known ones. If they were all smart, changed up their MO, and were not bound to their fantasy the police would never detect it as a series unless there's DNA which is relatively new in forensics.

I don’t usually cry during these videos but this one made me bawl uncontrollably. I am so happy that these victims were able find a better view on life and have a happy ending from all the pain and hardships they experienced. I truly believe some type of higher power prevented Charlie from doing what he planned in the courtroom. This case is one I will never forget.

Likely due to a few factors- one being that the family didn't seem to have issues with anyone. Then there were pretty much zero clues left as to who did it, indicating it was professional, or at least someone who did it more than once and knew how to not leave evidence (as might be tied to other criminal endeavors). Last, and I think this most likely why, was that they were tortured. Torture is generally either highly personal or to send a message. If it's personal, it would be just to the one person they had an issue with. But if you're some criminal kingpin wanting other underlings to know what happens when you cross them, that might include this level of horror on an entire family. None of this is concrete or anything- obviously, because this was the work of a single psychopath- but as far as trying to find reason, you go with statistics and things you've seen a few times before in similar circumstances. That would be the only explanation they could come up with to explain such a horrible thing.
That is a cope for people that wnt an explanation so that they can go on w their lives w the uncertainty of the unsolved crime and at large killer.

We need more help for victims of trauma, especially children. It’s no coincidence these two boys ended up living the way they did, they experienced so much pain and the images they saw were etched into their minds forever. In those days, people didn’t even know about trauma. So many people thought children would just adapt and get over things. Not at all. Killers don’t just kill the initial victims, they murder the family spirit too. So awful 😞

In a middle sized city in the Midwest, I was moving into a house in the center of the city. It was occupied by someone that wasn't paying their rent, and they were being evicted. The landlord asked me to go over to tell the person that I was moving in, and gave me a key. The person wasn't home at the time, but I saw he was reading the BTK book and had lots of "roaches" in an ashtray near the book. A few weeks later, I was moved in and noticed the back door was open, when it clearly shouldn't have been. I called the police, and they found the previous occupant hiding in the basement. Always pay attention to your surroundings.
Charlie and the others amazing strength and resilience to live through this entire years having no information. God bless your son saved.
This is one of the most emotional documentaries of the btk killings i have seen. It's really well done and humanises the victim's families and the long aftermath of trauma and healing for them.
The media has always had a trend to over sensationalize these sick pieces of work and give it a nicknames and capitalizing on the fear of people
This was truly very emotional. I'm so very glad that this evil serial killer was finally caught and that the family of the victims found some sort of "closure'' at the trial of this worthless piece of s**t! So many lives destroyed, I'm glad that Charlie and Steve found each other and can draw strength from each other. Sending a big hug of comfort to all of the victims families from afar.
