They said that extensive training was required before a Martian could fully develop all of the skills, and that some never did. A much simpler explanation could be that Garfield got his powers too late to be properly trained, or that Miss Martian/Martian Manhunter didn't know how to teach him. (Sticking to YJ universe)

I actually enjoyed his origins being changed in Young Justice. It gave an fantastic explanation why he could change his form in the first place, it gave an good insight why he only changes in Animal forms as his Mother lead a Animal Sanctuary and it gave an amazing dynamic between Garfield and Megan as Siblings. I like to think that it is a combination of the blood transfusion and the psychological aspect due to the occupation of his mother.

the demon thing was because THAT was a native species of that dimension. there was actually a scene in that movie where he completely freaks out as his body adapts to the "morphogenetic field" of that particular world. Likewise, he can ONLY turn into something that actually existed..so no mythological beasts. (which in a comic book dimension is more nebulous than reality, but there you have it) There WAS a story arc in the comics where this got inverted, and he could in fact only become creatures that NEVER existed...but this wound up being an effect of some demonic posession he was unknowingly under at the time. The young justice version DOES make more sense. It also possibly leans towards an interesting possibility for someone somehow capturing a martian and using thier malleable genetic makeup to create a whole new subspecies of metahumans. In my eyes, Young Justice Beast Boy is the GREATEST Beast Boy EVER. Finally he was dynamic. Finally he wasn’t just dumbass comic relief. Finally he competent. Finally the traumas he suffered weren’t just cast aside as nothing.
There was thi commentary on one of your previous videos, where a person said that maybe his skin is green is due to the martian blood, but it is not white, because White Martian is basicly a Martian but with diferent gene that dies their skin white. Since the majority of Martians are gree it would mean that green gene is dominant while white one is recessive. I asume he got his powers because as time passed by, the blood that was changed started returning to its previous state, but since he was kind off, 'reborn' as a martian-like creature, the whole proces with dominant and recessive genes took place and the green gene ended up 'wining'. I like this new origin story, because it gives more potential for one of my favorite charakters in DC. Maybe he does possess other martian powers, but he can't use them because of the mental block, you have talked about earlier. With telepathy it could be like, he accidentaly discovered this power when he was attacked by someone and he infiltrated the mind of the attacker, but since he had no experiance in this, he was really rough and once he left the mind of whatever person that was, he ended up badly damaging the mind of that person, to the point that he ended up drooling on the ground. It could've caused a psychological travma(Like he ever needed another one) and caused he to never try using other powers he might possess except for something he is familiar with - shapeshifting into animals. Maybe that is the reason why he doesn't turn into other things beside animals, like Miss Martian does. He can, he just doesn't want to, afraid of what it might cause to the others, or even himself. I think its defintely possible for more powers to develope within him. I have given it more thought since i made the video and I'm thinking that maybe he only got shape shifting because the genes she used were shapshifted to be his cells and once they got in his system they multiplied and spread and maybe caused his genes to become more malleable like them. so he can change them at will but since they were matched to his specific DNA they didn't contain the genes required for miss martians other powers, but they contained the shapeshifted powers because they had been shapeshifted but probably not 100% the same as beast boys, so they still had a little shapeshifting power in them for his body to adapt to, if you follow what I'm saying? As for the white martian thing I honestly don't know if its a dominant gene or not, it obviously a metaphor for black people and white people but reversed with white people being oppressed to show how stupid and unfair racism is, but if we accept that its the same then its possible for a white martian to give birth to a green martian and vice versa, since white women can give birth to a black baby and black women can give birth to a white baby if the genes a throwback so yeah i'd say it possible
Just wanted to say- If Miss Martian's white skin is a resessive gene, then she wouldn't possess green genes at all, therefore Beast Boy didn't get green skin from her natural Martian genes. I don't know how to explain this, but I'll try. Every baby gets a chromosome from each parent that determines their genes. On people displaying recessive traits, this means that they took a recessive trait from both their father and mother. In Miss Martian's case, her mother is stated to have been green and her father was white, so that means her mother must have had one dominant gene (the one that makes their skin green) and one recessive gene (the one that makes their skin white), whereas her father had two recessive genes. Following the rules of a Punnett Square, this means that there was a one in two chance that any child they had would be white; Miss Martian was unlucky enough to be a white child. Now, if she passed blood to Beast Boy and he took her normal genetics for skin tone, Beast Boy would have been white. Why? Because in her natural form, Miss Martian doesn't possess the green trait at all. It's more likely that he got the green trait from her shapeshifted form than anything, since she must have changed her DNA to have at least one dominant green gene in order to appear green instead of just... changing it to have a normal human skintone, for whatever reason. It's possible that Miss Martian's white skin is a bizarre result of incomplete dominance or that white skin is actually a dominant gene somehow, but both of those scenarios seem unlikely, TBH. I mean, this is alien DNA we're talking about and it's possible that things work differently than people, but under the assumption that they use the same rules, Miss Martian could not have passed the green gene to Beast Boy via her normal, unshifted Martian blood.
I always remembered Beast Boy from the original TEEN TITANS on CN and he is still my fav character from it. But I think there is no explanation on it why he's green. Nonetheless I prefer the comic explanation why he's green. I remember when I was a child my fav color was green and it was bc of him.
This backstory is the only one I will ever consider his backstory. Also beast boy can use the creatures of the demension or planet he's in, example: when he went to hell he started transforming into demons but he's never been seen to be able to use them when he goes back to earth

Personally, I don't think that the blood transfusion is even responsible for his powers. I think that he always had the metagene for animal shapeshifting and it simply got activated after the shock of his mother's murder.

I think it’s an adaptation you know miss martian can shape shift so those blood cells she gave him made his other blood cells have to adapt to the shapeshifting blood. So in the process it changed his whole dna in the process and with that added mutations making him green helped his cells adapt easier and it was easy for his body to change his screen due to the cells already adapting to miss Martians dna.
Originally he was a member of Doom Patrol and later joined the TT and his shape shifting powers were just animal's from dog to ape etc then things happened he grew up and so did his powers it was thought he could communicate with other form of life and have knowinlg what that animal looked like true but he also found he could change into other strange things from legends and dinosaurs and other powers that were never revealed? His other code name was changeling and he night of went by the name of Boy Beast as well
I think it is because of the transfusion and not subconscious thoughts. Miss Martian said her change is at the cellular level. If she gave the blood while her skin was green then her blood cells might have contained the genetic code for green skin as well as her shape changing abilities. Not sure if it made Beast Boy turn green right away, but if it took time as her blood cells spread the new genetic code to his own cells it makes sense.
just a shot in the dark....He got the ability to shift from Miss Martian, but when the Green monkey nibbled his wound, he contracted the same virus that makes the monkeys skin be green. It would take years of training and time for him to mimic color beyond his now natural skin color of green.
maybe the reason he is green is because she was in her green form for the transfusion she transforms/ can transform on a cellular lever there for she had the pigment green in her dna in the blood that's possibly why he's green
Here is the story of him, the team went to miss Martian's favorite person in a show's house and that person was a lady named Megan and her son Garfield passed away so miss Martian got blood from his bleeding nose and turned it to her blood and it was now good blood so she made a blood transfer to him and now he's green like her. I think he's Connected to the Red(like the Green, but for animals), which might be why he can change into animals of different worlds or extinct, cause connects to the world's Red and history of the Red

I don't think that's even a question. What I'd really like to know is why Beast Boy turns into animals of whatever environment he's in. Like we generally only see him turn into animals that exist... or existed on Earth but when he visits Hell he instead is only able to turn into various Hell Beasts. If he goes to an alien planet, like when he visit's Starfire's home world, he's only able to turn into animals from that planet. Also if he got his shape shifting powers from Miss Martians why are his powers limited only to animals in the first place. Martians can shape shift into ANYTHING and they have a variety of other super powers as well, so why are Beast Boy's powers so limited?
I haven't watched the episode where we first figure out that Meg is a White Martian in a while, bit it's like a genetic mutation correct? Or a rare trait that is inherited? Which means that she MAY be a WM but that doesn't mean that the effects Meg transfering some of her wouldn't have caused any changes to BeastBoy/Garfield's pigment of his body. Aka the coloration of his hair,eyes,skin, etc.

The Young justice TV series blood transfusion does make more since to me as well for giving him powers, but I prefer the reason in the origin comic being that he had an illness rather than just an injury.
I thought he had the power to turn into every species it makes more since or at least the less complex ones like it would be difficult to become a Martian or criptonian but he used to not have the ability to change into things like a rex or demon so I thought that would be a thing he learns as he grows
I like the version from Young Justice league better then the original, yes it is more tragic with Garth loosing his mom. But he becomes Miss Martian adoptive brother which gives him the love he needs and allows him to hone his powers.

Every baby gets a chromosome from each parent that determines their genes. On people displaying recessive traits, this means that they took a recessive trait from both their father and mother. In Miss Martian's case, her mother is stated to have been green and her father was white, so that means her mother must have had one dominant gene (the one that makes their skin green) and one recessive gene (the one that makes their skin white), whereas her father had two recessive genes. Following the rules of a Punnett Square, this means that there was a one in two chance that any child they had would be white; Miss Martian was unlucky enough to be a white child.
Now, if she passed blood to Beast Boy and he took her normal genetics for skin tone, Beast Boy would have been white. Why? Because in her natural form, Miss Martian doesn't possess the green trait at all. It's more likely that he got the green trait from her shapeshifted form than anything, since she must have changed her DNA to have at least one dominant green gene in order to appear green instead of just... changing it to have a normal human skintone, for whatever reason.
It's possible that Miss Martian's white skin is a bizarre result of incomplete dominance or that white skin is actually a dominant gene somehow, but both of those scenarios seem unlikely, TBH.
I mean, this is alien DNA we're talking about and it's possible that things work differently than people, but under the assumption that they use the same rules, Miss Martian could not have passed the green gene to Beast Boy via her normal, unshifted Martian blood.

I always remembered Beast Boy from the original TEEN TITANS on CN and he is still my fav character from it. But I think there is no explanation on it why he's green. Nonetheless I prefer the comic explanation why he's green. I remember when I was a child my fav color was green and it was bc of him.

EdgeOf1996 yes every Martian can shape-shift however there are martians were naturally white and martians were naturally green and besides on Mars everyone communicates telepathically so I'm pretty sure you could find out if I Martian is white or green pretty easily ask for Red Tornado / John Smith he may be seen as a Mele by most however he is not biologically a man he is a machine therefore he is easier to turn into because he is made up of nuts and bolts.

I think it’s an adaptation you know miss martian can shape shift so those blood cells she gave him made his other blood cells have to adapt to the shapeshifting blood. So in the process it changed his whole dna in the process and with that added mutations making him green helped his cells adapt easier and it was easy for his body to change his screen due to the cells already adapting to miss Martians dna.
Originally he was a member of Doom Patrol and later joined the TT and his shape shifting powers were just animal's from dog to ape etc then things happened he grew up and so did his powers it was thought he could communicate with other form of life and have knowinlg what that animal looked like true but he also found he could change into other strange things from legends and dinosaurs and other powers that were never revealed?
His other code name was changeling and he night of went by the name of Boy Beast as well
I think it is because of the transfusion and not subconscious thoughts. Miss Martian said her change is at the cellular level. If she gave the blood while her skin was green then her blood cells might have contained the genetic code for green skin as well as her shape changing abilities. Not sure if it made Beast Boy turn green right away, but if it took time as her blood cells spread the new genetic code to his own cells it makes sense.
just a shot in the dark....He got the ability to shift from Miss Martian, but when the Green monkey nibbled his wound, he contracted the same virus that makes the monkeys skin be green. It would take years of training and time for him to mimic color beyond his now natural skin color of green.
maybe the reason he is green is because she was in her green form for the transfusion she transforms/ can transform on a cellular lever there for she had the pigment green in her dna in the blood that's possibly why he's green

I've always liked the design of the white martian. It actually looks like an alien--something unseen.
Here is the story of him, the team went to miss Martian's favorite person in a show's house and that person was a lady named Megan and her son Garfield passed away so miss Martian got blood from his bleeding nose and turned it to her blood and it was now good blood so she made a blood transfer to him and now he's green like her. This is a quick story

In my opinion, the blood transfusion is to blame, this is because before his transfusion, his eyes are blue (skip to 1:09 in the video) after the transfusion, his eyes are green (4:09). The full beast boy episodes are S1E21 and S2E02
have to say that I agree with our video host in that the Young Justice version better and is likely a bit more beliveable, and was happy to see the nod to the original origin in the show.

Well, given the world the characters are living in I think it makes more sense with a blood transfusion fro a shapeshifter, than a random drug.

He's green due to his strong willpower allowing him to control hos abilities and survive no matter what. There's a comic series where he instead is captured and tortured/experimented on and gives into the savage rage he feels towards his captors, turning him red instead.
I think he's Connected to the Red(like the Green, but for animals), which might be why he can change into animals of different worlds or extinct, cause connects to the world's Red and history of the Red

I don't think that's even a question. What I'd really like to know is why Beast Boy turns into animals of whatever environment he's in. Like we generally only see him turn into animals that exist... or existed on Earth but when he visits Hell he instead is only able to turn into various Hell Beasts. If he goes to an alien planet, like when he visit's Starfire's home world, he's only able to turn into animals from that planet.
Also if he got his shape shifting powers from Miss Martians why are his powers limited only to animals in the first place. Martians can shape shift into ANYTHING and they have a variety of other super powers as well, so why are Beast Boy's powers so limited?

I haven't watched the episode where we first figure out that Meg is a White Martian in a while, bit it's like a genetic mutation correct? Or a rare trait that is inherited? Which means that she MAY be a WM but that doesn't mean that the effects Meg transfering some of her wouldn't have caused any changes to BeastBoy/Garfield's pigment of his body. Aka the coloration of his hair,eyes,skin, etc.

The Young justice TV series blood transfusion does make more since to me as well for giving him powers, but I prefer the reason in the origin comic being that he had an illness rather than just an injury.
His origin story for his power, made sense, I always had a distaste for the hax the martians could do.

I like the version from Young Justice league better then the original, yes it is more tragic with Garth loosing his mom. But he becomes Miss Martian adoptive brother which gives him the love he needs and allows him to hone his powers.
