Triumph Trident 660 vs Kawasaki Z650 | The Perfect First Big Bike | ZigWheels.com

  • The dream of owning a big bike is addictive. In the mass market segment, the first tryst with performance for most Indian bikers is in the form of bikes such as the KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the TVS Apache RR 310. But when the time comes to make the next jump in performance and displacement, the natural choice is the 650cc class. Over the years, the Kawasaki Z650 has been a crowd favourite owing to its sensible quotient and the dash of performance from its parallel-twin motor. However, that isn’t the case in 2021. With the advent of new bikes such as the Triumph Trident 660 and the Honda CB650R, buyers have more options than ever.
    The Honda CB650R is the only inline-four-cylinder bike available in this segment. However, its absurd pricing makes it more of a niche product. The Triumph Trident is the new kid on the block, it has the firepower from its triple-cylinder engine, a bunch of features and more importantly the aspirational Triumph badge. In this comparison we try to find out which bike is the better option for you when you make the leap into the world of mid-displacement performance bikes. We have tested the Triumph Trident 660 and the Kawasaki Z650 on the open highways, twisting mountain roads and the constricted city streets to find a definite winner.

    Trident has one powerful feature compare to Z650; Power To Weight Ratio
    Triumph really managed to keep it below 190KG. Even 1KG here and there makes a lot of sense within this segment!

    • @brendonfernandes2877
      @brendonfernandes2877 2 года назад +3

      Err the Z650 is also 190 kg wet. The Z650 has a 1 litre bigger tank so the differences between the two with similar amounts of fuel is negligible. That said the Trident is far better VFM at this time in India. The only reason I wouldn't go for it would be that its not meant for guys above 5 ft 11.

    • @hiteshgujarathi4636
      @hiteshgujarathi4636 2 года назад +2

      @@brendonfernandes2877 yah but trident is 3 cylinder and z is 2. So even having 2 cylinder extra so power its power to weight ratio is way better than z650. Also after sale service, service interval is better for trident so trident really hit the winning six here.

    • @brendonfernandes2877
      @brendonfernandes2877 2 года назад +3

      @@hiteshgujarathi4636 What a silly statement. The Z650 has 2 cylinders but it has 650cc engine capacity which is 10 less than the Trident. The engine size matters much more than just the number of cylinders and both have very similar engine sizes. The Trident has more power that's true and is a better buy if you have the money and have access to a Triumph service center which has fewer service centers. But comparing the weights just by cylinder is ridiculous.

    • @hiteshgujarathi4636
      @hiteshgujarathi4636 2 года назад +5

      @@brendonfernandes2877 looks like you are new to bike world. Cylinder capacity always makes difference when it comes to power ratio. Triumphs service is always better than kawasaki because you have to do service only once in year and it's reach is as bad as kawasaki. I live in Pune which is metro city and even we have only 1 service center here from kawasaki. So it don't make any difference.
      You are paying for kawasakis same old boring machine which didn't get any significant changes over the years. So trident is way better than z650 any given day.

    • @brendonfernandes2877
      @brendonfernandes2877 2 года назад +11

      @@hiteshgujarathi4636 Buddy I own a Z650. Bought the 2019 model. I still think the Trident is a better bike but you aren't convincing anyone about your knowledge of cylinders. Each engine configuration has it's own plus and minuses. There is a reason the best ADV bike the BMW 1250 GS has a twin cylinder configuration and the best track bikes have a 4 cylinder configuration. They both have their uses. Twin cylinders are for their low end torque while 4 cylinders are great for top speed. 3 cylinders are somewhere in between and a balance between torque and HP.
      And while the Trident is better it's not way better. For one the suspension is bad for broken Indian roads. The Z650 has much better suspension for our roads. And it's almost 1 lakh difference in price. If you spend one lakh more than the Trident you get the Z900 which is a far better bike. The Trident also is a very small bike and lacks street presence

      Both have well managed heat dissipation. However neither are designed for heavy Indian traffic. Wear jeans or riding pants and not shorts.
      Riding comfort depends on rider size and weight. Both are relaxed riding bikes but I wouldn't want to go more than 400/500 kms a day on either bike. Soundtrack of the triumph is far better than the Z650.

      @@bawabiker right. I'm not saying the price difference isn't there. You missed the point of what I'm trying to say. If someone is willing to cross a certain price barrier to pay for a premium motorcycle, shouldn't the Honda also be considered. The price difference and the extra cylinder and peformance can be justified.
      I'm no fan of the Honda pricing strategy and agree it's priced a lot more than the other two. For once we have options in the mid capacity segment with 3 different engine configurations.

Those who are considering these bikes generally don't wish to spend 2 and a half lakhs more upfront or else they would just buy something like a Street Triple rather than a Trident or a Z900 rather than a Z650.

    Definitely, i won't be buying the Trident because it has no resale value as I will be changing my bikes every 2 years hence I will always buy a bike that gives maximum profit while I sell it 👍

    Btw , zigwheels ! Asking you a question and hoping a answer,
    i used to race a 220hp race prepped R1 at the Virginia International Raceway, for 5 years , have sold it off to another racer before coming back to india, spent money in a house, and am now looking for a relaxed street riding, and enthusiastic riding, basically a veteran rider looking for a good street bike that can tour too, which bikes do you recommend for me ?
    Also I'm looking for a bike below a litre and above 300 ..
    Racing has caused my wrists to pain after a long time in the saddle, and due to much racing on my race prepped r1 , by back pain is due to that , I'm looking for a ok ergonomics bike (not a gargoyle).
    Can you suggest?.
