- This video ended up being WAAAY longer than I planned. If you detailed instructions with an itemized list on how to create this, you're out of luck, BUT if you want to watch me make a big deal out of every little thing and overanalyze stuff, I got ya covered. Seriously, I didn't plan for this video to be this long, I basically decided last minute that I was going to record myself while I did this and this is the video that came out of it. Hopefully you like it anyway, I had fun making it and I really enjoy doing this stuff.

26:15 I ended up ripping the front of the helmet off to redo the camera mic cable so I could fit the GoPro HERO7 and its ugly mic adapter. It was a pain since I had to ruin my superglue job, but it turned out great! I had to make the hole bigger to fit the new cable, but the fat mic adapter block actually hides perfectly inside of the chin vent compartment.

So you helmet looks good you can make a 3d file of the sena and flip it so it’ll fit on the other side, paint it then put it on the helmet

@@AngelPerez-fx6rr just because walt could do it (as he has many times in the past) consistently and to a standard that suits him, and he makes it seem easy, doesn't mean that it wouldn't be difficult to mass- or bulk-produce at a certain standard of quality. The market is slim, but I'm sure you could contract someone to do the job specifically tailored to you and your setup somewhere.

As an FYI, Arai says you don't need to replace a helmet if it is dropped. It'll damage the finish but the integrity of the shell and eps liner isn't negatively affected.

You should get those parts of the toys scanned, so they can be 3D printed, so that way youll have and endless amount.
or just design and create your own? wtf would you waste the time scanning and fixing them. all these things are extremely easy to design

walter! at 26:20 you can use a separator and glue on it some sort of a base for the ventilators ... and then use double sided tape between the base and the ventilators so when u take them a part u don't damage the painting .... damage would only damage a lil bit of the plastic removable part of the helmet if so at all! which is gonna be covered once u change the gopro or whatever work u do on them later

Been waiting for ages just to see this
I'd like to see you build this helmet with functional air filters and a small computer fan to pressurize it for positive ventilation and coms. Built one out of a Simpson 30 helmet years ago to run desert buggies. I used PVC tubing heated to curve around with the helmet side then sanded to tip to fit flush to vent into the helmet air port like a reversed NASA vent. Worked great, looked spacy like yours, but used a 12 volt remote fan in the buggy.
you could have put the sena in on of the respirator filters. just an idea
You could level the odd surface of the helmet under where the respirator will go by actually cutting small strips of the doublesided tape and use them to sort of level the low spots near the raised area on the surface of the helmet to allow for a flatter surface to apply the final strip of doublesided tape that the respirator would stick to.

Im so glad dropping a helmet doesnt actually make it unusable, otherwise id have gone through so many helmets, its only obsolete if you use it in an accident such as hitting your head and compressing the foam on the inside, which doesnt happen from just a drop

If all you're scavenging from those toys is two bits of plastic each, have you considered just 3D printing your parts in the future? It would definitely give you more customization options, you could design literally anything.

2.If you have any access to 3d printers you could 3d print a design that can house both the go pro and the senna kit looking like those two are integrated into the helmet itsself.Thatd be sick

Ever thought about making a motorcycle helmet similar to what you might see a Special Forces guy wear in combat... I see that they have communications built them... with proper headphones as part of the build... Figure it would be an opportunity for someone to finally build a motorcycle helmet that's blue tooth compatible, noise cancelling where someone could comfortably be able to hear their music and not the road noise...
Great video! The only headset out there that could fit your aesthetic needs/wants better would be the Cardo Scala palktalk slim. Even there I think the Sena was a great visual blend.

You should get some black Sugru for your future helmets. It's mouldable and can fill in the gaps when dealing with complex curvatures. And it doesn't bond skin instantly, like super glue.

This video is the reason for which I'm getting back into motorcycle riding. I'm going to put together helmet like yours but i want to give the filters a purpose and that'll be "battery packs" for x use. I'm good with electronics and I'll figure out something.

Next time use clear silicone caulk in order to glue anything to the helmet. It’s great for gluing things on plus you can take it off whenever you want

not really, soon as i saw it i knew it was shit
idk if u have problems with the air filters falling off or not but, when gluing plastic to plastic you can use a rough piece of sand paper and scratch up the 2 pieces you are trying to glue together so the glue has something to grab on to!

if i were to re create this i would personally 3d print the fins and the toy pieces and maybe the respirator filters too because it saves money buying parts and 3d printers do aesthetic parts amazingly

Dropping a helmet doesn’t make it not safe to wear. Dropping a helmet with your head in it makes it not safe to wear.

Walter - I'm doing something similar with my AFX / THH helmet (same as yours) - my approach is slightly different and I'll loop back to that once I've completed it. What I think would be cool, is a regular full face, flip up visor and guard etc. But star wars clone wars style, when visor is up, looks like clone with the visor, and with the fin on the back like phase one trooper

FYI If you heat those labels with a hair dryer, they will peel off without leaving residue.

Your mods to your helmets and bikes, makes me wish I was aloud to ride lol. so, so cool. With the toy parts, why not send them away to a 3d printer or vacuum mold creator. instead of searching for rare items?
If you want a stronger bond, scratch the surface of anything you glue or tape with some scotch brite. Clean it, then apply adhesives.
