The greatest moment in this particular comic isn’t even that. It’s when Vader saves Sabe (and Kitster and Wald) by enclosing them in a container after ordering his Star Destroyer to fire upon the device they were tasked with taking down. Watching Vader pick up Sabe and hold her while walking off into the light was one of the greatest moments ever in Star Wars comics.
True. The Sith are guided by passion, not by evil. The problem is that the Dark Side eventually takes away their goodness. The only exceptions are Sidious and Vitiate. Those guys were evil from birth.
As someone who has moved around for my whole life, I felt goose bumps just thinking about the one time i reunited with my 1st grade best friend after 30 years when I just randomly ran into him in my hometown in china. And im not even a dark lord of the sith.. yet
Being only a mild Star Wars fan, I find this information very cool! So, Vader, going deeper into his Sithness, still displays signs of compassion and love. Very interesting.
Man... Anakin's childhood as a slave is something I feel a lot of people don't ever really sit down and truly think about. Like, could you guys imagine? That's insane. Born a slave...
Yeah , although I really like the prequels, I think they touched the slavery topic and all the factors that slowly piled in in Anakin's backstory to make him eventually turn into the war criminal he became in a very light hearted way, to a point that one really often dismisses it , and I guess it was because those prequels back in the day were supposed to be written as a family friendlly franchise (the most they could do in terms of "darkness" was the Revenge of the Sith" tho cause there's no light hearted way of telling THAT story , and even by that I still remember newscasts warning people of being careful with bringing kids too young due to the "gruesome images" in my country). Nowadays with shows like Andor, Obi Wan , and all the starwars spin offs there has been more chance of dueling in a more darker way of telling these stories so the psychological weight of the characters are more evident . It would've been badass if Anakin's childhood had had the "Andor style" story telling treatment.
No kidding... I mean, DID they even look? They knew where to start, all they had to do was ask Watto and they'd have found her. It would've made more sense if they actually DID find her, but instead left her behind because she was happily married by then and instead freed a bunch of other slaves per her request.
@@Memelord1117 those were farmers. The handmaidens are fighters. And if this took place in between Episodes 1 and 2, they’d have found her just fine. Shmi was only grabbed by the Tuskens like a month or two before Episode 2
Now I get why Anakin said from certian point of view Jedi are evil. A mother's son helped them from doom. And they took her son away. Who could've protected her, kept him away till it's too late. Many injustices all around them and they just said it's not our problem. It's their problem only when the council said so...
Seriously they could’ve gone to tattooine, bought her and set her free. Instead they said to a 9 year old boy: „yea dude just forget about your mother living a miserable life in slavery attachments are bad“
A young slave boy that gets a chance at freedom while meeting the love of his life, a being that he akins to an angel. While simultaneously being told that he's going to be trained by a very exclusive order to wield immense power. When he's told he has to leave his mother behind, he only agrees to go so that he can become strong enough to come back to the planet and free his mother. ONLY to go to the Jedi and be denied training. Have the only father figure he ever had killed. Be told that he can't have feelings for one of the people he loved most. And then told that he can't save his mother, the other person he loves most. And during the entirety of his time as Jedi, he was ridiculed, scrutinized, judged, and berated. And that's not even considering the influence from Palpatine. The Jedi really failed Anakin, crushed his hopes and dreams, and were indirectly responsible for his mother's death. One of the most tragic characters to exist.
@@raymondcoventry1221, I wonder how they feel, now when they listen to obi wan's description of the jedi in a new hope, where he describes them as the keepers of peace and justice.
@@robertrosales2285 And they didn’t defend Ashoka in the Temple Bombing Incident, which lead to her leaving due to feeling alienated, which left Anakin without an ally to tell him that Palpatine was bullshitting him, and a friend. That was the Jedi’s last chance to prevent Order 66.
You should do the EU comic where Vader runs across C-3PO and flashes back to the droid he built as a kid. Vader doesn’t realize it’s the very protocol droid he built (thinking it’s just another 3PO model) but goes out of his way to save the droid from an on going battle in space frigate.
Apparently after Episode 5, there were many moments where Anakin came through a lot more frequently, because he was hoping Luke would finally free him.
Not necessarily free him from the Dark Side, but he finally had a purpose in life and could rule the Empire together with family and perhaps even kill Palpatine. And that Padmé didn't die in vain. That's why he didn't kill Needa at the end of Ep5 and why he's so soft in this comic. If this was pre-Episode 5 or even pre-Episode 4 timeline, Vader would've either let the beasts kill his old friends or cut them all down.
I kinda like the idea of rare moments of Vader doing good deeds, something that could never be allowed for the general public to know, as it'd kinda undermine his purpose of being seen as a purely terrifying symbol and enforcer of the Emperor's will. These moments of being forced to reflect on himself also really help build up to that final moment, like he had to slowly be nudged towards it over many years instead of suddenly changing his entire, deeply engrained Sith mentality, just because Luke was about to die
One of the very, very few moments of Vader doing something nice for others. There has been times where he rewards those that prove successful and useful to the Empires cause, but this came from Anakin/Vader. Despite how much darkness was around him, in him, running through him he still went out of his way to stop the governor especially when Vader himself couldn’t see it.
The time period is very important for stories like this. If it happened before his confrontation with luke it undermines the eventual breaking of the darkside and Sidius' hold on him. It was meeting his son on cloud city and his son almost dying that cracked the prison of evil he had been trapped in. Before that he would never be looking into padme's death in the first place. His walls were up so thick he couldn't sense he familial connection to Leia. If he hadn't been closed to everything other that hate a power he would have had visions of his children the way anakin did with his mother and padme.
Moments like these are what makes me appreciate RotJ so much more than Empire. Though most people say Empire is the better movie and has better highs and less lows, to which I can agree to some respect, I genuinely don’t think anything can top the whole last part with Luke and Vader finally interacting. Luke has no malice towards the man he knows as his father but instead a hopefulness towards him, knowing there is good within the man despite all he’s done wrong (it’s the tie in comics and everything else imho that starts taking away the idea of a redemption for Vader) and tries his best to bring him back to that time where he was a Jedi too. In this, we see not only has Luke become a true Jedi, a man able to set aside feelings of hate and anger and instead putting forth ideas of hope and goodness, but see that the man known as Anakin is still in there but he has been hiding from his pain and guilt by masking it with rage. Times that we can glimpse that Vader still has good in him reinforce this idea and really build up just why Luke can really be called the one true Jedi, not because he is the last (sorry, I just shivered typing those two words near each other), but because unlike many of those within the Order, Luke doesn’t immediately swat away the ideas of enemies being irredeemable villains. Even when Luke gets the closest to giving in to the dark side when he’s batting away Vader’s saber and being ordered to kill him by Palpatine, he calms himself and appeals to Vader’s sense of right even on the verge of death by lightning. And of course, this is all without bringing in the Disney fanfic that people are saying are canon movies.
Another awesome badass Vader moment, and another great video further proving that Vader was not "pure evil" like I've been seen so many damn people saying, especially those who choose to ignore his tragic backstory and why he became evil in the first place.
Vader was purely on a downward spiral. His fall started when he betrayed the Jedi Order, murdered younglings, was responsible for his wife's murder and fought the closest thing to a brother he had. After doing all of that, he knew that he had become a monster beyond redemption. All he had was the Dark Side, that brough him only suffering, and Palpatine, who was the only relationship he had left, even if it was an abusive and toxic one.
@@lisboah I agree 100%. It's no wonder he not only had extreme self loathing towards himself, but he was immensely depressed because of his actions and how he hated the man he used to be.
He was certainly "pure evil" between RotS and ESB, tragic past or not doesn't change the horrible stuff he did. It's not until after ESB that he starts to recognize what kind of person he is and later becomes a better person again.
@@randeli7785 you do make a point there. He was pretty much fuelled by hate and rage in his younger years in the suit, yet he mellowed out and become much more level headed overtime.
@@randeli7785 In Legends, he always hated himself from the get-go. There was one time when he tried to rescue Tarkin's son and used the Force to make the whole building fall apart with himself still inside. He was the only survivor because the hatred he had for himself kept him alive.
This wasn't Vader. It was Anakin. After Vader confronts Luke on Bespin, he takes a serious turn to the light, to the point where it's basically a conflicted Anakin.
It's moments like this that is the reason vaders mask was slipping and anakin was slowly but surely rising to the surface! Of course luke was always going to bring his farther back to the light (It was his destiny to do so) but these moments made it possibly that bit easier to do so.
Man, this really hits hard. Seeing the good person Anakin was as a child, coming back as a Sith Lord and saving his childhood friends. Even after all he did, can someone that committed so many atrocities be forgiven? Saved? Redeemed?
You think they figured it out when he jumped in the pod? Had to be a story a child goes off, wins a race. Becomes a Jedi… Then this strangely* anti slavery imperial with force abilities jumps in and saves your lives and takes off in a podracer with no words… “You don’t think that was?” “No way…. Right?” Kinda thing
Vader being an "under the table" anti-hero makes sense and its cool to see what the Empire could do if it was used like the Star Trek's Federation rather than a bloated self indulgent Empire. The Imperials could be a major force for good in the Galaxy if they wished it.
People aren’t realizing how wholesome Vader is being because Anakin is shining and influencing his decisions. Like when he just stopped and starred into his own thoughts when he realized who he was talking to is hilarious and the moment they’re like “ can I help yo…” “No” and Vader stomps off trying to be evil but Anakin not letting his friends get hurt and Vader once again stomps off like a toddler.
😂
So its canon that Ani gets to ride a pod racer again? Thats fucking sick man.
You know he was having the time of his life on the pod racer again
Honestly this nearly made me cry, Darth Vader being able to feel some humanity once again.
Right???
Because, deep down, Anakin wasn't really dead. He was just so maimed and alone that most of the time, only Vader lived inside the armor.
I think it's very important to remind people that the sith aren't bound by "evil" deeds.
They simply act in self interest
True. The Sith are guided by passion, not by evil. The problem is that the Dark Side eventually takes away their goodness.

Being only a mild Star Wars fan, I find this information very cool! So, Vader, going deeper into his Sithness, still displays signs of compassion and love. Very interesting.
Even Lord Vader cannot escape nostalgia for his past
I Love how Vader Just casually Hops on that Podracer 😂
Man... Anakin's childhood as a slave is something I feel a lot of people don't ever really sit down and truly think about.
Like, could you guys imagine? That's insane. Born a slave...
ROTS novel talks about how he recalls Watto's beatings while the Dark Side rages inside of him during his duel with Dooku.
How convenient they couldn't find Anakin's mother might have actually derailed certain Canon events had they succeeded
No kidding... I mean, DID they even look? They knew where to start, all they had to do was ask Watto and they'd have found her. It would've made more sense if they actually DID find her, but instead left her behind because she was happily married by then and instead freed a bunch of other slaves per her request.

Love how these stories make Vader’s redemption so much more gradual
Yep, back in 1999 you had theaters full of people saying 'So the Jedi just left his mom as a slave? What the hell?'

We need an entire film about Vader made of stories like this. That would be a bomb.
Can u imagine a TV series? Like seeing this on live action holy shit
Wholesome Vader does exist and he might hurt you.
With lots of hugs and cuddles?
You should do the EU comic where Vader runs across C-3PO and flashes back to the droid he built as a kid. Vader doesn’t realize it’s the very protocol droid he built (thinking it’s just another 3PO model) but goes out of his way to save the droid from an on going battle in space frigate.
lord thank the maker
@@simplyme85 What did you say
The one that takes place during Episode 5, where Vader holds 3PO's head against his after the scene where 3PO gets put into pieces?
Memory wiped remember? @@simplyme85
If this was pre-Episode 5 or even pre-Episode 4 timeline, Vader would've either let the beasts kill his old friends or cut them all down.
wow one of the rare moments of Vader actually having feelings.. also I love how he randomly uses the pod racer
As tacky as some of the canon comics can be, they always do Vader right. I do like these comics.
Anakin just wishes he can remeet his friends in a better condition. That way its less awkward and more pleasant.
This is one of my favorite canon comics series
Vader: (rides pod racer)
Sabé: “Lord Vader, you’re crazy, spinning is not flying.”
Vader: But its a good trick.
This needs to be done Live Action or Animated!! These stories are just too precious!!
Despite how much darkness was around him, in him, running through him he still went out of his way to stop the governor especially when Vader himself couldn’t see it.
glad these types of comics exist, it shows that vader is just a broken man, not pure evil
Damn...Vader is such a Tsudere
3:37 this image goes unbelievably hard. Can't believe someone drew this and have it be so perfect.
This is the kind of story that feels reminiscent of the Lucas era.
"I know there's good in you. The emperor hasn't driven it from you fully."
Anakin Skinwalker is truly a character of all times
We need a Kitset and wald Star Wars story series! Also I really love it! It’s show more of vader good side before his redemption in rtoj.
It’s always so nice to see anikan come out once in a while
That pod looked so sick Vader couldn’t help it
Knowing how painful Vaders prosthetics are, the fact that he moved so fast to save his old friends is absolutely crazy.
He has to use the force even just to walk because of that.
Why do people say empire is better
This may be my favorite Darth Vader story yet.
aye a new The Lore Master video, its gonna be a good day today !
Vader never escaped his past until he made peace with it
Man those comics have some SO cool stories.
Saved? Redeemed?
I can’t believe that Darth Vader did not kill his friends…. Anakin is still in there.
Always love the references.. helps to follow up on our own. Great stuff.
Why can’t we get cool stories like these in modern Star Wars movies 😢
i remember watching your videos when i was younger, they were some of my favorites! its really cool to see youre still going :)
You think they figured it out when he jumped in the pod?
Had to be a story a child goes off, wins a race. Becomes a Jedi…
Then this strangely* anti slavery imperial with force abilities jumps in and saves your lives and takes off in a podracer with no words…
“You don’t think that was?”
“No way…. Right?”

Imagine if the two lived into the time of the book Bloodline and found out about Vader being Anakin?
I am pretty sure Vader will off both of them if they start inquiring about his past. Their ignorance saves them big time in this case

One of the only Darth Vader comics I liked.
Vader being an "under the table" anti-hero makes sense and its cool to see what the Empire could do if it was used like the Star Trek's Federation rather than a bloated self indulgent Empire. The Imperials could be a major force for good in the Galaxy if they wished it.
Vader riding that pod-racer... epic. :D
Again some very good canon it shows Vader as he should be shown. A tragic figure not some monster like some thing he is.
Thanks for doing this. This was a beautiful story.
I wouldn't mind playing a star wars game focusing on Vaders stories
We were on the verge of greatness. We were this close to providing peace and security for the galaxy.
The idea of Vader on a pod racer is hilarious. He was being very childish this issue
Honor comes with loyalty and class, even evil can't stop pride.
Thats a really good story thanks for sharing this

Okay, we absolutely need a fan animation of Lord Vader riding that Podracer. It's just too uncanny to leave on paper.
