What did you think of Ragnar Yacht? Do you like the working man's yacht or do you prefer the shiny paintwork?
Does adding extra volume to the existing hull affect the stability of the vessel?
It’s a true James Bond Baddy Boat, that is.
This build has been followed in detail by YFS. I think it better than any normal superyacht. Love it. Will you be covering Hanstaiger trimaran? Good to see you, great video thanks 😊
Definitely the "Explorer Man's Man Boat". And it gets my vote of approval 👍💪
Would love an Explorer yacht - no need for a chase boat filled with the toys, so many more stylish yachts only have a 'Touch n Go' pad as well!
Been following this on David Seal's channel.
Maybe the owner wants a stronger hull for thicker ice? Some of the rivers in Russia get ice over 1 metre thick!
Do you think if she were to crash into a breakwater or harbour wall she would become........ Ragnarok?
I think this might be my favorite super yacht I've seen.
I also really like the industrial look. It looks like it's made for adventure rather than just relaxing.
Extremely interesting project, I really think reconditioning old vessels is the future of yachting! Thanks for your work 👍
Reconditioning is so expensive on the entire range of boating, from small dayboat to this scale, it's almost never worthwhile unless you have your own shop, experience, and are basically doing the hours for free.
I agree. I saw David Seal interview a ship maker and this question was posed to the shipbuilder. It saves a very small percent by reusing the material, almost insignificant. It saves a little time a few months out of a few years. I think the key here is they wanted this ice rating. So they got a used but specialized hull and it took as long as getting a new yacht with a standard hull.
Also of note the for sale price is very comparable and smaller compared to similar but sized yachts. Possibly because it doesn't have an extra 3M in fairing on the hull. Or because the owner wants to sell it sooner than later.
Love Ragnar, if I were able to either buy or build I would have gone the same route as this owner did. Ragnar is truly an Icon in the yachting industry. (:
For me it would depend upon how much space I felt I needed. By using an existing vessel your maximum space is constrained. So if you need something bigger you could chop up the end and extend it or just have someone build you a vessel that's big enough for your needs. I would tend to go for the latter option if I needed that much extra space.
That said Ragnar looks more than large enough for most people's needs.
An _icon_ eh? I see what you did there.
I have a suspicion that the wealthy yacht owners love the "project" to design and build a yacht often times more than the ownership of it once completed.
Your remark can refer more widely to a broader range of things in life. Pretty often, it's not about catching, it's about chasing.
Yep, happens with classic cars all the time.
just like us mortals love to design dream cars on manufacturers websites
Like playing with toy-trains as kids, making a plan and putting the rails together had more to it than running the trains. On the other hand: this unusual / unbelievable ship does offer some great "playing"-opportunities 😅!
Now that's a man's man type of yacht, a real rough and rugged go anywhere do anything vessel. I like it.
Camera work keeps getting better and better. Also really enjoy the in-depth focus on a special yacht. Well done.
I also share your feelings on my own 19 GT3, never, ever selling.
I think ragnar is one of the most amazing vessels on the water today! She is incredible!!
I believe you answered yourself on a different show. "Billionaires will always sell for the right price".
This ship is a carbon copy of Steven Spielberg's that I saw in saint Martin
@@danpinzone8226 this doesn't look like seven seas at all
Sure, but that doesn't mean they will put their new baby up for sale. If someone were to come along and offer them enough money I'm sure any yacht is for sale but you don't see them all being offered for sale.
@@nanoflower1 also alot of yachts are for sale "off the market" like high end real estate, cause you dont want your boys at the country club know that you are liquidating your assets especially luxury assets which is the first thing you do when you are having financial problems and noone wants to do business with someone having financial problems.
I agree with you about the right price thing. Business is business and getting emotionally attached to an asset is not good business. If the price is right, then it is sold.
The challenge of the refit is the journey. Once the project is finished he gets bored and wants a new project.
There is that, but after dreaming about where he COULD go he started looking into the weather and how at anytime of year you get a good chance of gale winds with waves approaching ... well, it's not yachting, anymore.
Very informative video - thank you. I had never considered heated door handles before!
Perhaps some day you could do a video where you tour such an explorer with the chief engineeer to let him point out all the technical features and some of the nitty gritty details that went into designing and specifying the myriad technical systems on such a masterpiece of a ship. That would make an extremely interesting video for the more technically inclined!
That has to be one of the coolest yachts ever built.
Literally had the same reaction to “89 Million”
It is a beast on video, can’t imagine it to the naked eye.
If he gets 89 for it I would be surprised
@@mikerotch1135 it is an interesting sale as there are other “support” vessels on the market, however this is truly unique. For now.
Love the go-anywhere vibe and simplified exterior maintenance. He could be selling for any number of reasons: new obligations that emerged during the build, a change of heart, new interests, cash flow issues...it's a long list and only he knows the answer.
I just wish I could afford to retire and go kayaking, and there’s guys like this. I hope he’s happy.
When the camera pans over that boat I can faintly hear the 007 theme wafting in the background.
I think that he came up with so many new ideas when he finished this that he can’t wait to get started on the next one.
The best super yacht I’ve ever seen. If I had 89M. This would be first choice no doubt 😊
Maybe he liked the building process more, having the vision, perfecting it first in his head and then getting there, rather than being there! It must have given him a lot of excitement and satisfaction making all the decisions and solving all the problems during those 3 years of building this vessel! Now that the boat is finished, mission accomplished! Let’s move on to the next project! I knew someone like that. My father!
Rugid looking, and functional for $89M. The only items missing are a nest of machine guns, torpedo tubes, and a battery of missiles. Gulf of Aden here I come!🤣
Super yachts carry surface to surface and surface to air plus laser capability and miniature failinks plus a few things the public doesn't know about
I love this. This is proper. I’d take this any day over the fancy stuff I see.
The builders of the Olympic and Titanic never claimed them to be unsinkable. The belief originated from a publication called “The Shipbuilder” which stated in an article that the design of the ship was “practically unsinkable “ . I totally agree with you , don’t tempt fate .
wicked wicked wicked is all i can say what a splendid vesile, and a great Vlog thanks
I might be crazy but I like the way that looks way better than the typical long bow!
I have been watching this build for a couple years and absolutely love the concept. It is definitely one of those super Yachts you get on to do things with not just hang out. If I had 89 million dollars to play with and the hundred million dollars a year to run this I would buy it in a heartbeat I love everything about this boat. I think the whole Nordic thing is pretty cool and let's not forget all of the awesome spa stuff that's on this boat including a huaman.
This is one of the coolest yachts I've ever seen.
As you where explaining you said it was an one a hull! Made me smile. A one A hole of a boat! Thanks
Icon did an amazing job on her. The attention to detail is incredible
The owner is obviously rich and smart so he wouldn't be selling the yacht at a loss - it would be at a profit despite whomever's thoughts. Ragnar is exactly the type of yacht I dream of owning.
Design of that bow makes it pretty much impervious to high seas, can't blame that guy for going with it.good video👍
Very nice to see my last ship shown in your video. The red U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker (USCGC Polar Sea WAGB-11). Btw she was the first non-nuke powered vessel to reach the north pole.
Perhaps it drilled more holes in his pockets than he initially thought, hence selling
Doubt it. These guys are multi-billionaires. Tens of millions are chump change.
@@PQV-8898 Poor people talk buddy. Simply having a net worth of billions doesn't mean its sitting at the bank. Who knows what he is liquid, hence selling.
@@fugeu7799 Who said billionaires put all their money in the bank? LOL
@@PQV-8898 No one, shit for brains; most billionaires aren't extremely liquid and don't consider millions as _chumps change_.
@@fugeu7799 Listen for a peasant like yourself, every penny counts. These guys are filthy rich, son. Tens of millions are tax write off. Yeah, chump change.
I love this yacht. Such a pleasant change from the usual gin palace/wedding cake ones. I do prefer the practical industrial look of this. Perhaps for the Owner the enjoyment was actually building it?
💥Love it! Thanks 👍👍
It's an impressive project for sure but when Damen/Amels introduced their line of explorer yachts I was in love with them.
I think.... Wow! Thanks for the tour, your insights and the video.
Love this one the best !!! So cool!
Great show. Many thanks
In my eyes, this is the perfect 👌🏻 yacht!
Love it!
I think is it a cool unique looking yacht. Thanks for showing it to us.
Love it . . . like the practicality & that the interior is not tacky, pretentious & ostentatious which to be honest, would preclude me from owning almost every 'super-yacht' no matter how many billions I had to spare . . .
Really enjoyed this one. Love the practical aspect of the redesign of this vessel. Personally, I would have built from scratch - would have been more fun. A real boys toy. Well explained as always.
I love this Yacht. I would buy it. The owner might be selling to build a larger one that could be a high class of Ice Breaker. Like others have mentioned, the thrill of the build.
One of my favorite yachts.
Love it for the reasons you mention at the end of the video
Nice to see super yacht owner thinking beyond warm beaches and sunny coasts...
Run down of another working yacht, awesome!
I love it! Absolutely love it. It's my perfect boat.
She´s such a beauty....I love this boat and if I had the money I would buy it and live on it and explore
BEAUTIFUL
My sort of thing. Love it
One n only Ragnar ♥️⛵💪❤️
As with most super yacht owners, he has realized the yacht is too small and he needs a bigger one . I have been watching this build through the "Yachts for sale" youtube channel. Very interesting ship.
6:52 it is actually a Sherp as known in the west a Russian made all terrain also floatable vehicle
It is actually a BigBo, not a Sherp. It is however 100% a ripoff of the Sherp product
@@adeyf7842 I was familiar only with a Canadian ripoff not this one
@@adeyf7842 and the ripsaw ev2 is a different thing again, so I guess its got a ripsaw ev2 and a sherp or the clone of a sherp. Ripsaw Ev2 is made by Howe and Howe
@@richardthomson4693 that's interesting, I didn't know it had a Ripsaw as well. So many toys, never a dull moment on that ship.
It does have a "ripsaw" though I believe they call the amphibious ones riptide not ripsaw.
Beautiful yacht 👍
Ragnar is strangely hypnotically beautiful
Awesome that’s for the new video!
Just love those types of go anywhere Yachts... My family and I would just go for a year or more! She would definitely be put to good use! 👍🇺🇸
A real beauty. Interesting information. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Ragnar definitely is an impressive piece of kit, I believe Icon yachts have teamed up with sunseeker to make some pretty nice vessels too
Awesome piece of kit
I do love this yacht and it's utilitarian look.
she is the business, love her
It reminds me of Arctic P. The Icebreaker tug converted by James Packer to an expedition super yacht. This video inspired me to Google it. It seems it's now owned by Gretel Packer (sister of James), won an award of some kind in 2015 for a super yacht most used by it's owner in the year (it went all over the place, as you would with a 17,000 Nautical mile range) and interestingly it's not available for charter, according to one site. It is very awesome, however. It still looks tug-ish, but is not. To my mind, it's the coolest of the super yachts.
Esysman, you should do a video on Arctic P.
Bravo!
I could live on that. Great review of an interesting yacht.
Loved this video because you gave a statement about “indestructible Vessels” in the British manner, “Never Say Never Again!” Bahahaha !
Family loved this forewarning prophecy.
Thank you for talking about the intricacies of Ice Classes.
Love it, thanks
I prefer a luxury yacht over an explorer. Going to the Arctic or Ant-Arctic is something that I would do once. Luxury cruising is something I could do year round.
It is a luxury yacht, just with improved sea keeping and a greater scope of utility.
Well, for most of us that's just a theoretical problem of choices isn't it? :) Well, at least we can say we earn our money honestly. Guys who can afford this type of overexpensive yachts hardly ever gain their wealth without stealing from others.....
Luv it.
Super nice .
I’d like to put on a loft convention on my house before I spend £89m.
After that maybe I’ll dream about it…..
love the channel…. Keep up the great work!
Great job, happy to arrange you yacht tour next time you are around
Great video. Very informative.
I Watched David Seal, as did many others, reporting on the various stages of the build, and final review of Ragnar, over several months,
The amount of both new and rework that icon and RWD undertook, to build such a luxury go anywhere vessel, is outstanding, from the stern to the bow.
Without a doubt both Icon and RWD have transformed what was once a working support vessel into the remarkable 68 meter explorer yacht "Ragnar" both from the outside, all the way thru to the inside, complete with a gentleman’s lounge with a fireplace? Truly unbelievable.
If only I was the proud owner…..
We are running a shipyard restoring historical steelboats constructed being constructed before world war II, they are just so easy to entertain. Partly even equipped by electric engines. I'm deeply in love with 'RAGNAR'
Damn what a treat to open the app up and see a video..great video
Another nice video, thank you. When I first saw Ragnar in a previous video, I didn't like it. I am a marine engineer Merchant Navy and it reminded me too much of a modern supply/anchor handling vessel with the enclosed bow. I have however, in a very short time, come to like it very much. It is an awesome vessel with excellent sea handling conditions I would assume, provided the modifications have not made her top heavy, in which case she would roll like a pig. 😲
Love it, as a boat should be. One that can be used.
Mya baby stunt 2!!!😁🤣😁😎😉😏
That was very interesting, Thank you,
Still a really cool yacht, even if out of fuel.
Interesting ship. Maybe the owner learned so much with the rebuilding process that he would do many things differently the next time around. First I thought maybe he just wanted to bring a ship like that to the market, but there appear quite a few ships like that. Just had a look at Tinkov's approach to that subject.
Three words: I like it!
She was just parked here in San Diego at Broadway Pier not too long ago. Such a cool vessel. Has a mini submarine. 6000 nautical mile range. Wow.
In my opinion, he's putting it up for sale "so soon after completing construction" b/c he got it appraised and found out he can make a bunch of 💰 above and beyond his construction cost. He's asking $89M.
It's up here in Norway now, and being held by authorities, in the port of Narvik. The man who built it is one of Putin's men and he put it up for sale so he can sell it to a company concern that doesn't have his name on it, which is what he did. It seems to still be serving Russia's interest. They consider it still owned by former KGB officer Vladimir Strzhalkovsky. It wasn't a coincidence that it showed up off the shore of Norway's largest naval port in the north and went to harbour in Narvik where NATO will be holding exercises 'Cold Response 2022'. Russia was formally invited to observe the exercise, but declined. Perhaps to observe more clandestinely. Norwegian officials aren't sure if they are going to let the ship leave Narvik port while the exercise is going on.
I watched the entire conversation of Radnar. Very interesting. I would never have done it nor would I buy it if I had the money.
I think the owner just loves the whole process. He does not really care about exploring. I'm sure he has other yachts that he uses.
I like it. It's unique in the weird, unobtainium world of super yachts.
I can’t IMAGINE!
I’ve been following its progress on Yachts for sale. It’s pretty badass
Definitely a Bond Evil villain ship👍
I would only change the exterior color at a first glance.
Would love to see the interior and technical side of the retrofit.
It is an overland vehicle for the water, love it.
That is a working man’s type of yacht finish . I think the boat is awesome and practical . Wasted time with the fairing and that take massive amounts of labor hours to do to well . In ten years you have to redo it . I also love the Axe Bow ( I think that’s what that shape is called ) . They are supposed to be the the best for heavy seas .
By far your best video ever! I love the education, the beauty of the boat, and even the speculation why the owner is selling!
He is selling probably because of money. Three possibilities:
1. If he's broke, he needs to cut debts and raise cash.
2. If his financial position has increased drastically, then maybe he wants a bigger and better boat.
3. My best guess is, the owner expected Ragnar to be in very high demand for Antarctic charters and it's just not. Not enough to pay a significant portion of the bills, at least. So, he took a gamble on a business that did not pan out, and now he's recouping his loss by selling off the boat. I would also bet the conversion was far, far more expensive than he expected, which crippled the charter biz right from the start.
Next time, go straight to Damen and get the boat built custom for less.
That looked like a SHERP nota ripsaw. They have tank treads
Two totally different animals. Slow but go and fast as all hell but don't float lol
I like it neat ship
Why is he building a new yacht; because this one's done. Sometimes the joy is in the anticipation!
Nice video.
As always. Good work. I agree with the comment that says he would rather have a super yacht as i do. Money i not an issue so one can charter. As a full time vessel, not my cupa.
Love the opportunity this vessel would afford me for travel and adventure... If I could afford it lol
