Omg thanks dude. Before watching this video, thought my PS5 fan was a dud or problem with unit itself. Cheers Xbox series X is so much quieter under any load.
I noticed that sometimes the fan noise increases only when an extra window is open in the game, or something like that. It doesn't bother me, but it's kind of strange to me a single popup window would demand that much more load

So safe to say it’s suppose to sound like my old ps4. I just got a ps5 couple weeks ago and it’s loud. Maybe I’ll change out the fan !! Thanks for the tip 👍
I mean apart from being able to buy games for a lower price I’m so glad I decided to go with digital instead of disc, my ps5 makes absolutely no noise ☺️
Seriously? My PS5 don't make a singe sound. (Haven't tried any discs tho') But playing a digital download it's completely silent. I can't even hear the fan. Luckily I have no coil whine either, knock on wood.
With my PS5 I noticed that part of that noise is from the tower vibrating while it’s in the vertical position. If i grab it and hold it still for a minute a lot of the noise disappears..
I dont think its at random which fan you get, its down to the series and when you purchase it. The newer series 11 versions for instance all have different fans and heat sinks compared to the series 10 models. You can find this number on the box, or the console itself
Are the series 11 models only for digital? Like is the weaker heat sink issue just with the Digital model? I haven’t heard anything on the standard editions.
@@bigpapabrandon no, i have a series 11 disk version. Im not 100% sure if the digital and disk models contain the same components, minus the disk drive, but my guess it that they will both be using the same cheaper conponents.

I think it is a little bit unfair that some people get a "better sounding" PS5 than others (I think the "Delta" one is the least noisy among them). All PS5 owners should be *equally treated* and *equally good* PS5!
Its not just different sounds unfortunately, the newer ones now have stuff stripped out of them to save on costs, which i think makes them run a bit hotter, although i dont think this affects it. But original ps5s have better components, eg copper components, bigger heat sink
That why it's always better to wait and buy the slim version with more space. Plus I hate the way they look and when you put the console on its side it goes in upside down. It's funny hearing people say it's not that loud and stops after awhile. It shouldn't sound like that at all. But they are defending it.
My ps5 is really quite while I’m playing a game. I just changed the casing from white to black and it looked clean inside. P.s. the black case looks nice. Super slick.
Mines is the middle fan I’m sure. It’s not overly loud but it’s a bit unusual I think that owners are treated to better or worse acoustics. My Series X runs whisper quiet in comparison, only game I’ve heard the fan really spin with that machine was when playing Cyberpunk for some reason and even then it was just a hum. Still both machines are quiet tho the Xbox S and X models were already quiet in comparison to my Boeing PS4 pro
Yeah I have a ps5 that I got exactly 1 year ago. All my games are digital but I got the last of us 2 (disc) and I wanted to try it. It was loud at the begging whenever I wanted to star the game, but then it would go to normal and it wasn’t loud anymore. However, last time I try Call of duty(disc) but it was super loud. That’s when I decided to look it up on the Sony website and they have institutions there to kinds fix it or if you have a disc stuck in the console. I did the process the same way they did it. But when I try to play again it wasn’t working and now I can’t even put the disc in the console cause it gets stuck. They say that you don’t lose warranty for doing this but my advice for anyone here is that if your facing that type of problems and you don’t have warranty do not try this cause it might happen to you.

This video adds even more confusion to the situation because it does not address the coil whine sound, a sound so loud here that it covers the fans sound. Question: My games used to run just fine in terms of sound. If I was playing a heavy game it would start letting some hot air after a while with some noise after a while, but that’s expected But as of yesterday, the instant I play a heavy game (in this case Genshin), it immediately starts letting out hot air and I think coil whine, even though it was just fine before (aka making noise/air after an hour). My smaller games like NASCAR Heat 5 have it perfectly quiet tho, so I’m not entirely sure what the problem is Edit: I think I found the problem. I believe I was just playing heavy games a bit too often. I say that because I would play it everyday for a good amount of time. But it’s been a week since I played, and when I went on Spiderman, the rattling was gone. I’ll just use my Switch if that happens again, and go back when it’s time
It's a common problem. Genshin is very badly optimized on Ps5. Basically it pushes Ps5 hardware to it's limit. You can write to Mihoyo from in-game feedback about this. At least they can easily add graphical setting, which PC version already has. So everyone can tweak personal optimal balance between graphics quality and noise.
@@serj5128 Makes sense. I mean even I thought the graphics were looking a little too crisp. It’s cool but I’d rather the settings be toned down a little so my PS5 doesn’t get pressured so much so fast
It is and it’s not even close, just the quality of the plastic used on the XSX speakers for itself, heck even the packaging was more professional on the Xbox compared to the PS5, and I have both as well.
How did Sony screw up so badly? What with the fan noise and the coil whine its as distracting as hell if you're not playing with headphones on. The Xbox Series X is almost silent.

I haven’t really paid attention to the fan noise but it sounded like something was going on in there. 😂 I can’t recall if it’s always been loud (on startup and inserting a disk) but then it’s completely silent the rest of the gameplay or if I watch Netflix or something. Put my mind at ease.

According to this video’s title, my PS5 is defective because it rarely makes an audible fan noise. I’ve had my PS5 for almost two years and I’ve probably experienced about five minutes of cumulative fan noise. However, albeit rare as well, I’ve hear the coil buzz a lot more. And only while powering on the console. My series X doesn’t have the coil noise but it’s fan is more audible. Still quiet though. I enjoyed both consoles thus far. I rarely use the X except for MLB the show but can’t stand the user interface. That’s a minor peeve.
my ps5 is digital. so it's just quiet. plus it's a launch model. I always wanted to see what a disk one would sound like...btw for anyone reading this, i'm not trying to brag or whatever. this is simply my own opinion. One more thing, i was told that if your fan is making any other sound than the ones on the video then it could be that the blades of the fan is hitting a old sticker. so you might need to remove the sticker if it annoys you. i hope this helped to anyone that is reading this.

When my PS5 is on I hear this high frequency warbling, almost like crickets chirping at night. It gets louder when I load any game at all and then basically just stays that way if its a game that uses low resources. Usually PS4 games without much system load will leave it in this chirpy state, while true PS5 games or PS5 upgraded games will but a greater load on the system, masking the noise with the fans faster and louder sound output.

Whew!! I was wonder about the sound mine was making. It sounds like I have the Nidec fan. I was worried it was starting to fail. Good thinking on making this video.
I’ve grown on Nintendo all my life, and my PS5 is my new venture into those heavy-duty consoles. I thought mine was super loud, but turns out I have the quietest cooling fan model so, I’m a little more grateful
Not much difference to the human ear in fan noise between the three fans unless you're using a sound measurement tool. I have the one that is also so say rated the best but yet it sounds just like my two nephews PS5 who have a different fan as well. Its mainly the disc drive that makes the noise and the voltage spikes the fan is whisper quiet unlike my ps4 Pro haha
Trust me, you don't want to hear what a PS3 with Webman sounds like.
Wow you should have heard some ps4's, they were almost taking off🤣
@@SSNebula This isn't true tho. Human ears are much sensitive for some sounds frequency than for others. Bassy sounds are much smoother than high pitched coil whine. And all ps5 have that problem more or less. On the other hand i can put my ear on my xbox series x and hear nothing, just the blowing wind. I really do not get how sony are not capable of doing less noisy consoles... Ps3 was louder than xbox 360, ps4 was way louder than xbox one, and now ps5 are louder than xbox series x. I really doesen't understand why sony don't take that problem seriously...
@@user-sn8zx5mv1x I have a PS3 with Webman and it's quiet, idk what u are talking about.
I’ve had my PS5 since June and thankfully no issues with the console,I love it but 2 of my 3 controllers have become unusable due to stick drift in both analog’s,it’s a disgrace in this day and age that this still happens and all the hoops we have to jump through to get new controllers off Sony is disgusting,i genuinely believe it’s a big money racket the only game’s on My PS5 I can use a PS4 controller on is RDR2 and GTA5 every other game I have are PS5 or PS5 upgraded meaning I can only use one of my 3 PS5 controllers at the moment sorry for the rant but I’m just so pissed at the moment how a billion dollar company can get away with this stuff
When you buy a product you have guarantee, what i do is change the controller before the guarantee ends so i get a brand new one for free. I have done this for a year now with my ps4 controller, just got my ps5 this week so have not had the need to change it
@Just Some Guy In The Sky The controller is under the trade name Play station. They must inspect the design and components. The toggle design is is the same as the PS4 controller.
They are accountable for their product at the end of the day.
Contact sony for a replacement then they are still in warrenty.
@Just Some Guy In The Sky same here lol I do it every year.
I have 6 controller “me & my kids” two controllers already have the drift & the other a trigger failure.
One of the controller is the red version
Thanks for this video. When i was playing Red Dead Redemption II on my PS5 my console was doing some weird noises and i almost had a heart attack lol. Thank God it's normal. I thought it broke or something.
I was playing some RDR too & heard my fan dancing, but it stop after a minute.
Why would you play a30fps game on a machine capable of 120
@@chrisc6874 because it’s one of the best games ever made . Not every game needs to be played at 120fps most games are decent on 60fps .
@@chrisc6874 honestly 30fps is stable and i really don't mind playing at 30 or 60 or whatever.
@@paulgal I didn't say every game has to be played at 120. But with all the older games being upgraded to 60 now, plus the ones new for ps5 like returnal (amazing) .... I'm just saying it's like having dial up, cable, and fiber optic and you are picking dial up.I bought rdr2 last year just before launch of ps5 and didn't know it was 30 or I wouldn't have bought it. I really wish they would remaster it cause I started playing it and it looks awesome. There is just too much great content out there in 60 or 120 . Bloodborne is an awesome hit that I want to play again too, but I won't play it now unless they do the 60 upgrade. It's just me. No harm intended. Have fun
Its not just the Fans its mostly the coil whine sound coming from the power supply, all ps5's have it more or less. Its an annoying sound so play with Headphones if u play ps5 games cause those will be louder
I was literally freaking out. I never noticed the noise before today. But I normally keep my headset on its noise cancelling there's a good chance that I wouldn't have heard it. Thank you for the video I'm not freaking out as much
I recently got a PS5 from target pickup December 23rd. (Great Christmas present I was able to get myself) & with or without a disk, it runs very silent and hardly ever feels crazy hot. Very glad mine is like that
Well yeah it's brand new. A Lil dust and it's hello Hawaii.
@@honkingantalope I always keep my stuff clean and my room also is usually on the cold side so that’s probably why I won’t have many of those issues
Omg thanks dude. Before watching this video, thought my PS5 fan was a dud or problem with unit itself. Cheers
Xbox series X is so much quieter under any load.
Thank you for this video. After dealing with silentium pc fans or other quiet brands for pc cooling fans, I was quite shocked at what I was hearing.:D
I noticed that sometimes the fan noise increases only when an extra window is open in the game, or something like that. It doesn't bother me, but it's kind of strange to me a single popup window would demand that much more load
Did you figure out what is causing this noise and if so what did you do about it?
That would be coil whine from the power supply, depending on what screen you’re on is correlated to how much voltage etc.
Especially from a next gen console
Yh
This correctly helped me identify my fan as a NIDEC before popping off the side cover to verify. Awesome video.!
I’m quite surprised that there are 3 different fan models, kind of crazy because I had my PS5 for 4w and I here a little buzzing noise but not blowing air almost but thanks for the video.
That buzzing noise is actually a thing on PS4 as well it is to do with which power supply your console comes with
@@phoenixfront yeah the ps4 has that buzzing sound to but there’s no way Sony what have a such console built to become a airplane.
Thats probably coil whine
I run mine 12 hours a day sometimes longer it’s dead quiet and stays very cool I still have to put my ear against it to hear it. I also have a fan going an oscillating fan all day in my living room and a lot of space for ventilation
So safe to say it’s suppose to sound like my old ps4. I just got a ps5 couple weeks ago and it’s loud. Maybe I’ll change out the fan !! Thanks for the tip 👍
No way, the base PS4 is loud as shit !
@@indiemagic1473 not at all, it's based on the game
It should be quiet when playing digital games. When playing a disc, it should only make noise when starting it up.
Mine is so quiet!!!👍
Playing Warzone on my old ps4 pro sounded like a jet engine
My new ps5 has a similar sound. After watching your video, I want to say thank you for my peace of mind.
Please upload this yearly bro. You’ll be the goat
I mean apart from being able to buy games for a lower price I’m so glad I decided to go with digital instead of disc, my ps5 makes absolutely no noise ☺️
Seriously? My PS5 don't make a singe sound. (Haven't tried any discs tho')
But playing a digital download it's completely silent. I can't even hear the fan. Luckily I have no coil whine either, knock on wood.
Honest to God mine doesn’t make either of those sound, but then again I barely play the damn thing. 🤷🏼♂️
Got a ps5 and am gonna watch all your videos about ps5.
Best feeling your gonna have
damn that nidec sounds like a hardrive going out
With my PS5 I noticed that part of that noise is from the tower vibrating while it’s in the vertical position. If i grab it and hold it still for a minute a lot of the noise disappears..
Exactly
Are you using the Stand? I see a lot of people online, not using the stand for some reason.
@@vaguedreams I use it with ps5 being vertical
I dont think its at random which fan you get, its down to the series and when you purchase it. The newer series 11 versions for instance all have different fans and heat sinks compared to the series 10 models. You can find this number on the box, or the console itself
The initial model released in November 2020 had two different fans depending on where you were located.
@@alecv4622 ok 😭fuuuuck. I finally snagged a ps5 through Sony’s store and I’m worried it will be the newer model. Smh. At least I got one.
@@bigpapabrandon its a shame they did this without lowering the price abit or something, but tbh, its going to work still, the heat wont be an issue. Just enjoy it man!
@@alecv4622 True.
Yup, my PS4 Pro reached vacuum cleaner levels of fan noise. It's ridiculous.
Pro tip if your PS5 IS LOUD WHEN BOOTING UP REMOVE THE DISC IF YOU AINT PLAYING WITH IT!!YOUR PS5 WILL BE MUCH MORE QUIETER
Damn, i looked up videos like this because i thought my ps5 generated more noise than it should’ve, but after hearing these noises at least now i will never worry about it.
0:31 and whether or not someone left the wire dangling in the fan. Thats exactly what that first one sounded like. Many reports of rushed ps5's have been recorded and put on youtube with the wire dangling.
My PS4 was an Airplane but my PS5 thankfully is silent 😁
Mine is practically silent without a disc. But it can get loud as hell when installing a game disc or when starting up a disc-based game.
Same as mine

@@RKZX2 hang in there bud, I'm right there with ya 👍🏻
This video adds even more confusion to the situation because it does not address the coil whine sound, a sound so loud here that it covers the fans sound. The less noisy the fan is (NMB) the more coil whine buzzing is gonna be hearable, which is counter-intuitive and will be confused by 99% of the viewers here as fan noise.
I noticed the coil whine is only present when playing native PS5 games or PS5 versions of PS4 games.
@@Overqualification you ain't wrong, this is a normal behavior for coil whine on any gpu, it's louder when there's more GPU Load, and unlike on ps5's - on desktops it's more forgiving because when there's more gpu load there's also more fan noise, which helps to block the coil whine noise to some extent
Tx that nidex would freak me out that something was wrong. Really appreciate this info you're the man about this stuff. Keep it up you've been so helpful with my ps stuff!

I don even have a ps5 why am i watching?
Me too bro, lol
Was thinking of getting one, so they went from sounding like a hyper jet during take off, to a basically a mini fridge. Not bad
Question: My games used to run just fine in terms of sound. If I was playing a heavy game it would start letting some hot air after a while with some noise after a while, but that’s expected
But as of yesterday, the instant I play a heavy game (in this case Genshin), it immediately starts letting out hot air and I think coil whine, even though it was just fine before (aka making noise/air after an hour). My smaller games like NASCAR Heat 5 have it perfectly quiet tho, so I’m not entirely sure what the problem is
Edit: I think I found the problem. I believe I was just playing heavy games a bit too often. I say that because I would play it everyday for a good amount of time. But it’s been a week since I played, and when I went on Spiderman, the rattling was gone. I’ll just use my Switch if that happens again, and go back when it’s time
take off the sidepanels and see if its just dusty
It's a common problem. Genshin is very badly optimized on Ps5. Basically it pushes Ps5 hardware to it's limit. You can write to Mihoyo from in-game feedback about this. At least they can easily add graphical setting, which PC version already has. So everyone can tweak personal optimal balance between graphics quality and noise.
@@jnes624 could be the reason, there has been plenty of dust collecting over the middle part
@@serj5128 Makes sense. I mean even I thought the graphics were looking a little too crisp. It’s cool but I’d rather the settings be toned down a little so my PS5 doesn’t get pressured so much so fast
Both the PS5 and XSX are great machines but I believe the Xbox series x is the better engineered console.
It is and it’s not even close, just the quality of the plastic used on the XSX speakers for itself, heck even the packaging was more professional on the Xbox compared to the PS5, and I have both as well.
These noises are enhanced so you can hear better but in person you really need to put your ear about an inch away from the ps5 to hear anything
How did Sony screw up so badly? What with the fan noise and the coil whine its as distracting as hell if you're not playing with headphones on. The Xbox Series X is almost silent.
It’s sounds like a fridge
For some reason Sony doesn’t use the same fans and power supply’s… coil whin big issues but ultimately not defective
Interesting never knew that.
I always thought it was quiet since it was a new console
I have the coil wine from my launch unit. When playing Destiny 2 different menus will make the console whine and others will not.
John Glasscock, I saw your comment on one of juice wrld’s video. My respect for you have increased 💪🏽🐐💫
Thnx! I was worried something might be wrong. Good to know its normal!
I don't have a PS5, but I found my childhood GBA SP recently, and it's been making weird noises too. Sometimes it screams, sometimes it chants in the tongue of the old ones, and sometimes it says "YOU WILL BE NEXT" and starts laughing. Any advice is appreciated.
I don't have a ps5 but ur video's are amazing
My fan has never even sounded remotely close to that loud lol but i do hear coil wine when i take an earphone off while playing sometimes
I gotta say I love my PS5. It's just beautiful. The PlayStation games are awesome and I am happy 😌
Finally someone big making a video about this, I hate when people shove their phone right next to the console and claim defective lol
??? Damn bro...I didn't know that. My fan isn't as loud as ANY of the ones you tested.
This video helped me mentally cz every time I look through the ps5 fan I see some type of circuit on top of it I thought mine was broken till I saw the ones in the video had the same type of circuit on top the circle thingy
Thank you for the video, I just bought a ps5 slim and thought it was broken but apparently it was the sound from the cooler😅
Thank goodness. I haven’t really paid attention to the fan noise but it sounded like something was going on in there. 😂 I can’t recall if it’s always been loud (on startup and inserting a disk) but then it’s completely silent the rest of the gameplay or if I watch Netflix or something. Put my mind at ease.
My series x is silent I thought the ps5 was mostly the same till this video.
I had all models...nmb and delta are really quite....nidec is loud compered to the two. But most newer ps5 comes with nidec. Its not loud like ps4 pro, but its louder then nmb and delta. Its a shame its a lottery system.
Very usefull video, thanks a lot. I'm not worried anymore about my brand new console which sounds exactly like that :D.
Ps5 sounds like a old refrigerator when playing games
I was thinking exactly about that... I recently acquired a slim and the sound it makes is remarkable, very different from my series x which is completely silent even when running games.
@@CyberUranusmy ps5 still makes this sound, it’s unacceptable especially now that the pro model is coming out with such a high price and I doubt they fix the problem
@@EarflapKing Seriously bro? Oh shit... I read some people saying that this go away over time, but from your experience it seems like the problem continues regardless of how much time passes.
I tried to ask some people who already got the Pro if it has this sound too, but no one knows how to answer, but considering the architecture of the console I think it's very likely that it does, or that it's the same old Russian roulette that some people have and others don't ( because Sony uses 4 different types of coolers, all to reduce costs... regrettable).
Mine doesn't even make a noise apart from one time it sounded like it was trying to read a disc even though there was no disc in it. Why dies the ps5 in your video make those noises with all 3 different types of fans?
I must say, I have NEVER heard a fan on my Series X. Sometimes I'm worried it doesn't work and I need to check airflow.

I have an issue and need some help. I turned my ps5 on for the first time of the day 4 days ago, and since then I have been getting errors trying to listen to music saying it can’t load with a “⚠️“.
Same thing when I try to go to game base, join games, parties, and my friends have no pfp. I can restart my ps5 and it kinda helps but not really, I have to have my friends invite me when I want to play with them bc I can’t join off their invites. My ps5 runs fine and has no performance issues, just this weird thing that started happening a few days ago. Help?
I dont have a PS5, but this John Crystaldick and his advices are cool
According to this video’s title, my PS5 is defective because it rarely makes an audible fan noise. I’ve had my PS5 for almost two years and I’ve probably experienced about five minutes of cumulative fan noise.
However, albeit rare as well, I’ve hear the coil buzz a lot more. And only while powering on the console.
My series X doesn’t have the coil noise but it’s fan is more audible. Still quiet though. I enjoyed both consoles thus far. I rarely use the X except for MLB the show but can’t stand the user interface. That’s a minor peeve.
My ps5 does when i turn on like playing chill musik and when im aying games too I hope you will answer
my ps5 is digital. so it's just quiet. plus it's a launch model.
I have a ps5 slim digital, it makes a noise but only when i open a game. Is that normal...?
I’ve got NMB that’s clear, thanks for the video
Meanwhile the series X is whispy quite even reading a disk

Thanks for the info, Your explanation was very clear to me👍🏻
I just got a ps5 (spiderman edition) and got scared when i heard it on the boot up, glad to know it's normal.
I love this channel so much
I think mine is closest to delta. it sounds like there's something whirring in there like its touching paper ; only when I turn it on. but holy shit its very loud and feels like something is stuck but then its quiet as fuck. so I was worried. still worried but appreciate this video
Thank you for the peace of mind!
I’ll keep this in mind when I’m finally able to get one at normal retail price
Question in one of your videos you said if you use a zen you can trick the ps5 into thinking any controller is a ps5 controller. Can the strike pack trick the ps5 into thinking the DualShock ps4 controller is a ps5 controller as well
I got the first model. With the bigger heat sink and silent fan. Excellent
