When a line is taken out of service all the grade crossings with automatic protection are shut down commercial power is shut off so the railroad doesn't have to send a signal maintainer out to shut off/raise the gates which is an unnecessary expense when the line is embargoed. Short lines generally have only a few employees and at this point in the reopening of this line they simply hadn't gotten around to turning all the grade crossings back in service. As I've seen by newer videos of this mill they fixed the track to avoid wide gauge and reactivated the grade crossings. All in a day's work when reopening a embargoed rail line. They are doing it right by stopping and flagging each crossing and liberally using the horn as after two years of no trains they have to let people know the trains are back! Congratulations to the Cincinnati East Terminal Railroad at getting another new/old customer back.
Thanks for the info....... always appreciate when someone's got the inside scoop on things. ......that horn will surely wake up the neighborhood lol ....... lol
We have a line in southwestern Ontario that was dormant for a few years and had the power to some of the crossings off and when the line started up again under a new name, they were turned back on. The one crossing I saw, they removed the gates, but once running again, they didn't reinstall them.
I like the five gallon buckets on the stacks of the switcher. At least we know someone cares about rather than saying that's not my job like so many people do now days.
thanks Brian, the same from us.i was this noon to here, koffie and cookies, lol.she told me she loves you and yor familie,me to.yor hart is in a good place.thank you.super.and how was yor first xmas day/
They probably had to slap a few gauge bars on there until they could get a few new ties under the grain spur. It's not a difficult fix, but it has to be done now and then.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This rail line has a big customer in the works and there is supposed to be an announcement in a month or so about it. I cant wait to find out what is about to happen. word is that something big is about to happen at MP41 area Mt Orab
Good video made with scenes you never posted before. I have a lot of Throwback material in my computers, too. I could post videos for almost six months using just the old material (usually not more than a year old). Thakns for these views of trains and nice town landscapes, too. Merry Christmas!
I would think it would not be legal to operate on the tracks with all the signals down. Its dangerous. Hell people drive through them when they ARE working. Nice vid. :P
Is that the old NREX 162 that was used at the Winchester elevator years ago? I shot it when it was still faded sky blue, but I thought it was shipped out (back to NRE maybe?). Where was the switcher parked in the interim?
All I know is it was built by GMD somewhere in the early 50s. National Railway Equipment from Illinois leased it to the grain elevator for years until they finally bought it. I have pictures of it in a different color from a few years back. I made videos of Norfolk southern removing it also that I might put together into one video. Someone stole the horn off of it.
Why did the CCET get rid of the ex-Alaska GP49 locomotives anyways? I know there weren't many built and they aren't super powerhouses but they are still quite reliable.
They don't in the US either. From what I saw in other comments, they most likely honked so that people in the towns could get back into the groove of trains coming through.
For a line that's been out of service a while they're moving right along. The tracks are still in good shape. At 5:03 you can see how shiny the rails became once the locomotives went under the bridge. Do the grade crossing gates work now?
They have them working up to Seaman, Ohio at mp 62. This summer they might get the trains running to Plum Run just past Peebles up to mp 78.445. They want to start hauling gravel out of the quarry
@@JawTooth I'll keep my fingers crossed more of it comes back. We were in danger of losing the former Lackawanna in PA between Slateford nad Scranton for many years after Contrial but Delaware Lackawanna breathed new life into it but it did get single tracked with no signalling. There was a beautiful Union Switch & Signal system in place, but that's gone. Unfortunately we lost the NJ cut-off. Now a portion of that is supposed to come back but it's taking a long time.
Wonder what rules this RR uses. Many rules do not require whistling for a road crossing if it is protected by a flagger. Most rules require crossings with out of service protection to be flagged by a flagger on the ground. CSX rules and others do not permit boarding moving equipment.
Question: Isn't this the same line you filmed on where the train had to pull out a mess of tank cars to get at one lone car??? If so, I thought the crossing protection worked back then. What happened to the crossing protection? (assuming again this is the same line as previously mentioned)
I think they finally have them all working. Now that the trains are running they put some work into them. I think one of them has the gate going up and down when a train goes through . Merry Christmas Erik!
Well done. It's nice to see a line put back in service rather than being abandoned for good and ripped out.

That's good news because most railroads are down sizing
I worked on a railroad upper management seems to be clueless to customers needs we had to tell customers we couldn't switch them more than one time

Gotta love short line railroads. So much character, so different. Class 1s are fine, but these are so much more interesting.
My Grand Mother’s house had a railway track in her backyard! Separated by a waist high fence! Exciting plus!
It makes me tear up to see an abandoned line come back to life.
That Fouled Nathan P5 Horn sounds so beautiful
Nice video, great to see the old branches being revived and utilized; and love seeing the SW's working the industrial and agricultural facilities.
One of those diesel units was from the Alaska RR.
I like the five gallon buckets on the stacks of the switcher. At least we know someone cares about rather than saying that's not my job like so many people do now days.
Interesting train story and video.
• Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Good to hear it's back in service. Nicely captured!
I LOVE THE BIG TRAIN PULLING THE LITTLE SWITCHER TRAIN IN THE BACK OF IT 🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃 I LIKE THE VIDEO ROCK JAW TOOTH...
Funny to see them cross so many roads and the signals don't work. Nice videoing on those rusty rails !! 👍
Thanks 👍

Nice picture from underneath of the train.
Great !! Your pasion is unbeliveble !!
Nice action, live on the Peavine!!!
I'm a little late watching this video. Neat to see what think was a "Mars Light" on the front of the loco.
love the goofball L window with the snow shield :) and the gyralite!
Very interesting video my friend, thumbs up and many greetings from Jutta

Thanks for the throwback footage and history behind the line!
Excellent video, love the look of that old, rusted paint scheme!
Awesome video jaw tooth it is good to see trains come through there again and I love the horn
Glad you enjoyed it
@@JawTooth I sure did I'm hoping to meet you sometime I am hoping to go chase some Central Cincinnati East terminal Railroad trains sometime
Merry Christmas! Thanks for posting. It always nice to see a rail line come back to life.

Restore all abandoned rail lines! Each car on a freight train his one less truck on our highways!!
You need to get an “agent” “ Mr. Tooth! Your getting plenty of exposure - and seem comfortable in front of the camera!
Wow. What a crazy chase!
Very nice Video....... a true railfan!! You are lol
thanks for sharing
I love that shot at the Elk Run Trestle at 8:46

Wonderful video, enjoyed, have a wonderful Christmas, all the best, john
he sure knows how to do a shave and a haircut with a train horn :)
Nice throw back. Mind will be tomorrow sometime. In the mean while, Merry Christmas to you and everyone else
Nice vid. Good to see a line not abandoned. That blue and yellow unit looks like an ex Alaska railroad unit. A geep 60 perhaps???
the horn at the end
It's funny how big those switcher engines looked through a childs eyes lol
Oh they are big alright
Don't think people realize how big they are until they get close to one
Our alco s4 switcher weighed 230000 lbs
Nice to see one crossing signal working @ 10:00
This is one of my favorites
Glad they reopened the line.
Excellent video and catch
Good job, Jaw Tooth. Love these.
I hope I marked like I ment too
thanks Dave

Great video Brian. Thumbs up and happy holidays to you my friend. :-)
Thomas
at the first 2 crossings, it looks like the same tan 4 door car slams on their brakes when they see the train coming.
Seen another railroads utility pole with the climbing pegs a thing of the past seen more. They have trucks with booms to reach up there now..
Any update videos with signal crossings working properly? 🚂
I saw CITIRAIL in Verona KY
Excellent video!
I love the sound of the bell (would you call it a bell) but a cool train :) thumbs up x

What is the history of the SW9. When I was a kid the C&O ran behind our house and they used two SW9s back to back. I recall they used 5236 and 5238.

This is a prime example of me liking our Canadian rules in a case like this. You don't have to blow the horn in Canada if a crossing is being flagged.
They don't in the US either. From what I saw in other comments, they most likely honked so that people in the towns could get back into the groove of trains coming through.
@@kyleb06 the US rule book I'm familiar with absolutely says you have to blow the horn while flagging a crossing.

@@JawTooth Great news. Thanks for your replies and videos.
hello brian, i said i saw CitiRail Leading a CSX intermodal in verona ky
This is an old video, but I really enjoyed it. I hope that line is sill running.
There are about 42 miles that are out of service. They want to get 18 more back into service

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also!!
Haha Mountain Dew!! These were Awesome Jaw Tooth! Have a wonderful Christmas tomorrow!! Fun Intro Great Outro!! :) :)
Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas Jaw Tooth.
almost looks like an old Cleveland Electric Gp-38.
Love the gyro light on the locomotive. =^.^=
what will the switcher be used for? and did they repair the rail and make the delivery
awesome video. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays.
Dang, finally at the 10:00 mark, some signals that work
Nice one
Thanks for sharing this information :)

Merry Christmas, my man! This is AK Crazy Russian with DCCTRAIN from my new channel videos will be in English. Thanks for the video.
Awesome and Merry Christmas to you also!!
Are the crossing signals turned off or do they need major work
the blue and gold engine is a old Alaska railroad gp-38 engine :)
Love seeing her sisters hauling coal up here in Fairbanks!
Why didn't the crossing signal work?
40belowful what about ATSF
Trace the loco number? CSX has several paint schemes
You can see the 'Alaska" painted over on the side of engine very clearly:)
you can see the "Alaska" painted over on side of engine:) besides Santa fe was blue/gold war bonnet not angled
Awesome Video Jaw Tooth!
So Im guessing they will turn the crossing signals back soon?
Hope we can railfan sometime together!
Nice SW1500
The railroad officials need to get the first two signals fixed-neither one are working. Better make it three & counting.
weren't a lot of the crossings disconnected???
Excellent video =)
Nice video!
Turn those lights n gates back on!
I think they forgot to take the buckets off of the switcher...
nice P3 on that unit
mount and do nice ;-) getter dunn.
Did they disconnect all the crossing gates?
The engineer sure likes sitting on the horn.
Canadian rules are good in this case. Horn doesn't have to be blown when a crossing is being flagged.
8:20 to 8:35 what the hell- they got a flat wheel? bam...bam...bam...bam.........
looks like you got a few old necr trains down there necr is in
western massachueets
I didn't notice that. What part of the video are you referring to?
nice-I watched all and i put a like on this too
that loco looks like a ex-Alaska RR
It is! They have 3 of these ex-Alaska RR GP49s. They are in my videos.
What happened to the crossing? They didn't light up or gates went down
OMG! is he using the horn cord to hold himself up in the cab? MY EARS! also when are they gonna fix that flat?
Lol. They recently got a couple SD45 units from Montana Rail. They are still in blue and white.
I almost forgot! Here is the link to the Cincinnati East Terminal Railway Facebook page. facebook.com/groups/289796511372763/

AWESOME:)THUMBS UP! Have a MERRY X'MAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR. :-) love Hanna and Mia
So why are all the crossing warnings INOP?
Beautiful video :-)
Merry Christmas and happy new year :-)
