I'm finishing in an interior in Wells Beach, Maine. Temps fluctuate from inside to outside 35*.
The last painter used cheap caulk on all the windows a few weeks ago. The house is East to West full sun all day and they keep the AC on like 65*. ALL of his caulk cracked throughout the entire house. So I've spent the last three days doing touch ups and running Tower & Stretch all around the whole house. It's all I use...Thanks to You!!!
For whatever reason I haven’t had good success with Tower products in California but Big Stretch is my go to! That stuff is incredible. In my opinion Sashco products are a must if you’re in the trades.
Love your videos Chris
Thanks Robert
I have used Big Stretch for years. I've used clear, white, grey and black. I don't know of any other color. It's an excellent all purpose caulk.
Good to hear
How would you compare big stretch against tower tech 2 on exterior vinyl and windows? I am DIYer going to try re-caulk the outside of 20 year old white vinyl house where old caulk seems to be broken down. I have watched many of your videos thanks for the help so far.
I love Big Stretch but I like to use a caulking color that is closest to the cover coat. I've seen dark grey siding gaps show the white caulking when it expands. Using a grey colored caulk would hide that better.
Good tip
You recommend towetech 2 or big stretch if picked one ? For inside and outside.
I love Tower Tech it's a great caulk I have not had any problems with it
Thanks Chris! I use DAP Dynaflex 230 for most things but have always had issues with flat paint so I’ll be ordering a case of the accelerator from you!
Dap products are not very good in my testing
Dap sucks. It’s the coughlins of camping gear. Crap
What paint do you use to paint caulking that the paint won’t crack when caulking stretches?
Ever tried the DAP white lightning 3006 advanced formula? Comes out super smooth. I’ve had great results
White lightning is our go to caulk, but it is not Dap! Dap is garbage. Gonna try big stretch sounds good.
Used it for years but got tired of the pops
You reccomend big stretch or the tower tech regular caulking for windows doors trim etc.. ?
Tower would be first cause it does not have pops
Hey chris, hope u doing well! I ran into this issue with tower tech2 elastomeric white caulking. i did this newly build house, i did the caulking and after more than 24 hours i primed the window and door trims. i dont know how and why it happened but there are blisters all over the caulking. First i thought maybe its cuz the primer was in flat sheen and but i tried doing one window trim directly with the semi-gloss sheen. Same thing happened both times. Never had this issue before. Been using tower sealants for quite some time now but this is the first time. If you have any idea about what happened or whats the solution or suggestion that'll prevent this from happening again?
Weird, outgassing for some reason.
@@Idahopainter even the tower sealant guys had no clue about it.
Seems like some really good caulk don't think we have that here in Nashville I have not seen it
Someone should have it there
Does Big stretch yellow when using it on an interior application like Dap does ?
Dap sucks
How does Accelerator perform under Centurion 1108 and 400?
Centurion 400 is not a good product.
I have not tried it under 1108. Works perfect for the other paints i use.
@@Idahopainter Do you still recommend their 2k products? 1107 and 2800?
Forgot to mention in my last comment here in California Hardie calls for OSI Quad Max sealants because they’re color matched to Hardie’s Color Plus line of siding colors but Big Stretch is way better and easier to work with than OSI quad max.
As a professional caulker I can say they are both garbage. No matter what hardie says. But I understand you are bound by the .specifiers. As a professional caulker we walk away from any job that even mentions either if these products.
@@genecarden780 What do you use?
@@mondavou9408 we don’t have any one specific product. It totally depends on the project requirements.
Either silicone( if it doesn’t need to be painted) by GE or Dow, if it does need to be painted Polyurethane by Sika, Masterseal, or Tremco ( among others) or sometimes hybrids from Sika, and Masterseal. ( hybrids have only recently become widely used so I can not speak intelligently on them) But I have used them. Typically if it has to be painted we use polyurethane.
2 that are easily obtained by consumers are Masterseal NP1 and Sika either sikaflex 1a or 15 LM to a lesser degree vulkem. Vulkem 116 is textured and better suited to stucco finishes
Much lower quality latex is used for ONLY one reason
They are easy to install but sooooooo inferior that the benefits of more demanding sealants far outweigh acrylic crap
@genecarden780 what are some good caulkings to use?
@@wildmanofborneo it really depends on what you are caulking. The short but incomplete answer is, if it needs to be painted polyurethane ( or maybe hybrids. I’m still a little skeptical n their durability, but that is just opinion they may be great)from an industrial manufacturer like Sika ( 1a or LM 15) master seal (NP1) Tremco ( Dymonic, Vulkem) To name a few. If it doesn’t need to be painted then silicone from an industrial manufacturer like GE ( silpruf)or Dow. 790, 795)This is very over simplified. The problem with these is, prices can vary widely from reasonable $9-$11 to ridiculous $20-$25 or more. ( total price gouging by retailers for a premium product) But no sealant is any good unless it is installed correctly.
I have been using DAP Alex..no complaints...........
Interesting
Need more lighting. black background is kinda hard for this type of video but great information
Towel sponge?
Tile
@@Idahopainter gotcha
Why not use a battery powered caulk gun for better application and productivity, have you done a video trial yet?
You could
I just realized, you are dressed like Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory ( T-shirt over long sleeve shirt). lol
I have seen you promote other caulking products on the market in your videos which actually suck. Big Stretch is by far the best caulking on the market today. I recently withdrew an estimate over something as simple as a tube of caulking. Homeowners, should start calling out paint manufacturers and caulking manufacturers on their said warranty posted on the face of a bucket of paint or a tube of caulking.
Thanks for this video. Suggestion: Turn on a few more lights, the set is too dark. And show a closeup of the products.
Noted!
This typical painter bs. I am a professional caulker. Residential caulking lasts an average of 7 years. Commercial caulking lasts an average of 20 years. The simple fact is most( not all) painters know absolutely nothing about exterior caulking/sealants. Acrylic latex ( big stretch can all it whatever they want but it is water based) should never be used in a wet location. Period. It is a fact they are one of the lowest quality sealants on the market.Acrylic latex is so low quality that only a very few even market it to the caulking/ water proofing industry. They are great products for interior paint prep but almost nothing else.
What's your thoughts on DAP Dynaflex Ultra Exterior caulking for exterior door and window trim?
@@JtotheRizzo it is latex and I would never use it on exteriors
Dap is an inferior product RPM is the parent company. Tremco is their industrial ( premium) sealant company. DAP is there consumer( lower quality) company
@@genecarden780 Thanks for the reply. So even if it says it's an Exterior sealant for Windows, Doors, Siding and Trim, you wouldn't use it?? What would you use?
@@JtotheRizzo this is a very complex question
But the simple answer is if it doesn’t need to be painted silicone from GE or DOW
If it does need to be painted polyurethane by Sika, Masterseal or Tremco
Feel free to message about specifics
@@JtotheRizzo if it says latex or acrylic latex it should never be used on exteriors no matter what it claims
