    The thing that shot Battlebit in the foot IMO was that it is trying to please everyone instead of focusing on what makes Battlebit great and unique. Battlebit needs no other mode but 128v128 Dom/Conq, on official servers. That's it. The second you start introducing more than that, you're introducing choice overload and splitting the playerbase up. The devs do not have the manpower to maintain anything but the core aspect of Battlebit, which causes everyone to become unhappy when they are spread too thin.

      I don't think them trying to please everyone is even remotely the issue. The problem is that the dev team is small and the power is wielded poorly by one guy who doesn't have the right answer 100% of the time. I knew the game was in for it when I found out it was a -PROMISE- OATH that they'd never add shotguns.

      Agree. Once the community was split into different servers with rules for each. It ruined the game, you could never play capture the flag or invasion after that.

      I agree that to an extent, the game needed to focus on what made it great. I think the choice of gamemodes wasn't the cause though, and it was more likely the launch of Custom Servers that put the game on its death spiral. The range of modes and sizing at an official level was fine, but yeah, the thinning of the playerbase across custom servers really killed it.

      Not to mention the sheer amount of hate that gets spread around in /yell and everyone thinking "their faction" is superior and does no wrong. I recently came back to PS2 and theres so much more than the last time i played. People are ignorant enough to talk about cheats saying the 2 factions they dont play PAY cheaters and there faction has never had any cheaters. The amount of other bs that goes on screams lonely old man with no other place to speak their mind. So much hate and nobody gets muted or suspended despite there being someone "monitoring the game 24/7" :/ really kills my will to play even if i can mute them, more pop up. Joining a squad or platoon? Its not as bad but theres still so many who talk as if 1 faction is worse.
      Oh god not to mention people complaining about Zergs....Its a large scale warfare game...thats the whole reason of playing, to play with large groups of people. The sheer amount of stupidity is just sad.

    The "Player count doesn't matter" mentality is unironically the best way to enjoy PvP games. There are so many great FPS games out there that have just enough players to support a full server at peak hours, and I've had more fun playing those old or forgotten games than I've ever had in any popular shooter. You should all try not chasing trends for once and just play a fun ass game.

    • @CAMIKAZE78
      @CAMIKAZE78  Месяц назад

      I get what you are saying, 100%. IF the game has the means to run at a baseline, then that's great too. But I would still argue that player count at that point is still incredibly important to ensuring the experience is able to be enjoyed, the "bar" to climb over is just lower in that instance.
      Without a larger player count, I think the biggest risk you run into is regions not having the players to support the game - leading to higher ping counts which obviously frustrates the experience a little too.

      The game war of rights is the perfect example of this. Absolutely immersive and beautifully crafted American civil war combat. On a good night one of the servers will be full, 350 players, and that’s enough to run the gamut of what the game offers; quite moments in a corn field chatting with the lads, to entire companies of players moving across a field under fire like something out of a movie. A real “bullet screams from no where” chaotic experience….and it flys completely under the radar. Only need a few hundred(or even dozen depending on the game) like minded folks to have a good time.

    Let's be real, the gaming community isn't the same as 15 years ago.
    Yesterday I replayed DKC. Game hasn't been updated in over 30 years, no cosmetics or bs to grind for, just an absolute staple of classic platforming games, nothing else, and I was asking for nothing more. Same thing goes when I go back to any game I've enjoyed in the past - I just enjoy the game.
    People now can't process a video game that doesn't have a ranked system, a battle pass, endless grind and weekly updates. Quite sad if you want my opinion, we used to enjoy simple fun !

    • @boguslav9502
      @boguslav9502 Месяц назад

      The difference is some games are just published finished. Battle it has an issue where it partially is a ranked system, and all of the garbage you mention, it went too much into arcade too little into realism. Lots of cheaters and a meta emerged. Basically had they done some balancing, made actual roles better defined, and some more maps and fidelity.
      Really they didn't need to do much. Maybe add some more features. But really it's just unfinished.

      @MusiicyPowaa Месяц назад +2

      @boguslav9502 you're right to mention the meta. Meta is the top thing that annoys me with modern gaming ... people won't even try to figure out things by themselves in SINGLE PLAYER.
      It's now always about performance/competition. Having fun has become a bonus and is mostly experienced because of dopamine rushes; which again happen because you outperform your opponent/the game, not necessarily because the gameplay loop itself is well crafted.
      For instance, a friend of mine made me try Elden Ring. He insisted that I don't look at guides, and while I didn't have the courage to go on, I haven't had such a candid game experience since Skyrim; a game that I also never went far in, because enjoying the atmosphere and walking in cities was enough to satisfy me ... I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of people would not be able to understand that you can enjoy a game without even playing it the intended way.
      I used to play Hide and Seek with my siblings on racing games such as Lego Racer or MK Double Dash.
      Can't count the amount of hours I've spent on CoD4 with my clan, doing all kinds of shenanigans, running around people and not shooting, even sometimes spending HOURS just figuring ways to make the characters look really stupid by performing certain actions.
      Anyways: fuck meta. But that's just my opinion

  • @ItsBoyRed
    @ItsBoyRed Месяц назад

    BattleBit failed because of multiple BIG reasons.
    #1 Unclear / no communication, all news from devs went on in a Discord server, this is very unprofessional, not everyone uses discord.
    #2 Poor work on implementing anti-cheat, they had no clue what they were doing, and then the rumors of adding Saudi kernel-level anticheat started spreading, again the devs only communicated on discord so nobody knew anything.
    #3 With the new proposed anticheat, all Linux / deck players would be locked out from playing the game they bought, unless they started hosting their own dedicated servers
    Again, the devs were very unclear on this for wayyyy too long
    #4 The devs were very bad at balancing weapons and making sure each category had a purpose, SMG's were the number one choice for anyone for way too long.
    Besides, they refuse to add shotguns, simply because one of the devs aren't a fan of getting killed by them, but are fine with super OP smgs.
    All these issues coupled with a lack of communication and updates sparked a ton of fearmongering back when it launched.
    I refunded the game because the devs were very back and fourth on if or what the new anti-cheat meant, i only have Linux machines so not being able to play is an obvious dealbreaker.
    In the end, the devs had made a game with tons of potential but fumbled hard.

  • @VertyPoo
    @VertyPoo Месяц назад

    Outside of needing a consistent playerbase, there's a ton more that also goes into the longevity of a game that gets effected by outside sources, many of which surround the consumer. If an online game has no players or too little, the game gets less support, less notice, and less funding which results in less updates, less content, less bug fixes, less care and so forth which pushes the still concurrent playerbase out, eventually being shutdown due to a lack of demand to supply like we all know. However, that same playerbase is also extremely damning as it currently seems we all have ADHD and require a game to have consistent updates each month at most or each week at least for the course of its ENTIRE lifetime that it's online (which is impossible and doesnt need to happen, but a large majority of us seem to push for it). There's a lot of arguments surrounding it, such as FPS games arent designed for longevity similar to an MMORPG is, but rather designed to last a few years so after a year the game is already in decline so might as well leave it, which is why we end up getting games like CoD that ultimately give us the same mess each year with a singular new addition that only stays in that specifc CoD released, like aftermarkets in MW3. Its new content for a new game that definitely couldve been added to an already existing game so everyone scrambles to go to it bc its new, pulling the prior playerbase with it and making CoD billions. What's strange is it isnt just CoD this occurs with, but a multitude of NEWER games. Older games dont seem effected the same bc the playerbase that stays this long arent going anywhere and many devs made it where the players can create servers and moderate them, such as Battlefield games. Even if theyre outdated in many aspects and dont receive updates, the games still have a large enough playerbase or enough content to last a long time. Its efffectively become that many larger publishers have dev teams make games thatll only last a short period of time bc we as a consumer are strangely buying more and more games, but only playing em for a shorter period of time, so when a new one comes out we all flock to it for half a year (on average) then leave to the next. Publishers are noticing that and so to them they can effectively sell less for more bc we're gonna buy it regardless bc we're constantly chasing some dopamine high from experiencing something new. Yet, it's also causing obvious backlash for many AAA teams and as a result many players go to Indie developers instead as an Indie game gets more attention trying to supply demand of its players and meet quota and make our purchase worth it more often than not or going to a company that knows what theyre actually doing. It's also a money situation with higher ups wanting more and more so actual funding to a dev team to make good and extended content isnt happening as much nowadays even though its easier and quicker to make a game today than it was 10 years ago due to innovation, it still requires heavy funding.
    The key points to realize nowdays is that;
    Players demand more and more updates to a game in an impossible time frame and when it isnt met they leave and them leaving pulls others. It can be seen in MMORPGs more clearly with this weird "dead game" phenomenon (effectively someone saying dead game kills a game quicker).
    Publishers see that players are willing to pay more for less in order to experience something new so they have dev teams make less content for a lower shelf life so they can go to the next product to sell.
    Higher ups are pulling in more money than whats going back into the company so dev teams also dont have adequate funds even though theyre making more now than ever despite innovations in game creation.
    The playerbase is vastly more powerful than a company, but no one wants to push for a change or admit a lot of flaws we see and perpetrate.

    I miss the early community of battlebit , hearing For rock and stone! Fortunate son from someone's mic, some good death mic talk and I do mean good without insulting one another. Legitimately asked a enemy player did he really try drop shooting me and a few seconds of silence went by and he said ye..... I remember being on a forest map near a trashy short waterway and got chased by 2 players so I ran to the waterway and hid in a bush they ran past me and I gunned them down. They congratulated me on the sneaky kills by laughing and calling me a sneaky bustard as I knew they would chase me. Now something like that isn't really possible. The community got toxic , custom servers banning certain weapons or tactics, coms being super toxic and competitive in a roblox shooter. Hacking out of control too. It had potential but to me the fun community leaving and the sweatiest taking over was a big let down.

      hes not being a negative nancy, hes saying these large games PS2 is particular live and die by the player count. AU had our server shut down due to inactivity because trust me on this. 1 vanu infultrator running from point to point in a biolab vs 1 NC infultrator capping the points the vanu just capped on repeat is REALLY boring. so when the player count was low i wouldnt bother to jump on. i got transfered to connery which worked but i now had to deal with a noticeable lag.
      AU already has a low(ish) population for these types of games so we REALLY feel it when a game falls off as it only takes half the player count disappearing for the rest to completely jump ship and not look back. (seriously theres a bunch of games i cant play unless i want to have 300+ ping cause of this that id love to play)
      when your games content is "we have a crap tonne of players" when the player count drops it keeps dropping as other lose the content that made it all fun

Even if what he says was true, there's something called tact. We're trying to hang on to the pop we got and not discourage new players. Battlebit is good too, but Camikaze, yeah fuck em. I play on Emerald, I know some of the other servers have no activity, it's just not true for everyone.

      What public service does he offer by telling people not to play PS2 What does he have to gain? Ten years of content that when ppl land on will probably end up at vids of him saying not to play it, possibly watching and following what he's doing now.

    Ok first off, what do big franchises such as battlefield and call of duty have... Something we all hate, yearly releases. See marketing is such a manipulative yet effective strategy to keep players coming back. With consistent sequals, comes marketing hype (if done correctly), in turn, player engagement from fomo and continuous growth.
    Now what about games such as counter strike? Well I would actually put that in a different genre. The main draw for games like counter strike is its high skill competitive aspect and arguably their skin market.

      yeah take all the battlefield games as an example, i could boot almost any one of them up and find like 3 us servers at least but all the aus servers will be empty if they even still exist at all. we over in aus have less of a player count in general and for the longest time console was king here, almost noone went for PC. this impacted at least PC playercounts even more in aus, take planet side for example, in its hayday then that would be full even in aus but then we had just the playercount to keep it full but generally not overflow it. that means you lose half the player count and the numbers went from thousands to only 100 and then youd jump off cause all the big fights are gone, more jump off cause no big fights and then in the whole map of PS2 you have 4 people, everyone outside only sees 4 people and they dont see everyone else looking in, you dont join cause numbers are low and the other 1000 people also dont join cause numbers are low. low numbers promote low numbers which causes low numbers. and then the game just doesnt get back up

    These dev’s failed to capitalize on the early success by expanding their ability to finish the game, add polish and content that would cement its status.. instead they pocketed the money and rested on their laurels

    Planeside kept making stupid changes, that made players like me quit! They got so worried about attracting newer players by making the game easier and stupid.
    That They not only fail to attract new long time customers that actually will pay. but they chase away the long time customers by handicapping their favorite builds.
    All for its to hard for crappy new players who most likely quit playing anyway after a week, who NEVER subscribed. No reason to nerf AP rounds for tanks. you do a all HE build
    only to find a AP tank going after you, you should be a disadvantage!!! It's called strategy.
    that and demanding $100.00 for different skins is just ridiculous.

      i wonder if any single game had such a variety of consistently bad updates for so many years in a row. Either adding meaningless content, removing good content, adding content that worsened the game directly, all alongside continual ignorance of problems introduced in prior years. Very few changes could even be considered good in so many years now. Although i say this as they merge the european servers and on the tail end of a hacker problem being largely dealt with, so who knows if the next few years will be at all a trend reversal.

    Both games have had stale unbalanced metas that I really despise. Planetside 2 has several . Some examples are the valkry (squad spawn in vehicle too fast) beacon spam meta. The grenade bandoiler with revive grenades meta to abuse carapace and revive buff implants Meta . The Max suit Meta with berserker. The stale post CAI meta for vehicles and the current unbalanced sunderer. The infiltrator with Semi auto Sniper with recon abuse meta. The Baron meta. The NS Commissioner, underboss, and pilot Meta. There are probably more but those come to mind first.
    Battlebit has/had (not sure if true currently) a unbalanced weapons too that made me look elsewhere after 2 months. You either play the SMGs, use the mp5 , or get wrecked.

    it's just that Planetside 2 and BattleBit are very average in terms of content. The majority of players quit before playing 10 hours

      i mean thats what hes saying, at least for planetside the player base IS the content, you are correct now days that most will quit before hitting 10 hours but back in its hay day they certainly wouldnt.

      @badabing3391 Месяц назад

      how is ps2 average in terms of content though? Like the mechanics arent really unique but the combination of them certainly is, or else there wouldnt be such a lack of alternatives that the community would point to as a substitute. What you outline has more often been blamed on the experience of new players being really shitty rather than just straight up boring.

    Wrel killed vehicles, and half of online gone thats just a fact, you can check when online massively dropped, and it happened after Wrel first updates, now after years all infantry can destroy any tank by a pistol, and tanks can't do anything since they've been nerfed soo much. PS2 was the game about vehicles, were you had vehicle that you can play and upgrade, also vehicles used to make a massive battle in huge areas (which is actually a unique thing compared to other games like Battlefield or Call of duty ), now they forced to play infantry in a center of each continent which is boring as f.
    Removing key design from the game is a stupid idea, I hope Wrel will never get any position in game dev he's simply not qualified for this, with lack of technical skills
    Also I'm peaty sure if they run a vanilla version of PS2 like Blizzard does, it would be a massive online peak

    Neither of these games have "failed". It's natural for people to lose interest over time. Games as a Service is an incredibly small pond. Battlebit made a metric fuckton of money and had it's time in the sun. That's not a failure by any stretch of the imagination. Stop comparing these games to counterstrike. Nothing looks good compared to counterstrike.

Google is falling apart right now, nothing they make is working from a software perspective as their employees are not talented or even compentent. Companies have found themselves infested with unqualified workers, they cannot sustain this business model.

    • @Aliothale
      @Aliothale Месяц назад

      This. FPS games attract people with low attention spans. They simply aren't mature enough to have a perspective on their behavior so they jump from game to game blaming the developers rather than themselves. When you see 12 people clanning up in Battlebit and stacking teams, they missed the entire point of the game completely and are actively diminishing the playerbase. It's supposed to be casual fun, but the sweats ruin it for everyone and the playerbase suffers. If I'm at the top of the leaderboard with 100+ kills and 6-10 K/D, I know I need to turn it down a few notches so everyone can have fun. I'll then switch to a more supportive role for my team and help in other ways. If more people had this mindset, Battlebit would still be flourishing. The number one complaint I've heard from players is that the sweaty clan stacking has ruined their experience of the game and they've moved on. Battlebit would be 100x better with no clans, 4 player squads, and a quickplay button for 128v128 on official servers only. Everything else could be cut from the game and Battlebit would be better off for it.

That keeps it in the rotation to this day because when 6 of us are all online the only option is BB. Given we are not god gamers so nobody is going to notice we are a large party.
