In this episode I go over some things early in the game that are not obvious to anyone who is new to the game. You can go much deeper than I am in this episode and it is a fantastic game that also has a great Reddit community head here for in depth discussions:
    / goingmedieval
Going Medieval is a popular colony simulator that takes big inspiration from games like Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld. In the same fashion as the games that inspired it, Going Medieval can be very unforgiving, with harsh winters, regular attacks from angry neighbors, and a resource management system that requires a fair bit of forethought.
Set in Medieval England, the world your new villagers have set foot into does not promise an easy life. It's your job to help them settle and succeed. You will need to build defenses, manage resources, and create a drafted army to protect your new lands. Here's everything a beginner needs to know about Going Medieval.

    Excellent video!
Just to add to the great info provided:
Perks in creation of settlers. You can remove or add them. Some have higher point costs and some have negative point costs (detrimental perks) and those give you more points back to distribute in perks or skills.
Windows do affect heat in the buildings. They left air in when open during the summer to cool the interior, and keep warm air in during the winter when closed. To close them click on the window and choose open or closed. If you double click on one window, all the ones you can see will get selected too. So you can open or close all at once.
    Have fun everyone!

The character selection (510 points thing) was enough for me to start a new game! Thanks for the tips. It got me making level buildings too.

Mining down for Food Storage: Only mine what you need to set stairs going down. Get down to three levels bellow surface level (I tend to go all the way down to bedrock), and then dig out the area for your food storage (Taking foodstuffs, seeds, medicine, saplings and ice blocks). Anything else does not spoil due to temperature can be in a storage room on surface level.

With the updates made to the game since this video what you're saying makes complete sense as when I created this one level below ground was sufficient to keep stuff from rotting/deteriorating! Thanks for the comment appreciate it

Thanks, played this game at launch, time to start another playthrough after 2 years by now. I prefer this setting over sci-fi in rimworld.

You need to subtract points from skills you know you won’t be using that character for, freeing up more points to go and change your perks. Green thumb for botany for example is a good boost, if you’re going to customize the character you’re better off taking perks that sync with that characters abilities.

Starting Skills: Botany at 25, Culinary at least 15, Marksman at least 15, Intelectual at least 12. Those are my starting requirements. Everything else at least 8.

nice. You can also change the perks, which may influence the points as well. Also, for melee characters you might want to have the Robust perk.

Nice video, thank you. I just downloaded the game and played for a couple minutes but was completely lost since there was no tutorial. Strange that the developers didn't put in a tutorial.. unless I just missed it or something.

The faster you can train your domestic animals the sooner they can be used for hauling items to storage. Goats are great for this and for milk.

Why do you recommend picking valley? Wouldn't there be a lack of stones later? Also, collecting dead carcasses would be beneficial in the beginning, as you already took the time to build a butchering table

@@Boozebedrunk incidents occur both in normal and survival mode but are easier to defeat in normal mode. In normal mode Radscorpions and Deathclaws occur at 60+ population hope that helps 😊👍
