That did it! Great video. Liked seeing the swords next to each other. This is the best video on the sage by far. The Uc glamdring looks great but the hollow grip thing would make me uncomfortable too. Also, personally the lord of the rings engraving on the blade is more for a wall hanger for me than a functional sword, but that’s subjective. Overall both cool though.
Their regular version is 420. That one is still available for sale sometimes. They only made 1000 of the Museum Collection version (uc1425) and they were made from the more battle-worthy high carbon steel. Most likely 1095, but I haven't found that spec listed.
I have not seen any for sale right now. There is one white scabbard on ebay, but that is it that I know of. Sorry! Took me quite a while to get one. And I paid $1,500 for the blade and scabbard!
Hey Kane. I had read that it doesn't, so I just checked. Nope, about the same thickness the whole way until a couple inches from the tip. Unfortunately. But honestly, that's on par with the quality of the handle; looks great, and fairly strong, but we all wish they took it to the next level.
@@saint8228 Yeah I have no problem with that. It's a fantasy sword after all. As long as it's still balanced well, not a huge issue. Congrats on the acquisition, it's a fine-looking piece, on top of being very rare these days.
Hello do you know if the united cutlery lord of the ring's swords is full tang? I contacted them and they told me they were full tan, stainless-steel swords. But I just want to make sure before I buy it. for the most part I will just be display it on my wall in my room. But sometimes I might swing it around outside. will that be safe, or will that be dangerous? I know that stainless steel is not good for cutting and impact. regardless of the tang for the sword. The swords in question are. THE LORD OF THE RINGS GLAMDRING SWORD OF GANDALF UC1265 Or should I just buy the sage sword on the safe side? Thank you
Hey! Thanks for the question. That version of Glamdring is going to be a stainless steel blade with a rattail tang as they are called. So, a super thin threaded rod welded on to the stainless blade. Can it handle some swinging? Probably some. Any chopping would be out of the question. Only the one in the video, UC1425, has a proper full tang on a carbon steel blade. I would feel comfortable swinging it around, but I still wouldn't cut anything with it. Sage is quite nice, and quite solid. But it is heavy. Honestly, when people ask me for similar guidance on a functional Glamdring, right now I recommend a version by the company Ryansword. They are made in China, but are very functional and well liked by people I consider to be experts about real medieval swords. $339 plus shipping and you have a reasonably weighted functional Glamdring! I didn't mention it in this review because it didn't exist at the time. Check it out! www.ryansword.com/Handmade-Glamdring-Sword-European-Sword-1095-Folded-Steel--Ryan1405-p-1299.html I think Sage is prettier, but I think the Ryansword version is better.... I hope that helps! Let me know if you have other questions.
@@saint8228 Thank you for the fast replay. I didn't think the UC 1625 Glamdring sword was the real full tang. But it is a rat-tail full tang lol. I saw the one on Ryan swords Website. I Thank am going to buy the Sage one on dark sword armory. Its more but it like better than the one on RyanSwords website to me at least. I will just safe some more before getting the true Glamdring sword lol (The Sage) I was leaning more on the sage sword from dark sword Amory. Thank you for your help!
For sure. I actually have a new long leaf blade now that is a much better than the DSA Sage. But it also costs $1,400.... By Valiant Armoury in Texas. Incredible sword and now by far my new favorite. I should make a new video about it.
Very happy with this comparison , I think I will either buy the sage or sword of Feanor next from DSA, really into leaf blades now. Valiant has a beautiful leaf blade but its 1400.... A side note and only saying this as a friend not a dick , the hilt is the whole thing-pommel, crossguard and grip, the thing you refer to as the hilt is just the crossguard. Not being a RUclips douche I swear!!! Thanks for the vid and you have excellent taste sir
Interesting about the hilt thing. Thank you for the wisdom. Turns out I was taught wrong many many years ago and was never corrected! I know the Valiant leaf you speak of. I missed out buying a used one for $700 several months ago and am kicking myself. I've been searching for another one since. I will make one myself before I pay $1,400. Similar to the Excalibur I am working on, I CAN and will make a leaf similar to the Valiant one. Currently working on my version of christian fletcher's Borderwatch. Almost done with that. Then not sure if I will tackle excalibur or the leafblade next. Both fun projects!
Jesse Belsky makes a sweet leafblade sword using a Jody Samson blade (one of the best out there), and it is beautiful. Can't remember the cost, but not as high as the Valiant. But it is also about 34" overall, so not similar in length to the Valiant... But still very nice. Ironically he didn't make the blade, guard, nor pommel for it, just the handle and pieces it together! But the result is beautiful. Too short for me otherwise I would have bought that. instead I am forced to make it from scratch I guess ; )
@@saint8228 Awesome I will check it out, thank you. I think apart from DSA most leaf blades are generally shorter which is too bad they are very elegant looking and are great at chopping ! Too bad DSA never seems to have a sharp enough edge, but that's a lot of smiths/manufacturers.
Adam, I wanted to make sure you knew about this leaf. I would love it, but am not about to spend $2,000... There is a used Green shield Ranger on ebay for $1,500, which I love too. But again, as much as I want it, I am working on my own Ranger sword right now that is turning out amazing. So I must resist! www.etsy.com/listing/750508665/leaf-sword-neo-medieval?ref=shop_home_active_8&frs=1

Does the UCMC glamdring's blade come with any distal tapering?
