  • In Week 10 of our 2 story house build we complete the forming of our tie beams and finish the last of our columns and footers. From Week 11 and on we will be now focused on going up. Which is a dramatic change as we have been build ground line for quite some time now. Of course we will hopefully be including aerial video here soon to keep everyone updated.

Why you didn’t construct a basement like in a typical American house? I think it’s a really good feature of a house because you can easily fix pipelines and electrical wirings, unlike Filipino house that all pipes and wires comes within the concrete. I like that concept if I will build my house again.

The tie beams (also called plinth beams) have been done very well. Especially for earthquake endurance they are an essential part of the post and beam structure: Basically every room becomes a 3 dimensional box enclosed by plinth beams on the bottom, posts on the sides and slab beams on top.
On some projects I have seen them neglected or limited to connecting just a few posts, which is especially risky in soft soil during earthquakes.

ive watched u guys from way back when ur just renting ur place here in manila to now owning lands and building houses! richard is doing great using the american way of building houses! i mean here in the philippines we really need to improve the way we do construction and richard is doing really well sharing his ideas. it will make our workers more efficient to work and hindi yung putso putso lang na trabaho. i have a feeling na in the future u will have a construction business and interior design business na! its good to see na u both love and ur passionate of what ur doing.

I was watching an older blog of yours and did not know there was so many haters out there. They cannot be happy for you and your family because their lives suck and are living in a hate filled mind/life. Ignore the haters as they just want what you have but without working for it! So many people like that these days. I will be joining my wife this summer in PH., and we will be building or buying a home if i cannot find a really good contractor. I have never had a boss in my life as good as you are to your workers they are blessed to have you Richard. I've come down with a few health conditions lately and I'm starting to recuperate a little I have a social worker here getting me on disability and into housing that's more appropriate for me and she's going to help me get a passport to go to the Philippines to be with my fiance and Cebu. And I hope to get my fiance and maybe take a trip where you're at to meet all of you it would be an honor for me to meet you. You are a good builder Richard and a good man. Keep up the good work my friend and stay safe don't fall in any of those trenches you're digging you might get lost. And I love your walking through the scaffold routine very graceful Richard LOL. Looking good so far seems very solid. Is the finished house going to have ac and solar panels? You know what may be an option down the line could be to build a separate 4 plex say 120 Sqm each unit and make iit a rental building to hold onto and rent out. Rental income could be good passive income…..!

Good day Clarence. Its running very well. I will be doing a 100 hour review video soon on it. The one issue I did run into was our location gets very warm. The machine wasn't able to cool the hydraulic as quickly as I needed so I added a hydraulic oil cooler to it for an additional 5k pesos or 100 usd and it works better than ever.
The one I purchased was the .8 ton.
