Since they’re a harmonizing band, they both often simultaneously play solos and rhythms at the same time. It’s not guitar hero
@@mikeystarr775 Spot on! Def Leppard is the epitome of what the term "band" means. They all check their egos at the door and serve the song. The other thing that some folks don't realize is that Viv likes to sing. Dio and Whitesnake wouldn't let him. He does a ton in Def Leppard. Joe actually calls him his best friend because he can't hit the high stuff consistently with the power he used to these days. Fair enough considering how long he has been at it. Viv comes in on the high end stuff to help Joe.That is a good bit of the reason that Def Leppard can still play live so well. Viv says that the vocals are so difficult and complicated that it is a relief to be able to concentrate on them. Listen to the song We Belong at some point. All of the guys take turns singing lead. They are all great, but Viv is good enough to sing lead in just about any band out there. In Last in Line he can scratch his heavy playing itch, but he seldom if ever sings. It is a win for him on all fronts. He gets to sing. He gets to shred. He gets paid. Why not?
Craig might have more technical "wow" in some ways, but his creative abilities and feeling weren't on par with Campbell's. Dio tanked in popularity after firing Vivian. Goldy just didn't have the chemistry. Great player, for sure, and seems to be a decent human being, but I'm more a fan of Campbell
I was born in 83 so was a teenager in the late 90s. Listened to def leopard first and used to think Vivian was just some mediocre guitarist. Discovered Dio later and was amazed. Blew mind when I found out Vivian was the guy playing guitar on those. He's chilling in leopard, good for him, that's like doing really well in college and relaxing in a well paying job for the rest of your life. Its perfect.
As well as his solos on Dio records and at live shows, Viv showed real creativity onstage with Whitesnake. The showcase he shared with Adrian Vandenberg was always entertaining, and he added extra feeling to the solos on Is This Love and Ain't No Love...
I also was thinking about Gary Moore listening to this. 1:33 reminds me of 'the End of the World' intro. I think Moore's very underappreciated as a metal guitarists, albeit he's regarded as one of the greatest blues rock guitarists ever.
Moore's playing on the G-Force album...Viv was going for something like that... it sure sounds like, but Moore was untouchable at that style, which he created.
Vivian Campbell was a shredder.. I saw him live with Dio, many times every time he impressed me. I was glad he joined DL if was a good fit. But yeah he to good for them.. but hey he sheds when they let him..
We Rock, dont talk to strangers,Last In Line,Stand Up And Shout,Rainbow In The Dark,Holy Diver,Just a Nothere day,Man On The Silver Mt, those are his best songs I think
The people who gave 26 thumbs down just have no clue. Id also like to point out to all the idiots criticising him in these clips, that he was only AROUND 22-23 years old in these videos. Anyone who can do what he was doing at that age has got some takent and if you can't see that, your an idiot. As a matter of fact, some of these clips were from the special from the spectrum video, of which I was at that show. It was his birthday that night. He was mind blowing to say r least, not to mention the stuff he did in the Sabbath and rainbow songs, blew both Iommi and Blackmore away.
I remember when the first Dio album came out. Every guitarist I knew loved Vivian's playing. And on the next album too. Sacred Heart was good but not as great as the first two.
I am such a huge fan of Vivian's. Very proud owner of his Gibson Vivian Campbell Signature Custom #26. www.musiker-board.de/media/albums/gibson-les-paul-custom-vivian-campbell.5153/ My greatest wish - Jam with Viv on Dio, Whitesnake and Leppard songs... and if it was just an hour...
Listen to Vivian's leads in any song. They're relentless. He never stalls, lags or shows any sign of weakness.

Why not?
Goddamn! Vivian is just fucking amazing. I love the way he plays.
one of my top favorite guitar players
He's one of my favorite guitarists ever :)
Top demais
Who's better, Vivian Cambell or Craig Goldie? How do you choose, they're both spectacular!
Craig might have more technical "wow" in some ways, but his creative abilities and feeling weren't on par with Campbell's. Dio tanked in popularity after firing Vivian. Goldy just didn't have the chemistry. Great player, for sure, and seems to be a decent human being, but I'm more a fan of Campbell
the ending on that riff @2:10 is just perfect because the pieces aren't just stitched together, they flow in time
1:37 Dirty Fingers by Gary Moore!! I know its a common progression but seeing as how Vivian loved Gary, I see that as a nod!
Viv has an AMAZING TONE with his black Les Paul metal guitar god
I love all the GR8's, but when I 1st heard the RAINBOW solo, it brought me right back 2 END OF THE WORLD, CORRIDOR OF POWER!!!!!!
I widsh they wouln d t argue..,😓😓😓😓😓😓they we re perfection together
I was born in 83 so was a teenager in the late 90s. Listened to def leopard first and used to think Vivian was just some mediocre guitarist. Discovered Dio later and was amazed. Blew mind when I found out Vivian was the guy playing guitar on those. He's chilling in leopard, good for him, that's like doing really well in college and relaxing in a well paying job for the rest of your life. Its perfect.
It's Mob Rules of Black Sabbath with Vivian improvising an amazing solo
Under rated Irish awesomeness… we produce some of the best musicians for a little place!
As well as his solos on Dio records and at live shows, Viv showed real creativity onstage with Whitesnake. The showcase he shared with Adrian Vandenberg was always entertaining, and he added extra feeling to the solos on Is This Love and Ain't No Love...
How do you get this awesome 👌
Fantastico Vivian, chitarrista di gran tecnica
Dio should have paid Vivian all the money he wanted. What ever it took to keep him happy.
Early Viv phrasing is like no other.
‘Cept the great ....Vinny Vincent!
Get well Vivian! Our prayers with you!
Vivian said more than once he didn't use a whammy bar when he was in Dio but here he is with a floyd.
he was referring to the first tour (Holy Diver) he recorded the album and toured with the black Les Paul only which had no whammy bar
Owes a lot to Gary Moore...and he is the first to admit this.
I also was thinking about Gary Moore listening to this.
1:33 reminds me of 'the End of the World' intro.
I think Moore's very underappreciated as a metal guitarists, albeit he's regarded as one of the greatest blues rock guitarists ever.
Amazing player🎸
@@faggotsmoker9588 Gary Moore was one of Randy's influences
Indeed. There is a hell of a lot of pre-blues era Moore in Campbell's solos.
Moore's playing on the G-Force album...Viv was going for something like that... it sure sounds like, but Moore was untouchable at that style, which he created.
damn he is fast and powerful
Truly awesome and way under rated guitarist!
From 1:19 onwards , im sure thats off a gary moore solo from the live album we want moore
Long live vivian cambell.
@2:58. insane. baddest! hands down.
One of the best
yeah...the solos for Promises and Go suit both in that they have shred moments and are melodic
Vivian campbell is my guitar hero..
Guess u never heard of Vinny Vincent
King of shredders
I don’t know why he isn’t more popular. He’s stupid good
Vivian Campbell was a shredder.. I saw him live with Dio, many times every time he impressed me. I was glad he joined DL if was a good fit. But yeah he to good for them.. but hey he sheds when they let him..
So underrated what a great guitarist he is
Thanks.
Mr. Vivian "Fuck" Patrick Campbell 🔥🎸💪🤘😎
He Simply The Best 🔥🎸 From Dio Band 💪🤘😎
Impresionante!!!!
Bravisssimo!
We Rock, dont talk to strangers,Last In Line,Stand Up And Shout,Rainbow In The Dark,Holy Diver,Just a Nothere day,Man On The Silver Mt, those are his best songs I think
Most underrated guitarist of the 80s
Not underrated
What an underated guitarist
He is one of the best
Realmente tooooodo el concierto de Filadelfia es lo mejor tanto de él como de la propia banda… Dio por siempre!🤘🏼😎
Guitarrista increíble, The las in Line, su solo de los mejores de la historia del rock
He’s awesome
Simplemente Vivían Campbell !!
Vivian just shredding on that guitar. Got damm.
I remember when the first Dio album came out. Every guitarist I knew loved Vivian's playing. And on the next album too. Sacred Heart was good but not as great as the first two.
For sure! I saw Viv with Dio on all three of those tours. That band was really good
I am such a huge fan of Vivian's.
Very proud owner of his Gibson Vivian Campbell Signature Custom #26.

My greatest wish - Jam with Viv on Dio, Whitesnake and Leppard songs... and if it was just an hour...
БРАВО,!!!
I love this guy
