Best review I've seen on this game yet. Finally, someone who doesn't ramble about the setting. But that aside, would you say it's a better bet to compare The Surge to Bloodborne in terms of gameplay and environment design (functional, not aesthetic) than to Dark Souls?
I am looking forward to playing this game soon, after playing Dark Souls 1-3 & Lords Of The Fallen, I got a little bored of the settings those game were featured in, Bloodborne's world was about the same but different if that makes sense and really enjoyed that world, The Surge's world is a nice change of pace and I cannot wait to explore it.
Great review ! I love the last part you compared to other rpg games (from 10:40 so on). If this game has COOP feature, it should improve game's quality immensely.
What is that game you listed that it shares elements with? Bloodborne, x , dark souls, and lord of the fallen. What was the one you listed after Bloodborne?
Finally, a review that brings out the good. Also a suggestion with characters, maybe a fallout 4 style creation? With NPCs saying your name if it matches a preset. And co op could be fellow friendly co workers that come out of a garage or teleporter, while "invaders" could be security special forces that spawn with an item called a threat searcher or something. This game already has NPCs that use the players move set, PvP is possible!
It's amazing....my 8 year old son even got in on the action. And for such a difficult game. We never noticed how hard it is. My son never asked to play my Souls games but this game he begs to play.
Hopefully the character creation and MP will be available in the future like Nioh to keep the game and its community alive especially with the some of the interesting combat elements like limb selection. It will certainly give more tactic and strategy decisions in multiplayer matches, also it would be interesting if you kill a player with the selected part you also get the chance to earn his/her selected part (like in the game) after his/her demise, LOL.
Thanks. Good review. But, I didn't like the visual spoilers. So, part way through I switched to just listening to it and enjoyed hearing your critique. I got the game and made it to the first boss fight. I agree with much of what you said in your review. Why no multiplayer?! Grrrr. But, overall I'm still really enjoying it and glad I got the game. It kept me up late last night. And today I've been thinking on how to defeat the 1st boss.

Tho not a game for me I respect the studio and was so very happy to see the sequel to this come out an do well I wanted to see this review once I saw it had been reviewed here on the channel and was not disappointed.
While I think the game is decent, the level design is far from perfect... I've literally lost the count of enemies waiting in a corner jumping in my face as soon as I cross the door... and the maze -like levels where too many corridors and too many rooms look similar means a persistent lack of variety. Fun, but there's a lot of room for improvement
free2play already.. I’ve played 3 hours and I’m not really that fawned of it. I love Dark Souls.. and I’ve also played Lords Of The Fallen. I’ll continue playing for awhile longer..
Kinda sad that it isnt on a different setting , with character creation and some hoes , but the combat looks good and with a helm it seems i wont have to see 😂

Thank you!
In terms of combat, it's not that similar to either but if you had to pick it's closer to Bloodborne, I think
Very interesting in-depth review, thank you Fextra! Keep up the good work.
Thank you for watching!

This is by a mile the best and most fair review of this cool new title :)
Thanx!
This game looks like Dark Souls and Horizon Zero Dawn got together and had a bastard child. It looks AWESOME!

great review. Thanks for pointing out the flaws carried over from LotF, that makes it a wait til it's cheap or just pass.
This may well be a sleeper classic.

Totally agree.
this game is not bad AT ALL.. but it needs ati and nvidia drivers.. vsync is completely messed up at least on ati cards.

Do you think it's fair for Nier Automata to not be on Xbox One? Because I do. And still do!
good review but I thought 2:16 was pretty spolierish.
I hope this game gets more attention than Overwatch.
