i think it is time for quad channel memory for the consumers! But yeah, memory bandwith is a large bottle neck for some tasks.

They could give usa at least triple Channel (lga1366) but i believe they will continue as dual or even return to single if RAM speeds continue increasing to and reaching new records.

@@kurthectic2902 lga1366 cpus are an interesting case. i dont think triple channel will make a come back or cpu design will devolve to have a single channel. (i mean you can always populate some of the channels* ) the Strix halo cpus are rumored to have 4 channels. i think there will be a quad channel mainstream desktop plat for for am6 (maybe am5+/am6+* ? ). if they increase the cores per ccd or ccd types present in these sockets.

Granted on a lot of games the difference doesn´t exist or is pretty small. However in more memory demanding games it could be the difference between stutter or smooth gameplay.
Another important thing to mention. Single channel is just a bad idea for anyone planning on using integrated gpu for anything but watching videos/browsing. New IGPU´s can run quite some games nowadays... but they sure as hell suffer a lot from a halved memory bandwidth if one runs only single channel.

It's not about the graphically demanding games but the CPU demanding ones. But even on those on modern CPUs the bandwidth of a single channel is so big I don't think it would even stutter. Loose performance for sure, but I don't think it would be unplayable.
And yeah, I forgot to mention about integrated graphics but for those dual channel is a must because as you say the internal GPU needs as much bandwidth as possible, and with them even getting higher speed RAM can make a notable difference.

@@teflonstestbench True. 780m Integrated GPU´s can actually run cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p low with fsr quality/balanced at roughly 60 fps... which i find quite impressive.
However... go with single channel ram and the fps will nosedive.
Also, anyone going to use the igpu for this kind of tasks should remember to subtract the igpu vram allocation from the installed ram. In which case 8gb of ram wouldn´t even be enough for light gaming as it´s essentially just 6 gb at best.

@snakeplissken1754 In that case yes, having a single channel will destroy the fps but that would be because of the integrated graphics and not the CPU itself. But yeah, having more ram in general and getting highee speeds, dual channel and tighter latencies will increase the fps with the integrated GPU.
About the performance it is really impressive, but most of the time it makes more sense to get a dedicated GPU even if it is a second hand old one as that would be cheaper than getting the CPU with the powerful integrated graphics, at least for desktop those with the full integrated GPU are the Ryzen 7 and those are a lot more expensive and offer less performance than getting a second hand GTX 1070 or similar + a ryzen 5 CPU. It would be great if they could make R3 or R5 with the full GPUs as that would make more sense to use without a dedicated card.

I have 32gb pair of 16gb, they do not run at dual channel, but they are ddr4 and have 18 42 clock 3600 so I gather because they are single 16gb rather than 8gb, the dual channel is not required because of the memory size, ddr4 is superfast even faster at 16 clocks than my memory at 18 clocks, I have considered upgrading ram to 4000mhz, but I may just get new board ram and cpu, and study the new bios settings and cpu configurations for best stability and temps.

Maybe using one single channel would help faulty intel cpus - since it forces lower performance

I have a gaming laptop with single 8ram channel and my biggest issue its the masive fps drop from 120 to 90fps every seconds, and my download speed its only using 2.5g ram which its slow. I am planning to upgrade this week 16 dual channel.

Are you using a dedicated GPU or the integrated graphics? With integrated graphics the difference is bigger as the internal GPU will also use the system ram and GPUs are a lot more dependent on bandwidth.

The more weaker cpu you have the more will be the difference.

I think it is the other way around, as you can use more CPU performance with more bandwidths
