I know im Super late but I absolutely love the jeep YJ, my dad's dad had one and gave it to my dad but he didn't take care of it and after a couple of years it stoped working and sat in the drive way for 13 years under a tree, I didn't get to rusty because the tree was big and covered it from the rain. I saw it every day when I was coming back from school and I just loved the shape of it and the headlights. So I asked him if I could have it, he said if I fixed it I could have it so I said yes of course. I fixed it and it's the best car I've ever had, I use it every day and I love it.

Used to have a 95 too, 4" lift (2" body & 2" suspension) packin some mean ass 35's. Stripped the interior and put a bikini top, aint nothing better than riding around in that bad boy, sold it though, got a Comanche. Still deciding if it was worth it...

I know this video is from a while ago. But I recently purchased a 94 YJ with 115,000 miles, it was being used to pull a plow for gardens. After replacing 2 injectors, repairing the brakes and cleaning it up doing paint touch ups I am super impressed with it last of the true Jeeps

🤦🤦🤦.... why dude Mopar is trash and I have a Jeep and I hate it it's got the inline 6 so it never dies and then every 50,000 Mi or 100,000 Mi the f****** transmission blows..... and I'm f****** sick of it but then I'm stuck with it because it's so cheap and easy to work on and easy to repair that I end up fixing it cuz I have to I will never ever buy Dodge Ford Jeep or Chrysler for me it's really Toyota or nothing they got Tacomas that are hitting the million mile mark on stock Transmissions the forerunners are absolutely Bulletproof and the same thing with the Tacomas and the Tundras if you want to be doing something crazy with your vehicle.

Video very nicely done - a nice mix of trail audio, tasteful music and voice. Geared more to the audience than most offroad vids with manic music and camera operators yelling and laughing in the mic.

I have a 1993 YJ. Have had it 10 years now and have had no major issues yet. Radiator, exhaust alt and water pump. It is a 2.5, little under powered but holds its own off road. Have done about 5 to 6k in upgrades. It is still a little tank after a total of 200k miles. Love the old ones and not afraid of putting in dents and scratches. Something I would not do on a 40 or 50k Jeep.

I have a '92 YJ with the works. On the worst of days, I can still manage a smile on my face as soon as I get in it. You really have to take advantage of using it off-road several times a month to make it worth it. It's not a practical daily driver. But 4 to 6 hours of mud, rocks, or snow every other Saturday and an overnighter in the high country every 6 weeks sure is therapeutic! For those of you tempted to buy a YJ, I have one small suggestion. Think about getting a Cherokee (XJ) for longer wheelbase, more room for gear/dogs/passengers, and find one with a Dana44 in the rear. Whether XJ or YJ, try to buy it stock and build it up so you can do it right and learn as you go. That's how you learn how things work, how to do your own repairs on the trail and how to make sure you have the spare parts and tools you need. As others have stated in these comments...air down the tires, disconnect the sway bar, remove the track bars; you will be amazed at the difference in comfort and performance. Yes, I will have a JK one day but not until my son is old enough to take over the YJ.

Great video, thank you. I recently bought a '96 Wrangler (when I say recently, I mean 5 months ago; and when I say '96, I mean '95, since there was an intermittent year when the square lights changed to retro round lights), and I am loving it. It just goes absolutely everywhere. From the shop down the road to up the mountain trail and beyond. It is purely utilitarian and offers no creature comforts; but isn't that exactly the point? It will get you there; but just not in a hurry. You will arrive happy because you drove it; instead of simply driving it. It is the American equivalent of the British Land Rover. And that is the best compliment ever.

I had my Jeep YJ for six years, and I still love it. I don't think I will replace it with any other car. Yes, it's stocky, aggressive, very bumpy and not really fast to accelerate, but I could come up with few ideas that made it better... I installed thinner and longer leaf springs, and replaced the stock oil shocks with modern air shocks, so it drives smoother.. and I installed a turbo charger so it accelerates better

  • @melodicdreamer72
    @melodicdreamer72 8 лет назад

For those looking at getting a used Jeep - I can agree with the Jeep buying tips here. While I would have come to the same conclusion after a little more research into Jeeps before buying one, I took a big gamble ending up getting a 1990 Sahara model with low miles, no rust, no air conditioning, with hardtop and a 5 speed for 3700 dollars. I was only shooting for a relatively cheap secondary vehicle to get me through the few snowy days we have here in the winter. The gamble was it had been downgraded to a farm vehicle some time before I got my hands on it and there were some obvious mechanical issues that I knew would have to be dealt with right off. After fixing the obvious problems, it took about a year of breakdown pains and about another 7000 dollars in parts (that includes some labor in there too) before it came together. A couple of years have gone by since that first painful year, but I can say I do really like it. Even running simple errands like getting groceries is fun when you are running with the top off. Going with an old carbureted 4.2 liter Jeep is not a bad way to go if you don’t live in a place where salting in the winter is about a daily event and can get it for the right price. Since these Jeeps are pretty easy to work on, I've learned a lot about vehicle maintenance from doing as much of the repair work as dared to do myself. The gamble I took on buying this Jeep thinking I would end up with a cheap secondary vehicle didn’t work out at all. I use it as my daily driver now and can’t complain about anything except the gas mileage. Before buying one, it does't hurt to get first hand information/advice from other Jeep enthusiasts by joining one of the online forums. - My experience and two cents worth.

+melodicdreamer72 glad you are enjoying the jeep considering you spent almost 11k for it in the end. Could have bought a lot newer jeep in better condition right off that bat for 11k but in the end, its your baby now and you have the satisfaction of knowing what work you put into it etc.

Thanks g-shep13... Yeah, I passed up a really nice TJ with the 4.0 liter before getting the YJ. I can't complain at this point. I just got home from a couple hundred mile road trip and the Jeep ran it like a champ. I think it was wanting to do some off-roading in there, but we didn't get a chance. Anyways, its top-off weather, so good luck with making the leap. Happy Jeepin to you too when you get there.

I my self have a 1987 YJ but I have to disagree with ya on the 4.0 vs 4.2. I gotta go with the 4.2/258 because anyone with a set of tools can fix those engines and give them a tune up in the garage. While fuel injection is nice, if somethings breaks I "personally" like to know how to fix it.
Again thats just my opinion but to each their own! Keep the videos coming!

+Stuka87 They are fun though. If sort of raced in my jeep time a couple times on the curves, not testing the limits or anything. As long as you don't flip it corners really well haha.

I wish people would stop with the stupid hate for the YJ.. I have had both TJ and YJ and they each have their cool points. For me, anything past mid 1991 is too Chrysler-fied. Up until then they had still had most of the original AMC engineering..

Interested in more info about an automatic...my son is turning 16 soon and I'd like to get him one. While teaching him to use a straight is not an issue I like the idea of the convenience of an automatic. He will do some off road driving - we own a horse farm on a river and he drives on the farm. Thanks for any input.

You guys are wrong about the gear ratios. It's probably the fact you have big tires and haven't regeared. Many other Jeep auto such as the 42RLE and AW4 have similar if not the same ratio as the 32RH for gears 1-3. They are not to far apart.

When the engine gets too tired you can build a nice stroker for it.

I have a 4cyl 95 yj and I must say if you plan on getting bigger tires I would get the 6cyl or regearing the differential.

You should be getting pretty good articulation but you have to take off your track bars and off road disconnect your sway bar.

i think i have soved the litte amounts of flex
you leaf springs are under the axial i would suggest switching them to above the axial you would get more flex and a little bit more ground clearance

Hey Tommy - love your Jeep videos. I've always wondered why you bought the JK Sport S? Did you just want an upgrade? I just bought my first Jeep - a '16 Rubicon - and your vids were very helpful and influential. Thanks!
