We bought an 89 about 3 years ago (technically it’s the wife’s, got for her birthday 😁). Black with gray dash. It was solid frame and body when we got it. Have replaced all the important stuff and upgraded what needed to be to go to the 33’s. Sticking with the Dana 30/35 front and rear till something breaks, have not taken out serious wheeling yet, just use it like you said, fun ride around town on a nice day. And it’s a great project for this old retired dude thats still learning. Have fun and thanks for sharing, it will be fun to see what you do to it.

Hey Chad, really appreciated this comment you made about the YJ. Been driving around my dads old 1990 YJ and love it for this exact reason. Bad on gas, 50 on the highway, hurts your back, and won't pass smog. But that feeling of putting friends in those old sun tanned seats never fails to put a smile on my face. @@ChadsGarage1gearing is more likely than not 3.07 Yukon Gear and axle makes kits for both axles as well as mechanical Grizzly lockers. Those oversized tires are killing your 5th gear… I’ll bet at highway speeds you pretty much stay in 4th. I’m doing my floors and the underside of the tub in Raptor liner. I’ve settled on a shade of blue with black and silver accents even though my factory color is classic black. That Sahara was an ugly green color. You can find the Factory Service Manuals online in PDF format , also called FSM for short. You need to know anything hit me up because this specific Jeep is my specialty.
I'd take a yj over any other jeep. I have a jk now, and I love it, but I'd rather have a yj. I had a brand new 95 yj back in the day and wished I still had it. To me, the yj's were the best jeeps made.
@@jk_wrangler13 this is my second one. My first one was a long time ago. Bought it at a buy here pay here car lot. It had bald tires and drove horribly. I gave it back. I was way too young to know what it was. I had a TJ a couple years ago but I’ve always had a soft spot for the YJ. I like that almost all the “Real Jeepers” hate it lol. 😂
For someone who likes the YJ you sure seemed pretty negative about them. I've had a 1995 YJ since 1998. I raised 4 boys and it was a daily driver. Grocery store and trips to Disney and other adventures. as the grew up, each of the 4 boys had a shot at the jeep beig their daily driver. In 2018, hte jeep was stolen and totaled, we got back a mess. The family loved it so much we refused to total it and it is currently up on a lift with a new chassis, KBS frame coating and being refurbed from the ground up....and all the boys are pitching in to help.
Get rid of the carpet. Rhino line it tan cometely. Black gets too hot. The carpet holds in moisture and created mold and rust. Thats for stock jeeps that still have a hard top on.

It was on it when I got the Jeep. It’s really nice though. Ive got my phone holder and a cup holder attached to it.
