    I think he was in two minds. By leaving the door open, he invited you in. He was half-hearted in execution, and that's the result when you drive like that. Either defend the line or give more room. Some may say you weren't far up enough alongside him, but you stayed the course, and he turned albeit slightly into you. You can't just disappear. I think he realised his error in judgement too late.

    • @habsom1406
      @habsom1406 2 года назад +7

      I think you're spot on with your analysis blak7 rc. Once allowed in, he had nowhere to go. You're right, he was in two minds, probably still spooked from lifting at the corner, losing all his speed and momentum and the knowledge that his lead was in jeopardy. The replay show the brake lights come on first before he was cut off, as you say he had nowhere to go. Don't think there was any mal-intention, merely unfortunate. Very tight race and only takes one slip to let the other guy in.

    • @kmonk101
      @kmonk101 2 года назад +9

      This is 100% how I saw it. Kool Aid is trying to have it both ways: opening up the inside so that you don't take the faster line around the outside, but squeezing the inside line so that you aren't able to get past. As black7 rc says, defend the line or give more room.
      Under these circumstances- where he screwed up and lost all his momentum, creating a big speed differential- its just unsporting. Sometimes you need to eat your mistakes- you can't just park in the center of the track and expect the rest of the pack to line up behind you while you sort things out.

    • @99blackbelt
      @99blackbelt 2 года назад +3

    From the chase cam view of Matts car:
    23:52 - Cover his car with your hand and then watch your own car in the moments before contact... there appears to be a little movement to the left.
    25:01 - There is a super small left steering input to the left immediately after you brake for the turn that put you into the rear of his car as he was initiating his move to the right.
    I think he should have left you space & I think you had a reaction to try and make a little space so you could stay on track. I offer no judgements, only observations :D

    21:35 I don’t think either of you did anything wrong in the incident. It’s a fast right-hander and he left the door open to get closer to the racing line to set up his corner. You put your car on the inside because it was the only place to be with your overspeed, but I don’t think the move was ever on - your entry was fairly shallow and I think his outside line would have carried more speed and kept him ahead without the contact. Great race - glad to have you back!

  • @asvectic1255
    @asvectic1255 2 года назад +5

    I think it's really hard to determine cause in that one. I do think you made the right call to take the inside line after his mistake, but the timing of your/his approach to the apex made it hard for you to actually turn in yourself and for him to assume that he may be in the clear. You appear to back off ever so slightly before the contact, and his race engineer may have said "clear right" leading him to believe he could make the corner freely. At the end of the day I'd chalk that one up as a racing incident and hope he wasn't too upset about it. Great race and great video! Look forward to the next one.

  • @racingfortomorrow
    @racingfortomorrow 2 года назад

    Some food for thought: 1. You making a clean pass by him is your responsibility. 2. you were super inside and would have pinched yourself on the exit and would have over-slowed that high-speed sweeper, I think the move would have been to have gone to the left side and carried the momentum to pass him on that high-speed sweeper. That was a great race to watch, and I enjoyed it! This is my take from racing cars in real life as there is no reset button, just dollar figures. I also instruct and my biggest things to teach are situational awareness and driving predictably (he was unpredictable by being offline to block). If I was the front car, I understand the middle line to have the thought of you backing off and not taking the inside and pinching the exit. I have been racing for over two weeks on iRacing and I am hooked. I am using your channel to grow on the sim rig, thanks for the insight!

    I think he pulled left to the middle of the road to give himself space to take the upcoming right turn, not necessarily to give you space, hence he didn't go all the way left to widen the angle. At the point he turned right it was to hit the apex and resume the normal racing line, the contact between you two was only just, and either of you could have done things different for a cleaner outcome. One thing, i think you could see better from your viewpoint than he could see you from his viewpoint, so I'll say its a 51%-49% in his favour! Great video!

    his wheel inputs suggest he was attempting to block or deny you the inside line. But likely he didnt recognize your nose was already inside his rear quarter panel, plus his line was way off for a normal line at that corner. The incident he had on the front stretch also was an attempted block id argue but much more obvious. Glad to see youre feeling better and back at it!

    I don't think he had a clear plan on how to handle that situation. You did nothing wrong imo. You both seemed to have your cars straightened out prior to the right-hander. You even braked before him for the turn-in. He didn't seem to realize you had a fender on him. I mostly race ovals so this is all that is needed. I have heard that on the road side, you have to be at least to the door before it is "your" corner. I don't really agree with that philosophy, tbh. Maybe he does and thought you would concede. A learning experience for sure. Glad to see you back making videos again! 👍

    On the Incident, I would have gone wide and used my Inertia to pass leaving me open to pick my apex on the next turn, as you decided to go inside you were already restricting your approach, compromising your line, and leaving you exactly where you found yourself with a hesitating driver defending and cutting off your approach. Just my take 🖖

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  2 года назад +1

      May have been the better approach. I was worried if I went around the outside I’d have to back right out to avoid running off track on the exit which would have put me back in fourth. I figured if I went down the inside it was less likely to end up with 3rd place taking advantage as he would have to also get past the slower car.

    Looks to me like Kool Aid was trying to do the right thing by giving you some room down the inside based on the initial steering slightly left after the slow exit, but I suppose approaching the right hand corner he had to start turning in and similarly, with a great run, you were also committed to the corner... really a case of "Who Blinks First" 😅😅😅. That being said... Kool Aid's next incident down the straight with another car was "interesting" in the sense that there was room made up the left hand side and as the faster car was trying to pass, there was a slight move closing off that space.... just an observation... By the way, great racing and thoroughly enjoyed watchin it...

    I think he went to the middle hoping you'd go for the inside, but have too much speed for such a tight inside line, forcing you to slow down and allowing him to get the lead back. Which, I believe, would have worked without the contact. As for the contact itself, it's hard to say because he did start turning, but he also left you plenty of space and, at the moment of the contact, you were on an outward trajectory away from the apex. I believe that, had you been parallel to him, there would have been no contact. It's like you were trying to push him out to get more space, while he was trying to squeeze you in. I'd say it's a racing incident.

    Reminded me of Hill Schumacher in 1994. Personally I think you could have waited and it was just a little too ambitious to go on the inside there and expect him not to turn in on the racing line when you're not fully alongside. Just my two penneth though as you are the attacking car.

    Your entry into that right hander (example at 5:32) is interesting. You're going in shallow and actually steering left a tiny bit, and somehow getting the back to step out by lifting the gas, right? (I'm about to get my first ever sim rig and I'm interested in how it's going to feel!)

    Chompin' at the bit for my MOZA gear to arrive, can hardly wait to experience a DD setup. R9 Base, FSR Wheel, and CPL pedals. Building my Zen9 7900X system while I am waiting. Trying to decide what Sim Software I want to use, now I will have a PC and Gear to be competitive I am going to try my hand at online racing for the 1st time.

      You're gonna love it! Assetto Corsa with Content Manager and mods is essential as its the ultimate playground for all kinds of driving. ANS2 is also a great all rounder to start with. ACC is more specialised but offers some great racing and iRacing is great for simulating the emotional highs and lows of real racing. I don't play much else other than the above these days.

      I got my wheel (MOZA R9, CRP Pedals and CS Wheel) and rig about a week ago, added a reverb G2 VR headset to the list a couple of days ago. Been racing alot of Iracing in the past but with the new rig I figured I'd try Iracing and Lord is that game addictive (done 70 races in total in like 10 days). With or without VR, Iracing will be my go to sim for the foreseeing future. On the side I run AMS2 as second most played and after that Asetto Corsa. Tomorrow my next upgrade will be in, a shifter + Ebrake. Can't wait!
      My biggest worry when spending all that money was that I maybe got bored with it within a couple of days, the opposite happened, can't seem to stop racing and improving.. 🤣🤣

    i would call that a "race Incident" ! You had a bit more track to the right in the beginning, but then he did turn in to the corner, and should have understod that a car was beside him after what happend.

    Great vid as always sir but I really wish iRacing would use the classic layout at this track more often - it is so much better in slow cars.

    The slight contact prior wasn't enough to upset by the looks of his cockpit view. I'd say he's got incident responsibility because he tried to close the door while you were there. He knows you're coming up fast and on the right side, whether there was a call right or not better to play it safe and leave room, he didn't.

  • @solorunner6391

    After seeing all the replays of your incident with Matt, then seeing the one replay of Matt's incident up the front straight at 22:02 where he just pushes the green car off the circuit, it looks to me like his spacial awareness is just not there. Maybe he's running a single screen, doesn't have mirrors on, or his Bitchin Bob (the spotter voiceover) isn't working. You did nothing wrong.

    Kinda blown away no one noticed that he didnt brake at all before the corner, he initiated braking after you touched him. You can see him go full throttle again after the contact. I would be surprised if he could have pulled that off without sliding, even if there had been no contact. You lost a little stability and the wheel did pull left into him.

  • @neilpeel59
    @neilpeel59 2 года назад

    He messed up the corner, lost loads of speed then took a bit of a desperate move to block you coming through. That's racing. BTW you visuals look amazing. Worth watching for that alone and I wish other sim racing content creators would take a leaf out of your book!

  • @douglasingram8881
    @douglasingram8881 2 года назад

    Classic case of not simply moving over after he messed up for the good of the race. Had he let you through easier, you was compromised anyway being over on the inside, you would have had to turn much tighter to make to corner, he would have had the momentum to then catch you again, and we would have seen a fantastic battle.

    Hey Will Happy New Year, good to see you back at it.
    If I was in his shoes I new I stuffed up, and would expect you to take advantage, knowing I had lost heaps of speed and try to keep you at bay, but also knowing I needed to get back up to speed as much a posible for the next two corners. If he had a spotter acvtive (assume he would) he would of known you were there. I would of then opened up my steering giving you room and hope that I can regain more speed than you going into the next few corners. Your exit speed would be compromised as well.
    Looking at it from a race controler prospective I would have called it Racing incident.
    You probably were not up far enough, but he did not give you racing room. result he spun, if you spun same call.
    You saw a gap, its not racing if you drive around following each other.
    I dont think he left you room, It would of been a matter of compromise more to the right, no room for you, but loss of speed on exit for next corner for Him.
    All in all Racing incident. IMO

    Think 50/50. Like black7 said he did a bit of both. I don't think you was necessarily far enough alongside given how tight your line would have been to go through corner but at the same point other guy could've/should've given more room given you had your nose in there.
    He kind of did neither. Either move to inside so you have no choice or stay outside and have racing line give you room but probably carry more speed and probably get you back down the straight.
    We all been guilty of this in both instances I'm sure.

    That incident was in absolutely no way your fault. When he realized that he left the door open he tried to close you, but then it was already too late. I think he may have misjudged his own speed and didn't think you will come with such high pace.

  • @IISnakeyII

    I don't see that being your fault.. He left the inside open and even then you went full on brakes because you saw him drift a bit on the inside.. He then tapped your front left and spun.. He had lots of room to keep his original line and could had kept the battle going but.. Awesome win!

    I think the contact itself it's possibly a bit more your responsibility. But you were fair, you went on the brake earlier than he did so to be able to stay on the inside of the turn. So you can see your car becoming slightly slower than his but not enough to get out of the way when he turns.
    Also, he did the first mistake on the chicane and then his choice of being in the middle of the road didn't pay off. He knew by being on the outside would have allowed you to sneak into the inside, also he knew by choosing to be on the inside he would have allowed you to take the outside and get a better exit. But being right there were he was had put you in a tricky situation. If there's enough space a racer goes for it, but at the same time if the space is tiny you maximize the chance for contact.
