Hey Kyle/Thea! Not sure if this is deliberate or just yet to happen, but this video is private (for me at least).
Edit: Now fixed :)
@@jackmaguire8634 I saw the same thing, but it might've been a case of 'not making things public at the exact same second'.
Awesome. I think in the game that the RIG suit system Isaac uses also augments his strength somewhat. I want to say I remember reading that somewhere.
You weapons master is always here for smashing slicing goodness!!!
I hope you had that secured, with something other than a person holding the rope when prepping and cleaning the items.
I always imagined that Isaac would activate the magnetic function on his boots when he’s stomping to maximize the damage of his stomps
Yessssss!
exactly!!!
The only issue is Newton third law would mean without very good protection, it be killer on the feet.
This is a point I very much agree with. It also wonderfully fits with the rest of Isaac´s "weaponry" which isn´t actually weapons but maliciously malapplied miningequipment.
@@brendenhawley2225 Considering the alternative of not confirming the kill, I'll deal with bad feet pain.

Additional reminder: Isaac's suit is an exosuit. This would very likely amplify the stomping force, at least to a powerful enough degree to completely crush Necromorphs' corpses/limbs/whatnot.
EDIT: Ok, wasn't expecting to get THIS much traction. But thanks!
Also, these aren't normal "oh, I'll just snap that branch on the ground" stomps. They're "oh god this horrifying undead alien monster isn't nearly dead enough for me to stop killing it" stomps.
@@Amigo21189 Exactly.
Yeah, odd that isn't mentioned.
The intent of stomping something dead, the weight of the entire exosuit, and the squishiness of necromorphs all add up to the glorious display of gore.
What's odd though, is Isaac is capable of dismembering freshly killed and warm bodies WITHOUT his exosuit in Dead Space 2 in the intro. Man is a beast. I don't think they supply deadly equipment that amplifies ones physical strength to mentally unstable patients.
Not sure what would be more terrifying to hear in the depths of the Ishimura, the horrid screeching of a reanimated eldritch corpse, or the quiet gleeful giggling of a science man with his new gizmo.

This was great to demonstrate that Isaac could destroy necromorphs with his feet. I've always assumed that Captain Evil Stomper was using the magnet assists in his boots that he uses in zero-gravity segments of the game!
Smart
I've always been under the impression that said electromagnets were the canon explanation. Didn't realize it was even in question.
I was thinking - "Its probably exoskeleton that augments Isaak's strenght, right?" Turns out, its not even needed.
I was wondering if they were going to get into the electromagnetic boots, but it turns out that's not even necessary.
Thought it was both his boots and an exoskeleton
Considering they’re malformed corpses they’ll most likely be more brittle
this!
On the other hand they have been altered by a Clark tech artifact that can control mind, break thermodynamics and so on.
So I would not rule out them actually being superhumanly tough
Well the dark coagulated necromorphs are stronger but come apart just as easily in game
@@brendenhawley2225yeah i dont see why the marker cant make them more resilient but i think its more likely that the enhanced necros are more durable while regular variants are a little weaker
Yeah, literally. The way they transform is SUPER violent, so I imagine a lot of tendons and ligaments are pre-destroyed.
They only used 1/3 the potential stomping force of a normal human and didn't even account for the fact that his futuristic suit probably reinforces and strengthens what he can output by 150-200%.
who gives a shit
I doubt any normal person’s stomp is nearly as powerful. in mma promotions like pride head stomps are allowed and yet they don’t consistently result in ko not to mention tearing fleshes off and breaking skulls lol
@@ddg-fi5bp it's surprisingly easy to break a skull when you simply use something harder than a human arm or leg by itself and you don't even need full strength to do it, let alone a enhanced amount.
I always imagined that Isaac was activating his magnetic boots as part of the stomp - since he uses them in zero-g. Probably would help make the stomps stronger, and more accurate too. :)
I was thinking the Rig suit was enhancing Isaacs natural strength, but your thought of the magnetized parts makes sense to me lol nice
@@KevinPGrantwell to be honest, Isaac has to be naturally strong to wear his Engineering suit, especially during the whole game while performing strenuous tasks and moving constantly. I would imagine the weight, plus his natural strength, plus the fight or flight chemicals running through him, it’s only natural at this point to assume his stomps would literally explode limbs.
@@djtrac3r935 Exos, don't forget them.
@@Imperial_Lizardgirl what?
I think this is the logic the developers went with. Isaac is just a regular worker and just utilizes the tools. He is always using the magnetic force to stay in the ground and I thought it was obvious that the stomp came from that. :D
The force may be a little higher because in game lore suggests that Issac isn't just stomping but lifting his foot and then turning on the EVA maglocks. So he could be getting a little more with some magnetic acceleration.
could you maybe source the "in-game lore" part? I never read anything about that
Cool.
He also slaps their limbs off, so I think it is just his exosuit being a bad bitch
It was around the arm breaking stage he realised Thea didn't build a safety mechanism into the stomp-O-matic
I was on the edge of my seat anytime he was putting something underneath it lol
Following Riddle's logic, Kyle's thumbnail is misleading into making us think that he's actually in the video game Dead Space and that Isaac is about to stomp on him. Lmao.
Great vid as always Kyle.
Ah you beat me to it almost verbatim
@@C0365086 lol my bad.
I have to delete my comment now. You beat me to it 😂
😂 spot on!
I wanted to make this comment but kudos for making it first.
I remember the devs of Dead Space talking about how Isaac will also engage the magnetic plates in his boots while he stomps to get even more force, so your already-brutal findings show what he can do even WITHOUT the magnets, which is absolutely WILD.
Isaac is a beast. An absolute menace.
I never understood how fashion works and what works well together and what doesn't, but what i can say:
Her outfit looks insanely cool and Kyle as our lovable mad scientist is always a pleasure.
Also:
Dead Space stomp is on par with the Bolter shots from the Warhammer 40k Space Marine game. Both are super satisfying.
My mind jumped to a Dead Space/Warhammer crossover in the style of Bayonetta with Battle Brother Isaiah Clarke using his Bolter-Boots to stomp out Nurglemorph Daemons.
@@l0rf That would be an insane crossover. The Warhammer + Bayonetta universe alone would be super weird :D
All the best parts of Mythbusters.
High praise!
I can't believe how trusting everybody is putting their hands under a stomp crusher
Edit: Also Isaac's boots were magnetic, so increasing force when you get closer to hull...
Doesn't Isaac have magnetic boots? I think I remember him having magnetic boots.
That could easily add a ton of force to his stomps, as long as the thing being stomped has a metal surface under it.
you are correct he uses magnetic boots that allow him to pretty much stick to any metal surface when they activate. They are made out of the same stuff used for gravity plates, pretty much Isaacs boots are made of the same stuff that use for simulate earth gravity on space stations and spaceships. So if I was a betting man Isaac pretty much turns on those boots when he stomps, giving the corps a good taste gravity crushing bone and flesh against a metal object.
See my concern isn’t if Issac could generate that much force, it’s more of a concern of if his legs could take it.
After all, if Issac could stomp hard enough to totally shatter bones, wouldn’t his own bones be in danger of at least minor fractures?
@@jonathanhancock470I think his exosuit just cushions the impact on his body I mean I’d imagine that’s what they’d do to increase his durability as an engineer so he doesn’t majorly injure himself on a ship
He had that force prior to getting his suit in the beginning of second and third game. Let’s be honest it’s just game physics.
@@dublk5593: Ah, game physics. As the good meme says "It just works."
This is the kind of crap MythBusters would have been all over back in the day. Great to see Kyle and Thea keeping that flavour of science content alive.
A lot of people mentioned Issac 's boots are electro-magnetic for 0G walking. But consider this:
Most of these people live in space with videogame artificial gravitt. So they may have some bone mass loss. Not only that, necromorph probably further reduced bone mass at skull and some places to grow those "arm blades"
Today I learned that Kyle is suspiciously good at playing the nerd/mad scientist part
This reminds me of the missed opportunity I've wanted to see in a zombie episode of mythbusters which is I wanted to know how different weapons and attack types that you normally see on zombie shows like The walking Dead would be effective against a zombie and doing it by making human heads made out of humanely deceased pigs and then having them in different states of decay to see if the rate of decomposition would increase or decrease a weapon or an attack types effectiveness. Other one is that could the type of zombie fights that you see in such films and TV shows is actually doable, although we probably have a lot more boring data on that based on human bites.
Needless to say, the amount of pressure on issac's boots just barely exceeds the amount of pressure put by my chinese parents to me on daily basis
Thea always has amazing style that perfectly compliments her super villain construction projects.
Other factors I've seen mentioned before to account for Isaac's ability to stomp necromorph corpses to pieces, which may be difficult to account for here, are that his boots have gravity locks on them which are intended to keep you from floating away off the hull of a ship, but could also be engaged to increase stomp force; as well as that the necromorphs are being held together in part by marker signal, and once the local marker deems to combat effectiveness of a necromorph negligible then it stops holding them together, giving them a resistance more in line with a decaying corpse than a living person.
All the same, fun video.
I love kyles giggle as he walks away from the tomatoes
I love Kyle's borderline Peter Griffin giggle as they're about to smash the tomatoes.
I thought it was pretty obvious from the very first paper target that there were going to be some serious issues in the results wrt real boots and non-flat objects. I would imagine the boot tread have some flex at those pressures as well. Would have been interesting maybe to lay the target paper over an inverted boot tread? Edit: also, a proper stomp I would think tends to concentrate around the heel as well
ye, it's basically behaving the same way a knife does: focusing force into a very small area to achieve extremely high pressure. Completely different from a blunt force impact
I'd noticed after the first plate struck there were entirely too many high spots that should/could have been ground down with a flap disc so they could have gotten a slightly better reading; because as we all know, pressure is force over a surface area. It's fine, but like you'd mentioned it would've provided a much better metric. I think that the initial plate & boot are at most 20lbs.
Edit: I did not mention that they had also noticed the surface being uneven, as they had mentioned "up to 40,000 psi in *some* parts of the apparatus"
I would safely assume that his boots would have electromagnets since he's a spacewalking engineer so...the stomp is devastating no matter what😂
8:04 kyle laughing like a complete maniac and ot sounds so sincere
As we all know well enough that Isaac with his boot can apply enough Force to crush fleshy body parts, but it is his scream every time he stomps in which demolishes any kind of necromorphic recovery. Isaac's stomp applies so much force that they spew out money, health, or ammo from the disfigured corpse.
I can only hope there were off camera safety practices taking place because its concerning me how high she raised that shoe for kyle to put the paper/objects underneath, if that thing hit your fingers you would be in for a VERY unpleasant day.
Yeahhhh really hoping there was some kind of lock on that rope. Oof.
The safety practice adopted was not releasing the weight when your finger was underneath it. Pretty effective 😂
Yeah, that sounds like an effective way to go to bed with less fingers than you woke up with.
@@Shadow__133 pretty effective until it isnt
@@killingtimeitself Normal focused people usually don't make such mistakes, and she was not holding the rope with just her fingers, while Kyle was putting in the stuff she looped the cord around her elbow.
Then again I always remember youtube comments exists and they don't dissapoint.
Thea is so cool. Love seeing her back on the channel!
I feel like if I had a rig on and amped up on adrenaline and "contraband" on the ishimura, I feel I could stomp through a brute at minimum, this is why I lift
I honestly don't know if leg strength would play into this or not depending on the weight of the boots and force of gravity ie how high you lift your leg essentially. Most of the leg strength is based on moving weight forward. But there's nothing wrong with having a little extra strength behind the stomp. Glad to hear you pump iron. Stick with it man.
Not enough people do these days. Sorry I wrote you a whole paragraph for no real reason, other then to cheer you on bud. Best of luck to you man
That second accidental stomp you did is more accurate, because it usually takes more than one stomp, if not out of necessity out of absolute panic😂
I don't play most of the games, but I love watching you science the hell out of them.
This is helping to fill the Mythbusters hole in my content consumption
Okay, this takes 'curb stomping' to a whole new level.
Are we sure that Isaac's suits don't have powered exoskeletons built in? You know, to help carrying heavy things, ordinarily. And in this instance, using it to power up his stomping
The C.E.C. would never put such expensive equipment in an Engineering RIG. Hell, Isaac can only have about 2 minutes of oxygen in his suit before suffocating, and that's after messing with his suit.
The equipment in Dead Space is cheaply made, Isaac even remarks at it in the remake when running out of ammo.
For reference, Isaac has gravity boots, which aren't standard gear. They're slipped onto his boots in all his suit lvls, his zero-g back thrusters are also additional other engineers dont have them when you look at corpses.
Isaac is a ships system specialist, he specifically repairs ships, so he's geared up for space walks and even then he still has the cheapest gear from C.E.C.
Kyle Hill, you mad lad! Amazing video as always. Though... was there safety latching on the Necromorph Stomper 5000? Was crazy nervewracking. Might be where some of the lawsuits are coming from. Little Timmy-morph can grow apendages only so fast!
Awesome to see you do experiments like this. I like to think that the necros are so extra squishy due to their recent metamorphosis, their muscles and even bones have gotten reshaped recently after all.
Oh, a Thea Ulrich collab? On a scale of 10 to 10 how endangered are we watching this from a safe distance?
Not nearly as dangerous as it was putting your hand under that contraption that seemed to only be secured by the human holding the tension up 😬 boy do I hope there was a lock we just didn't see!
What a fun experiment omg. It was great seeing them giggle like maniacs during testing. I just played some of the original Dead Space today, crazy perfect timing!
Kyle you're an educative and fun person.
The thing to remember is that Isaac wears space ready armor, has an enhanced body due to procedures from the sci-fi setting, and is putting all his weight that he can behind each stomp. I don't doubt he could crush skulls and limbs especially with how pumped up he is throughout the games
There's reference about this body enhancements procedure?
Yeah, where have you seen him having an enhanced body? There's been nothing implied that the humans in the Dead Space universe are any stronger or durable due to their medical treatments. The only thing I could reckon is that the people in his time are healthier at older ages than they are in our time, so Isaac might physically still be somewhere around his prime in terms of fitness despite being mid-40s.
With how old the RIG system is according to DS3, I imagine they do have forms of strength enhancement with that much time of refinement, especially when applied to heavy duty mining and combat suits throughout the series.
Edit: Dead Space's prosthetic tech seems capable of much, but all we've really seen has been more about 1 to 1 replacement rather than Deus Ex like augments.
I love the Mythbusters style of this episode!! Thanks for this, was extremely entertained!
10:21 Kyle: Disgusted, Thea, completely fascinated: "That is mangled!" I love her😂!
I can imagine Isaac may be engaging the magnets in his boots to increase the power of each stomp
Awesome work guys, I will say that I believe a factor you did not consider (not that Isaac needs any more advantages in your test) is that is boots are magnetized. In Zero G areas he is seen walking on any surface using the boots magnetic properties as well as to help him land during a zero g jump. I personally believe when he stomps he re-engages the boots magnets to give himself more stomp power. But hey, that’s just my head-canon anyway. Great work on the props by the way!
Duke Nukem : "I'm an equal opportunity ass kicker."
Issac Clarle: "Uuuughhh! AAAARGH!"
what an amazing stomp-filled collab!
Considering that Isaac's suit also has some kind of (I assume) electromagnets for zero-g environments he could probably stomp even harder.
I was a little disappointed in the watermelon. Was expecting something more along the lines of what Gallagher would do.
Very fun video, Kyle! Really felt the mythbusters vibe on this one, but with that classic Kyle Hill touch
What a cool video and idea. Thea knocked it out of the park with the rig. It's both very cool and scientific. It gives you repeatability and adjustibility.
One question about what you said at 5:25. I am wondering how surface area and the distribution of the pressure comes into play. Would the pressure film give a different reading if the boot was landing flat, instead of on the edges, and distributing the pressure over a larger surface area? You did mention it briefly but I'm still confused why it doesn't matter.
...yes...yes he could. But thank you for demonstrating lol
Edit: " I don't think we can put this on RUclips, Kyle!"

There's also the factor of the faurly small contact point between a fairly round head and the very flat very hard metal floor.
If you were dropping the head with a perfectly fused contact so the force was evenly distributed you'd still be getting the small contact area between the skull and the floor.

Post Video Edit. You need to calculate the variable of Fear/Anger in the form of chemical supercharging with Adrenaline.
I mean, all nice and stuff, but why not put the boot on and stomp yourself? Stomping is not like dropping something, you lean into it putting your weight over it and strengthen your muscles to add to the velocity and force of it. The momentum itself can continue after most of the energy is spent and you push your foot through the uhm...object.
Serious risk of seriously f***ing up my ankle

@kylehill I was hoping for a collaboration with riddle or something at some point. I enjoy the animations and flashy stuff from riddle but I feel like your vids are more informative. Ty for answering me Kyle!
The suit makes the difference. If you stomped with a bare foot (ignoring pain and counter-impact), the curve of the stomper's sole can affect the pressure (force per unit area) imparted to the target. The pressure is no longer imparted parallel to gravity, so the angle away from vertical gives necessarily lower pressure.
The boot sole is flat with treads. The treads with their reduced surface area cause pressure to go up (P = f/a, and a becomes smaller, making P greater.

Hey kyle, in the first book of three body problem series, there is a scene in which the military uses strings of a strong nanomaterial in the Panama Canal to slice a cargo ship. In the book, the weight and speed of the ship is enough for it to pass through the trap and be cut like butter. Would it really happen?
I think Gentrified Jason Momoa is my favorite Kylescritpion so far.
Kyle is having too much fun and that's okay
Enjoyed this video! Thanks for making it
We do have to keep in mind that Necromorphs have greater muscle mass and bone density compared to normal humans, but considering the possible intricacies of Isaac's engineering exosuit and how they can alter the amount of physical damage he can dish out, I'd say this is very accurate video..and badass as fuck.
i love kyle's science goblin laugh at 7:54
I'd say that smashing apart a necromorph would be slightly easier than a human since while they create the extra appendages and such, they still seem to rapidly rot the body and make it overall weaker in structure. Isaac could also be activating the magnetic thingy on his boots to give the stomp more oomph, and since he is wearing an industrial engineering suit meant for harsh environments I'd say the stomp wouldn't injure his feet like it would normal ones.
I always thought that like zombies the flesh and bone are easier to moosh up. Also the gravity boots had something to do with the extra smashing power by using magnetics or just being heavy and the power suit being heavy.
I only have one remark about the boot - Isaac's boots are more angular, and have the sole raised higher than the outer edge of the boot - Making the boot essentially function a 'little' bit like an axe, due to the sharp edges. This would undoubtedly make the boots more effective at stomping through things. Then there's the whole aspect of the suit being an exoskeleton suit that assist in mining, heavy machinery engineering and other such things; As well as the setting having personal gravity-altering equipment, so Isaac might just flat out be a bit more dense than someone not wearing such a suit, and thus capable of applying even more force. Lord knows how the heck his bones survive it though.
Either way, great video. Mad scientist Kyle = best scientist.

Vicious; loved when the boot came down on the skull, v satisfying. Also, somewhat educational (but mostly brutally satisfying, ngl).
Nice video! and nice machine! but a little safety would have been great, I suggest a hoock to pin the stomper while is elevated
Paused and read what was visible from the abstract on the paper on stomping, that 9016 Newtons measurement was just the upper end of the mean peak male stomping force from the study's volunteers. Apparently jumping force was double the stomping force!
My takeaway: Don't stomp or jump on people unless you want to really hurt/kill them.
That demo was awesome. That skull pop was sweet
Dang, I love the fact that the Kyle Hill Cinematic/Scientific Universe is expanding with more characters and lore :)
Oof that skull got obliterated! 🤯 This was very fun to watch gr8 job!
This was so satisfying to watch.
I wonder how much PSI it would take to crush a demons skull by punching it, like the Doom Slayer.
Well, Isac had a techologic very heavy suit and he needed a machine to suit him up, so he probably weighted something like 250-300kg total with his suit on which explain the lack of jump and slow running, so it was more like a mech suit. Add that to his magnetic boots for increased final maximum acceleration and bam!
Great video, keep up the good work.
"Don't worry, this video is sponsored", says the madman.
