still waiting for a water cooled optiplex 🤔
M2
Lmafo
I wanna see this actually, make it happen Matt!
voltrox I don't think you know what custom water cooling is
Needs To Happen
Thank you Matt for doing this. I followed your last build to almost a T and I am extremely happy with it. Best thing, I spent less than $300 for everything. I had a 500gb SSD donated and receive a 3gb Zotac GTX 1060 for my birthday and put them into this system. Want After watching this, looks like i will be upgrading to the i7 and increasing my ram. Again, thank you for helping me get back into the realm of PC gaming. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your future videos.
Greg please say u went with a psu of 500watts or better lol
I am going to get a Optiplex with i7 2600/8GB almost for free , i am planning on going with GTX 1080 and TX 650m psu , because i saved a lot of money on CPU and stuff
YOTHISISYO I think a 1080 with an i7 2600 is a bit unbalanced. You can quietly buy a 1060 3gb or 1050 ti and save a lot of money
@@YOTHISISYO i wouldnt really pair an i7 2600 with a 1080. 1070 max not even
Michael sorry guys I was not able to get it. I think I will build a Ryzen 5 PC .
Hey guys! I wanted to say thanks for all of the game suggestions and I think I am going to purchase the following games for future pc testing:
Rainbow six siege, Rise of the tomb raider, doom, and far cry 5(Rip my bank account lol)
Also, I wanted to address some questions about the CPU choice. The optiplex 790 uses the intel Q65 chipset which does not support 3rd gen intel CPUs so the 3770/3770k was out of the question. While during my initial research I found that the 2600 was the best cpu this system/chipset supports, doing a little digging I just found that the 2700k should actually work in this system. With this being said, The 2700k is only 100mhz faster with boost clock and there is no way to overclock with this system so while the 2700k might have worked it would have cost much more for almost no performance benefit.
hope this clears things up and thanks for watching!
There's a free trial version of Doom on steam, you can use that. Also, I'm not too sure that people are still interested in ROTTR, and it's not exactly a great game for performance benchmarking. R6:S and Far Cry 5 would be pretty nice additions though, I'd like to see how FC5 pushes your systems :P
Tech By Matt I have a question, so there's an extra pcie 16x that runs on 4x, can you do sli or crossfire configuration on it?
Tech By Matt Does xtu work in ya Mobo? Cus stock z400 Mobo with w3690 i remember u can give an oc by making multiplier higher. I think It could fry Mobo And maybe PSU.
Try ark survival evolved. 😁
You should try TF2 It's free
your b roll shots are awesome, very high production values!
I love building out these Optiplex machines! I did one in the same case that you did, but repainted the inside of it black, added a nice tower CPU cooler and a fan at the front, and threw in an RX 560 and it was a pretty cool machine! I bought the Optiplex for $100 and the GPU FOR $40, and sold the rig for $250 after upgrades. Made a little bit of profit and had a blast modding the PC.
My personal rig is basically a super upgraded XPS 8300 with an i7 2600, 20gb of RAM, and a 750ti. Works fantastic and can handle editing for my RUclips channel. Great video!
just asking, for what do you need 20gb ram and why 20gb? :D
Unlimited chrome tabssssss!!!
did you know that chrome is using 13% more ram in the last update?
This pc really needs a better gpu, 1050ti is an option or 1060. But i think that u can find some used alternatives like 770
War Child more ram helps with rendering and video editing.
War Child I had 2x8gb from a really good deal I found on LetGo and 4x2gb came with the XPS 8300. I just switched in the 16gb of RAM because I figured why not, lol 😂 Plus it is a hugeee help when I am editing videos for RUclips.
I genuinely enjoy these kind of videos. :D
I got one recently with a 3rd gen i5 for $90!!! Threw in 8gb Ram and 750 and it’s all complete!!! Best budget pc I ever bought
Anonymous Linux Nerd just a cpu or entire pc?
hp z220 are pretty nice, got an i7 3770, 16 gb ram, 500W psu, 1 tb Hard drive. $175 on ebay. got a $50 rx 570 on ebay and a 120gb ssd for a total of about $250.
Your the reason I have a gaming pc man XD there I was a humble console playing thinking to my self “damn I really wish I could afford a pc” and then that’s where you came in! Thanks!
Never seen anything like it! Wow great job man, very original!
This video is very helpful. I recently got an optiplex and i loves it
My optiplex, PSU, and 1060 6gb should be here this week! I'm pumped to build one of these!
I guess we can call it the Ulti-Plex
Well done Matt.
These are great machines. I did something very similar with my rig. Bought a dell vostro 460. Came with an I5 2400, 4gb ddr3 and 1TB hd. Had a crummy hd6450 gpu installed.
I ditched the gpu, added 3 more 4gb sticks like you did.
I changed to the same I7 2600.
I had the same drive cage and had to mod it to put in an asus strix gtx 980 oc. Put in a Corsair 650w 80+ PSU, and I was off.
The machine rips, not excactly like a hardcore modern RGB gaming missle, but absolutely runs anything at 1080p ultra settings at 90-100 fps or more sometimes.
All in for $350 US.
Matt, in your gt 1030 Optiplex 790 build vid, what did you use To record your screen?
Great video! I upgraded my HP for gaming similarly with an i7 2600. You can get them for
Nice video Matt!
this is the sleeper PC we needed
That i7 is still an absolute beast !
IMO Games you really should have on hand for benchmarking these days for a good mix of popular and also graphicaly impressive titles would be:
GTA V
Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Witcher 3
Doom
Wolfenstein 2
Assasins Creed Origins
Project Cars 2
Far Cry 5
Battlefield 1
Rainbow Seige Six
I don't see Minecraft in the graphically impressive titles list.
if it can play pubg with 60fps+ in 1440p then it actually play anygame smothly in 1080p.
I watched this video already but i just got 3 of these for free! From my school! Keep up your good channel!
Building one of these, great video! Liked and subbed!
Great Video! I did the same thing last summer with a dell optiplex 7020. It came with an i5 4590 in it with 8gb of ram. I threw in a gtx 1060 3gb and another 8gb of ram with an EVGA 500w power supply. The total system price with was about $360. Runs everything at 1080p med/high settings 60+FPS. Pc gaming is cheaper than I thought it would be.
About to try to buy one of these for $40. You have inspired me.
I personally did something pretty similar to this. I bought an OptiPlex 3020 MT from eBay for £65 which included an i5-4590, 4GB DDR3 and 500GB HDD. I upgraded it by adding a second stick of 4GB RAM, totalling 8GB. The motherboard only has 2 RAM slots so I wasn't able to get anything more than this. I bought a GTX 1060 6GB to go with it and added a Corsair VS450 PSU to accommodate the extra power consumption. Overall it totaled out at about £220.
Ive already done this build its a nice start for gaming i think
An excellent video. Keep up the great content.
I did a Dell OptiPlex small form factor pc build like this for 1080p gaming, due to only able to fit a low profile graphics card I went with a 1050Ti LP and must say it performs nice for this use case.
My friend from Australia had bought a used Optiplex, it’s on of the smallest models, it had an i5 and 1x 8gb stick already, So he just bought a 1060 and just slam it in.Plays CSGO All medium settings at 140fps and above
Good video keep them coming I love your videos
Exactly what i did, bought old lenovo oem with 2400s, and plugged in a 1060 and 2600, it was kinda worth it
Nice job on rebuilding 990
Wow, an actually impressive Optiplex
I just removed the side panel latch to make room for a larger power supply and used some black electrical tape to hold the side panel in place.
hi... great videos. very infomative. whats your take on the Hp Pro Desk? saw one with a 4th gen core i5 but some people are speaking negatively over the HP build. is it wiser to stick to the Optiplex builds? thanks
Yeah I scored an optiplex 990 mt with an i7 2600 with 16gb ram and a 1tb hdd for $120! I put a 120gb ssd in that I got on sale for $22 on newegg and an rx460. It's a surprisingly good system.
You got urself a great rig for a modest investment! I am awaiting my SFF optiplex to arrive…183.00 on newegg…Im not a gamer, Im a web surfer..I like a super fast web experience with a strong chip and lots of ram and an ssd….mine is 9020 model with 4th gen i7…i chose this over the 2nd gen ones becuz it gets you usb3 ports, full sata 3 speeds on the ssds instead of sata2 and faster ram speeds, 1600 or 1866mhz vs 1333mhz… . we have a dell inspiron 620, that was upgraded similiar to urs…it had the i3 and i put a 2600 i7 in there…man what a beast! it was also my 1st i7 desktop and yeah, its an older chip but a very strong one, even today…also did 16 gb ram and powersupply, though really, if ur Not adding strong video cards, the dell supply is likely fine to handle just the cpu upgrade alone..
I just happen to get a Optiplex recently and I want to upgrade however I know nothing about building computers, I’ve been watching a lot of videos
Thanks for the presentation. I have Dell OptiPlex 9010 MT 3rd Gen Quad Core i5-3570
the graphics card is integrated 8 Gigabite
I think it is the same is yours..
My question, If I buy a graphic card 2 or 4, would this enhance the performance
On the other hand, does the computer has wifi?
I got my optiplex with an i5, 8gb of ram and a windows key for about $70, and my gtx 1050TI cost about $100 off ebay. For about $170, you get a pretty solid gaming PC. If anybody is looking for a budget gaming PC, then you need to look into building an optiplex, these things are a great value.
Thanks for the good info.
I just did 2 Optiplex 990's with i7 2600, one has gtx 1050ti, the other gtx 970. Solid budget setup for sure, just add a decent PSU and SSD, it is a very compact design. But for the Gtx 970, I had to move the HDD cage up so the 970 would fit, just a matter of drilling out about 5 rivets and cable tie it in the new position, ends up nicer than it sounds. I got the Optiplex 990's for $200 Australian, which is a pretty good price!
GPEART1
Can u share pictures for this modifications ?
i have a 990 optiplex with i7 2600, 24gb ram 1333, ssd boot, 4tb hdd, asus 1660 6gb, 650w psu. i love it.
Excellent Video. Can't wait to build my own. my build will be a mid tower dell optiplex 7010, (i7-3770, zotac gtx 1070 ti [mini], with 16gb of ram).
🤓 Decent, now lets move it all over to X58 & X79 workstation builds, yay! 🚤🚤😍🚩
I made same mod to Optiplex 9020 i7 4770 with gtx1060 , and i didn’t change the power supply, it was a great budget built, and say goodbye for custom rigs which doesn’t deserve the extra money.
Good to know this one works XD, I'm planning to put Rx 580 on my dell optiplex 9020, will it work?
Jessie Flores
Yes, but you need to change the power supply, because RX580 draws more power, and i suggest to go with gtx cards if you want to upgrade dell pc, it’s more reliable.
@@jessieflores5653 no it wont boot since the rx580 only supports uefi bios and these types of old dell,hp, asus pc only have a legacy bios
@@Oreo.zxo_ waht about rx 570 4 gb bulk, is it going to work with my optiplex 3020 i5 4590
@@JakuDesu same thing goes unfortunatly (not gonna boot)
You can still get NVMe drives to work in older PCs using an M.2 to PCIe adapter and setting the system to boot to a USB that has a bootloader with NVMe drivers, such as Clover for Hackintoshes
Worked beautifully in my old Nehalem rig that predates Sandybridge
Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I will look into it.
hmm i just upgraded a optiplex 990. i bought it with 16gb of ram, i7 2600 and a 120gb ssd for $80. i got whole gaming PC for free from a friend. but i swapped some parts over like the 2TB hard drive, the 2 250gb ssd's the 600W PSU,this huge cpu cooler, and a GTX 1060 6GB. the processor for sure out preforms the one from my friends old build. and im happy with the setup since i only paid $80.
Man you showed me I can do a great stuff with my pc
Great content!
I've got a 990 MT with pretty much the same specs you put in this one. Except I've only got 8gb ram, 500w psu, and a 1050ti. Runs like butter regardless.
That's...not "pretty much the same specs". A 1050ti is significantly slower than a 1070ti, and while 8GB ram is the minimum, 16 would help a lot for AAA gaming.
An SSD isn't 'overkill' , it's a prudent addition to any system.
Thanks Matt. I have the same PC and have upgraded it similar. Just don't have the Graphics Card yet. Got my eye on a secondhand ITX GTX 960.
Awesome LSGenesis. Ended up being a different GTX 960. The 2gb Strix one. For what I've spent on this system I'm very happy.
Wow this was Epic! But maybe a little bit longer on benchmarks with afterburner enabled. I like to see benchmarks lol.
Awesome video! Would be great to see CPU core and GPU utilization rates to see who is bottlenecking who?
I got a Dell T7500 workstation for around $200 and upgraded the X5620 to X5670 xeon and an RX470. I wonder if I could benefit from a 1070ti or even 1080ti if want to play at 4k! The X5670 has same multiscore performance as the I7 2600 but as it has 6C12T, the single core performance is lower and most games are optimized for 4C?
I just upgraded a XE2 to full gaming mode with an old R9 290X Windforce with a bit of chassis modification. Corsair RM650X fits by the whiskers hair. Anything bigger won't fit.
So, Matt...How's that power saving mode going for you? Been able to boot your computer with a monitor lately?
Hey what optiplex model did you use nice vid btw.
I have a small form factor version of this optiplex 790 model.
i7 2600k
DDR3 currently 20gb @1600mhz(suspect with the latest bios it it will take 32gb)
Gtx1050ti (low profile)
250gb Samsung Pro ssd
500gb mass storage (for now)
And added rgb lighting behind the front panel. Which unclipps from thr front of the case.
Rick M Cross same here except I’m running an i5 with 16gb of ram
im taking an optiplex 390 and throwing it in a new case with an rx460 or 750ti/760 havent decided yet. Only issue im having with it is dell proprietary connectors and the popups when i turn it on
Just did something very similar with an HP Z210 workstation that I got for peanuts. i7 2600, 16gb and a GTX 950 all for under $200 and it eats practically everything I've thrown at it.
The Optiplex 7010 mt can handle 32 gb of ddr3 1600 ram (4 x 8 gb)
OverkillDell inc.
Amazing GPu
I just had an idea after rewatching this video about putting an NVME SSD into an Optiplex PC. Well it does have 4 expansion slots so would it be possible to use a PCIE card adapter and use that to isntall the M.2 NVME SSD? It would be cool to test the differences in that vs a normal NVME SSD installation and see if there are any bottlenecks. Not sure if those old motherboards could handle it. It would also be awesome to mod the case to allow you to install or mod a radiator for the CPU as well as maybe water cool the graphics card but I really like this sleeper build and am tempted to try my own one day!
Keep up the great work!!
Probably work, benefit would be in improvement with startup and game loads!
I got an optiplex (very similar model) as well, i wanted to know hot the exhaust system managed the extra heat from the video card....
Nice filmin i lov wut u do
Hey Matt thanks for the video I learned a bunch from it. My Dell Inspiron 15s laptops motherboard just died on me and I needed something cheap ASAP. So I found this exact model with 8gb an i5 and 500gb hdd. It also came with windows 10 pro. It only cost me $97 with free shipping. What do you think I should do with my old laptop? Maybe use parts to upgrade this optiplex 790? It has a 1tb hdd on it that I can maybe add to the desktop somehow but I’m afraid the laptop messed up cause I installed this usb obd2 software used to program my project car. I’d be grateful for any tips or recommendations, thank you
This is exactly what I’m doing I just out in a new graphics card and I’m a month I’m going to upgrade the cpu
i used MSI GTX 1060 AERO ITX 6GB OC, almost half the price and works very well
I have a question : You said that you just put windows on the SSD, do you not need to install drivers at all, or just the GPU drivers or is there dell drivers available on their website ??? Next time you do a prebuilt upgrade video, can you go more in depth about the process like how you go about deal hunting, drivers and windows, more exact descriptions of the settings the games are on ect.
Jesus crist this thing is a beast!
Love your vids. New sub😊
I’ll take 2 lol. love your videos man. Doing any giveaways soon?
this system does support NVMe. I have the Optiplex 990 which is basically the same system. I put a SSD card in the PCIe x4 slot and added the NVMe ssd to it. You can't boot from it. I have a SATA ssd that I boot from but my games are installed on the NVMe drive.
I just bought a used optiplex 7010 i7 3770..do you know if pci Express 3.0 graphic card will work?
Just finished my fully decked out 9010 MT with a 3770K, 2060 Super and 32GB RAM
Using a fx 4100 from 2012 and recently upgraded my gpu to rx 570...
Really satisfied with the performance I'm getting...
And test apex legends in ur next videos...
A good sleeper build
I order a Dell Optiplex 7010 gonna be fun upgrade it and see how performence will be
Ive got this computer sitting in my shed.I also have an extra gtx 970 I could use with it, its got a 500watt antec psu which might now work though
I'm buying a dell optilex 790 for around 150$ and is it gonna be good enough if I only upgrade the the video card because the CPU is i5 2400 which I heard is still a really good CPU today, and the gpu i'm adding in the pc is "evga gtx 750ti' so is this good enough to game or is it good enough for handling other advanced games?
I love this case.. would it be possible to upgrade the mobo.
I also have a question. What is the max length for the graphics card you can put in there without interfering with the Sata ports? I have 2 for HDD and 1 for the ODD?
My office rig is a precision T3400. With fx 3700
Nice Matt, I'm def one those who were curious about maxing these old machines out! Although yea, you def need to work on the game selection. E-Sports games hardly show off this rig tbh, missed opportunity there! You need to make it sweat with some high fidelity games, maybe like FC5, Witcher 3 etc, more demanding titles anyways! Good vid though :-)
What is the performance difference when still using a gtx 1070 but going from the core i7 2600 to the core i5 2400? I can get a gtx 1070, a core i5 2400, a new power supply and another 4gb stick of ram for $350
I just build my custom Dell Optiplex 9020 MT overkill with 32Gb.DDR3 12800 and using Sapphire Radeon dual cooling R7 265 2Gb. with an upgraded cpu from i5-2500 to the i7-4690K and along with a 1TB WB 7200rpm HDD with SATA III and 650 Watt PSU 80+ Gold Certified I got all this done for under $400 including the tower.
I own a Dell optiplex 790mt with i7 2600. Has 1tb HDD and 16gb of ram. What graphics card would you recommend if money isn't a issue? I am leaning towards a gtx1070TI but I am unsure if it will be overkill?
i built my son a rig similiar to yours, his is a optiplex 3020 which came with a i5 4570 and 8gb or ram, i put in a i7 4790 and a 16gb of ram and a 1060 6gb with a 600 evga bt psu, 500gb samsung ssd and he loves it
I have a optiplex 390 with a i7 2600, gtx 1070 ti, 16 gb ram. 1 TB SSD, AND A ULTRAWIDE MONITOR WITH GSYNC. THAT DEFINES OVERKILL.
Where do you find what CPU the motherboard will support? (As long as the LGA is the same will it work?) I’ve an OptiPlex 3020 with an i3 4160 LGA 1150.
Do you think it's doable to upgrade a Dell XE2 MT chassis (almost identical case as yours) with an 8th gen Gigabyte MB, I-7 8700, ddr4 ram, Noctua NH-D9L air cooler, 550W PSU, front fan with fan cutout, and the same 1060 gpu? So basically just using the Dell for a case which I like. Thanks
Hi can I make a recommendation Fraps is good for FPS counting but MSI afterburner be better for FPS and CPU and GPU load to see how much more to push it
do u think a hp pro desk 400 g3 can upgrade to a gaming pc?
I have two similar builds with i5 2400 and I popped the rivets on the drive bay and mounted the harddrive in the floppy drive slot, so I can use the two rx580 I had sitting around. Simple moods like this would be helpful to your viewers but obviously my systems are unbalanced and deserve i7 2600 cpus to correctly match the performance.
I have a question, will the GTX 1080 run on a Corsair CX550M? Just wondering because your using a 450w power supply with no issues with the 1070 ti which has the same tdp.
You might still be able to fit that 850W PSU in, you would just need to take out the motherboard first and slide the PSU up into where it needs to go. I speak from experience; I'm running an EVGA 650 GS in my Optiplex 790 and that's how I got it in. Alternatively, you could just use a dremel to cut off part of the lock for the side panel if you want.
Hey Matt doing a 1020 optiplex and looking to get the max out of it, what would you suggest?
did a similar thing to my Dell. changed to i52500k, upped the ram to 32gb with four 8gb kingston, 600w psu, and a 480gb samsung SSD.
but my best gpu is only a gt 1030.. >
Way to go on the content
