This looks like a really amazing trip! I've always wanted to travel across Russia and into China. I also like how you were very honest about your experiences while still respecting everything.
Thank you for sharing your journey! I'm sorry for the racial discrimination you went through, wish people were nicer.
Really enjoyable video. The music at 7:45 gave me goosebumps.
The music is fantastic 👍
Dope video, love the throat singing
Surprised you saw fit to comment on the toilet on the Russian train. In the UK more modern carriages have holding tanks for the waste but there are still 500 carriages where the spoil goes straight to the track.
No toilet paper for three days. Don't tell me you travelled without packing your own toilet paper? For anyone else travelling a small disc of thick vinyl or a squash ball helps with all the basins that don't have plugs.
Great video, thanks! Music is too loud compared to when you are feeding us info.
I always travel with a roll of tp and a few plastic bags. Really good to always have
Don't care about your music list how much did it cost
Russian soldier at 4:40 almost eats the pavement... lol represents the true level of their military pretty accurately.
impressive impressive impressive
Did a very similar trip in 2017...Best trip of my life
Hi Shonak, Bravo !!!
Does separate visa, other travel documents needed for all countrries covered ? Any specific problem in getting those for any country.
Will u pl. elaborate on availability of Asian Veg /Continantal Food. Does budget lodging or share family apartments available in Moscow &
Beijing. Train Bookings & mode of payment for each segment.
Hi Balwant,
- Yes, separate visas needed for all of Russia, Mongolia and China. You will need to go to your local embassy - it can take up to 4 weeks to get all of the visas. No problems if you go with an agent, which I recommend
- Veg food isn't an issue. I'm vegan and managed to communicate my dietary needs to people who were always prepared to help. The 'Happy Cow' app was a lifesaver, and you can get a book called a 'Vegetarian passport' which translates your needs into most worldwide languages
- Yes you can get budget lodging in Moscow, I stayed at a hostel called 'Sputnik' for a very reasonable fee.
- All trains to Beijing I booked 2 months in advance of leaving; onward travel through China should ideally be booked in advance too as demand can be extremely high (take a look at P2 and you'll see the consequence of not booking overnight train journeys in advance)

how much was total cost includes all trains and food and visas ?
thanx
How long would it take if you went from the uk to bejing without staying in hotels?
Planning on doing something similar with my daughter. The second you said Moscow was a "mixed experience", I automatically thought about racism as its my main concern regarding travel in Russia. There's so much conflicting information. Western news media shows it to a racist hooligans paradise. Russians say it isn't so and it has more to do with the Caucasus and the novelty of non-white people in general in Russia.
I know its never nice to relive the moments that hurt us, but would you care to elaborate on your experience with racial discrimination in Moscow to serve as a primer for others planning to undergo such a trip?
Hi Zara, thanks for your comment.I had the same reservations as you before going, but am happy to say that this experience of racism started and ended in Moscow. Outside of the city - especially on the train - I met some of the warmest people and I'd travel back in a heartbeat. The racism is over-exaggerated in western media and you'll be fine in Moscow if you take regular travel precautions and stick to the tourist areas. I was perhaps a bit unlucky but it wasn't more than a few dirty words while sitting on a boat, and also someone trying to snatch my backpack when I arrived (although I don't think this was racially motivated).
@@shonaknathwani5181 Thank you Shonak. We were planning to go to Odessa, Ukraine or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for a month or so to learn Russian. My daughter plays the flute and has taken a real liking to Soviet-era ensemble music which led her to become a Russophile of sorts. Combine that with her interest in history and the one city she wants to see most in Russia is Volgograd. Its most probable we would have to transit in and out of Moscow or St. Pete at some point depending on our itinerary
Like you, we were also planning on using the Platzkart class for long distance train travel.
Thanks for the tips. I really enjoyed watching your videos.
Was it expensive?
What'd the story with the visa I'm Irish so the process would be similar
Good
