    Just got a NB2 in SpineTek, great board with heaps of pop in SpineTek. I had the Captain Fin Dane Reynolds fins as a thruster and didn’t really enjoy it. I then put some Futures P8 Pivot fins in and it completely transformed the board in smaller surf. I thought it wasn’t going to work with the wider tail and was going to be too loose but it was a perfect balance for me. I highly recommend.

    Hi Craig. Nice review. The Neckbeard2 and the Rocket wide seem to be pitched at similar surf conditions, though they look like very different boards. How would you compare the Neckbeard 2 to the Rocket wide as Sydney summer boards?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  6 лет назад

      Roger Pye thanks! I think I’d be going the NB2 over the RW. I liked the RW, but felt it needed more of a wave to get going, where the NB2 seems to perform in that lower wave range, while still handling up to 4-5ft. If you can get it in Spinetek too, I reckon summer will be looking pretty good 🤙

      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +4

      Rick Bondservant hey! They are both very different boards so comparing them is hard.
      If I wanted one board for everything, then I’d pick the Cymatic. If I wanted a board to for 1-4ft waves that is super capable of high performance surfing and making the most of junk, then it’d be the NB2! 🤙

    I surf regularly a CI 5 8" 29.3L PU OG Pod as my go to board from tiny to up to well overhead as long as its not barreling too hard it works well and is super responsive both in doing airs and holding the rail in big turns/gouges, I absolutely love that board. I surf a 5 9" 29L PU Quiver Killer whenever I am surfing reef or powerful surf up to double overhead and holds well without sacrificing drive. I am trying to find that board that fits in the middle between these 2 boards. I have a 5 9" 29L PU Psycho Killer and it works ok but doesn't seem to have that drive to get around sections, feels a little slow unless there is a decent amount of push. I have tried a lot of CI's (Rubble, Fever, BlacknWhite, #4,black n white) and none fit the bill. Can you give me your opinion. I have been looking at the Uber driver, Voodoo child, NB2, and some others so far and am open to suggestions. I want that middle board I buy to fit into the family of boards I love to use and work well. I live near Ventura, CA. I surf pretty neutral footed, like to have a fast board that holds in a vertical turn well but not too much where I can't slide the tail out off the top or punt an air. I want it to be able to hold in critical sections but do what I want. haha the magic board. Thanks for your insight

      Hey! I just saw this, sorry for the no response! A board between a Pod and a Quiver Killer, that's a tough one as they both seem fairly similar in my eyes... Have you checked out a NB2 yet?

    Heya! First up, thanks for offering all the reviews. I am writing to get your take on sizing the NB2. It will be my daily driver with the DFR for heavier, bigger, hollower days. I am 183cm, 96kg, advanced, fit, 35yrs. And looking to order a custom NB2 at 5'9 or 5'10 with 31.8L of volume because stock sizes in this model are not the best for me. If I go the 5'9 it will be 2 9/16 thick and if I go the 5'10 it will be 2 1/2 thick. Do you feel the NB2 would perform better being slightly shorter and thicker or slightly longer and thinner? I want it to be as high performance as possible and fun. The 5'9 will have a shorter rail line but the 5'10s foil will feel closer to a standard shortboard. Hmmm. Your insight and thoughts about sizing the NB2 relative to my size and experience etc would be much appreciated mate. Cheers and Happy New Year!

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      Hey! Sorry just saw this... Gees, thats a tough one, and i'd love to give you some direct advice but it's pretty tough without picking one up and feeling it. Personally i think i'd want to keep it shorter, i'm 5'10.5 and i rode the 5'8 as i grabbed a stock one, but if i ordered a custom I'd probably even go 5'7 and widen it out and thicken it up... especially as i'm generally surfing waves in the knee to shoulder high range and pretty average conditions. Hope that helps!

    • @coreymiddleton1798
      @coreymiddleton1798 5 лет назад +3

      Dude, you're a bit under volume at 31.8L for 96kg. Ballpark rule of thumb 0.34 - 0.35L per kg. For example:Parko rides 0.35L/kg at 80Kg = 28LMick Fanning rides slightly more than 0.35L/kg at 75Kg = 26.5LAt 96kg you're looking at 32.6 - 33.6L. That is if you're of world champion pro surfer calibre.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  3 года назад

      Hey mate - welcome!
      They are both fairly user friendly, there are a few small differences between the two with the removal of the hip and the vee, but these don't really impact the usability of the board...

  • @scottjohns6595
    @scottjohns6595 6 лет назад +2

    I've been looking at this board in a 5'8 for myself, which is dropping about 1.5L from my last daily driver. Would you mind sharing your height, weight and if that's about the volume you normally ride in a daily driver?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  6 лет назад +1

      OnlyFunThings hey! I’m 5’10.5 and 90kgs. I normally aim for 29.5L, so this is pretty close and felt good. It would have also been good with a little more foam, but I didn’t want the length of the 5’9 and it felt way too big under my arm. Hope that helps!

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +4

    keep on the good job man.
    rocket wide was one of the big dissapointments i experienced in 38 years of surfing...i surf israel beach breaks and i bought it for the 2-4 feet allrounder.
    now im thinking of trying the NB2 instead in spin tech con.

      AJ J great comparison, as I’m only thinking about other Dane models (Neckbeard, Sampler, Dumpster Diver) when looking at this, but it’s down the line pace and drive feels very similar to the C.I Twin, but into a turn (bottom or top) this feels immediately different. And I don’t feel the C.I Twin had the same pace across flat sections that this does. 🤙

    Do you prefer the NB2 over the original Neckbeard? Or how would you compare them? I love the original Neckbeard for how fast and fun it is in small to med surd, but mine is pretty beat up. On a day with a Long Point and waves about 4 feet over head do you ride a step up? Or would you continue ridding this style board?

I prefer the in depth review of the outline, rocker and fin choices as well as how it goes in a variety of conditions as you have done in the past. @@tomwatt9018 Hey! Thats exactly what it is, a quick review! And we aren't trying to sell you a board either, the review is independent. We also aren't trying to pass it off as something more in depth, that stuff is already out there online. Technical info about the board is available on cisurfboards.com, and surfing at a elite level has already been displayed by Dane. We are just trying to capture what would the average/everyday surfer who surfs average/local conditions expect from the board - I hope we captured that.
      We'll continue to do more in depth reviews with other boards, but we'll try and pick and choose what boards we do that with! We aren't trying to compete with anyone online, and we don't want to create reviews/content that take up half your day trying to find out a few key points about what you should expect from the board!
