Hey man, I just want to give you a big thank you for this video. It's really helping me putting some things in my life in perspective.
I've been struggling with depression for a few years now, and a lot of it is centered around nostalgia. I long so bad to go back to being a kid basically constantly. It's not just that things were simpler, although that is a big part of it too. It's that life felt so exciting, the world felt so big and the things that you could do felt limitless. I am 26 now and struggling to function in the modern world, for a lot of reasons. Finding things to live for is genuinely a big struggle of mine now, where it was effortless when I was younger.
You seem to understand how important things like Pokemon are for people like us. I often try to describe the way the old games make me feel, and how they made me feel as a kid, and I just end up feeling like an idiot, because at the end of the day, they are games made primarily for children. I don't feel bad for still enjoying Pokemon, but I feel like a lot of people, or at least the people around me, do not grasp how much nostalgia affects me in my day to day life.
I really enjoy the use of the word "solace" in this video, it's a word I've heard before in my life but never really understood. I'm going to be moving forward and trying to reflect on that word, and try to get to a point where I can feel solace as well. Hopefully starting journaling will help me compartmentalize all this and start making improvements in my mental state.
Sorry to kind of just spill my guts in this comment, I just wanted you to know that I resonate really strongly with these videos, and I'm very grateful to have found this channel. Keep doing what you do. :)

Hey! Thanks for becoming a member and sharing something personal in your life. I can say with high certainty I can relate to your feelings. I think that is also what makes the internet so special. A lot of people wont relate to how we feel in our day to day lives however on the internet, we can see we aren't alone.
Pokemon is more than just an older game and I know you understand that too. Its like a portal to go back in time and relive part of your childhood. Its also even more than that. It would take a whole novel to describe how much these games mean to me!
I would agree that journaling will help ones mental state and just reflecting on thoughts. Seeing the words on paper almost makes it real and permanent. That is why I write in pen too. Once its on the page, its there! Would also recommend getting out into nature every now and then even for a short walk or just sitting outside. It so simple but powerful.
I am no expert on managing this emotion however its been an roller coaster. Pretty sure I mentioned in the video but there are a lot of wonderful new things to experience in life. Going to far down the nostalgia rabbit hole (especially the sad side of it) makes those new things harder to find. Maybe I am being a hypocrite since from one's perspective it might appear I dove so far down the rabbit hole I dedicated an entire RUclips channel on it. However from my perspective, this channel is about experiencing things I love and find nostalgic but in a new light that I havent done before. So things are in a way new to me, but relate or are similar to things in the past. I might not have formulated my thoughts as best as I could here however I hope the intent is there!
Dont be sorry for sharing something important like this with me and other people! Its one of the reasons I made this video!

One of the best things about having kids is that you get to relive your childhood through them. They get excited about everything and they are a constant reminder that the world is still magical!

Hey dude. I am truly glad that your channel is finally starting to get the attention it deserves. Your videos are incredibly soothing, the music is very whimsical, and it puts me in a really nice mood. In times where social media is absolutely destroying the society’s attention span, it’s good to find a channel like yours, where the videos are captivating and last more than just a couple of minutes. I really like the way you communicate, in a very calm and concise tone. Have a great week mate.

Brother you brought to a tear to my eye with this one. I'm glad I found your channel. Almost every upload reinvigorates the positive nostalgia you're referring to. A combination of your voice, the background music and just the ambience of your setup and careful journaling. It's a lot of the stuff I really want to do in terms of playing my older pokemon games beyond just beating the main story etc but can't find the motivation to do all the old IV/egg move breeding, replaying games to have access to multiple of an important TM etc. I feel like I'm living that wistful yearning through your videos.. a bit sentimental I know, but thanks for uploading so consistently. Appreciate you bud.

I had lost interest in Pokemon around high school. It had become unpopular at the time and people would make fun of me and others for playing it. I ended up moving on and playing a lot of call of duty and making montages with friends. I remember hearing eden for the first time. The first song I heard from them was xo when they were called the eden project. I made a lot of friends but it got boring after a while. I dug my old gameboys and Pokemon games out of my closet and regained the love I had for the games I had when I was young. I’m glad that I never got rid of the games but wished I hadn’t let others thoughts prevented me from enjoying one of my passions. I’m glad I found your channel. It has inspired me to share with others my experience with these games.

I was only able to to break out from living in the past last year and did a lot of self reflection since then and I agree with almost every single point you make.
The only thing I personally don't agree with, is the thought of having kids.
I know you're talking about your own thoughts and I'm sure you can learn a lot from them and I can only imagine how nice it must be to show your own kids the stuff you loved when you were young.
I just don't think it's something one must have in order to experience that kind of joy again. It's different for everyone and some people would not end up happy if they had children.

The thing about nostalgia is it makes you think things were better than they were. As an adult I have control over my life in ways I didn't back then. Now instead of letting it rule me, I use it as motivation to do my own thing. Life is what you make it sounds like a platitude, but there is some truth to it. Only I dictate what the world is like for me.

Pokemon and zombies, an odd combination that im glad to see someone else enjoyed growing up!
As i get older, i find myself making peace, or at least trying to, with moving past my childhood. I still find joy in these things, but when i look in the mirror, i see gray hairs and wrinkles starting and im kinda faced with that sobering reality that im not a kid anymore. And as scary as it is, i have to accept that im getting older. Im kinda left to wonder if im acting my age, or if i should still be doing certain things-- all these kinds of questions. Ive come to the conclusion it really is all about mindset. My childhood was a magical thing, and i should be happy i got to experience that, as it couldve been literally any other way. Or even with getting older... its a privilege to have gray hair and exist for longer. Not everyone gets that. And the adventure is never over. Each new phase of life brings many new challenges and things to explore and experience. Its really important for me to remember this when i feel that existential dread fill my body at the sight of gray hair lol! Its also more important than ever to embrace my true self and do the things that make me happy, no matter what. Even if that means spending hundreds of hours playing pokemon fire red on my gameboy. Cause if im not happy and true to myself then whats the point? At the end of the day, when i lay in bed at night, or look at my changing features in the mirror in the morning, im the one that has to live with myself, 100%.
This was a great video that made me feel really validated, so i just wanted to share some of my thoughts as well

I love your profile pic XD! Thank you you for sharing your thoughts and experience. Pretty much agree with everything you said. One thing I started to notice is how I look in the mirror too or even compare myself to pictures. I def look older these last few years. Not in the sense or really getting bigger or growing up, more like aging (if that makes sense).
I like what you said "And the adventure is never over. Each new phase of life brings many new challenges and things to explore and experience." My childhood was great, but so is each new part of life and just need to have the ability to see it and appreciate it! We inevitably keep moving forward but sometimes its good to look back on the experiences that shaped who we are today.
      Thank you for commenting!
