Era tanto difficile? E come hai fatto a prepararti per tutto il necessario? Hai trovato tempestivamente gli argomenti da studiare e se si come? grazie mille

I'm a Cardiology resident at the moment. But I had a somewhat similar experience! After grade 12 I decided I didn't want to go into medicine lol
Went into Chartered accountancy. Was acing it. Then after two years I realised I didn't like it! Reapplied to medical schools. But it was late in the session 😄
Then a new medical school opened and I applied and got accepted.
Was very apprehensive as I had forgotten much of biology and chemistry but joined anyway.
End result: graduated with second position in my uni and two gold medals (we get medals for distinctions in subjects).
And now on the way to my specialty in Cardiology 💛
    Good luck Faye! :)

I know that you said you hated it because of the hours, but your time as a carer will make you a much better doctor than those who went through their training without that exposure. Learning how people manage their illnesses day-to-day away from a clinical environment, getting a realistic picture of the body's vulnerabilities and the ageing process, not to mention your enhanced communication skills and ability to work in partnership with patients. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but many medical schools now have it as a pre-requisite that you have to have had some experience with in-need population group in either a voluntary or paid capacity, and it might be useful for other applicants to hear more about your experience in Africa and as a carer. It might also help you to process that awful time in your life a little more! Best of luck with the rest of your training. Much love from a nurse and soon-to-be medical student! xo

Hey! I’ve actually got a more detailed video coming out about my gap year tomorrow where I explain it more. I’m definitely really hard on care work because it’s tough and looking back, I think I had enough hands on care experience through volunteering in a centre for blind people during sixth form and a clinic in Zambia and in hindsight, I wish I’d enjoyed my last few months of freedom + focused on my resits. Med is stressful and I think I could’ve made better use of these months because I already had adequate care experience if that makes sense? But I completely agree. There’s nothing that has humbled me more than being a carer. Additionally, I was sexually harassed by 2 people I cared for several months and this definitely tainted my experience a lot which is why I can be really harsh on it as well.
That’s so exciting you’re starting med! Best of luck lovely. Being a nurse already you’ll be a step ahead of so many of you colleagues ❤️❤️

Your story is very refreshing. I got into med school right away but after 2nd year (we have 6 years in Slovenia) I just couldn't handle all the studying. So I took some years off - also worked as a carer in the UK in the meantime and now I'm back in 3rd year and I just love it so much more. I truly appreciate being able to learn all the new things, I understand myself more and can recognise what the problem is when I face them (eg. the way of learning particular subject, stress, lack of sleep...). So all in all I think it's all a process of learning how to deal with certain things in our life. Things happen for a reason - and I truly believe in that. 😊
Keep up the good work! 😍♥️

I’m redoing all 3 of my A-levels again and now I need an A* as well bc I’m a retake student, working in a nursing home which is such a tough job, and missing all my friends who are at uni. I’m so glad you touched on doing a level subjects you enjoy as long as you do the required subjects for your applications! Every teacher in my school told me it would be a huge mistake to take art a level on top of my required subjects (chem, bio and maths) because it would take too much time and result in lower grades but I did it anyway and I honestly believe if I hadn’t taken art, I wouldn’t have finished my a levels at all or done as well in them. And hey, it worked, I’m in my 3rd year of medicine now! If there’s an unrelated subject that you’re really passionate about, don’t be put off taking it, don’t deny yourself exploring that area and use it as a break from your ‘medicine’ subjects because it gets tough and that unrelated subject can give you the fuel to keep yourself going.

To anyone here who has been rejected and is sad about the fact they’ll have to apply again : Don’t worry, it could be worse, I promise. I’m French, and here we only have one single chance. If you fail ( which is easy because they take thousands of people in first year and there are only a couple hundred places to get into second year ) you literally cannot do medicine ever again in any uni in France. In my country we have to sit for a national level exam in order to get into med school. The seats are limited but about 1,600,000 sit for the exam every year. When I sat for the first time I was having the worst time in terms of mental health and hence didn't do well. The next year I sat for it again and I also sat for a similar exam for engineering this time. Made it into the engineering school in the branch of mechanical engineering but didn't do well in the exam for med school. Some kind of anxiety developed relating to that exam , decided to go with engineering. Now that I am in a better place mentally, the thought of sitting for the exam again is just stuck there in my head but the same time the thought that since I am 20 now, is it late now, keeps coming up. But I hope I find courage like you and try atleast once again as I am very passionate about medicine and also here doing engineering something just doesn't feel right for me. Let's hope for the best 🤞

If there’s a will, there’s a way ☺️ Especially if you know you’re passionate about science 🧬
In terms of what to take, ideally take bio and chem and a third option you enjoy (that is isnt general studies) then you cover the requirements for all med schools in the uk!

It's really interesting that you say you wish you'd dropped maths instead of history. I had a similar experience - I dropped history and took english instead because I thought it would look better on my application - I ended up getting a C in english (lol) and I'm pretty certain I would have got an A in history if I'd kept going with that. At the time I was looking at unis that required chemistry plus one from biology/maths/english etc whereas I actually ended up going to Glasgow which didn't really care what you did as long as you enjoyed it and got a good grade. It all worked out in the end though - once you graduate no one asks you what grades you got at school!

I am studying Bio, chem, phys, and maths and got 2 Bs and 2 Cs (bio and physics but i'm dropping physics) for AS (actual grades)
Don't ask me what happened... Icl I expected even worse despite knowing how low the grade boundaries would be. I didn't put my 100% into my studies... I was so tired and felt like to gave up before few weeks of the exam (stress from school, and then personal problems at home too) but yeah I take full responsibility for that and also my UAT told me I can't apply to medicine since it wouldn't be a competitive application (not to mention i got a shit UCAT too.. idk if i even should attempt BMAT atp)
I am so lost on what to do but I know on what to focus on which is to get my As for A levels but right now at this moment I am so lost and scared to go back to school tomorrow knowing how incredible my friends did and everything and how I am going to feel about myself and stress about the whole thing and make decisions which I am prob going to regret a lot later on...

C Eleanor glad you enjoyed! I kind of mention this in my recent Q&a video because I forgot to mention it in this video. The company I worked for weren’t great (I would do 15hour shifts and get paid for 8/9hours). I think care work is humbling and really has really benefited my interpersonal skills. I do think it gives you a lot to talk about on your personal statement and interview. The main thing is to find a company that treats its employees well, have a look online or speak to someone else who’s worked for the company. Hope that helps!! Feels like I am harsh about care work in this vid when actually I did learn a lot. It just wasn’t an ideal job because I was resitting my exams and 15hour days + resits were hard xx

I have no idea what sixth form or A-levels are since I’m from the US, but the UK education system seems to revolve heavily around exams 😩 if it’s before college (university) then that makes sense as we have similar concepts, i.e. the SAT/PSAT/ACT, but in the UK it seems to be too much!

Ye a levels/sixth form are before college and we sit them at the end of school ❤️ I find comparing the systems so interesting!

@@zeynepunsal934 I was in Istanbul. I loved it 😍 personally I wouldn’t suggest coming to the US long-term but it’s your decision. There are many English-speaking countries you might prefer over the US. We have a lot to recover from as a country at the moment!

I gave up on the idea of medicine because of mediocre GCSE and A-Level (Covid predicted ) grades currently on the public health course at ARU but flirting with the idea of medicine again. Any thoughts on the med science or biomed courses at ARU?
