Yep, I'm going to need a few of these n scale Auto Train racks for my layout. Might even have to do a review for my channel.....
HO Scale viewliners is what should be next!
Wooden trains
i just bought these like 5 min ago at my hobby/model train store
Wow where can I buy those amtrak auto racks? In PA
I also want to buy this train set but from where I can buy it.
They should be showing up in hobby stores right now! We have a "shop finder" section on our website if you're in need of finding a store near you.
Would love to see more HO 53' Maxi well cars produced. Thanks!
We've got more HO Intermodal stuff already on the production list for the upcoming year, so no worries there!
Can you put cars in those?
I have an N scale Cali Zephyr and a set of WP F3s from Kato and I have to agree, the stainless steel finish is really awesome! Very nice job!
on the HO scale model do the barring caps rotate on the trucks?
Yes...They would go great with the pair of P42's I purchased.
I bought the N scale auto racks and couldn't believe how light they were. There is a small amount of weight added to them, but I ended up adding a full once to keep them more stable. Very good looking cars!
can you give me the city of los angeles plz
Is Kato planning on releasing any Amtrak superliner IIs in n scale?
or ho scale at that??
Any chance you guys are doing the Amtrak Auto Racks in HO? I would love to model the auto train!
That's definitely on our "to do" list, once we see how the N scale ones are received on the marketplace! After all, they'd be a great fit for our P42's considering how much they can pull...
KatoUSAinc I think people will for sure buy the CN,CP and Amtrak autoracks In HO scale. I will buy some for sure
+KatoUSAinc I can't imagine how enormous it would be! XD
I have one of those baggage cars and i love it
SOUTH SHORE MODEL
Sweet HO Heritage Budd baggage cars - can we have them in Amtrak Phase III? Some of us have the F40PH and Superliners in Phase III paint - and need those stainless Heritage baggage cars to go with them. Also, for us pre-Superliner II modelers a former AT&SF Budd Hi-level Step-up Dorm in Phase III would be awesome too!
Kato's finish on all their passenger equipment is first rate. I just wish Kato would consider a 6/5 (6 bedroom, 5 compartment) sleeper as was found on the CZ after 1951. It would allow the train to be more prototypical in a wider variety of eras (50's up to discontinuance).
Free samples might be nice :)
Brian haha yes
can you guys do more f40ph and amtrak auto rack.
Nice video. I just got online and bought the 2014 Kato n scale Amtrak auto rack 4 car sets 1, and 2 this year in February and also bought the current 2018 Kato n scale Amtrak auto rack 4 car sets 3, and 4 to add to my awesome current collection to model the Amtrak auto train which I just rode this year in February. What I want to know is will Kato be making anymore N scale Amtrak auto rack 4 car sets this year? 16 auto racks to me is probably not quite enough to model the auto train cause I’ve seen it with a lot more than 16 auto racks. It seems like the auto train runs with more like 20 to 25 at times depending on how full the train is and such. Thanks for letting me know on this question. Hope to hear more from you all soon. Thanks.
Not this year, but as we sell out of each stock number we'll look into doing re-runs with new road numbers.
That sounds real wonderful. Thanks for letting me know. Cause most of us well know that the real Amtrak auto train can have as many as 25 to 30 or so auto racks on the rear end of it for lets say a ballpark figure. It would also be neat if Kato could try to make in N scale the different style 33100 series lounge diners that they use on the auto train which look way different compared to the regular sightseer lounges. I know Amtrak only has 5 of them for use on the auto train but check out photos of them online on other websites and I know you all get the idea.
I love the baggage car, as well as the Superliner I's that Kato has made. I just wish a transition car was offered to move from a single level car (I.e. baggage car) to a high level car (Superliner). In order to fill this niche, a Superliner II Transition Sleeper would be required. So my question is, can we ever expect Superliner II HO cars to be offered by Kato? The molds can't be too drastically different from Superliner I's, right?
Also, stealing Bolt Fan's comment suggestion, I would be so so so happy if Kato did HO scale Autoracks.
Thank you Kato, for going all out for us Amtrak modelers.
Nice stuff.
Is kato planning on releasing any amtrak superliner IIs?
Will the auto racks fit in the jewel cases?
Any plans to make a model of Budd Sunset Limited in n? Thad H. Carter
Good!
Is there some reason Kato insists on using a coupler/draft gear system that does not allow installation of Kadee, Sergent Engineering or other couplers without severe body mount modifications? It is the one sticking point that has made me reconsider whether to get the new baggage car and/or Superliners. I was disappointed that the baggage cars don't have the same coupler mount that was on the business car you made in HO several years ago, why change something that isn't broken?
The coupler system is designed to be able to give enough swing to let the cars go around 18" radius curves. That means the base of the fulcrum has to be pretty far back, much further back than a normal coupler shank length will allow. We are working on an add-on coupler that will make it easier to mount Kadee couplers onto the Bi-levels, superliners, and baggage cars.

Thank you, that would be much appreciated! Is that a long-term planned project, or will possibly be out in the near future? In contrast to my comments about the coupler system, I love the detail level and finish on the models, and I am impressed that truck all have the turning bearing caps!
Wow! Those are real nice. The auto racks are big. I love the baggage cars. Those baggage cars would be perfect for me because I'm modeling HO. So, is it just the color of the paint that appears as a stainless steel color or do they have an actual platted finish? But still weather they do or not, they are really nice.
It's a painted finish rather than actual electroplating. It looks more natural and a little less "high gloss" than a fully chromed finish does.
Well, they're still pretty impressive. Now, in the future at all, do you guys plan to do the N-Scale MP36PH in the New Mexico Rail Runner scheme? Also, would HO and N-Scale Metra F40Cs be considered for the future? And also Nippon Sharyo electric multiple units for the Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad or the Metra electric? The South Shore Line equipment in HO or N-Scale would be very impressive to see, especially the Bi-level coaches.
hey KATOUSA, I will be making an n scale Kato layout that is double-tracked. do you have a dcc throttle system that will hook up to kato unitrack?
Unfortunately we don't make any DCC throttle systems at all - however you can hook up any non-Kato power pack to Kato UNITRACK by using our #24-843 terminal adapter cord - it converts the mini tamiya plugs on our power cables to spade clips.
Any future chance of those Autoracks in HO?
Hopefully. We're definitely discussing it for our next year's production schedule.
Woo hoo!
