  • Join us for a brief look at the inside of Kato's N scale GG1 electric locomotive along with a tutorial on basic DCC installation and reassembly.
    The GG1 is a DCC friendly mechanism and is compatible with several manufacturer's DCC-boards, such as the TCS K1D4/K1D4-NC (featured in this video) and the Digitrax DN163K1D.
    The GG1 is available in multiple paint schemes, including PRR, Penn Central, Conrail Bicentennial, and Amtrak. Visit your local hobby shop to see this locomotive in person!

    I remember requesting a GG1 from you guys back in the late 1990s...well, you guys certainly delivered, and it was well worth the wait! :-)

    Kato produces the best n scale models in the world. In my collection, I have 108 American locos and 17 Japanese book sets. Please, please produce P42 Amtrak Veterans.

    I also have a black GG1 in N-Scale. It's not Penn Central it's Amtrak.

    I see how this works for the GG1. Does it work the same way on Kato passenger cars? I have Sliver Streak and Super Chief cars. Getting the shell off is my first intimidation. Knowing where those pins are is very important. I want to eventually put light kits in my cars. Instructions with some of Kato's stuff is sketchy, minimal and pics are not always clear. It helps to have a video like this. Thank you.

      The GG1 and our passenger cars are very different beasts. The passenger cars are actually much easier to disassemble, usually just gripping the shell in one hand and one of the trucks in the other and wiggling is enough to release the grip on the underbody and release the lower half of our passenger cars.

    I'm curious. Since no Kapton tape is used, how is the board isolated from the frame?

    I don't know how but my traction tire slipped off. This video was VERY helpful in getting the shell on and off but disassembling the truck was difficult and reassembling it was a cast iron BITCH! I had a LOT of difficulty keeping the 2 brass pickups on the truck tower while you slipped it back into the plastic truck side frame... Is there an easier way or trick to doing this if I ever have to replace the traction tire? Also I have trouble with my E8s. when I run them with a trailing unit facing backwards, they always derail the lead truck of the following car on a curve. I suspect the combination of a long loco and a limited swiveling pilot coupler is the culprit... when I run the locos with a truck mounted coupler trailing no problem. This even happens on the 13 3/4 inch curves on my V6 test loop, let alone my 11 and 12 inch T TRAK curves. My F units are fine as they are shorter. When I run my El Capitan or Superchief with E8s I use an extra baggage car with a long shank coupler leading and this works, but the gap it creates is ugly. The Broadway Limited baggage car doesn't use a screw to attach the trucks so I can't swap out a truck so the conversion would be semi permanent. I would need a spare pennsylvania baggage car like I did for my Santa Fe trains but the problem is FINDING an extra Broadway Limited baggage car...I realise I can solve this by running "elephant" (nose to tail) but I LIKE running back to back...Anybody have any suggestions?

      oops meant when I run my Santa Fe I use a spare baggage car with a LONG SHANK coupler on the lead truck which works...

      My traction tire also somehow slipped off, i would like to know why this keeps happening

    since one of the choices on the steam survey is a Dreyfuss Hudson, does this mean next year's project train will be a 1938 20th Century Limited? I REALLY hope so! I bet if you do it sells out in 20 minutes. I'd also like to see a 1948 Century but I'm being greedy now... I guess I'll start looking for a brass NYC 3rd rail electric loco so I can model the switch at Harmon...Lol!

    How to keep the rubber tracking on the wheels of the GG1 trucks? It keeps falling to the side and the locomotive has no traction.

    • @KatoUSAinc
      @KatoUSAinc  8 лет назад

      +Adolfo Barros If they keep coming off, then chances are the rubber has been stretched and there's not enough tension to keep the tire on anymore. You would need to replace the tire in that case.

      @@KatoUSAinc how does one replace the traction tires on the GG1? Can't seem to find the manual anywhere
