although im not a huge fan of the eyes. big eyes like that IRL just remind me of bug eyes, i will say that they could have made it look so much worse. i might give it a chance though
It won't flop, James Cameron's movies have been steadily getting bigger box office numbers over time, just look at his stats. My initial dislike of the big eyes is diminishing with time and I am sure the movie will be a hit, especially if Cameron actually put in some of his creativity and genius. I say that because I don't know if his name is attached to it as a executive producer, or if he was directing it.
Cameron is writer and producer, Robert Rodriguez is the director. Its Cameron's passion project which was kept on hold for years because of Avatar. In fact the title was changed from Battle Angel Alita to Alita Battle Angel as Cameron movies start with T or A. So his creativity is involved, but many people are writing this as a potential flop.
I can totally see why people are a bit..put off, by the eyes. She and the other android characters are already really pushing the Uncanny Valley, and her eyes put her even further into it. I love the manga, I've read pretty much all of them (except the Mars stuff I guess, I didn't know that was a thing until a few days ago, I'll have to get my hands on them), and I'm unsure of how I feel about this. On the one hand it's fairly true to the character's design, which I really appreciate, but on the other hand, with her seeming very human in all other aspects, those eyes don't really seem like they fit and really hit the UV. Her eyes, and most other female anime/manga characters for that matter, work in anime and manga, because of the medium and style, they just don't seem to translate into photorealism well.
Do nerds like anything anymore? We're living in a dream time where comics that were impossible to produce at one time are getting made in to movies and it's wasted on the worst audience ever.
White. White male nerds are angry and hateful. Because they have to share with feeemales and colored people. They are the only ones screaming their hate. So they are burning everything down, and embracing ethnonationalist fascism. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were early examples of this.
I'm pretty sure all the people complaining about her eyes are just uncomfortable with themselves, and are deflecting. I think she looks perfect like she is she looks so much like the Manga!! :-D
I still don't like the eyes in live action, in animation it doesn't bother me because it's just a form of expression which fits the art, but it looks uncanny in a photo realtic environment.
Agreed. It just puts me off of a movie based on an anime/manga I really liked. I hope this tests badly enough for them to change it. And Aliya should have been played by a Japanese girl.
770megaman thats not the point, she is suposed to look human, she is probably the most human looking Android, she Even hide the fact that she is an Android at some point in the manga
super sayan She's not an android, she's a cyborg. You are right about the fact that she's supposed to look human. However I don't remember any point of the manga where she hides that she's a cyborg. She does hide that she has monstrous strength and fighting moves at one point though.
The manga style simply doesn’t translate well into live action form. Go back to post-processing and shrink those damn eyes down abit, they’re too distracting. I would’ve been more content if they’d kept the face unaltered with CGI and just added some lines on her face to indicate panels or something that would nod towards a built/repaired robot. Hollywood just can’t get anything right lately and they’re creatively bankrupt. I hope they never touch Akira.
I’m just saying, I was thinking of this movie the other day. I was very intrigued by it but after a month of advertising like a year ago, I heard nothing about it. Thought it’d come out already or something.
I think we may be on to something here, as robots get ever more advanced it will be difficult to identify them. By adding giant disturbing clown eyes, they become repulsive and easily identifiable even from a distance, this may be the manner in which humans will know if an entity is human or not.
I'm aware of that since very beginning. See, the creator of this movie not making Alita a full CG character with big eyes with no reason you know, they want you to think different about her, if you think she uncanny than they success to make you think that way, that's part of her story.
Well, we don't know the story of the movie yet, it could be as you said or maybe not, so far the eyes have been a bad design decision, there's people who will not watch the movie because of the eyes and even there's people who think she's a robot instead of a cyborg.
I'll probably enjoy it for what it is, but not expecting much. Putting it up against Aquaman and Bumblebee guarantees it's going to flop. I'd love to be wrong though.
I appreciate the direction and the passion for the project. But I still think the big eyes take away the performance from the actress. It's like CGI work done on a body double, but in this case, it might as well be CG for the whole movie. At the very least, I think the eyes are too big. A bit smaller and closer to blending in with humans would have worked better. But I haven't read the manga, so I could be wrong.
When I heard years ago that James Cameron was adapting this i was genuinely excited but after seeing the trailer my interest has all but vanished. The manga eyes are just distracting and a pointless waste of money. The people making this movie probably should have watched Ex Machina and Blade Runner before they took their awkward trip down the uncanny valley.
They don't even look that big
I thought I was having a mini stroke while reading the title
although im not a huge fan of the eyes. big eyes like that IRL just remind me of bug eyes, i will say that they could have made it look so much worse. i might give it a chance though
I don't get the hate for the eyes. I am very excited for this movie, really hope it doesn't flop, considering the super packed December.

The cgi in this movie is dope

I don't recall saying I dislike them. In fact I can clearly see that I said, 'I'm unsure how I feel about this.'
Edited :)
I have a favorite movie now. This is my favorite movie.
Best movie ever made IMO
Do nerds like anything anymore? We're living in a dream time where comics that were impossible to produce at one time are getting made in to movies and it's wasted on the worst audience ever.
I've never heard of this until recently and I am very interested in seeing it
So true
White. White male nerds are angry and hateful.
Because they have to share with feeemales and colored people. They are the only ones screaming their hate.
So they are burning everything down, and embracing ethnonationalist fascism.
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were early examples of this.
Yah the movie is lot more to look forward to.
@@janeappleseed2154 it has nothing to so with a white male
What the heck. How come so many people can't handle the eyes. It's not even a problem for me at all.
I'm pretty sure all the people complaining about her eyes are just uncomfortable with themselves, and are deflecting.
I think she looks perfect like she is she looks so much like the Manga!! :-D
Because they look silly.

Soaringfalco exactly it just looks creepy irl
Not agreed
I really hope you went and watched the movie. Almost %100 percent guaranteed you would think differently.
I guess I'm the only one that loves her eyes.
Nope i do too
We all love them
The eyes just make her look more like a anime/manga character. And that is tied to japanese culture. Afaik they do much with eyes.
If Blade Runner flopped so bad then this is going to bomb so hard that they're going to quit making SciFi movies.
Unless The Rock's stars in them.
says you...
Buri Buri Zaemon Yes, that's how comments work.
It made over 400 million in the box office lol
Her eyes are nightmare inducing. wtf were they thinking? I can't be the only one that is bothered by her eyes on that face. ::shivers::
yes you're not the only one, but most of us think otherwise.
did you take some kind of poll? haha
no, I read lots of comments on many Alita videos ;)
Finally I'm not the only one who actually likes the look of her Manga eyes
you never alone from the start m8
The eyes do the opposite of look human to me, they just make her look freaky.
The Illuminati at least..it show that she not human XD
Its a roboot not a human
Ryuko Chan!
She's a cyborg. As a matter of fact the human.
Dan Ck
She's not a robot she's a cyborg/human.
Agreed. It just puts me off of a movie based on an anime/manga I really liked. I hope this tests badly enough for them to change it.

They say that in millions of years from now, we'll all soon have big eyes like Alita...
Well you see IGN, there’s this thing called the uncanny valley...
Thats the point, she is not human....
770megaman thats not the point, she is suposed to look human, she is probably the most human looking Android, she Even hide the fact that she is an Android at some point in the manga
super sayan well I guess they changed that here.
770megaman
She's a cyborg, that means she's also human.

She's not an android, she's a cyborg.

She does hide that she has monstrous strength and fighting moves at one point though.
0:08 i thought Jon Landau is Mark Hamil lol
She looks like her eyes are gonna explode.
nope
yup
This movie is going to be awesome and everyone complaining about her eyes are going to end up eating their own words after the movie is out
Might be in the minority, but I don't have a problem with the eyes at all. Looking forward to seeing this movie.
The eye is a window to the soul.. something is a quote from a painter, and they even make a movie about her
is there another expression to describing it?
It’s not her eyes, it’s the emotion she shows. Her eyes just freak me out
They just don't have idea what the "huge eyes" means in the manga (every manga)...
if they don't get it, I assure you they won't make her eyes like this
This movie is coming from the director of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.
The manga style simply doesn’t translate well into live action form. Go back to post-processing and shrink those damn eyes down abit, they’re too distracting. I hope they never touch Akira.
PEL ON THE BOX too late there’s already a live action Akira in the works.
don't judge the book by it cover yet...
Shrink the eyes rather would have just used Rosa without CGI then.they have a reason for keeping it large sized
Her eyes are unique, soo gorgeous and full of life❤️
Those who made this movie totally missed the f$&king point by amillion miles.
This movie should be a rated r movie
I don't see a problem with how the eyes look.
Im actually far more concerned for the CGI. Its looks like TMNT 2007. :(
well this teaser came out on December last year, so they still have months before released this December.
They just used iphone camera app to get bigger eyes
Majority don't complain about the eyes, its always the minority who make it a big deal
Because the fanbase of the source material is very small. That's why they seem small.
I’m just saying, I was thinking of this movie the other day. I was very intrigued by it but after a month of advertising like a year ago, I heard nothing about it. Thought it’d come out already or something.
It was postponed to December 21st, that's why you don't see any advertising for it.
2 words:
Uncanny Valley
that's the point, the creator want you to thinking that way, so you can see how Alita feels.
@@tonypee3465 That was never the point of the story. She looked perfectly normal and was treated that way.
Can't wait to see these skeptics people crying over spilled milk
I don't know how I feel about the eyes yet, but they're certainly different.
I like that eye. It just like it came from comic book.
I think if everyone in the film had the manga eyes, it would be less distracting than just one person having them.
Those eyes have purpose in the movie, you'll see

I still would.

I think I saw someone with that big eyes on RUclips before.. She was doing like a cosplay ASMR or something..

the eye is so lovely
The face of gally is really missed in this movie !
Could've just hire Amanda Seyfried.

If that is true, why did they give Alita those eyes when she is human?
because she's not entirely human?
Buri Buri Zaemon
see the trailer, the other cyborgs aren't entirely human either and they don't have big eyes...
