    Here are a few tidbits of information that I didn't talk about during the project which I think are pertinent pieces of information if you want to keep your engine safe! (Sorry about the random timing caption in the beginning..... windows movie maker at it again)
    Set your timing (this video shows 10 degrees, use less if boosted): • 2 for 1 Special: Miata...

    Holy shit the sound is amazing! Can't wait for my car to be finally boosted. All I need is a reseal for my rx8 injectors, a downpipe (and straight through exhaust, so just a pipe), some surgery on my manifold and an exhaust manifold gasket. I'm getting excited already!

      +TheCarPassionChannel what do you recommend for an exhaust? I'm basically where broke and boosted is right now, but I need an intercooler and exhaust, my plan was to find a high flow muffler and have a muffler shop just connect everything with 2.5 inch pipe. I know you run the race bullet on your other car but I'm assuming it's always very loud? as long as it's not louder than my Brz was with a muffler delete on it I'm fine.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 лет назад

      Josh Hill If you ran open downpipe on a turbo Miata I doubt it would be near as loud as a straight piped n/a BRZ, lol. Turbos quiet the exhaust down considerably.

    • @hillstudios
      @hillstudios 8 лет назад

      +TheCarPassionChannel not entirely straight piped, just no muffler from the axel back, still had two cats on it. even then it was loud, but not in a bad way ;)

    Another tip is before you hook up your engine breathers to your intake run the pipes through an OIL CATCH CAN! Oil in your air/fuel make the mixture lean (er), which means KABLEMO! Just buy the cheapest one you can find and throw some Metal Scouring Pads in there, better than nothing!

    Do you have to set the ignition timing? Do u mean the timing chain or what? Im gonna run 4 psi its my 1st turbo build just started buying turbo parts. Just ordered the intercooler and piping next is turbo. Im running stock internals that's why im running low boost. Its not a miata btw. Dude, do you reckon a 240WHP like Phill from CarThrottle would be okay and wouldn't decrease the engine's lifespan too quickly? Cause if I Turbo a Miata I want at least 190WHP. Obviously I'd do a custom exhaust to make her breath better. I was thinking a TD04 or TD05 Scooby Turbo used would be a good strong piece of kit?

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  7 лет назад +3

      240whp is getting pretty high for a stock engine. With a good tune and use of common sense while driving, it can still last a long time, but I usually recommend staying between 200-220whp just so you have a little more headroom and margin for error. TD04-15G is a really good match for the Miata engine. Smaller TD04's still work well like the 13T but they take a little more boost to get into the 200's

    first off thanks for your videos.. really helpful!! I just finished my turbo build and started it 2 days ago.. car idles fine on start up but when I let go off the gas slowly it will stay around 2k rpms. i feel like the air pressure leaves the throttle slightly open because I can manually close the throttle and the idle will go down to normal. any ideas on why?

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 лет назад

      Air pressure won't make the throttle stay open. I'd start by inspecting the throttle body and throttle cable.

      o2 modifier anywhere on the intake manifold, BOV reference anywhere on the manifold, boost gauge anywhere on the manifold.

  • @jr04966
    @jr04966 8 лет назад

    thanks for the quick reply.. I have done some research and it looks like most people say the idle valve should be on the intake side of the turbo but you put it right before the throttle body.. does it matter if it sees Boost? since on stock it sees only vacuum

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 лет назад

      I've never seen anyone hook the idle valve up pre-turbo, that shouldn't have any affect on it. Stock it actually doesn't see any vacuum, there is no vacuum in the intake piping like there is inside the manifold. What ECU are you running?

      Try searching "homemade det cans" a lot of people make their own devices for listening to the engine. Personally I just leave the ignition timing conservative until I can get on the dyno.

      Thanks a lot for your fast respond. I have already search it a lot,and i know this way but it looks like to me a bit strange.. Ok thanks a lot! Well done again for your work.

    Greg , next I feel like you should start a NA8 turbo build.

      It would be 99% the same, minus the oil feed location and EGR delete, haha.

      +TheCarPassionChannel hmm , I hope so , so far I feel like the 1.8 engine bay feels much more cramped especially in front with stock setup + large radiator... So even the FMIC install looks a big ridiculous to pill off compared to the 1.6 as you know is tricky.

    So if I'm using bandaids (FMU, o2 signal mod, etc) with the stock ECU, do I have to use a recirculating BOV? I just want the pssshhht sound from the VTA ones

      You should recirc it, but you could always try without. Even if you recirc it, you'll still hear it.

    i did not retart ignition :/ still 10'
    quick question - where is your wideband bung located
    mine was aprox 20cm/8inches behind turbine - it is now fried :/

      You can just barely see it when I show the downpipe. It's probably 12" or so away from the turbine? I've go a buddy that has his literally 2" away and it's been fine for a long time, I think it can involve a bit of luck. I advise picking up an o2 sensor heatsink.

    Sir, can you make a list of links on your next video of where we can get the things you used like the o2 sensor modifier, your fmu, and things like that?

    i just bought a 1.6 i really want a torsen diff. What is required to get that done? also getting a new clutch and flywheel anything i should replace while transmission is out.

      The front and rear trans seals are always a good idea. Also, the rear main seal on the engine! For a Torsen swap, all you need is the Torsen, axles and driveshaft from any 1994-2002 1.8 car (I'm not sure if axles/ds are different in the 03+ Tochigi Fuji Super LSD or MSM torsens) and driveshaft bolts from a 1.8.

    stock ecu. lol my budget went off track so I couldn't get the ms.. I have the same set up you have except on a 1.8 97 miata, I had it connected exactly like you have and I thought that might be the reason why the idle acts up. but I guess I'm wrong so I gotta go in and check the throttle cables and butterfly spring.. weird thing is that I didn't have that problem before turbo :/

      Make sure all your piping is setup so there's no air getting into the engine that hasn't passed through the MAF also.
