  • In the third mini-lecture, we learn about the chemical environment, and what it means for a nucleus to be in a unique chemical environment. We learn that the number of unique chemical environments corresponds to the number of signals we see on an NMR spectrum. Additionally, we learn that symmetry within a molecule can affect the number of unique environments (both 1H and 13C) by looking at 4-ethylphenol.
