    Meh...the Japanese were not stupid when it came to Russia. Russia told them in April of 45 that they were no going to extend the non-aggression agreement. The Japanese saw the massive build up of Soviet forces...they knew it was coming. This presentation is just a dying echo of what the presenter talked about in the revisionists of the 1960's and 1970's. The academic left can not let go of it. They are old and bitter.

    Disproving biologism to make the case for your particular worldview is all the rave these days, considering the massive failures and insider criticisms of the psychiatric-pharmaceutical-industrial complex. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) shifted completely away from the DSM criterion in their research after Thomas Insel (2012). I remember one book from a psychiatrist that proceeds to recommend dietary supplements, meditation, and mindfulness after essentially debunking the credibility of her own profession: A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan. While Tik-Tok influencer Kiela Shaheen has recently topped charts with her self-help book The Shadow Work Journal. In every age, a Freud attempts to disencumber men's souls, but more than Socrates, it was Epicurus who nudged philosophy toward therapeutics. To cure. So, here we are, a five-minute exposé on the neuroscientist with a psychopathic brain. The cliche here is that the absence of evidence is not evidence. Falon also responded to this by saying that he must be one of the "normal" psychopaths. Of course, there are significantly more "normal" psychopaths in the population than there are psychopathic killers. I wonder how many "normal" people have an Oedipus complex or penis envy (Freud). I imagine the lecturer must be one of them. Who can take it seriously? Placebos do work better than these billion-dollar experimental chemical concoctions, when they aren't increasing the risk of suicidality at any rate, and we have the fraud of the STAR*D trials committed on the general public by these "normal" psychopathic killers as a reference for those failures, among others. If you argue that "sometimes" it proves the scientific authority of their extra-legal police function, that is, policing without fair trial or due process, then I'll have to ask: what is the scientific reality of antidepressants? What right do they have to decide norms for populations, if nothing else? As is the case with any treatment for depression-including bloodletting and electroshock-there will always be patients who offer positive testimonials. However, in science, such testimonials are called "anecdotal reports" and are not considered sufficient evidence for effectiveness. We have already reached peak therapy in the US, with more people than ever seeking care, so why is our collective mental health declining across the spectrum? To quote the then director Thomas Insel, author of Healing, "That's not true for cancer [survival], it's not true for heart disease [survival], it's not true for diabetes [diagnosis], or almost any other area of medicine," so what's true about psychoanalysis? Well, it turns out, in every field from atomic energy to medicine, policies that will permanently affect the destiny and possibly bring to an end the whole adventure of human life have already been formulated and carried through by self-appointed and self-regulating "experts" and "specialists" immune to human confrontation, whose very willingness to make these decisions on their own responsibility is proof positive of their total unfitness to do so.

    Correction: The Carthusian monks of the London Charterhouse were starved to death in Newgate jail. St John Houghton, Carthusian Prior of the London Charterhouse, Protomartyr of the English Reformation, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn for refusing to take the Oath recognising Henry VIII as Supreme Head of the Church in England. Thomas Cromwell threatened the jury that refused to convict St John Houghton with the same fate. Wolsey was executed for treason for not getting Henry an annulment.

    Margaret said that, one thing at the heart of the dystopian society is "you no longer have someone to trust in" and it becomes "eerily quiet"... between us... and who is this? Dylan's "Things have changed" also finds us in that reality, where we are today in the US. It can happen here; it already happens here and there, in right wing enclaves: Grass Valley, Clallam County, Provo, and many other places: it's happening: surveillance, monitoring, tracking and terrorizing. Gilead is here.

    This is very strange and very different than what I read in his texts and studied in my time... Cicero famously defined rhetoric as "a good person speaking well." The "good person" part means he claimed that the rhetoric by definition was concerned with ethics. In that light, this is a fascinating speech for me. I wonder, now, about the actual history of his speeches and how they contrast with his writing.

    the ruling military clique was so wedded to forcing an invasion that a group of influential colonels (no doubt at the behest of equally influential generals) staged a palace coup with the intent of imprisoning the emperor and intercepting his surrender speech EVEN AFTER THE 2ND BOMB HAD BEEN DROPPED!

    and heres why the premise that the russians invading manchuria is what really ended the war is utterly absurd. the military clique ruling japan had no intention of ending the war until it had forced the usa to invade so as to inflict so many casualties that the usa would be forced to sign a negotiated peace favorable to japan. so for the premise it was the russians to be true you would have to maintain it was the fear of the russian invasion who had little amphibious experience and little amphibious infrastructure while simultaneously trying to force the worlds premier amphibious operations military (the usa) with the largest amphibious infrastructure literally in human history. utter nonsense.

    5:06 the military clique ruling japan had no intention of ending the war until it had forced the usa to invade so as to cause so many casualties as to force the usa to negotiate a peace favorable to japan. to this end they had thousands of suicide airplanes, boats and submarines cached to attack the invasion force and were training civilians to resist all the way down to training schoolgirls with bamboo spears and children to dive under vehicles with explosives strapped to them.

  • @thurin84

    4:24 oh the irony. this image of b-29s dropping their payload was taken from a leaflet dropped on japan prior to the dropping of the bombs warning civilians to flee the 10 cities listed (ie on the short list of possible targets) as well as other cities. how often in the history of human conflict has prior warning of the use of a war ending weapon been afforded an enemy? btw the japanese high command forbade civilians fleeing their cities as it would disrupt war production which included small private workshops in individual private homes turning out small bits into the pipeline of japanese war production.

  • @thurin84
    @thurin84 2 месяца назад

    they produced so many purple hearts in anticipation of the invasion of japan that theyre still being awarded 80 years later for the global war on terror. and heres another thing to think about the numbers of deaths by war had been going up exponentially (especially during the 20th century) up until 1946. after the bombs were dropped the number stabilized (more or less) at a fraction of what it had been prior to the bombs being dropped.

    How can you call Cyrus "Great" if nomadic forces of barbarian tribes attack and obliterate the inhabitants of the civilized land of Babylonia? In fact, the priests of the temple Marduke opened the gate of Babylon in Cyrus. Do not forget how Queen Tomyris took care of him on his last invasion. Prof. Cook in the second volume of the Cambridge history of Iran, writes that only seven cavalrymen were able to escape from the battle field of the Massagetae. This was despite the treacherous plot of Cyrus that cost the son and one thirds of the Queen's army. You must approach history critically and condemn the nomadic tribes and him that cost the lives of tens of thousands of the rural and other innocent masses. Thanks!

    Several academics have made podcasts on RUclips rationalizing Henry VIII's destruction and vandalizing of all of England's monasteries and seizing their wealth for himself. I suppose there are podcasts rationalizing and justifying Hitler's crimes, so why not rationalizing his predessesor, Henry VIII. Henry and his henchman Cromwell destroyed England's archetectural and artistic heritage, the many great artworks in the monasteries, and the vast archives of the these institutions, which contains primary documents of all sorts going back to Anglo-Saxon times. It was the greatest and most criminal act of vandalism prior to Mao's destruction of the Tibetan monasteries five hundred years later. Why can't you academics get it in your heads that Henry was a selfish, greedy and violent man who stole from everyone and gave to himself? Their is something obscene about the contemporary academics who seek to rationalize this tyrants' crimes.

      While I agree that Henry was a tyrant, with many of his policies such as said dissolution being for personal gain rather than religious purposes, many monastic houses were corrupt much like the church at the time ( Mostly). Although this of course does not justify the extent of their dissolution or it's nature as not only were many integral to local society but also their wealth unfairly stolen
