French production and budget filmed in England (Pinewood studios). The only Hollywood input are most of the actors. That's also why Besson had the final cut in it. Even if his previous film, Leon the professional was shot in New-York, the production is also 100% French. Contrary to many people I think it's a good (but not great) film, but Jeunet didn't get the final cut.

Basic, boy hoping to find the "perfect" woman story and it has a happy ending. Another obscure Willis flick that you would enjoy is "RED". RED has Willis, Mary Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfus, Carl Urban, Brian Cox and a few more you would know.
Indeed... Saw it in high school. Or was it the summer after, just before college? Somewhere in there... Regardless, pretty much one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time...
Yes this movie was successful at the box office. i watched it blind in a packed theatre on opening weekend. The audience loved all the jokes and got the concept. The movie dissapeared from top lists from critics, etc. so it was kinda forgotten in main media circles but since it is such a fan favorite the Internet has brought it back to the top.
"Ian Holm!! thats bilbo baggins" nono..nonono...thats Vitto Cornelius, priest. XDD "i didnt expect this movie to be funny" right before Ruby...that perfect timing hahaha
Milla Jovovich was actually quite famous as a teenager. She was in movies, she had a music career. One of the tippy top models. She had a hit alternative kind of folk song called the "gentleman who fell" that got a lot of play on MTV back in the Nirvana days and she married a few much much older men. Including the director of this movie luc besson.
There's a 11 years gap with her current husband, whom she married at 33 (he was 44). I'm not sure if that qualifies as "much much older". At 22 she married 38yo Luc Besson. 11 or 16 years are not huge gaps in Hollywood at all. I mean I love Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as a couple, but there's a 11 years gap between them. 20 years between Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. 11 and 16 seems just standard in the movie industry.
Gary Oldman and Tim Roth, in their youth, played the leads in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead". The brilliant Tom Stoppard essentially turned Shakespeare's tragedy "Hamlet" inside-out, so that we follow two minor characters both onstage and backstage, so to speak. While the main action of the play takes place offscreen or in the background, we stick with these two schmucks as they wonder what their purpose is, and follow them into their interactions with Shakespeare's characters before we once again go with R & S off to their own storyline again. And. it. is. funny!!! Clever and inventive beyond belief. In playing with the two characters, the movie plays with the viewers. A unique and original concept that I have seen copied but never equaled.
Milla Jovovich - So never saw the Resident Evil (2002) series of movies? Ultraviolet (2006); The Three Musketeers (2011); Zoolander 2 (2016); Monster Hunter (2020) to name some I've seen her in.
I watch endless movies ...and I've never seen any of those lol But I assume she plays the same part in Zoolander 2 as she does in Zoolander 1? Thats a much better way to point her out And she was in the new Hellboy. That may be the best way, seeing as it and her were a thing
You have to watch some more 90's cult classic movies! Four rooms, Cecil b demented, the Doom generation, Existenze, welcome to woop woop (takes place in Australia supposedly), tank girl, the thirteenth floor, Johnny mnemonic (Keanu Reeves)
Yessss! Love that you're reacting to The Fifth Element. It's my comfort movie. The perfect blend between action, humor and style. Must've seen it dozens of times.
You know that the alien language that Mila speaks is actually a functional language made up by the movie director and herself. They would use it to talk to each other on set and nobody knew what they were saying.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to do this one! This is one of my top 20 all-time favorite sci-fi flicks! It never gets the credit it deserves. I would also recommend you check out Dark City.
Mary might also want to see Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt together in a sci-fi movie. If so, then she should watch Twelve Monkeys (one of my favorite movies). It's an intense movie, but well worth checking out.
Milla Jovovich is also Ever Anderson's mother. Ever Anderson played young Nat in Black Widow. During Young Nat's fiercer scenes, Ever reminded me of Leeloo.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is full of surprises. Polly has only a few shots left on the film in her camera. Follow the story to see what is worth a picture.
Did you know, Mary, that Milla J, is, or was - (don't know at the moment now?) - married to a Geordie who is/was a cameraman back in those days . . . I remember her from a long time back on a programme when she was being interviewed. (Not sure if it was about this film or more likely her newer Resident Evil ones?) - Being asked about her life then, she said that she loved going with her husband(?) back to his home and family in Newcastle as often as they could. And when there, that they would head off to Gregg's so that they could pick up some of their favourite treats whenever they were over here . . . So more likely before Gregg's ended up going nationwide and not only being in the North-East . . .
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but when the general tells Leeloo that she needs to develop her communication skills after being told the tube is unbreakable, watch closely just before Leeloo punches through. You can see the 'etching' in the glass where it breaks. Just a fun bit of info.
Good choice. And for another early Oldman role in a musical movie, and one that is radically different from the musically centred "Immortal Beloved", he plays Sid in "Sid and Nancy". The only other actor I can think of who made two movies (in this case, during the same year) with such radically different roles is Daniel Day Lewis in 1986, when he was in both "My Beautiful Launderette" and "Room With A View".
Milla is a very famous world class supermodel. She has been acting since probably mid 1980’s, and also wrote and recorded a very good album in the late 1990’s entitled The Divine Comedy. Check out a video of a single on youtube from the album called The Gentlemen Who Fell. She is also the star of the Resident Evil films.
So as far as Milla Jovovich she was in Return to the Blue Lagoon back in 1991, two years later she did Dazed and Confused. In '97 she did The Fifth Element which was one of the first movies to showcase her Martial Arts talent. I highly recommend Ultraviolet, and the Resident Evil films that all star Milla and show off her skills as a Martial Artist. They are great action movies although with little comedy.
Loved this movie. One of Besson's most interesting. Bruce Willis as an ex-soldier turned cab driver (Wild). Tommy 'Tiny' Lister-RIP as The President (Wilder). Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod (Even Wilder). You should check out 'Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets' which is also directed by Luc Besson.
The movie was made and written by a french director Luc Besson so the name of Mila's Character "Leeloo" is the english pronounciation of the french words "L'élu" which means "The chosen one".
After more than 25 years, "The Fifth Element" still is a vibrant, loud, humurous and kick-ass sci-fi epic, and my favorite Luc Besson movie of all time. "The Fifth Element", "Léon: The Professional" and "La Femme Nikita" are the holy trinity of Luc Besson's films in his prime.💯
If you liked this one, you should see: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Same director. Same kind of feel. Not quite a sequel, but kinda. It's awesome.
God I love these reactions. I never thought I’d be addicted to watching people watch something I’ve watched before. Insane, but totally happy to have the ability. I remember seeing this movie for the first time in the 90’s as a kid. Such a fun film.
If you enjoy Luc Besson's scifi aesthetic, then try "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" - it has it's flaws, but visually absolutely stunning.
I consider this one of the best movies ever made. The genre-mix, unique cuts, stellar script (Luc Besson started developing it when he was a teenager), wonderful acting . . .
You should see Gary Oldman in "True Romance".(1993) This movie is full of unforgettable performances by Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt, and many more.
Yes Gary Oldman is a genius actor. Can do anything, any type, any genre. Idk if you have seen it or not and I’m sure people have already requested it, but you should try to watch Leon: The Professional. It also has a VERY young Natalie Portman. Great movie.
Fun fact... my daughter is named after Bruce Willis's character in this movie. My (late) wife and I decided if we had a boy, he would be "Korbyn". If a girl, "Corbyn". We got a girl. So I have a daughter named "Corbyn". Great name. :)
Luc Besson is a very talented, very French director who makes some unusual but great films. If you're not familiar with his other works, I do suggest checking them out.
Mila is great in any movie not named Resident Evil lol. When I first saw this movie, I thought it was an action movie, thats how I remembered it. Then I watched it again and couldn't help but laugh. Its as much a comedy as it is an action movie, although I suspect not intentionally lol. Its a great movie for sure.
May have been mentioned, but when Fhlosten Paradise blows up, it was the biggest indoor explosion for a film ever. Possibly a little *too* big; it took almost half an hour to put out the resulting fire, and it was a little touch-and-go on whether it was going to go out at all.
I read that the fire quickly got out of control and they had to call in outside help to put it out. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out which scene it was. Lets give an applause to the pyrotechnic team. Luc Besson said he wanted a big explosion and Fire, He GOT a big explosion and fire.

I agree the RED series is fantastic. :D
Heck yeah
Second RED movie has Anthony Hopkins and Katherine Zeta Jones!
Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod was great!! I felt he stole the whole movie! This movie is actually one of my favorites.
How can Mary not know about Milla Jovovich? She's the main star of the original live-action Resident Evil movies.
if she was a guy she'd know about Mila Jovovich ... just saying lmao
fun fact: her daughter plays 1 of the girls in the marvel Black widow movies
Her niece, Lulu Jovovich, is in Trailer Park Shark (2017), and Nightmare Shark (2018).
Resident Evil coming up next?
@@rdramos13 so the actress that played Lilu literally has a niece named Lulu?
Love the Fifth Element. Saw it in theaters when it came out.
me too.... never forgetting that.....
👆👇
Indeed... Saw it in high school. Or was it the summer after, just before college? Somewhere in there...
Regardless, pretty much one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time...
I was born
Leeloo Dallas Multipass. Best bit in the movie.
"She knows it's a MULTIpass!"
Auuuuutowaaaash...
Leeloo Dallas Multipass..., Multipass.
No sequel as yet, sadly, but maybe not without hope...?
@@jean-paulaudette9246 didn't need a sequel
We all saw it multiple times in theatres. Back in the day when a movie stars name alone would pack a movie theatre and Bruce brought the crowds.
I worked at a movie theater when this came out. I would go in and watch every break I got.
@@jean-paulaudette9246 no thank you... it is a complete story with 0 need for a sequel.
I adore how instantly protective you felt for Leeloo. She's one of my favorite characters in fiction, your love for her makes me so happy.
I love that the director tried to cast Prince and Ruby Rhod, but Chris Tucker was a much better choice
"Ian Holm!! thats bilbo baggins" nono..nonono...thats Vitto Cornelius, priest. XDD
"i didnt expect this movie to be funny" right before Ruby...that perfect timing hahaha
@@TheMule71 Pretty sure he was talking about society as a whole, not by Hollywood standards.
There's also the song called The Mission by Puscifer with her singing paired with the great Maynard James Keenan... an incredible duet.
Very common for Eastern European women to marry older men. In fact, it's prefered.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were also the inspirations for the Muppets characters Statler and Waldorf.
Milla was in a movie that came out in 2019. She was was in Hellboy. She played The Blood Queen. She was Alice in the Resident Evil series.
Milla is in the Resident Evil movies and she played Joan of Arc in The Messenger, good movie too
Night Train to Kathmandu
UltraViolet
Monster Hunter
Mary knows the most important V word!
Milla Jovovich - So never saw the Resident Evil (2002) series of movies? Ultraviolet (2006); The Three Musketeers (2011); Zoolander 2 (2016); Monster Hunter (2020) to name some I've seen her in.
And "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc". She was outstanding in this one.
I watch endless movies ...and I've never seen any of those lol
But I assume she plays the same part in Zoolander 2 as she does in Zoolander 1? Thats a much better way to point her out
And she was in the new Hellboy.
Mary, if you've seen any of the Resident Evil movies, then you know who Mila Jovovich is. Fifth Element is her introduction to the Action Movie Genre.
Has she never seen any of the Resident Evil films? Mila is the main character and on the poster of every single one.
You know that the alien language that Mila speaks is actually a functional language made up by the movie director and herself. They would use it to talk to each other on set and nobody knew what they were saying.
It’s one of my favourites. The costumes are extraordinary, and Gary Oldman as Zorg is absolutely fantastic.
That's haute couture designer Jean-Paul Gaultier at work.
If you haven't seen it Hudson Hawk has a similar comedic feel to it
Fun fact: At the time this movie was made, The explosion scene in Phloston Paradise was the largest INDOOR explosion ever filmed.
It almost burned down the studio, because it was larger than intended.
Is my cat named Leeloo? Maaaybe. Does she have a tiny multipass on her collar? Damn right she does.
And when there, that they would head off to Gregg's so that they could pick up some of their favourite treats whenever they were over here . . . So more likely before Gregg's ended up going nationwide and not only being in the North-East . . .
“Of course she ends up in his taxi”
We wouldn’t have been following him otherwise.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but when the general tells Leeloo that she needs to develop her communication skills after being told the tube is unbreakable, watch closely just before Leeloo punches through. You can see the 'etching' in the glass where it breaks. Just a fun bit of info.
You should watch her in the Resident Evil movies. Also, Ultra Violet.
The Resident Evil films are a great choice for Halloween, b/c zombies
I love that Ultraviolet is getting some love in these comments. Underrated film.
Mila is also the main role in all of the resident evil movies. You really should check them out as well.🙂
If you want to see young Gary Oldman, you might try "Immortal Beloved." It's more of a serious art film, but it's what put him on the map.
Divine Comedy was '94. I agree, it's a very good album.
Funnily enough, you've recently watched Milla's daughter Ever play the young Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow.
Korben : "There are some very good words that start with V..."
Mary (without missing a beat) : "Vagina!"
LMFAO!!!!
I always loved the costume design in this film. Just beautiful 😍
This is a movie I’ll watch every time it’s on. In my top five movies, I love it so much.
No, we can't believe you'd never heard of it either!
Multipass
Multipass!
If you liked this one, you should see: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Same director. Same kind of feel. Not quite a sequel, but kinda. It's awesome.
She gives off a unique pheromone which makes every male find her perfect because the key to opening The Fifth Element is love
Earth, fire, wind, water, HEART!!
By your powers combined, she is Captain Planet-killer!
Even with its flaws it's still a hell of a fun movie.
Beautiful film. I think Cara Delevingne says, "Valerian" 63 times during the film. That got old.
My friend and I used to quote this movie all the time!! He was even thinking of being Ruby Rhod for Halloween 🤣🤣🤣
Still the dopest opera scene I’ve ever seen. Watched this movie in the theaters when I was a jit.
12:37 Mary tried to take out Zorg…..stealth mode.
I consider this one of the best movies ever made. The genre-mix, unique cuts, stellar script (Luc Besson started developing it when he was a teenager), wonderful acting . . .
its just so iconic to me. I say "aziz Light!" probably once a week
In case this wasn't mentioned already, *Milla Jovovich's* daughter, *Ever Anderson,* played _young Natasha_ in the beginning of *Black Widow.*
I love Mila from the Resident Evil movies.
You should see Gary Oldman in "True Romance".(1993) This movie is full of unforgettable performances by Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt, and many more.
I do a good impersonation of the Aliens walking, when I walk in ski boots....
I love this movie. It's the perfect blend of awesome and cheesy.
Awesome video once again! You are so fun to watch. I've watched fifth Element probably 15 times and this was probably my favorite.
I love how delighted you were when Zorg choked on a cherry. 🍒
Hahaha, Mary's glee over the cherry-choking scene was priceless!
Yes, one little (Mary) Cherry is bringing down the evil Zorg, lol.
Ahh so many quotable moments.
"CHI-KEN!"
"SMOKE YOU!!!"
"Multi-pass!"
"Co-Co-C-Corbin mah man"
Gimme the CASHHHH!!!
Mary should have that as her mem where the priest say he's whole Empire comes crashing down because of one small cherry, 😂
Amelie is an awesome overlooked movie as well as the movie green street hooligans. I think you'll love them both.
"Point of no return" and "The Professional" are two other great movies by this director.
And don't forget Lucy
@@kenadkins1360 Too much fantasy than science fiction.
May have been mentioned, but when Fhlosten Paradise blows up, it was the biggest indoor explosion for a film ever. Possibly a little *too* big; it took almost half an hour to put out the resulting fire, and it was a little touch-and-go on whether it was going to go out at all.
Fun fact: When it came out, this movie had the largest on-set explosion ever filmed.
@@MatthewPettyST1300 "It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out which scene it was"
Clearly the hotel blowing up, I mean, a giant space boat, that explosion big.
One of my all time favorite movies always seeing this on at my grandmas house
Never heard of the fifth element? That's blasphemy!
