For those reading, if you're not a patreon, if you can, he so deserves it! A year ago I was drawing sausage and stick drawings. At the moment I have charcoal drawings on exhibition. One is next to the Grand Winner of the Art Show and my drawing is compatible. It's one of the best in the Show. That's not saying the others are poor quality! If I could post, I'd show you the image I drew BECAUSE of Studio Wildlife!
I couldn't agree more with everything youve mentioned, but particularly the part about it being harder to paint with less details, this is something I need to obercome, we never stop learning!!
You can only imagine how many times my friend or family have said. ” you got all the talent “ and I always say NO, It’s countless number of hour working and experience and trying and failing . If you want to be good at anything it takes countless hours to prefect it . Great brush work and end result .
I am binge watching! I've had a lot of stresses and life getting in the way of my art, leaving me feeling discouraged and stuck. Thank you so much for your honest narrative. Looking forward to seeing us both continue to grow!
It takes courage to show something new, and to be honest about the process. Rather than only sticking to what is a very successful signature style, and is the backbone of your portfolio, you are refreshing your perspective and investigating additional ways to create imagery-and we get to learn along with you. Thank you.
Brill your full of inspiration😊I’m not anywhere near ready or capable to try oils yet…However I did use 3 acrylic colours red/yellow/white as my challenge and gifted finished piece to a young family member (ManU fan) He liked it because it was red mainly. Thanks Daniel.
I agree with everything you said in this video. I have been painting for many years on and off and after early retirement, choosing the brush instead of the mouse, due to arthritis, I have been through a meander of watercolour, acrylic and oils. Four years later and no sales to speak of, I am focusing on acrylic because I can finish a painting in a week rather than oils with drying times necessary, but I am in SA and on the highveld, where the air is dry and I am hoping going into winter I can find a happy medium between acrylic underpainting with one or two layers of oils to finish. I am using Dala retarder but find it dries too fast and has a strange effect on the acrylic. So yes, my style is looser than your hyper realistic paintings, which I use as a goal to work towards but I end up somewhere between this painting and the realism of your style. Getting looser is definitely a discipline we artists struggle with. Thank you for tutorials and yes, I binge watch your channel quite a lot. Keep inspiring us, you are a great painter.
First time I've watched your videos. I'm mesmerized at your beautiful talent and skill! If I had the money, I would buy that painting for sure! It's so beautiful!❤
If you're comfortable using cadmiums, they're unmatched for opacity when it comes to yellows and warm reds. They might be expensive, but they go a long way compared to many other pigments that take a lot of paint to get the same opacity, and then they end up greying from mixing them with white. Cadmiums are just super powerful, and a tube lasts longer because you can get away with using less.
The idea that you're not keen on the pencil lines showing through or "the process" being visible is somehow a bad thing, please realize, many people LOVE work where "the process" is evident. Yes, in hyper-realism it can be distracting, I get it, and, since most artwork is seen from a distance, those "foundation building" elements aren't seen. But, to some viewers, that "glimpse behind the curtain of process, is like being backstage at a Broadway Show! Your comment about doing extreme realism, and then stating, "But, as I've gotten older my perspective has changed...," resonated with me, in that, I've discovered that on my path as well. Great work & Commentary!! Be well My Friend!! 😄🙏👍
I haven't painted with acrylics yet but your pictures are definitely inspiring. I bought 2 small canvases then ill buy paints. Water colors are what ive used for the past 2 years ive painted. Your site will be one i probably will use for my upcoming art ❤
Great job on this one. It is very true that often in art, and life, less is more… when done correctly. You have done correctly with this painting, and as a long time subscriber of your channel and fellow artist, I am proud. Keep up the good work😊
I feel very underdeveloped as an artist because I’m completely a slave to reference and trying to get all the details right. I often feel imposter syndrome because I really feel I’m actually taking the easy way out. I simply paint what I see. The work is done for me. What you just did requires such a higher understanding of art and feel for balance, contrast, behavior of light, gesture, etc. I truly believe you can be a bit of a subpar overall artist and paint realism fairly competently because you can hide your weaknesses among loads of detail and given enough time it’ll look good. This is where I’m at. I’ve primarily done sports art until now and I’ve gotten pretty decent at painting what I see. But if I had to paint like this on feel where detail is carefully suggested through not only what you are painting but what you aren’t, I’d feel very exposed. Lol. You killed it man!!! This was a motivator for me. PS Your channel also has me really wanting to try a foray into wildlife art. I like sports art and all but it’s not so relaxing, painting animals just seems like it’d be so relaxing and calming. Like I don’t think I could ever NOT like it. 🍻
I love what you did with just 3 colours, wow ! I think you are an amazing artist and I understand wanting to be better and better . A big thank you for sharing this ! 😍❣❣
Wow, this painting is really awesome - you are so talented and give such great tips - thanks - it is always inspiring and a pleasure to watch you produce these "masterpieces". One question though, you painted this with oil paints - can one also try with acrylics. It seems that the oil paints go onto the canvas more smoothly and one can use more paint on the brush. When watching this, I feel that I have been a bit "skimpy" with the amount of paint on my brush, so maybe I should be more bold...
Well actually some of the greatest artist in history were oil painters and would still have been that great without experimenting with acrylics etc! But its always fun to play around and experiment, but i wouldnt get to caught up in it! Choose what suits you andcwork at it😊🖌🎨
Chroma Atelier Acrylics act like oils, they will send you a free tube to try out. Changed my art. You can reopen and rework them. Once you try you never go back to oils.
Detail and time! The one thing I hate about oil paints, is the time they take to dry. So painting ala prima, makes detail harder. So old worn out brushes, work better for fur in some ways.

I love your teachings! Thank you!
You, young man, are a great artist!
Very nice presentation. I especially appreciated your comments about the steps/work it takes to become a better artist.
step by step youll get there my friend! you are very good!!! some brands simply doesnt know how to sell their own stuff...
I must tell that it is beautiful! Now I wish very much to encourage you, continue to explore, grow and teach - enjoy.
Absolutely wonderful this really catches the eye
I Love this, as a slave to detail myself I would love to be able to paint like this…👏👏
Maravilhoso com este fundo vermelho.
You are my teacher and my role model. god bless you
I love this painting. And the fact you are able to create it with such a small amount of colours. Shows what a great artist you already are. Sheila.
Wow amazing 🦁 ❤ I really love you’re art & want to thank you for sharing your techniques & tips you really do have a great talent 😊
Thanks so much 😊
I love it!!
Hope you do more oil paintings!

I'm very impressed, especially the eyes. Overall, I see enough detail to know this was painted by an experienced artist. Nicely done 😊.

What a awesome painting. If i weren't a literal starving artist I would bid for your painting. Especially being a leo & all

Brilliant technique!!!
Thank you!
Oil has a depth that nothing else has! You must slow down if you use the oils but alkyds speed the drying up.

I don't like buttery paint actually but you can make anything work
