  • One McDonalds is selling a Big Mac for $18, leaving customers with sticker shock. Inflation has driven up prices for consumers, but will companies lower prices as things improve? Or are these higher costs here to stay?

      @@jinsu0504 Everything you said is exactly right! The covid money just taught poor people how to spend money they didn't have, and now they are using their credit cards to buy fast food because they don't like to cook. I predict housing to crash next because they spent the money on boats, vacations and new vehicles instead of paying their mortgage payments. What are banks going to do with all that inventory of repossessd homes. Domino effect. Next thing is we'll be told that we need to give people free homes along with free food.

      I guess? But my wife and I stopped over the last two years (gradually). Let's put it this way, so far in 2024, zero visits to any fast food place. It's very rare for us now. We can afford it. We just refuse to pay huge amounts of money for food that is bad for us and used to be very cheap. Funny thing is I bet you the shift away is more people like me and that people who are very low income are still going to line up for Mc'y D's. Why? It's hard work to cook and clean. I know. I do it every night, so we can eat healthy.

    I am retired in the Philippines. I can buy a Big Mac meal with large fries and a large coke, delivered, for $6.13. It is important to note that the minimum wage here in Cebu Philippines is 435 pesos ($7.77) per day, not per hour, per day. So that Big Mac meal is almost an entire day's pay for that Mc worker. Many Filipinos consider McDonald's a real treat.

    What is now a Big Mac used to be a Jr. Mac. Over the years McDonalds, BK, Wendy's have ALL decreased the amount of ingredients they put on a sandwich and increased the prices. Now you get a piece of meat, half slice of cheese, and a burger bun to smother it all. You get a better deal if you go to some local Mom + Pop diner for a burger! You get more meat, more ingredients on your burger than if you go to McDonalds, BK, or Wendy's! I personally don't know why people still eat at these places because the burgers just don't taste that good anymore and for what you get, you're ripped off on the price!

    • @Hayyyward
      @Hayyyward 7 месяцев назад +6

      It's the same thing with homes. What used to be an actual 2x4 used for framing is no longer 2 inches by 4 inches. Instead of plywood, look at how much cheaper particle board is used instead. Cheaper hardyboard siding instead of brick. Etc. Yet the new home prices are much higher for a cheaper built home. And you don't see anyone keeping the price of their homes low. Everyone expects their home value to keep increasing to where now a home has gotten out of affordability for too many.
      This is not just corporate greed. People in general are greedy. They have no problem with their home value increasing to profit when they sell or raising rent sky high for more profit but complain when prices of food go up. But I totally agree with you on places like McD's. The food is awful and the prices are definitely not worth it. Heck, I remember about a decade ago seeing the prices at Wendy's go way up and the only fast food I've eaten since has pretty much been Chick fil-A. For a good burger I go to a restaurant and get an ACTUAL burger.

    They can price the Big Mac at $100, but nobody will buy one. At In-N-Out in Southern California, you can still get their cheeseburger meal for about $9 (tax included), with their employees making $20 an hour on up. Their cheeseburger meal beats any Big Mac Meal. Go there instead. Anyway, there's no use complaining, because it's not going to lower prices. One way to give yourself a discount is to keep a supply of drinks and water in your car, that you bought at the supermarket. That way, you can avoid the $3+ plus cost for a cup of sugar water they try to sell you.

      If McDonald’s employees don’t make enough they should do something else.
