Hi Lora! Regular stockinette stitch is knitting all stitches on the right side and purling all stitches on the wrong side. In this video, Heidi is doing something called a selvedge edge, which basically just means slipping the first stitch of every row purlwise. This is optional, but it will "stabilize" the fabric and make it easier for seaming if you need to do that down the road. She does insert the needle as if to purl, but she is not working this stitch. Ok, so when starting a row of stockinette knit stitch you purl the first stitch on the knit side of the piece? Did I see that correctly?
