A bit of general feedback regarding Zenology and Roland Cloud.
I have subscribed to the Core version after having the free trial. The sounds are decent and I feel Roland are heading in the right direction.
What would really help Zenology is a full effects chain. Currently, you can insert one effect block (granted some are combine effects in one) and that's it, which in all honesty is not enough for a modern synth/rompler. Give us effects blocks that we can chain and change the order of the effects. Synthmaster One and Synthmaster manage this really well. Also, where is a basic reverb? Just port this from the System 8, Jup or Juno.
Also the current expansions available with Pro like the SH 101 and JX 3P are cool but it's sometimes not clear what certain parts of the ui interface do sonically with no hover over or manual. For example what is the specific difference between HPF 0, 1, 2 & 3 beyond what my ears tell me.
Having pretty gone through every patch as I said they are decent but some patches don't quite feel there maybe lacking a bit of punch or vibe. I usually end up putting something before and after vst wise to give it a more natural organic feel. I'm guessing you pulled them from your supernatural engine or something or something a bit older rather than writing them from the ground up.
Also, only making the Jup 8, Juno 106, System 8 only available in Ultimate made me sad. Not everyone can pony up $20 a month. A lot of the other stuff I would just never use eg concerto and the legendary stuff, so £20 is steep for me with limited usage.
Your System 8 vst sounds truly wonderful as do the Juno and Jupiter. Truly organic and alive. For some reason Zenology feels 75% there with the Juno and Jupiter presets. I instantly connected with the System vst 8 but can't afford $149. I cannot justify $240 across a year (I can't pay $200 up front) for just Zenology, the Juno, Jupiter and the System-8.
Maybe you could keep your main three tier system but take an extra dollar or so per synth as an add on. Or dare I say a flat rate of $10 like Slate do for everything!! People would totally jump at this and your subscriber base and sales would jump massively.
For me at the moment $2.99 for a compendium that sounds good and varied is good value. But it's not on a par sonically with the likes of Synthmaster, Arturia Pigments, Ana 2, Uhe etc when it comes to organic synth sounds. Maybe the update this fall will give us this. Some of the string stuff eg violin, cello etc sounds decent. The piano's are a bit lacking, I'm not sure where you pulled these from.
I'll keep an eye on development and see what's what.
    Cheers
    Jay

A good way to find out is open Roland Cloud Manager, bottom left click account, click preferences, and you will see custom install location, the vst3 folder should be there and inside is the roland zenology. You can copy that to your main plugins folder or use that one. Hope this helps

    • @FilippoGameAudio
      @FilippoGameAudio 4 года назад +2

Judging by this video at 5:45 (look at the mixer meters or at the interface menus while the cursor goes through the different effects), I can only assume that the CPU usage is the same as the previous plugins, and thus very intensive due to bad optimization imho. Let's hope for future versions.

I have been a user of Roland products for over thirty years. I currently own a Roland V-Synth XT and a Roland Integra-7. I downloaded and installed the Roland Cloud and subsequently the free version of Zenology and multiple libraries. Roland insists that Zenlolgy, which is a VST3, must be installed in the (Windows) C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 directory. I moved it to a folder on my D:\ drive and it worked just fine. However, although multiple Factory Preset Banks install with Zenology the patch browser only recoginzed Bank A, even it the plugin was left in the VST3 folder on the C:\ drive. It didn't recognize any of the additional downloaded libraries at all and there is no utility to point the browser to the install location. The install location is requested by the installer, implying users choice. After contacting Roland support (which was reasonably prompt) I found out that, no, the libraries must be located in a specified folder on the C:\ drive only. To add insult to injury I also found out from Roland support that Zenlolgy does not support MIDI patch change protocols. You can use a patch chance message to select any patch with a number between 0-127, but Zenology has patches with numbers higher than 127, thus there is no way to select them, e.g.,, with a patch change message in a DAW. Finally, the Roland Cloud app randomly pops up solicitations for other Roland products on your desktop using the Windows message utilty. I've removed Zenology and Roland Cloud from my PC and won't be using any Roland software products in the forseeable future.

Hi Roland . Congrats on the release!
I have a few questions . Do you know with the zenology plugin if you can send a supernatural sound from it to zen core hardware instruments like the rd-88? Say I have Supernatural Trumpet in zenology ... can that tone be sent to the RD-88? Trying to find out more about the RD-88 and how it “manages” its sounds. How much memory does it have etc for additional sounds / expansions . I own the Fantom 8 (which I love). But wondering if all the sounds that are on it (and now supposedly in Zenology) can be moved to the RD-88 . The RD-88 has my interest as it would be an easier / lighter board to gig with .
    Any help appreciated ! Cheers
    Steve

Okay... think about this objectively... a Jupiter X with zencore is $3,249, a Fantom 6 with zencore is $4,299, but you think getting Zencore for THREE DOLLARS a month is "mad expensive?" Zencore had to be at least 1/2 million $ in development conservatively, and another 1/4 million on this plug and the sound development? No offense, but how much do you think it's worth?

just subscribed...but why D-50 emulation sounds so great and 3D better than the hardware (I have had the keyboard version) and Zenology presets lack reverb and thickness? Probably you should simulate the circuits behaviour as you did for the D-50. I have had also the Fantom G6 and the sound was mind blowing. Now I use an Apollo 8, I think it uses good dacs but I haven't the same bright and deep sound from your Zenology XV sounds. Probably old dacs available in the XV or JV hardware generated more harmonics. Please add reverb and DCB.

Have Roland run out of electronic components & ideas? How about releasing super beefed up versions of all classic analogue synths such as Juno 106, Jupiter 8 etc with all new sleek, consistent stylish professional design. The latest, best electrical components, sound engines, effects engines, solid/stiff brushed polished metal buttons, sliders/switches with no wobble or slackness. Super resolution screens with simple UI to essential parameters without much menu diving. Super new versions of actual hardware synths you can touch, own & play with forever.

Work on your plugins stability before you release more stuff. Can you guys not make your plugins less cpu intensive? I’ve seen other instruments do more with less performance issues. Please address this, I’m definitely interested in the Roland plugins. Just not in their current bloated form.

Sorry Roland... you are losing a substantial portion of potential customers with this business model. Love your work... but I and many will never jump on the bandwagon. Though in saying that... I do own a Fantom 7. Best synth/workstation with a beautiful keybed. Now that is worth every penny and for years to come. If you ever provide a purchase once, own it forever with options to purchase future soundpacks/addons... I would jump on it. But I won't hold my breath. Thanks for the vid.

@@maccagrabme A serious musician doesn't rent instruments. Suppose the subscription lapses or Roland ditches the Cloud then how do you edit your own productions? Have you ever gone to license pro music software and it says 'Authorize Online' and 'Authorize Offline', do you know why you get those options? A serious music producer doesn't have their production machines connected to the internet, the connection can cause processor spikes which makes the playback glitch out, and then you have virus software issues. You need a constant internet connection to run this, not smart nor professional. Professional musicians and producers don't use a bank of presets that they can't tweak and edit to their hearts content. In the last six months I have spent £2,300 on a computer for music production, £1,200 on upgrades for that computer, £1,700 on controller and audio interface upgrades and around £2,000 on production software - none of which is rented. I've spent another £500 on software since March, to keep me entertained in lockdown, none of that is rented. I also own a Yamaha CS 50 (£2,500) and Roland Integra 7 (£1,500). And I like this product, and if Roland wants to sell me a version that I don't need to rent, don't need an online connection for and can edit deep and create my own sounds then I will consider it. But don't be saying people aren't serious musicians or producer because they won't fork out $360 over a ten year period for an overpriced toy of non-editable presets that they need to be online to use, that is highly unprofessional. This sales model is a joke in the industry. I can forgive Roland for being this silly, they are an old-school hardware company and don't really understand how modern computer based music production works, they don't even sell a grid based music controller, the Novation LaunchPad is 11 years old. They even sell a virtual instrument TB 303 for the same money Behringer currently sells a hardware 303, Behringer makes low cost analog synths because they listen to what people want, Roland doesn't. And these aren't even Roland's presets to sell. Look at the TB 303, Roland tried to sell that as a bass instrument companion for musicians to jam along to, then Dance/Acid music producers took that instrument and used it out of purpose and made a bunch of crazy sounds for it beyond intended purpose - and now Roland is taking the creative work of these people and claiming it as their own work to sell. That isn't right is it? I'll take Zenology serious when Roland takes themselves serious.
