Doc mix, you approach everything with such a playful sense of wonder! I absolutely love your vids. The Nexus 3 one is absolute gold! From a fellow aspiring lord of the synth :)
@Doctor Mix, I have to say... this Zenology plugin showed up in my Roland Cloud trial yesterday. This plugin alone is worth the annual subscription fee! Amazing sounds, and so many of them!!!
How do you start using it? I too could see it in my LIbrary of RolandCloud. Have Installed it. From where do I launch that? SHould that be tried from DAW? I use Ableton Live
Shreepad Gandhi hey yeah you wanna load it in a vst. Go to the Roland cloud manager and after you open it, go to bottom left and click account, then click preferences. You should see in custom install folder where it saved VST3 folder and Roland zenology is in there. You can drag that folder into your plugin folder or whatever you do to play your vsts in ableton
I just love me some Roland! I will probably give in and get their full plan. I have an original Roland V-Synth and will probably break it out and see what I can do with it. Thanks for sharing Dr Mix!
As a long term Roland user I recognize many sound patches from the old model... so why should I need this if I can have the exact same on my Fantom or Roland Cloud? Did Roland realize how often we can find the same sounds or patches on their different synths? I loved Roland for long time, love the idea of Zenology (reminds me of AIRA :D) and I would love to support but... if I paid for this and still getting the same old JP6 / Juno 106 sound that I already have on my Roland synths, it would be disappointing... I hope I'll find something new in this Zenology.
OMG!!! Shine pad and e-grand were pure sonic heaven! And in general, those huge Roland atmospheric sounds were just stunning! PS, those drums were epic too!!!! Love me some phat beats!!!
This sounds great! Just downloaded it. Nifty little vst. No strings attached. Completely free.I tried the cloud free for the month but my PC was not powerful enough so I didn't pay for it. Zenology works great!
What is the difference between hardware and software on the app? I thought I could use this in standalone via hardware on my Roland keyboard without a DAW.
I'm not convinced. This looks like little more than a preset browser (with a horrible UI). Yet another new Roland technology for them to trumpet and promote briefly before abandoning. How many of us AIRA synth owners are sitting on our System-8's waiting for another of the huge number of plug-outs that they promised us, but that we know they will never release? Now apparently they're just abandoning and orphaning that 4 year old technology and are instead all about Zen core (which doesn't sound as good as the ACM AIRA synths!). Another few of years, I'm sure Zen core will be abandoned, and you'll have to pony up your thousands on the next newest greatest thing (that still plays the same Jupiter/Juno sounds, of course). I'm a little tired of Roland and their overpriced quickly-obsoleted synths. But...I still love my System-8. :)
System 8 sound great for me than a jupiter x. But i feel like im not doing the wrong choice buying Behringer synth, real analog synth with real sounding, Roland make synth at the extra cost of 2k-3k€ and throw the plugin that can do the same few month later...
I love my old MC 909 that I bought new 17 years ago. It never broke down once. It's very reliable. It's not obsolete and was expensive and they could of released more srx expansion boards and had more updates but I bought it for what it was. Back in 1982 you could buy an overpriced Juno 60 6 voice dco or a Korg Poly 61 6 voice dco for half the price. The Juno sounded better. The new MC707 doesn't make MC909 obsolete and the Jupiter X doesn't make the System 8 obsolete.
@@overload8741 Behringer does a lot of Things better than roland! Roland is a Digital Simulator, Behringer is using real technics. Behringer sounds better and has fair prices. BTW Roland kills their Software Support for many products after just a few years. E. G. Aira Modular, no Support and the Android App is not aviable anymore. What a fucking shit. Roland never again! I hate you for this!
This is why I bought the JD-XA and not the System-8 - the JD-XA is a real hardware synth with real analog. I understand the frustration of System-8 owners, especially now that the System-8 itself is a VSTi, one which I use a lot, but if Roland does what it has promised for Zenology by the time the Pro version is released in a few months, it will truly be the most powerful VSTi ever made. As it is, it is already a formidable rackmount-style synth, better than the JV-1080 and XV-5080 in my opinion.
Hi Docteur Mix =), I was wondering what's the advantage of having the hardware version vs the vst. More colorful ? (I'm not on the software vs hardware debate), but I was planning on getting the Juno X =). Thank you
Is anyone else not able to find the plug in (windows). Cloud manager says zenology is installed, but nothing. !?!? Also, where's the support from Roland?
really good. One of my first keyboards, was JUPITRE 4, and I have always loved the sound of ROLAND products. PS: every time you say JP, I think you talk about me. ha ha ha. thank you for your videos always interesting and educational. JPaul
It's a decent plugin for sure, I wish they'd sort their manager out though that app has endless bugs in it. Still hoping for a virtual JD800 and V-Synth GT :)
Hey this is really cool and all but I have a question about the quality. The "resolution" of some of the "analog" sound emulations sound kinda grungy like they're lower bitrate or frequency. Any comments or details on this? Is it hard on your workstation's CPU cores? The Pro version concept is more my style but I'm concerned more about the quality. Thoughts? I own a Jupiter-Xm and it definitely sounds waaaaaay better than this in my opinion. Not trying to rag on it - just wondering about what to realistically expect with the plugin.
I have been a user of Roland products for over thirty years. I currently own a Roland V-Synth XT and a Roland Integra-7. I downloaded and installed the Roland Cloud and subsequently the free version of Zenology and multiple libraries. Roland insists that Zenlolgy, which is a VST3, must be installed in the (Windows) C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 directory. I moved it to a folder on my D:\ drive and it worked just fine. However, although multiple Factory Preset Banks install with Zenology the patch browser only recoginzed Bank A, even it the plugin was left in the VST3 folder on the C:\ drive. It didn't recognize any of the additional downloaded libraries at all and there is no utility to point the browser to the install location. The install location is requested by the installer, implying users choice. After contacting Roland support (which was reasonably prompt) I found out that, no, the libraries must be located in a specified folder on the C:\ drive only. To add insult to injury I also found out from Roland support that Zenlolgy does not support MIDI patch change protocols. You can use a patch chance message to select any patch with a number between 0-127, but Zenology has patches with numbers higher than 127, thus there is no way to select them, e.g.,, with a patch change message in a DAW. Finally, the Roland Cloud app randomly pops up solicitations for other Roland products on your desktop using the Windows message utilty. I've removed Zenology and Roland Cloud from my PC and won't be using any Roland software products in the forseeable future.
Hi Doctor Mix, Does this still work if you are disconnected from the internet. If I had a subscription and I work in camp in the middle of the desert or the Jungle as I do, would I still be able to to it? Does it install the sounds to the computer and does it remember you subscription service on you computer ? Many thanks.
looks great but where do you find the VST3 plugin after "installing" from soundcloud - the only roland folder i can find is for the cloud manager no plugin obvious to see and no info or instructions - any ideas anyone thats tried?
They do sell lifetime keys. Seems right now if you buy a year's cloud subscription they throw in the lifetime key for one (Pro) or two (Ultimate) instruments. Search "Play 4 life"
i hate that you cant buy it straight of the site, you have to sign up to roland cloud, sad,i wont do subscriptions, sma as i stopped the adobe subscription, its like an obligation, why cant they sell their products as single instruments, like east-west wich have cloud and single purchase options,i HATE monthly fees
Fantastic review, shelling out $2.99 a month for the Zenology Core is worth it. Plus with the promise of the Pro in the offing with boutique versions of the full synths, seems a cheaper way to get into just what you want without buying full licenses for each full instrument. Not sure I want to download the everything in the with the Ultimate Trial, only want to have on the computer exactly what I want to keep. As for how it looks, seems to me they really enjoy the appearance of UVI Synth Anthology 2, and my guess it will look even more like it in the Pro version.
The Jupiter X is a beautiful giggable instrument. If you're happy with your rig, why buy ANYTHING? VSTs are quick adds to your arsenal. Easily forgotten days after acquisition. A new hardware synth is a new friend. I dunno.
It means people who don't own any Zen hardware can still have the Zen Core synth engine as a VST. And for people like you who DO own Zen hardware, you can access those sounds without needing the hardware connected. I'm not saying it's worth it to people like you who own an MC-707, just that there are plenty of people who will find it useful. I'm also not a big fan of the subscription model. But there is also a free "lite" version which looks like it gives you access to the presets but with limited editing ability.
Simply put, you don't. This opens it up for people who do not own ZenCore hardware and also provides a wider library for those that do. I have a Jupiter XM and it is fantastic. This is first drop and I note that Gattobus (best non-Roland person producing the best Roland demos ever) has been involved in some of the sound designs which will become available. I also have a JD-XA, which is pure Analog and also digital, but it is a bugger of a machine to use to its potential because of the poor menu based interface.
Okay, let's be clear the System 8 is a great bit of kit, ARIA sounds wonderful and it's a total shame Roland have seemingly dropped it. What I would sat this plugin essentially has the Zen Core engine from the Fantom etc. I subscribed to the $3 monthly, whether it sounds better than the System 8 or not it still sounds very decent and is incredible value for money.

5:16. OMG. I love that type of sound. Like oldskool early 90's house, techno and rave.
i can hear it when you describe it
It's called stacked chord.
808 State - Pacific State
playboi carti - place

OMG I love that horn blast at 3:11 - it would be amazing an incidental sound for dramatic moments or scary moments in video production!
13:10 - You ALMOST rick-roland'ed us with that sound!!!
lol
Watching you do this brings me so much joy. Most likely because you have so much fun doing it so it spreads. Thanks for this!
12:00 Doctor Mix plays better drums on his keyboard than my drummer on his actual drumkit.
Listening to him drum and thinking... WOW!
Ok I finally subscribed after watching you for over a year, I play hard to get
I am once again blown away by your skills. I am truly blown away by each and every video of you. Huge Respect :)
How is this guy always so happy :)
I just love me some Roland! I will probably give in and get their full plan. I have an original Roland V-Synth and will probably break it out and see what I can do with it. Thanks for sharing Dr Mix!
i started usjng Zenology 2 days ago after down loading the full version. Great sound banks and features.
It reminds me of something from the mid to late 80s. This was a dope demo man

You are a DEMO MACHINE! 🥇🏆Great and fun vid as always - stay safe! 👍
How can I download your enthusiasm ?

Doctor Mix, the man of many hats.
I dont like Cloud based stuff in general but i must admit it does sound great. I would rather buy a Jupiter xm.
I have a Jupiter XM and it is just awesome
When do you move to your New Studio?

Hola Claudio muy bueno el Zenology!

Cat-Empire-Hello (The melody you were looking for) in the video.
I think this Roland Zenology comes to compete with the Korg Triton which is the best VST ever for me. This Zenology is also very good!
Yet another great video. So much passion. LOVE it
Is this the new Sound Canvas??
6:22 If that doesn't sound like Todd Rundgren idk what does hahaha
Liked on the first note.
you rocked the fucking house with those drums man
Hi Claudio, I seem to remember that bit you were asking about @11.25 was from a Rocky movie. I cant be more specific yet but I will locate it for you.
Is anyone else not able to find the plug in (windows). Cloud manager says zenology is installed, but nothing. !?!?
Also, where's the support from Roland?
No problems here. But if you are having problems: www.rolandcloud.com/support
Do you can remake a video of your Jupiter 8 and Juno 6/60

Can Zenology be used with controllers other than Roland? Alesis Vortex 2?
It's a decent plugin for sure, I wish they'd sort their manager out though that app has endless bugs in it. Still hoping for a virtual JD800 and V-Synth GT :)
Can it works with logic pro x?
I'd love to see you remake Syclops - Where's Jasons K. It has some great synth, and I just wonder how it's done on a physical setup!

Is it possible to buy it as a stand-alone without the cloud subscription? (Similar to the sound canvas va)
