And this is why Drill Instructors are amazing. He left as a Captain, and with benefits he was making about $80,000 per year...sharp kid, MBA, and got a job immediately at the same pay, and advanced service length (which effects vacation days and other benefits, but not effecting his dates for pensions) when they credited his USAF service (6 plus years) to his employment with the oil company that he currently works for.

At one point about 15 DI’s from the company got in on it HAHA and before he left every squad bay he had to sweep up the dirt and sweat he would leave. We got back from chow and they had him screaming “AYE AYE SIR” to the bulkhead until evening lights. Poor guy was never the same 🤣
During my company commander inspection my knowledge hat came to attention in front of me and I did inspection arms, he basically roasted me and my rifle BC it had a speck of dust on it, he hands it back and when I go to order arms I accidentally uppercutted his cover off his dome. Good thing I was a marine at the time or that would've been about a hour of it

Evidence of why a drill instructor should take singing lessons. Not that they can learn how to actually sing, but because singing lessons will teach you how to give your voice strong breath support. It's the work of forcing yourself to shout without proper breath support for long hours that causes so many drill instructors to develop a frog voice like this. I remember one DI who taught us how to yell, "YES, SIR!" by telling us to "Bring it up from the gut and give it some bass." That's actually pretty consistent with the formal voice training I received from a couple of my music teachers. I remember him being pretty good at calling a drill cadence.

Point is people always volunteered to serve the military despites its condition

One thing with army drill, is that they stick with you for a long time. After my service I was still hearing the voice of my drill instructor for YEARS after even though I was doing something completely different. This is hundreds of years of learning how to appeal to the primitive part of the brain to make you remember shits, and this can seem silly, but at the shooting drill, this engrave in your mind for ever I can still shoot with tem and regularity because I still hear this voice ordering me to do so
boot camps not as bad as you think, after about a week you get used to getting screamed at and sounding off becomes second nature. its all a mental game.
